Hi,
I have a little trouble with my new GS3. The weather widget is not updating. I mean when I am travelling from one place to another, the position is not updated. I have checked in the widget settings, the box which authorizes the widget to find the location is checked, in the location settings of the phone, the use cellular for position is checked.
Even when I click on the refresh button on the widget, the position is not updated.
I have to go in the widget settings click modify and click on current city then add and it finds the correct position.
Does anyone is facing this issue ?

both gps and cellular are on
Unfortunately having the same issue... restarting phone helps now and then

Enabling gps does not fix the issue.
Neither rebooting it.

I have noticed something. When I open the clock app, and go to desktop clock, it updates the location even on the widget.
I know it is a really minor issue, but I can't stand something which is not working properly.
Tried something simple?
Tap widget > menu > settings > check / enable current location and auto refresh

I have tried that ;-)
Removing the widget and putting it back worked for me

Same problem here. GPS/cellular enabled, and there's no point in auto-refresh if I have to manually remove/re-add widget every time.
What I don't understand is that the opening of the desktop clock is updating the location.
For me the weather is well updating on the location the widget is set but not the position.
And for those whom their widget is working properly, the location is well updated ?
Same problem here
Hi,
I too have been having this problem. Most annoying!! However, I have found a solution. If you put the weather on the lock screen then the widget updates no problems...just as it should.
Chris
I have the problem that when I'm not home (so not on my wifi) the lockscreen updates weather (temp + location) fine. But when I'm in my house, and my wifi is connected ... it doesn't update anymore. I have to remove weather from lockscreen and start it again.
Anyone any idea ?
GPS is off .. since I use cellular (which works for the rest)
Mine does it to. It doesn't matter which weather widget I use either. The only way I have found to fix it is either restart the device, or restart the launcher. Both solve the problem. But it's annoying to have to do so.
Same here noticed it didn't even update weather when connected to wifi.
me too here, but i add another few place i always been, it will keep refresh the weather.

Check post #3.
It is activated briefly at time of update (sync schedule, every one hour for me on my settings)
Also data or wifi need to be on at the time schedule is due to sync. If not, no sync = no update

activated briefly you say --> you mean the GPS ?
so why wouldn't it update then when I'm on my wifi.
situation: at home --> wifi connected .. no update
everywhere else --> wifi on (not connected), connected with 3G ..update fine

Does anyone know if there is a widget comparable to the sense "mobile" widget, that will turn mobile data on/off, and works with the Eris? I've tried toggle data widget and switchpro and neither of them work. Thanks!

I used to be looking out for one, but I found out I always had one!
I assume your on a vanilla rom and dont have sense? use the control panel. there's a button with a circle and 2 arrows on it.
now this doesn't actually turn off 3g, it turns off active syncing. active syncing is what drains your battery when you aren't touching your phone. so if you turn it of, it will be exactly like if you turned 3G off all together. but! doing it this way, you can open up the browser, and it will still automatically load.
like, if you turn it off, your phone wont be using 3g to constantly check on your new emails, but if you went to the mail application and hit refresh it will bring in the new emails for you.
Thanks, actually I'm trying to convince myself I could use a non-sense ROM. There are many things that I love about sense and the mobile widget is one of them.
I'm on pageplus and only have 50mb of data, so I like to keep the mobile connection off unless I need it for some reason. One time I was listening to pandora over wifi and all the sudden my data usage was maxed out. I believe the wifi radio was turned off after 15 minutes because of one of the phones settings (I've since changed that setting and haven't seen this problem). Needless to say, since then, I've been paranoid.
The suggestion to disable syncing will help but I would prefer to cut the connection completely. That way, any app that might happen to be running in the background (That I no longer need) won't be able to suck away at my limited data. Or, if wifi get's turned off automatically for some reason
Are there any other suggestions?

I am on page plus also, and i faced the exact same dilemma trying a non-sense rom. I couldn't find anything reliable. I know its not as convenient but what about just pushing the power button for 2 secs and then selecting turn on/off mobile network from that list. I have to do this in sense sometimes because the mobile widget doesn't work occasionally.
For those that are using roms that still have HTC Framework, then a shortcut is to long press the end call button and select the last option. Which is Mobile Network ON/OFF
Atleast that's a workaround but not a complete widget replacement, sorry
Check out beautiful widgets, it's 1.99 but it might have what you need.

u should try droidwall. am on pageplus too and use this one to control the data usage. u can block some or all apps from using 3G and restrict them to just wifi. its free. try it out

Yeah that will work fine, I never noticed that was there... but do the AOSP/Cyanogen builds have this option?

I actually have beautiful widgets, but there isn't one to turn off data.
Just to post an update for anyone interested:
SwitchPro widget works great at least on White Widow. I'm assuming it works on any AOSP ROM. I tried it with a stock sense rom previously and it didn't work for me, so I'm assuming that it doesn't work with sense.

