Anyone review ICS for Mini Pro? - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

What are the thoughts on ICS on minipro?
Regards,
Mike

I'm not satisfied. I think im the only one going back on gb. In currently on gb .58 fw after a day on using the official ics.
Don't get me wrong, I don't hate our ics updates but I don't like it.
The Sony home launcher is ridiculous. Switching from one home screen to another home screen is a pain in the ass. So does scrolling from top to bottom. Don't ask me why just try it. The UI scrolling is really clunky.
Im now back to stock gb .58 fw and I like it more than the official ics
USB otg functions doesn't worked on gamepad. Using a mouse using USB otg on ics is horrible. All buttons act as a touch.

The scrolling is a bit hard because you need to drag the screen almost 50% to make them slide themselves..but overall,it is smooth but it kinda consuming battery...

My thoughts on ICS :
[1] More user available RAM as compared to Gingerbread [earlier 335mb now 340mb]
[2] Same GUI as Gingerbread [corners].
[3] New Application Icons which are cool.
[4] Ice Cream Sandwich Apps and Games are now supported [eg. Chrome, ICS Browser+, APEX Launcher, Nova Launcher]
[5] Phone is smooth as it was on Gingerbread.
[6] Smart Dialer
[7] New themes
[8] Swipe to dismiss Notification and Recent Apps.
[9] Live View in Recent Apps
[10] Default Browser is really very fast on 3g networks.
However, there are some bugs in Ice Cream Sandwich on Mini Pro and other xperia devices but they will be solved in the upcoming updates from Sony...

Sony has done a good job of the update. Ics is as smooth as gingerbread. I feel that the phone is more snappier and zippy. I like those corners in the launcher as I get to make shortcuts to all my fav.apps. The only problem is that the L.E.D works only when the screen is on. But the bootup animation is sexy.:-D.
Conclusion: Ics update is very smooth and good.

The scrolling is much less elastic than in GB. That's the problem. Its a problem with all ICS ROMs. It's a desired efffect by Google, but it is irritating at first for users who came from GB, as they are used to the very elastic scrolling in GB.
There might be some mods to fix this. We need to wait for a developer to feel that the earlier scrolling was better.
Other aspects of ICS are cool. According to me. Sony has done a good job by implementing TimeScape on ICS.
The bugs which lots of users have been complaining about has not really bugged me much. So I am happy with this update.
+it was fun to remove all those crap ware that came with this update. And it was a mojor enhancement to the performance. As it freed up lots of RAM.
Thanks,
Rick

ICS launcher on GB 2.3.7

Is it possible to somehow port or install the stock ICS launcher on GB 2.3.7(CM 7)?

Alot of porting your best luck is to install ICS Launcher from the market

Well anyway since idk how to do this myself and there are no devs around that try that i suppose i will have to use one of the ICS-like launchers.
I consider this thread closed.
Well, ics launchers on google play are well "ported" already, and if your phone is strong enough to handle ics goodies then its better just to port hole ics to that phone.BTW i really like ics theme on go launcher ex

Ye I know we have ics but touch (partially) and most of other stuff doesn't work but it boots and it's rather fast. And i know about the apps in the market and i tried them all bit i want all of ICS launcher functions. Anyway tnx for reply but as I said since there are no ports, I believe we can consider this thread closed.

You are right, check in the Android Market/Play Store (Formerly Android Market)!
Ok so just an update for future reference i found an app called Holo Launcher which is all you need from an ICS launcher for GB

I can confirm the new Go Launcher update makes the note run a bit smoother.

I hate the lag on the phone, sometimes it feels like my dell streak all over again! Go launcher seems to clear a lot of the lag out. I can't wait for an update.
Unless theres a kernel that can fix this lag now? Should I root?
uh, what new version? The latest I see is Feb. 29th.

Yeah.... that one lol
Yes i ran go launcher on my skyrocket so i installed it on my note and it did indeed improve the lag but skyrocket is still smoother.

Instead of using the go launcher is there a way i can just use the same launcher that was on my nexus one? I liked it and it was faster on a less powerful phone.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA
You probably just want Zeam launcher. Its pretty close to stock Gingerbread and runs smooth on the Note. Alternatively, ADE Ex is also running great.

Another update for Go just came out this morning, I still have lag tho!!
Sent from my rooted Galaxy Note
I updated GoLauncher yesterday and it does seem a little less laggy. Still not as snappy as the Skyrocket. I noticed that if you change the scrolling speed under Screen Settings to 100 and decrease the elasticity to 0 it makes it much more responsive on the homescreen. BTW ADW launcher runs much faster IMO but the ICS theme doesn't look as good as with GoLauncher.
what phone did u use cus i cant get my ubdate for hd2

Yep still laggy. Nothing beats TW quite yet with this resolution.
Definitely not confirmed!
are all you guys running stock ROMs/Kernels?
I noticed that after flashing the overclock 1.9ghz kernel by Da_G + SauROM + V6 supercharger my go launcher is pretty smooth. I think the twLauncher may be SLIGHTLY better... but not much

Running on DaGs v2 at the moment. Any launcher besides TW is still laggy for me.

