So today I was flashing various ROMs, and I did my usual titanium back up, but this time it was different, something about an Android ID being changed due to a factory reset.
I googled it and found very little of it, except from Rootzwiki that
They just implemented this for people that want to keep their Android ID.
For instance, whenever you do a full wipe Google Music will tell you to authorize the device again. Since soon, they will limit the device changes per year this won't be a problem if you can keep your ID.
Now I want to know whether is it really important to restore to previous ID? I ask this is because after I restore the ID, then only I am able to download Plants VS Zombies additional data (I was unable to download previous to the restoration). Or was it mere dumb luck I manage to access EA's server?

The same thing happened to me and I selected the option to keep my android id.
Edit : honestly I can't answer your question. I just assumed that it was the right decision

Same question this happened yesterday with me...titanium backup says your android id changed ...do you want to restore it...i restore coz don't know what was that ...this happen when i flashed pradroid and after that pure s3 look ...
Some one need to tell me what the **** was that...did Google blocked me...or anything else

Same problem happened to my phone.
When i flash a new custom rom my device id no has changed and can not restore my all apps by titanium backup.
searched at google and found an app (called ''Android ID changer'') at play store but the app is not work at my device.
I think so the app work only with orjinall official firmware

This definitely helps with software that uses the device ID to ensure that when you install it, the license is still valid. This is especially true of CoPilot GPS. Everytime you fastboot your device, your device ID changes. Therefore, when I reinstall CoPilot, I have to reactivate it which uses up 1 of the 5 activations I get with it.
Keeping the device ID the same as when I backed it up with Titanium Backup, ensures I don't have to reactivate every time I flash a new ROM or fastboot back to stock.
I have the same problem, after a factory reset, i had flashed a custom ROM and now my titatnium backup is asking me whether to restore the previous ID.
I want to know if restoring the previous ID causes any kind of problems?

Don't load titanium backup PRO key *Root app or unistall it from device.
Otherwise you can not restore all you apps from tb.

After every a factory reset ID changed and it is normally
If you restore the ID number will not be a problem because i tried twice and no face to face any problem.
But if yo don't want to face to face the same problem you have to delete titanium backup pro key *root.

Same problem here, except, I cannot recall if I selected to Change or Keep my Android ID.
TB seems to work 100%, but my device is no longer recognized on the Google Play Store...
I am just wondering: suppose I have an app working on my first device and it says that it will only work on one device (possibly due to the android-id), could I get it to work at a second phone whilst using (importing) the android-id of the first phone onto the second phone, so that I would have two phone with the same android-id? Will it screw up in any way?
Possible or not (and am I making myself clear?)?
Restore ID
Some developers use the Android ID as a way of verifying who you are. So if you don't restore the Android ID, you will have to re-validate certain apps.
For example, Google Play Music and Netflix will see a new device tied to your account (source). Google Play Music limits the number of devices you can have attached, so people who wipe their phone multiple times to try out new roms may have problems trying to sync with Google Play Music as they reach the 10 device limit (source). You can deauthorize devices if you have reached your limit.
In practice, it's generally best to restore the ID if you are going to also restore apps via Titanium Backup. There is no upside to keeping a new ID, and there are potential downsides if you don't restore.
Source: Android Stack Exchange.com
I Google searched the phrase: titanium backup restore android id
I wanted to try some new 4.3 roms for my S2 and sometimes the ID is saved from my current rom and sometimes it changes. I tried to restore it with titanium backup before connecting my google account but after that I always got the error that it can not connect to google servers. If I do a wipe and a new ID is generated I am able to connect to google servers but of course I don't get the automatic restore, so my question is: what is the correct way to restore the ID?
In my experiences, different Android ID sometimes can invalidate licenses. Example, if you apply a license patch with Lucky Patcher, then change ROM and restore app and data with TB, the app may not work.
I always keep my first Android ID and i never had any problems with TB or anything else
I don't care about patching as I don't use it, I would like to know if there is a way to keep the old ID instead of generating a new one when changing a rom

Titanium backup has it.

