Odin info? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. I have flashed my gt-i9000 multiple times. I'd like to know when the pit file is needed in odin. I have used it always on the i9000 when applying cf root or flaahing stock with pda phone and csc files. In the root tutorial for rooting the siii the pit is not even mentioned when flashing the cf root.tar as pda. Is the pit file needed only when using repartition and installing whole package with pda, phone and csc? Is it ok to return to stok with installing just the pda file of firmware with no pit and repartition or is pit or other files needed?

read that

Someone can say if possible to flash just pda and keep excisting csc and phone files?

In short you should never need to touch the pit on the s3!
In fact don't change any options in ODIN except to load files you wish to flash.

But is it required to choose all three files if I want to keep excisting modem and csc and flash update from just pda file? Or do i need to select some csc and some phone file to flash?

Movinand.bin

So for the past week I have been unable to odin any file that contains movinand.bin. It fails no matter what I do. I have had to use heimdall. Its not a problem to use heimdall but it would be nice to use odin again. Any ideas?

Custom roms have it removed, search for atlas v2.2 pit, use that pit file, any stock Rom eb01 or di01 make sure repatriation is checked, and run Odin. It will reformat everything but your Sd card ans install movinand.bin as well. If this fails the first time just re odin also check to make sure you have good files. Some of the tar files for Odin are incomplete. If you meed any of these files go to general section I have a thread, unbrick your fascinate, I know all of those files are good.

Now that i am home and can post links everything you need and info on what movinand.bin is, you can find in my walk through.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1026746

[Q] Flashing CSC file with Odin

Can i flash only a csc file (XENKE1) with odin, so without code and modem?
If it can be done, where to put it, PDA or CSC section?
When installing a stock rom i get: can`t acces XEN csc file, switching to multi-csc
Hope you can help me, thanks in advance.
Yes you can flash the csc on its own, and ill give you a hint where to put it, it's the same name as the item you want to flash(csc)

Thought that but i just wanted to be sure.

Modem push through Heimdall

Hello,
I've tried before, and was unsuccessful. I am on a small regional carrier and when flashing MIUI, my 3g or 1x data connection does not work and reception is very very poor due to being on a verizon radio. I have accuired my carreirs ODIN files, but running linux I use Heimdall. However, I've extracted the files and have the modem.bin file. When I flash this over my MIUI ROM, and try to reboot, I get some wiered error where MIUI wont even boot up. I don't remember the error and am at work currently(which is the reason for the spelling errors also, sorry).
My proccess is:
1. Install MIUI from stock
2. Boot and install Glitch V12
3. Flash new modem.bin through Heimdall using Atlas 2.2.1 pit file(a pit file is required correct?)
Am I doing something wrong? Is the correct way
1. Flash Phone to stock with carriers radio
2. Install MIUI
3. Yada Yada
Everything works currently but data, I have to connect to WIFI. Any suggestions for me?
I'm not positive because i'm on Verizon and have never had to do this but I believe using the pit file when you flash the modem is your problem..try doing everything you said in the same order but when it comes to the part about flashing the modem do not use the pit file that is used only when you repartition, so no needed for that

Correct me if I'm wrong(probably am), but don't you have to populate the .pit file portion in order for odin to flash?
Sent me alink to the modem.bin i will prepare a cwm flashable zip for you.
That would be awsome demetris, it'll be about 2 hours before I will be able to do that as I am currently at work. I'll post it up here soon. Thank you

nope you don't have to populate the pit section to flash..you just need to use the pda button only, (never the phone button) if you were using an official VZW rom.tar and you wanted to repartition, then you would use the pit section but unless your repartitioning, it's not a requirement for Odin to flash, and would actually cause problems using a pit file with out an official VZW.tar...which is why I think you were having the issues trying to flash a modem with a pit file.
Edit: i'm sorry I just realized the instructions I just gave were for Odin and you're using heimdal...or wait...are you using Odin or heimdal?? I would wait for the previous posters cwm zip, because i'm unsure of heimdal's exact instructions, unless you are using Odin? but I still think your problems stems from using the pit with the modem

I am using Heimdall, and now that I am at my laptop, you do have to load a .pit file in order to add a partion portion(such as a modem) here is the modem.bin file demetris. I really appreciate the .zip file man! I'm hoping this helps me. Now I just need to find a way to push my carriers prl file to my phone so it stops pushing to verizon update.
Demetris, if you know how to make a .zip for a prl file, here is the .prl for my also.
I owe you one for this,
Thanks everyone!
What fascinate you got there, it seems modem is bigger than galaxy s family,
i think is the verizon cdma and i need to know where that modem lies in the partition.
Anyway i made one with the stantard bml12 partition that all galaxy s modems are i hope is the same on cdma
Here it is:
http://www.multiupload.com/AL7IBCDKMB
Flash it with CWM.
If you need an odin one just ask
I've got the version version of the fascinate. I500. I'll give this zip a try. Thanks again

Dead S3, not rooted

My nephew's S3 doesn't boot anymore (stuck at Sammy logo). I can still access recovery and download mode.
I tried to do a factory reset, but it crashes. Something about CSC missing.
I downloaded firmware from Sam firmware and tried to flash it manually via Odin, but that failed as well.
Any tips on what to do?
I just adder the .tar file in the PDA section, didn't alter any other check boxes and clicked start. As soon as it's writing the system, it says FAILED.

make sure that kies isn't running in the background
and try flashing the correct pit file. if that fails, send it for a motherboard replacement

Sorry, I can only find this: http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=8
The top one is the file I flashed, but it only has a .tar.md5 file. Nothing else in the zip (except a DLL file).
You can always google it

I did, but it didn't help me.
I have contacted Samsung, but they say warranty doesn't apply in Belgium because the device is bought in England.

PIT file for Indian A5 2016 (A510FD)

Disclaimer: I am not responsible if any thing happens to you or your device after using the files in this post. Go ahead at your own risk.
Hi guys attaching the PIT file for Galaxy A5 2016 Indian model(A510FD). I extracted it from my device which is currently running on 6.0.1. I haven't yet flashed my device using this so not sure if it will be a good idea to use it to flash your device. I am sharing this since I did not find the PIT file for my device any where after a lot of searching. I followed this tutorial to extract the PIT file from my device. If you want you can try this out at your own risk. If you still go ahead and use this please do post the results here.
I will update this thread once I flash my device using this PIT file.
Please hit thanks if this was helpful.

It should be available in any 4-file firmware's CSC package. This file is named wrong, so please don't try to use it for anything.
Here's the correct pit-file taken from 4-file A510FD firmware. Turns out it's the same as for A510F.

Where and how did you get a 4 file firmware for A510FD? I have tried searching for it but didnt find anything. May be I was doing something wrong. And more over how did you get PIT file from CSC in the 4 file firmware. Can you help me understand?
Any help will be appreciated.
Also you said the naming is wrong and hence dont use it. Why does the file name matter so much? In the tutorial I have linked in OP they dont seem to stress on the naming. Any thoughts?

Can this PIT file be used to flash any nougat also?
Firmware is downloaded with samfirm. 4-file always got the pit in CSC package, and it also resets device compared to the 1 file firmware which doesn't include pit.
Open the csc tar.md5 as archive, and you will find cache.img, hidden.img, and the pit-file.
Pit should be same for all firmwares except for some carrier specific firmwares that includes files in hidden partition. They also got their own pit with a different name.
To be honest I don't think a pit with wrong name even can be used. Odin would deny to flash it cause it wouldn't match the pit on device.
