[Q] How to turn off email vibration alert? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Every email I get, I have a small vibration alert.
I only wants an alert on the notification bar, without any sound or vibration.
I managed to set the sound to Silent, but I can't find any settings to avoid the vibration.

This option is freaking me out.
I got dozens of emails every day - each one the phone vibrates.
Am I the only one?!

I'm sure your not dude.

In the settings/sound did you untick "Sound and vibration"?

I have found a work around temporarily before they update the software with a more discrete management of vibration in different notifications.
Under settings - sounds - vibration intensity you can set the notification vibration to nil.
I primarily use this for it to only vibrate when phone call comes and all other notification i only want sound and no vibration.

You should be able to do this by opening up your email application> settings> select your desired email account> you should now be able to adjust your email notification settings from the available options.
Hope this helps

[Q] Question about vibration alerts / sound

I have litening Rom 5 installed & running Go Launcher. I notiiced that when I was receiving text messages or when it was on silent I did not get the vibration alert. I then changed the settings so that the its set to vibration always and the icon appears on the top. However when I go into the pull down screen the sound icon is gone?
All I want is to be able to put the phone in silent and it will vibrate when I receive a text message or a phone call. The same goes when its not in silent. Also how can I tell if phone is in silent mode as its not given me the sound icon on the pull down menu?
Is it something simple I am missing more than likely
Confused
If the option in Dropdown menu is missing then just hold Power button, you will see the first option as Silent mode/Sound is Off/On.
And I didn't get you clearly on the SMS vibration part, just make sure that 'Vibrate always' is enabled under Settings- Sound- Vibration.
Regards.

How can I get my phone to vibrate when receiving a text?

So I have been having this problem since I got my phone. I can set my phone to vibrate in the setting yet it refuses to vibrate when silent or when receiving a text message. The examples work in the settings but fails to actually happen in a real life situations. I tried installing Sms Pro to fix this yet it still doesn't work.
With a text message or something else like Google Talk? Mine will vibrate with a new text message using the stock app.
Go to the main conversation page in messages -> menu -> settings -> notification settings -> change the vibrate settings to your liking. For some reason the vibrate settings for messages is separate from the global settings for notifications in the main settings of the phone.

Thank you for the help but i have set it in the notification setting in sms pro and it has done nothing. Also there is no option for vibrate in the stick messaging app's settings. I have juice defender installed i thought maybe that could be contributing to it though when disable it still wont vibrate. I appreciate the help but i'm kinda at my wits end with this.
Just checked and you are right, there is no vibrate setting in the stock messaging app. However, if you select the option "display notifications in status bar" it uses the vibrate setting from the main phone settings - all status bar notifications do.
I just sent myself a text message and it definitely vibrates.
lol I am trying to figure out how to disable message virbation...
Setting>sound>vibration> Always/Never/Only in silent mode/ only when NOT in silent mode ... mines set on always and it always vibrates lol

Exactly. When "display notifications in status bar" is set in the messaging app, the main phone settings will enable - or disable - vibration. For better or for worse this means you can't turn it on or off for texts w/o also turning it on or off for all other status bar notifications...
Handcent is working for me, with customizable vibration.

Unfortunately, I think the only way is to disable notification sound altogether.
menu > settings > sound > volume > default notifications > silent
Or
Use a 3rd party email client.
This puzzled me for ages as I couldn't find where to change the email app ringtone, but this is how I did it:
Settings
Accounts and Sync
Tap on the account (mine is Hotmail)
Settings
Tap on (for me) Hotmail
Notification Settings -> Select Ringtone
Silent

I actually had a look there earlier but missed the notification settings...
Huraaah, I no longer have to listed to that annoying default email sound!!
You are most welcome, I know how annoying it is and only found this by accident, it's hardly the most obvious way to change a notification.
There are several apps that you can use that support sound profiles.
I use phoneweaver. It does a lot more but I use it primarily for sound. I have several sound profiles setup:
one for the car - all volume all the way up
one for everyday use - volume about 50%
nighttime - volume totally off during certain hours (good for your case, phone ringer still active in case an emergency phone call comes in.)
silent - puts phone on vibrate completely
Does this work for you? I have Bedside because I need to be able to get calls at night but email notifications keep waking me up. I used to be able to silence notifications on my Droid Incredible.
Does anyone know if Tasker (I haven't used before) or Llama (same) would be able to control the set up listed above:
Settings
Accounts and Sync
Tap on the account (mine is Hotmail)
Settings
Tap on (for me) Hotmail
Notification Settings -> Select Ringtone
Silent
To do this at night and then turn it back on in the morning? I like getting email notifications during the day, but I can't find a program that keeps the ringer on and the notifications off at night.