FYI - I just updated my T-Mobile SGS2. After the wipe and update, I'm unable to re-setup the application because I can't get another Serial and Activation Code from the SWTOR website.
Later I reloaded a custom ROM and tried to restore the app with Titanium, but I keep getting an "An unexpected error has occured."
So in short, if you are expecting an update for your phone, or load custom ROMs a lot, DO NOT USE THE ANDROID AUTHENTICATOR APP (until those awesome hackers find out what going on).
Fortunately I was rooted and able to restore a full system backup, to get the app back running correctly. But now I'm forced to run an older version of software on my phone.
Hopefully CS can help with a better solution or App.
I wrote down the key information I entered into the app when I set it up. I don't know if that will work later on though.
The other thing I have going for me... is that both my phone and tablet are configured for it. I did them both at the same time. That way, if one device is lost or stolen, or gets wiped, I can rely on the other.

yes but what ur not getting is that in order to set it up again u have to be able to log into ur account which u cant do without a security key
I havent checked yet, but i will soon. Is there a way to shut off the security key (temporarily, of course) so that we can just shut it off, load a rom, turn it back on and "re-marry" the app? Might not be great for nightly users, but I'd like to try some different roms without losing the ability to play my game.

The only way to detach the security key atm is to phone support and have them remove it. I read somewhere that adding that functionality to the webpage is a high priority.
yeah. I got my ticket back about that. I went ahead and just ordered a standalone key. Not going to take the chance. haha
There must be a way to backup the application. Moving it to an emulator on my pc would be nice, but I couldn't do it...

Successfully Restored Authenticator
I know this post is old, but I've seen several similar posts concerning the same issue, and the resolution was calling Customer Support and having it removed. Anyway, I've restored the app successfully several times today. Last week, I contacted Titanium Track (Titanium Backup Support), and one of the suggestions they gave me led to an answer. "If you leave the app installed and just switch between the ROMs without a wipe, does the same problem happen or not?".
It indeed did continue to function. I then tried a "factory reset" and restoring the app, which led to the dreaded "unexpected error occurred". My next step involved, restoring all system app data/rebooting...and then the authenticator functioned. After a couple of hours, I narrowed down the 2nd app that needs to be restored. Under Titanium Backup it's - [SETTINGS/BLUETOOTH...-> "Settings Storage". By exploring this data using Titanium Backup, I saw one variable that I believe is the cause of the issue. "Android_ID".
Sorry, I can't post the link but this is from "adrynalyne" on Android Forums - "Warning. Do Not Share Nandroid Backups".
Even if your apps aren't there, and no personal information has been entered on a fresh wipe.
If someone asks for a stock Nandroid backup, kindly tell them to get lost
contagous and I learned the hard way. I sent him a completely tweaked and clean nandroid, with none of my personal info or anything like that. He has been using it and it works great.
Until AppBrain fast web installer is used. See, it IDs your device by the Android_ID, which is unique to every phone, or is supposed to be.
Nandroid backups will record this device ID, and clone it onto another device. Well, when contagous installs an app using the web installer, I get it. Without a prompt or nothing.
While I can do the same thing, and it was fun sending him pron apps and sexy men wallpapers, it has a real potential for a security nitemare. I trust contagous, but let this serve as a warning to everyone. Its also not so simple as installing another ROM and factory reset. So far as I can tell, as long as you stay on the same build OS, you will keep the same ID. The only thing that changed my ID to something else was going back to 2.1.
So friends, don't let friends share nandroids. If you do, play it smart, and delete all but the system and boot images and recalculate the md5.

I believe that the Star Wars: The Old Republic Security Key app is looking at the Android_ID key for a match, and then bombing out. This is only a theory from my experience. But I would suggest to anyone that's willing to try it to attempt to restore both the SWORSK and Settings Storage "SETTINGS/BLUETOOTH", rebooting, and see what happens. Of course, make a NANDROID backup before trying this!