Weather is deeply connected with the world clock and the location service. So at first look if any other city in the weather tab than "my location" is updated. If not than it is an issue of your internet connection. Try both wifi and your phone data connection. If these cities are updated look if you have the location services activated.
Sometimes it is a problem caused by bad reception, so the actual location can not be updated.
Another possibility is CHTS. If you use profiling you should look at the settings for the weather update in every profile and activate it.
I was able to get TetherGPS running on my NT. Google maps and turn-by-turn nav are working fine.
Instructions:
1. On your NT, download TetherGPS Lite from here:
http://comptonsoft.com/test/
2. Install TetherGPS. When prompted, enable 3rd party apps and enable mock locations in the development settings menu.
If the Application Settings menu doesn't pop up, you can get back to it by downloading something I hacked together to get to the menu (tgps_launcher) from the address above. Click start in tgps_launcher and the menu will open.
3. Install Google Maps. I have an older version of the APK at the site above, or you can find a newer/better one.
4. Make sure the NT is connected to your phone's wifi hot spot, the TetherGPS server is running on your phone, and the TetherGPS client is running on your NT.
To launch any of the apps, you can click your "n" button, hit search, and start to type in their names. They will appear in, and can be launched from, the search list. (thanks to jdlothar for this tip!)
Nice and thank you! You can also install go launcher and just choose stuff straight from the app drawer.
TetherGPS "not receiving location"
I'm trying to use TetherGPS with the client on a Nook Color running CM7 stable (7.1.0), server on a Nexus S - tethered via wifi tethering.
Once both client and server are started, the client reports "not receiving location" - any ideas?
Good stuff.
If anyone can help me with this, I'm having trouble with street view. When I select it, I'm told there is no app to handle street view. Is there a separate apk just for street view?

Solution: make sure the server actually has a GPS signal
The problem was I was testing this indoors, and whilst the phone (server) had a location (via cell/wifi), it did not have GPS lock. Once I'd moved to the window and waited for the necessary time to acquire GPS lock, the TetherGPS server began sending data.
Version 1.2.0 was just posted. It includes some changes to make it easier to troubleshoot problems. It's now obvious if/when the server transmits location, if the client receives it, and how old the fix is. The server also will transmit network-derived locations if a gps fix is not available or if it is too old.
There was an update to the TGPS network protocol. This version will require you to update both the client and server, otherwise the client will report a version mismatch and not function.
1.2.0
- TetherGPS now sends the best available location (network or gps), and indicates the type and age of the fix on the notification bar.
- Icons have been updated.
- Different color icons now indicate status.
+ Gray = no connection
+ Red = very stale fix or no position
+ Yellow = stale fix
+ Blue = good fix.
The tethergps apps works good on rooted nook tablet and g2x. Google maps picked up signal but get a force close when it switches from the map to navigation mode. Tried reinstalling apps with no luck. Route 66 and Navigon both seem to work fine with turn by turn navigation.

Tested with HD2 T-Mobile running AmeriCanAndroid and rooted NT running ADW Launcher, using WiFi Tether and trial Tether GPS Lite.
For others giving this trial a test drive, as mentioned in the marketplace, you can only use it for a limited amount of time before it times out (trial version). Similarly, if you are turning it off and on while experimenting with settings to get it working, you have to wait a certain amount of time. Just be aware, and read the status messages on your phone so you know whether the system is actually working or if its just timed out/waiting for timer to start up. No big complaints about this other than some nubs like me getting a little confused setting this up to make sure it works before purchase. Also, for nubs like me, make sure you follow the directions in the first post for allowing "mock locations" on the tablet.
Otherwise, the maps, GPS location, and directions seem to work very well. Great work! Unfortunately I haven't figure out how to get the turn-by-turn navigation running.
How did you get the Navigation to work? When I click on the Nav button on the top right of Google Maps it force closes. If I click on the Nav button from the drop down menu on the upper left, it says that I need "driveabout". Did you side-load a Google Navigation Beta apk file?
GPS needs no be enabled on the NT. Use power control widget or other GPS toggle widget to turn the GPS on.

Yes, On the NT, install a widget that allows you to turn on your GPS (even though the NT doesn't have have one) I use Power Control widget (1 widget controls WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and screen brightness). Just have the GPS enabled with that widget, and you should be good to go. It worked for me to allow turn by turn.

I'm familiar with the power control widget. Thanks! I'll give it a try.
I'm getting a "enable a My Location source in system settings" error.. don't know where that is on the Nook. Normally it's under Location & Security but on course on the Nook there is only a couple of options under security. Seems like everybody would be getting this message but nobody has posted anything about it and nothing is mentioned about this in the installation instructions.
Don't forget to activate "mock locations" in development settings.

I did that (both check boxes).. don't see anywhere else where I can "Enable a My location source" in system settings.. (is Mock location supposed to suppress this error message?)

LOL, no solution yet, I just double posted by accident and wanted to delete the duplicate. I'll work on it some more tonight but haven't found a solution yet. Be nice to have the GPS data fed to the tablet though.
This issue just started the other day when on wi-fi my weather widget won't update to my city just says current location then when you touch it it says cannot connect to update to your current location when you turn off wi-fi and 3g turns on it updates to my city and yes sync is on and so is my GPS ..any help would be appreciated

I've noticed that location services doesn't work unless 3g is on. I think the phone uses it to talk to the tower to get location.

I talked to HTC today because I'm having the same issue they say it's an issue with accuweather and that they are working to resolve it. But yes this issue just started with the One x over the last couple of days. They say its mainly on the easy coast.
same problem here. when i go to the weather app it just says "no weather data available"
Does anyone else have an issue when refreshing the stock weather widget with the current city selected? I always get the error "cannot retrieve current location" and every now and then after numerous attempts it might work.

Is the widget set to update? Open it, go to settings and make sure it's checked?
I've gotten this a number of times. It eventually corrects itself, but it is kind of a pain.

Location Services/ Weather Widget
Howdy:
I stumbled into this thread since I was having the same difficulty with the stock weather widget. (AT&T's version of the LG Optimus G)
It was set to update, I had enabled location services but still got 'Cannot retrieve current location' when either updating
or attempting to set 'current location' as the location from the enter cities dialog.
I rebooted the phone, tried again and this time was prompted to enable Google location services and at that point
got a consent dialog asking permission - I think the first time (This is a new phone) I might have declined permission.
After this, everything seemed to work OK
This may or may not be the issue you're encountering but since it solved it for me I thought it might help someone else in the same boat.
Thanks and hope that helps.
