Hi All,
first topic in xda as i am really hope someone can help me on this. I am still new to root process as previously was on iphone.
got my S3 2 days ago and i am pretty satisfied with the stock battery performance. i need to root my s3 due to i have to run vpnc for access company vpn.
i follow this guide xxx.theandroidsoul.com/galaxy-s3-root for rooting my s3 and i have perform Part 1 as per the guide and then i go to part 2 and only realize "sgs3-root-install.zip" file no longer exist. i have to stop doing part 2 step 2 as i cant proceed without the install zip file.
then i come across this xxx.theandroidsoul.com/cf-root-6-0-its-the-new-samsung-galaxy-s3-root-package-includes-cwm-5-5-supersu-and-cwm-manager-app/ and i start rooting my s3 with step 2 again which loaded 'CF-Root-SGS3-v6.0.zip' with odin to my s3 again.
could it be due to i have double loaded twice of the tar file to my s3 and it cause the battery drain on it? i fully charge the phone to 100% and i didnt even on mobile data and wifi...turn the phone to standby and after 3-4 mins my battery went down from 100% to 99%...how can i rectify this issue?
Thank you for reading my long article and sorry for the bad english ..
100% doesn't always mean 100%. Sometimes the internal battery readings are a little bit off. Unless the battery keeps going down as fast as before, there is no reason to worry.

Hi everyone,
first of all I did search forum, but havent find answer nor related thread, if I have missed it please sorry about it.
Got my SGS2 about 6-7 months ago. No issues, everything perfect. Got updated to 2.3.4 with KIES (not really fan of experimenting with phone that have price of above average monthly salary in Serbia).
Rooted device with ZergRush exploit since I wanted as close to mint backup in case I have to send it to service(dont ask, service here is pain in the butt), purchased Mobile Odin Pro (cheers to that Chainfire) and flashed Hellcat's kernel for 2.3.4 from Mobile Odin.
Everything was cool, CWM, made EFS backup with his tool too, and so on...
However, about 2 moths ago, I started experiencing random restarts of the phone. Did search, found out that it happens and actually dealt with it.
Now, recently, i switched off my phone in the evening (was on 20% and didnt wanted to leave it on charger, and didnt want it to die on me during night), and in the morning I havent been able to turn it on. Freaked out badly, only to realize that its battery was empty. Which was odd because I DID turned it off.
About few days ago, i switched the phone, and it went to full shut down, however managed to get stucked somewhere in process (LED's are on, did vibrate i think) but never shuts down itself.
After some time, when I picked it up since I saw LED's on, i realized that its very hot and that I cant switch it back on (presumably because it never got shuts down) and had to remove battery so that I can switch it back on. When I did, i found out that battery was about 15% drained in that 10 mins, and I dont know what he was computing while shutting down, but it burned the sh*t out of itself.
Tonight it did that again so I decided to ask first before I do factory reset/wipe everything (maybe update to ICS too).
So, any idea, suggestion what to do is more than appreciated.
Cheers
Polite bump?
What is the actual problem .

Well assuming you have read original post, why the hell that happen, does it happen to anyone else, and how to avoid it?
this may help

Well, as I said, its not bootloop.
As I said, I shut down the phone, it starts shutting down, turn on leds, vibrate and stays turned on. After that battery drains quickly, and phone gets very hot.
When I get battery out, and back in it boots up without problems.
And I dont have any cooked rom, just Hellcats kernel for 2.3.4 stock rom.
you problem
Hi there,
Here's the best way to resolve this issue you have to re-flash a fresh new rom, meaning a full installation of the android os and here is how to do it,
First search google and download ODIN to ur computer or Pc.
Next search again google and type the following ( Sammobile.com ) and register and after that type the model number of your phone for example (i9100) in the site search bar and download rom that u need and thats it this should solve ur problem
Note : be sure to have 100% battery charged before doing the above and after installing ur new rom do a full wipe and enjoy,
I hope this was helpful,
Regards,
iMatrix
Yeah, thats probably that I will end up doing, luckily i have bought Titanium Backup so that I can backup all apps that I have and restore them after wiping everything.
I was wondering that somebody have any idea what might be going on.
Thanks for suggestions everyone.
before that try wiping cache and dalvik cache

This seems to happen quite a bit on gb roms.. definetely time to upgrade to ICS
Actually from what I have read about ICS 4.03, Im actually glad I didnt.
Releasing it in that state(e.g. battery issues again, 3rd party sms programs sends sms twice...) is bad for both G and Samsung imho...