Some good news. I requested for the ability to restore the "Android_ID" be added to Titanium Backup, and they have made it so. I tested a couple times and can verify that it is the Android_ID that this app relies on. So for those out there, give it a try if you wish. I should note though that may have to switch the time sync "from auto to manual, then back to auto" to be able to get the site to accept the key. But yes, restoration of the Security Key has been achieved! Good luck everyone!
@Cbjohns
It's working!
I've got nandroid-backup from some months ago, when I used to play SWTOR. Now on the new ROM I couldn't make it working.
So I
1. nandroid-backup this ROM
2. nandroid-restore previous one
3. backup this SETTINGS/BLUETOOTH(only data) and SWTOR app(data+app)
4. nandroid-restore again present ROM
5. restore SETTINGS/BLUETOOTH(only data) and SWTOR app(data+app)
6. reboot(without it, it doesn't work) my phone
-and it's working.
Thanks again!!
I recently got a new phone and had to call support every time I tried a new rom. This has saved me TONS of time, thank you so much!

Hi everyone.
This may make me sound like dumb, what yeah, sometimes people make noobish mistake. Please help me!
This is what happened:
While I was researching about Rooting and Custom ROM and stuff, I saw a vid where a person goes into the console of the phone by pressing 3 buttons: Menu + Volume down + Power. I tried to do the same, just for the heck of it.
So, while I was starting the phone by pressing those 3 buttons, I was expecting I would be taken in console mode. BUT NO! After a long boot up, it greeted me with a Select language option.. and after that it asks me to set date and time formats etc..
It was then that hit me, that I may have hard reseted the phone! I googled and came across a vid, which explained the same thing, that, that procedure was for hard resetting and not going into the console mode!
Now is there an option to revert back this hard resetting, since I DONT want to erase the contents of my phone! :'(
My phone is still lying in that menu for about an hour now.
well if u saw closely that procedure wud have also explained that you should install the console looking thing before u start it?
u hard resetted it
So, pressing those 3 buttons just hard resets it? Instantly? Doesn't ask for ANY confirmation?
I don't care about apps, those can be re-downloaded, and contacts can be resync with google account (probably). But all those files which I created through native apps is gone?
Isn't there some recover apps?? Can't I still cancel it, since I haven't progressed into the wizard thing which showed up after that procedure?
guess not...
sorry but maybe you should make fresh start ....
maybe the apps arent gone, check it..
Ok.. probably I should make a fresh start. But I still have one question.
AFAIK, hard resetting has reset the phone memory. So, the data inside card is sill intact. So, could it happen, that if I install the same app again which was there before, it takes the settings for the same from card?
I think it maybe the possibility, even a vague one.
Just for the record, my phone was running on stock ROM. And I hadn't even rooted the device prior to it.
u have any other choices? i dont think so...
Thanks everyone for the replies.
So I decided to make a fresh start. Now that I have a chance to make a new start, I ensuring to take following steps so that no data loss occur from next time:
1. Syncing with google account already takes care of contacts, but extra precautions needs to be given when adding new contact. While adding new contact it should not be stored in SIM or Phone, rather the google account. Also apps have no reason to be lost since those can be reinstalled from market.
2. Using cloud apps, such as
-> Remember The Milk, which syncs tasks and notes to cloud
-> Google Plus, which syncs images with google account
-> SMS Backup+, which syncs Messages with GMail
If someone know how to backup scores of game apps, that would be highly useful!

Root it and install Titanium Backup, you can backup apps and app data and restore it all later on. It will save you a lot of trouble. We all make some mistakes at some point, sorry about your situation, but hey at least you can start with a clean slate now and on Android that's always great

Thanks for the kind words.
I have just began taking my baby steps into the world of Custom Rom. But before all that I need to root the device.
I am planning to follow this guide: www <dot> addictivetips <dot> com/mobile/how-to-root-install-clockworkmod-recovery-on-lg-optimus-one/
But the comments there are really scaring me! I don't want to brick the device. But it's a chance that I HAVE to take.
Any idea what application could I use to successfully root my P500 which has the highest success rate. Following are the details about my phone:
Android version is: 2.2.2
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9
Built Number: FRG83
Software Version: V10e-MAR-28-2011.