I'm running stock rooted from Mashi's exploit. I stayed with GoLauncher on an ICS theme. It's pretty smooth, less lag than stock TouchWiz. I noticed that newest version of ICS Launcher from the market (v1.4) is super laggy, but v1.2 is very smooth.
I had lag on all launchers until I rooted and got rid of all the bloat apps. Using go launcher now which is smoothest for me.

What lagg are you referring to? Mine lagged when I first got it but I quickly found that the "power saving mode" was causing the lagg. Without it turned on, smooth as silk.
Mine doesn't lag either. I found it to be quite the opposite...faster than my SGS2.

does anyone use Go Launcher on the Rezound?
The only reason I use it is because I like having
a lot of icons on one home screen. (6x7 to be
precise) HTC Sense doesn't seem to allow this,
or did I miss something?
THanks!
i tired and it lagged like hell on both ics and gingerbread. try adw ex, thing is smooth as butter.

I'm surprised it works fine on ics for you since I read a lot of compatibility complaints. I know it works fine on gb
I've used Sense, ADW, Go, Trebuchet, Nova, and now Apex. Out of all of them, only Go gave me a feeling of slow responsiveness. All custom launchers have lots of tweaks now (including grid size), so I go with whatever is in my current flavor of ICS unless I get issues.

Have ran it on the following:

I had some lag on stock. Maybe I should give it another try...
im running it on CR 4.3 without lag or slugishness
I used goLauncher. However, I noticed the icons were very tiny, and widgets didn't take up the correct size of the screen. I'm using Apex Launcher now, so far no problems.
I absolutely love go launcher. It had all the options I need plus amazing themes. Rotation, gestures, custom fonts despite ics, and phenomenal updates, nothing even comes close. Sadly it only ran smooth on aosp or cm7 on tbolt. It runs like **** on rezound, after debloating and desensing , specially on ics. Ppl suggested other launchers but none come close in terms of themes maybe in options..
I just deal with the lags and hick ups and thank my god for their phenomenal dev team they came a long way on ics
Ask not what your developer can do for you, ask what you can do for your developer.
Used it for awhile and then noticed in my proxy logs that it was calling to china randomly throughout the day. adw ex now.

I tried go launcher when I was completely stock and it did lag so I decided I would try out sense for awhile. I ran go launcher on my Droid x running miui. I ended up not liking the sense launcher at all. Yesterday I rooted and tried out a couple of roms. Go launcher works great on cleanrom 1.7.5 and ineffabilis 1.4(currently on).

Stock Xperia!!:highfive:
Yeah, I love Xperia Home, too. It is probably the nicest launcher out there and it is also pretty fast with no lags.
In my view, Sony makes the most beautiful interface among all Android manufactures, while they keep the feel of the vanilla Android. Maybe their updates take a little bit longer but they are very well optimized and bring some additional features unlike Samsung, who keep the interface same and just update it to the newer version.

Sony is very original (design, ui, apps, Cosmic Flow, Floating Touch, White Magic etc.) and yet everything is absolutelly beautiful unlike Samsung, who copies almost everything from Apple (design, ui-touchwiz, s voice.....) and guess what....everything is ugly and worse. Sony also updated all of its 2011 phones, when tried to offer all of their features. Samsung offers new features only to their new Galaxy S series, when you have lower end phone and get update for GB to ICS it still looks the same. It is sad that they still hold most of the market, I wish Sony had more market share than Samsung because they try hard and they really deserve it.
Also what no one seems to notice but sony was the first to use the look of the notification draw icon in the middle with two apps either side of it. This interface was then adopted my google in the stock version of ICS and now other manufacturers have skinned their ICS skin to this look as well (HTC one series for example)

[Q] Xperia S: App drawer lags terribly Apex/Nova/Go launcher

Is it just me or anyone else? I experience terrible lags in app drawer scrolling in all Apex/Nova/Go launchers. Trebuchet launcher is flawless without any lag. I dont know what could be the reason behind this despite the awesome hardware our phone has.
It happens for me in CM9 official and Stock ROM too.
Can anybody please give some input on this? Is there a solution at all?
I use Apex Launcher on mine and it's fine for speed. Tried a reinstall?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Yes they are laggy as hell. GO Launcher was really fast but after last few updates app drawer is choppy.
But, there is a solution, find Cyanogen launcher, Trebuchet. I've used it on Cyanogenmod but now I'm using it on stock rom and it works flawless.
Typing from my phone so I'll provide links a bit later.
Cheers

Either people cannot recognize choppy graphics or Sony made different versions of Xperia S for different markets.

The term "butter smooth" should be used by ones who actually have oportunity to compare it either to iOS or Nexus

I must say that running the .45 firmware and the beta version of apex launcher which is you can get from their site or download in the advanced menu of the app. The phone is running amazingly smooth. I think it's a combination of both but especially after the latest firmware that the phone is flying.