Can you suggest a 3rd party email client that allows notifications to be silent?

How do you turn email notification sounds ON?
Hi. In searching for a way to turn on email notification sounds, I wound up here at this forum talking about turning email audio notifications OFF. I have a Galaxy Note 2, unlocked bootloader, running the standard unlocked ROM from Adam's unlock method. By default, my phone does not vibrate or sound off an audio alert when emails come in. They just show up in my notifications bar, and the notification LED flashes blue. So the only way for me to know a new email has arrived is to happen to look at the flashing blue LED.
Within the email app general preference settings I have "Vibrate" checked, and a ring tone selected under "Select ringtone".
Within the sound settings of the device, I have a ring tone selected for each of, "Device ringtone" and "Default notifications", and I also checked off "Sound and vibration"
Within the volume settings of the device, nothing is turned to silent ("Music, video, games, and other media", "Ringtone", "Notifications", and "System")
Within the Application manager settings, Email, there are no options to do anything about sound or notifications. All it shows is, "Force stop," "Disable," "Clear data," "Clear cache".
Thanks.

Notification settings

I have a Moto Z2 Play with Nougat 7.1.1
I jumped directly from Kitkat (Cyanogen OS which my old phone had and which I never updated as it was very buggy update to Lollipop and I wanted for MM which never came) to Nougat when I bought the Z2 Play. It's mostly a positive change except for the notification settings. I know it's been discussed at length how Google messed up the notification settings on Lollipop and the trend has continued in Nougat too.
So now to my issue with it. I have currently set ringtones at full volume and Notifications on silent by selecting default notification ringtone as "None" as I don't want to hear a chime on every notification that comes through as most of my notifications are News feeds. Whenever l recieve a notification my phone vibrates so I assume there's no setting to customize Silent/Vibrate by default for all notifications and also individual app unless the app itself has implemented it in its settings like Textra and merely selecting no notification ringtone sets it to vibrate unless I go to individual app settings and set on the toggle "Show Silently". It is quite convoluted really.
Now what I want to achieve with the way my phone acts on notifications is something like this:
I want the to set a default notification ringtone and I want to set some notifications to vibrate and some to silent which I simply cannot do unless the app provides its own settings of silent/vibrate.
I want the Reminders and Events set in the Google and Calendar app to have a notification ringtone even when in default settings I have set notification ringtone to "None" but they rely on default notification settings. Some apps like Textra provide their own so is it really hard for Google's own app to do the same. This way I can set a different ringtone too than the default one. So I would like to know of a way to do so.
And honestly why aren't Reminders relying on Alarm sound i.e. if alarms are allowed to make a sound Reminders should too. It is really frustrating. I missed a reminder like this today because I wasn't aware of the convoluted way Nougat handles all this.
Kitkat had the best implementation. It had a separate slider for notification sounds too.(Cyanogen OS had one).
What I think is a better implementation is allowing to set a default ringtone in Sounds settings and then in individual app's notification settings separating the vibrate part from the "Show Silently" option. This would allow me to achieve my goal of having a ringtone for some apps, vibrate for some and silent for some. And it would solve my problem of having a sound when I have set a reminder in the Google app and have set default notification ringtone to "None".
The best implementation of course would be to set a default silent, vibrate or ringtone for notifications and then have granular control for each app i.e have a list of all apps and allowing to choose from Silent, Vibrate or ringtone for each app which would override the default.
Also why not allow to change the default sound that the volume rockers control. In Google's own YouTube app volume rockers change the notification volume and not the media volume which is again very frustrating.
Sorry for the long post and rant. I really wish Google fixes this but I doubt it.

Notification questions

I'm new to the Samsung phones and can't seem to get notifications to show up on my lockscreen or get the led to flash. I know you have to set this up per app in settings but I can't seem to find an option that allows for this with notification sound turned off. I'm especially having issues with Twitter and Gmail.
TIA for the help.
If your profile is "silent" or "vibrate", the notification sound won't come out.