Hi;
I apologies in advance for the long thread, but I want other users to notice the symptoms I faced maybe someone else will benefit from it.important parts are marked in blue
MY galaxy s3 is only 4 months old....I got tempted by rooting and getting all -other- features such as fast recharging, sound hack, trying new roms before they are officially released...etc
anyhow, my phone's troubles showed strange symptoms quite shortly after the second rom being installed....
at first I was not fully aware of the required rooting steps, until I use the galaxy toolbox that rooted my phone easily for me...
then I started noticing the phone would start and everything but noticed (root user notices) take time to show up after boot, it would take approx. 1min then they will show very fast...after that everything is normal so i figured the processor is a little bit loaded...
few weeks later I started using CWM's backup &restore feature , noticed that when I go back to the official Rom, it lags, a lot! , I have to restart the phone at some points because it will stop responding...I started checking processor load and was surprised to see normal non harmful rates...so I forced apps to be closed once I exit them.
few roms and flashings later, the phone started restarting it self randomly, like an old car heating up, it would restart few times then get back to normal state....this would happen whenever i try to change anything in the rom (CM10+nightlies build)
few days ago, whenever the phone received or made a notification sound, I would pick it up and find it turned off! I turned on again and use it normally , no issues....after this happening for 2 times, the phone just died ...PIT partition is non-readable/writable anymore :crying:
I noticed the night this thing happened that, when I restored the rom, it took a longer time, and something was not found but the rom booted normally....
now my phone is in service and they are overloaded with service-warranty requests, so they haven't checked it yet (it has been there for 3-4 days)..I used traingle away on the current rom, no flash counter appears and the binary is official, but the rom appears as custom
notes:
*from the beginning, every step I made was a trial and error to me, I tried rooting once (manually) and I didn't figure it out, until i saw the toolbox that made it easy,,,the first root was amazing, but I rooted again after rom crashed and seems I used a different root that started all that trouble.
*All the mentioned above I believe were symptoms, that I didn't care about since the phone was acting normally after those occurring..I think I should've spotted them earlier.
*There have been 2 overheating incidents, one happened when I forgot the phone in my pants and by mistake i ticked "load new videos from subscriptions in youtube and the phone sucked up around 3gbs that day...it was really really hot when I got back to it.....the other one was when I went to sleep few days ago, I put it under my pillow, woke up with the phone overheated and restarting continuously "might've been doing this all overnight!"
*I insisted -although it was clearly troublesome to my phone- on installing Siyah kernal on every rom "always the latest one", sometimes the phone would keep restarting and I would have to restore a previous rom, sometimes it would go without issues, this happened more oftentimes during the last few weeks and CM10 nightlies offers dialy updates and I had to flash siyah back after every update...now I'm writing it and feeling stupid!
*Official JB roms caused the phone to hang a lot, so I kept using CM10+siyah kernel till the last moment.
now, what I would like to know is:
1- why does that chip get affected?? I never flashed a 3/4 part rom, just using CWM....
2- I decided (if) the phone gets fixed on warranty, to not to root again, I'm having a million guesses as the reason why this happened, including the fast recharging, the continuous flashings and testing (although all are stable roms, only official and CM10 roms), the overheating incidents....etc....I would like to know what you guys think.
If you had read the faqs and guides first you would not have the trouble .
Like
at first I was not fully aware of the required rooting steps
from the beginning, every step I made was a trial and error to me
I tried rooting once (manually) and I didn't figure it out,
>> basic CF Root is simple as it gets .