Another easy tip which requires no data or wifi connection to backup contacts..
Export to sd card.. <it saved my life really..
I really think syncing contacts to Google account is the BEST way to keep it in safe place.
And after the Nandroid backup, I don't think, I can loose anything now!
I was wondering how I could make an exact copy of my system the way I have it set up, minus my personal info / installed apps after the fact and transfer it to another note.
I installed Holo kernel / TCPnote v2, froze tw launcher (after installing the latest golauncher ex beta) and several other bloat related things. Basically the whole system is running GoContacts / sms / launcher / locker. Changed some memory options / font / themes.
I have a friend that has a note as well and he liked my setup but I don't feel like going through all the work of doing it all again on his and was wondering if there was someway I could dump my setup to a image and reflash on his.
Any input is appreicated.
Would it help if whomever can help me with this got a donation, say $50.00 for their time?

You can do a backup through CWM and then copy the backup file to his clockwork mod backup folder and restore it . also do a titaninum back up of all the apps he wants that you have. then do a factory reset on his phone and it will erase all of your personal information. then go back to titanium back up and restore all the apps he wants from your setup.
Thanks for the idea, I dunno if what I said in the first post was sensible, I already have a bunch of apps and stuff installed for me, that 'm sure he wouldn't want. What I was hoping to do is be able to image the core system (or the whole thing, and take out extras + my personal info / accounts, etc) then repackage it, flash with odin or cwm, Basically like the devs do roms, except backwards. I have the system setup / tweaks / launcher / addon's and would like to pull that out, minus anything i had installed afterwards, and make it flashable to his phone by any means necessary.
His phone is completely stock, so if I could image it to fash thru odin then he would have working root / cwm / custom rom + beats and other things i've deleted such as bloatware / vpn / stuff average users will never use.
Any other sugguestions?

No I dont know how to do it any other way. but if you could give me a thanks for trying it would be very appreciated
On Titanium Backup, you can uncheckmark the programs that you don't want to restore.
You can do a backup on your phone, and a backup using Titanium Backup, restore onto his phone by copying over the clockwordmod folder and the Titanium Backup folder.
Root/cwm his phone, then restore using cwm. Factory reset, then reboot.
Download Titanium Backup (Pro makes this a lot less painful), run it, do a batch restore, and uncheck the programs he won't use.
EDIT: Someone else ninja'd me. I really don't know if there's a way to reverse it. There should be theoretically. You most likely would have to still factory reset and use titanium backup.
EDIT 2: This might work: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.p3droid.odinmaker.donate
Can you make a nandroid without data and cache?
at first glance it looks like you want to make a rom
but upon reading it again, i have to say:
generally no, but it MIGHT be possible with LOTS of work
the main problem is, that most of your settings (like widgets, ...) are stored in data.
so what you could do is:
manually remove the data stuff you don't want, keep only the stuff you really need (lots of work, and might not work correctly)
and then you might be able to share it together with your system image (you would need to wipe cache and data before you write your backed up data...
which brings us back to the original answer...
I think possibly doing a part manual and part automated might be your best bet. Use titanium to back up then restore apps to his phone. There are apps that backup your desktop (shortcut and widget locations). Perhaps this will reduce a bulk of your setup time once you get a preferred ROM in place. Paid version of Titanium Backup allows you to restore all apps in unattended batch rather then making you click yes/install to every app. This may be worth it, I love it. I have been thinking about this on and off since yesterday and just can't think of a way of doing it that wont require a good but of work one way or another. Good luck though, let us know what you figure out.

Thanks for all the suggestions, for the moment, I installed CWM and rooted the Note, still deciding on the best way to get his like mine with minimal amount of work needed for me or him. To bad there is not a way to image a phone's system completely, then just restore on the other phone.
Now I wish I would have cared more about programming instead of the hardware side back when I was in school eating up computer courses.

Hi, I am currently using a YP-G70 INLT device, I tried out a bunch of ROM, like AOKP and CM9 and MIUI and stuffs, but when I need the fully working device with camera, bluetooth, etc I returned to Stock Gingerbread 2.3.6 firmware!
Problem is, after the first restore and a very very long boot, it always show up the device set up and no root, the apps are still there, but I have to set up Google Play again, set my name and my Google Accounts. And there are NO ROOT!, I can't use Titanium Backup, Root Explorer,...
I turned off my device and restore it again, it works completely, it's always like that, needs twice restore for rooted, working device!
It wastes a lot of time, so any idea to fix this some how!?
I had this problem with my US, too. I think it's caused by trying to wipe it and then restore. I found that if the only thing you do in CWM is restore, it works the first time.

