Can anyone recommend an app that will manage the lte's connection between my wifi newtork at home Andre lte's mobile data radio? Specifically, automatically switch to wifi radio when in range of my wifi network at home and when I leave my house automatically turn off wifi radio and switch on mobile radio?

It should do this automaticslly by itself

Your phone should do this automatically. When the wifi toggle is on your phone will be on your network when you are in range. If you aren't in range for wifi the mobile data radio will kick in.

Juice Defender does a great job as well.

I realize the phone does this but that means the toggle for both radios have to be on at all times for it to work. Isn't that taking up battery? Why would I want the radio for sprint data to be on all day when Im using wifi?

Maybe use nfc tags at home and in your car? The home tag toggles wifi on, mobile data off, the car tag does the opposite.
I don't have much of an issue with battery life leaving mobile data on all the time. I did turn roaming to sprint only and that helped quite a bit.

I just started a Masters of Geology program and needed to make money cuts everywhere.... the cell phone was an easy choice since I have wifi almost everywhere I go.
In the interest of battery life, does anyone know if there is a way to turn the cellular modem/radio off and leave the bluetooth, gps, and wifi modem on?
Thanks
Battery monitor has a setting to only disable cell tower you won't be able to get call either but Bluetooth and wifi will still work

There should be a setting to disable data under mobile netwerks settings

I don't have a setting for that, at least not under Mobile Network Settings.
I suppose I should mention that I am running Bionix Frost 2.2.1 with kernal 2.6.32.9; I don't know if that would make a difference.
Thanks for the replies.
I am having a problem where any time I turn my wife on, my mobile data turns off (no 4G or 3g icon, also network signal info app shows no data). Is this a designed feature or is it a bug? Running stock Rogers firmware I747MVLLE8.

Well that's your problem bud. You're turning your wife on, not the wifi But on a serious note, this is an intended feature of android. When you turn on wifi it turns off mobile data to save your mobile data. If you dont mind me asking, why do you want your 4G to stay put if you are on wifi?

Avoid showering. Your wife won't get turned on as often. Problem solved.
Sorry. Couldn't resist the auto-correct fail... If you're on wifi, your 4g/3g automatically shuts off. That's normal.

It's definitely a "power saving feature" built into Android.

Alright thanks guys. Is there any way to turn this feature off? I want to keep mobile data on because I have really bad service at my house and I am trying to analyse it a bit.
You can just turn wifi off. You can't be connected to 2 data sources at the same time (that isn't an android thing). If wifi is off, you'll connect using 3g/4g instead.

unplug the cable modem and wireless router. plug in the cable modem first and then wait 2 minutes before you plug in the wireless router. while the wifi router is booting up reboot your phone.
if this help you please feel free to hit the thanks button.

some routers wont release the certificate so you have to go into router settings to release the dns lease for your phone

This looks to have been solved in the Sprint forums.
DLNA seems to get toggled on by default on some phones.
Go to settings->wifi->menu, advanced, uncheck DLNA
You can either toggle wifi or reboot at that point.
I did try. But it didnt work, i gave u a thanks anyways for helping

Hey guys,
I'm finding that when my phone is in an area with very poor data and goes to 1x mode that after a few minutes the phone will get very hot and it seems to drink battery like no one's business.
I'm wondering if there's a way to disable 1x at all? It's pretty much useless anyways these days the throughput isn't even enough to really even send / receive emails from my server let alone anything else.
I'm finding myself having to manually disable mobile data when I notice it's occurring (which I don't always). really the only way I notice is why my pocket starts getting warm =)
Thanks!
This also has been happening to me. In school a lot of my classes are in the basement and I get terrible reception.
Turn off Mobile data then?
Poor service and battery use have always gone hand in hand.
Set up a toggle to turn off your data connection at those times? You'll still get texts and phone calls.

I stated that I would do this in my first post but I also stated that I don't always notice it. It sucks to lose 30-50% of your battery life before you realize you're in power drain mode.
Does anyone know if I can just disable the 1X antenna completely (permanently) at all times?
Thanks!
If I'm not mistaken 1x is data roaming, so disabling the roam option in your data settings should eliminate it

I had always thought it was just a poor connection which put you on 1x because the data connection was so slow.

1x (also known as CDMA2000) isn't data roaming, but it is a very slow data connection.

1x is essentially 2g. EVDO is 3g.
You will know you are romaing when your signal bars have a triangle on top of them. That is the only roaming indicator.
When your on 1X your Phone Constantly tries to connect to 3G/LTE your battery ifs drained from your phone trying to connect to 3G

Couldn't find the options you're referring to under "mobile network settings"
you can change roaming mode - but none of these settings seems like it would work.
Am I missing something? Thanks for the reply!

This is what will preserve your battery life from a poor connection if it bothers you.
1x is not roaming. Its a very slow connection due to a poor connection.
Roam settings is in mobile connections. It will give you some options for roaming.

The problem is I'm not doing it by choice this is on the stock ROM or any other Sense ROM I've tried (OMJ, Fresh, Stock Rejuv)
So, I'm running OC5 OTA update, rooted of course, and have Hotspot working with the APN dun addition (not Galaxy Tools). Is there any way to keep Hotspot from turning itself off when I get a call while on a 3G network? Id like to keep it running until I choose to turn it off, regardless of the state of mobile data. See attached screenshot.
Thanks in advance!

Looks like it's not letting me attach my screenshot. See it here: https://www.dropbox.com/sc/73ot1zhyjhtnvrs/AABxxLdUh2USUIpwIddj3c0Ra

This. Only lte and Wi-Fi does your connection remain on, on 3G it disconnects.

Maybe I'm being misunderstood. I know data and voice don't work at the same time on 3G. I want the Hotspot to remain on, even without a data connection so the clients that are connected don't lose their connection to each other. Yes, I realize that they cannot connect to the interwebs but I use the Wifi AP to stream Plex from one device to another and it's a pain to reconnect and start the stream over. My kids also use it to play games together on their iPads.
Sorry for the misunderstanding.

My understanding is that if the data connection is lost, then hotspot turns off by itself. I'm not sure if I've ever seen any way to change this.
One thing you could do is use tasker or automate it to setup rules to turn it back on when your phone call has ended.
Sent from my SM-N900P using XDA Free mobile app
I'll give that a try. I don't recall it being that way prior to LP or on my S4. Oh well, thanks for the suggestion!