Hi
I was running SuperNexus 2 on my phone for a few months untill it just got stuck, i removed the battery and restarted, it got stuck on boot several times, so i entered in CWM, flashed the rom again and it stopped working at all. Doesn't enter in download mode or cwm and when charging the battery status doesn't appear (just gets a little hot). It also gets hot in the camera area when the battery is in.
Any help? Thanks
You can click the link in my signature, and go to the section 'No download mode?' and try the things listed there. Some members have managed to 'jump start' to download mode by using the methods listed there.
Unfortunately if there are no signs of life whatsoever after trying those things, and it gets hot around the camera whilst charging, then I'm afraid that's a hard brick = motherboard replacement. Sorry

It is not easy to tell if the issue is a brick problem or a hardware issue. First investigate if it is a software problem.
If hardware, there are some sudden death cases known describing exactly what you have. It can occur on any ROM (even stock), usually after 1 year of usage.

I had the same with mine (stock ICS ROM, after 18 months of usage). First it got stuck several times in heavy 3D games, and one day it suddenly didn't do anything else than getting warm in the camera area. It got fixed for free by Samsung (We have 2 years of warranty in Belgium)

Yeah, looks like the same thing... We also have 2 years warranty, but mine ended october 5th..., 15 days ago... -_- Thanks for the answer
So I have this issue with my rooted Galaxy S3 that my battery runs out really fast and I'm pretty sure the battery isn't the issue.
I've had this previously but that time I couldn't charge it as well.
I sent it to be fixed while rooted and they changed the port and unrooted/reseted my phone back to stock rom and kernel.
Then I idiotically rooted it again. Now about half a year I got the issue I first noted and took it to the shop to fixed, again while rooted with warranty but they sent it back, didn't do anything, charged me 33€ for shipping costs (not actually shipping but don't remember the word). and "removed" warranty.
I know probably all of you will call me stupid for sending it while rooted but I've done pretty much the same for 3 with my old Xcover for various reasons without any issues and thought there wont be any this time either .
So the phone has been sitting around for almost 7 months and I thought I would finally fix it.
When I went to get the phone from repair they said that the phone has unofficial firmware which could affect the battery life.
I have quite many apps and games on my phone but I uninstalled alot of them with still the same bad battery life. (I think it shouldn't effect battery life unless viruses)
So I need good links and instructions on how to fix this/unroot SGS3.
First off: would like some links to tutorials, guides and download links for official firmware.
Will this firmware work on my Finnish GT-I9300: http : // www . sammobile . com /firmwares/3/?download=33625 ?
How can I reset the binary flash counter to 0, triangle away isn't working, probably because of non-stock kernel.
I have done quite alot of research on unrooting by myself but right now I'm just stuck with triangle away and need the right firmware so I need personal help with that.
What will happen if i unroot without resetting binary flash counter?
Thanks.
If you searched of even looked at the top 4 titles before creating this you would of found what you required.
The act of rooting does not cause battery drain, while it is true some non stock roms do not have the same battery life as stock it should not be terrible and more likely a rogue app etc.
Either find the betterbatterystats thread to help find the cause or follow this

Hi all,
I have a problem with my Samsung Galaxy S4 i9505. For a couple of days ago I installed CM11 on the phone and then experienced that the mobile signal had some trouble keeping it stable. Many calls made the phone-app crash and so on, the battery also drained really really fast during the calls, I think the battery goes from 100% to 0% in an hour, it also got burning hot at the top speaker-area.
Since I had all those problems I decided to try the new unofficial CM12, the phone-app didn't crash anymore, but the phone still drained battery as fast and was still as hot as with CM11. After trying to take out the memory-card, make a hard-reset and all possible things, I gave up.
I then installed the original firmware again, and by that unroot the phone, but the problem now exists in the original firmware as well!! Does anyone know what could have happen?
Hope that you guys here can help me!
There is a picture of a short call of 8 minutes that I made attached below.
Thanks!
Hey .check ur battery first wethr its swolen or not....2 it can be a hardware problem also..did it every fel into water? Cuz same thing happened to my note 2....