This is not exactly a problem but it is how the Android system is designed. The first restore only restores most of the important system files and a few other bits. The rest of the data is restored on the second restore. The only way to fix this is to completely redesign the android system and make your own mobile OS so the best thing is just to remember to restore twice
Hello guys
I need your help here. So I flashed this new ROM, and the Google Push service seemed to have stopped working completely.
1. Gmail not pushing.
2. K9 push not working
3. Google play store not pushing as well
I have played around (sync on,etc) but I can't seem to find what's wrong with it. So I tried to restore a previous Nandroid backup, but the md5 checksum was mismatched!
I then tried to wipe everything, reflash new ROM etc, and yet the Google Push services aren't working as well.
Can anyone help? I am stuck, I can't go back due to md5 checksum error, and I can't move forward because I don't get Google Push services

Yup, done that, still doesn't work. Plus k9 push isn't working either, it seems that the whole push function is completely broken

Push seems an issue with XXDLI8 (at least in HyperGalaxy 1.8), just revert back to XXDLI7.
Yup I read about that too. The thing is I'm still on ICS, and I have never flashed a jb rom before. The error happened when I flashed hyper galaxy 0.7, which is a ics build.
I have given up on that rom, and I'm not on other rom and the push problem persists. I'm not sure what I did wrong, it's like the problem sticks despite me wiping cache, and everything else.

Maybe you can supply some more info, like what ROM and version are yiu using now, which baseband and what install procedure did you follow exactly?

Sure, here it goes. I have been flashing ROMs etc since 2010, so I am quite familiar with the concept, but this baffles me, before I can't seem to wipe everything clean and restart from point zero, because the problem sticks even after a new ROM is flashed. Is there more to this? Like modem/baseband etc? Thanks in advance for your help!
Baseband I9300XXLH1
Kernel Siyah s3 v 1.5 beta 4
Build no IMM76D.I9300XXBLG9
WanamLite ROM XXBLG V2.2
Thank you!!!
Ok I got it figured out already.
Previously I was on a full feature rom, then I flashed to a stripped down rom. I was short of a few apps, so i flashed additional apps, extracted from titanium etc, without checking their compatibility etc.
When I flash a new rom after that, I'll restore all system data via titanium, and that's why the problem persists. If I flash a new rom without restoring system data, then it's fine.
It's strange though, you'd think that titanium would be able to pick up on that if they aren't compatible.
Anyway problem solved and thanks for your kind assistance!

well happy that you found out a solution. generally titanium backup is used only for restoring apps not for system settings

Yea I realised that with SGS 3. With HTC Desire on Froyo/GB, the issue was nearly non existent, I never had a single issue, be it from Sense to AOSP, back to Sense etc.
Flashing is quite a pain then, if system apps can't be restored via Titanium, having to re apply settings like ringtones, widgets etc?
u can make a nandroid backup and restore
do kernels affect push ?
sorry to bring up an old thread, but i didn't want to open a new one just for this
i've recently flashed Perseus 24.2 over Omega 27.2 and noticed that Push notifications dont work when the phone is sleeping.
to get it working, i have to open up the app (eg. Whatsapp, hotmail) and i get all of them at once.
did a nandroid rollback to stock kernel and it was working fine
Q. is there a specific setting to kernels that may affect push?
probably Android ID problem
i didn't want to open a new thread for same kind of problem.
Problem occured when i fresh install DLIB (with wipes and everything). After installation complete, i've restored apps + systemdata with titanium. While restoring, it asked me to whether use new android id or restore the old one in backup. I choose to restore old one. then problems started.
- I can't use Google Play on the web. It says "there is no phone connected to this google account"
- none of my notifications are working. and i assume it is about android id. (today using Titanium i switched to new android id but nothing changed)
any guesses?
