So I am using a stripped down rom with my S3. The amount of bloat even in stock firmwares is crazy. Anyway... I cant seem to change the lockscreen wallpaper with it.
I remember reading that there is a specific .apk that lets you change it. Anyone know what it's called so I can reinstall it.
Alternatively, does anyone know how I can change the lockscreen wallpaper choice without the apk. Whereabouts is the setting stored? Can it easily be tweaked?
Thanks
if your stripped down rom has the stock touchwiz then long press the screen and you will get the option to change the lockscreen wallpaper
That's just it i'm not. I have 2 options... QuickPic Wallpapers and Apex Wallpapers.
In TouchWizz the wallpapers are managed by an .apk that I seem to be missing. Anyone know it's name or how to change lockscreen wallpaper manually?

I just got my phone setup perfect, all nice and minimal. I know it's just my OCD but I want to avoid putting all that crap back on, lol.
I'm sifting through a rom or two I downloaded to try and find the specific .apk I need. Unfortunately they never name these things conveniently. If anyone knows the name I would greatly appreciate some help!
Alright I puzzled this one out... From my Android experiences so far you can change the wallpaper with any gallery app, such as Quickpic. What I did is remove Gallery.apk and LiveWallpaperPicker.apk which came as stock. I then installed QuickPic and relied entirely on this.
It seems as though with TouchWizz you can only change the wallpaper with either of the default apps I just mentioned. Hence my problems.
As gallery apps play nice in all other roms this is a TouchWizz issue. What we need is some clever modder to change the way TouchWizz behaves and allow us to use the gallery app of our choice. I hope someone can rise to the challenge!

Where could I download the stock version for my smartphone? I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 T989. I think I installed the wrong one because when I try to change my lock screen wallpaper through setting > display > lock screen wallpaper > choose from gallery, a message appears that reads unfortunately settings has stopped. How do I fix this?

With SenseUI, all you had to do was delete HTClockscreen.apk from system/app to get the vanilla lockscreen (tabbed unlock/silent mode). Is this possible with TouchWiz (i.e. remove hypothetical Touchwiz lockscreen apk then reboot)?
I too would like to know this. I like the stock lock screen much better
I just looked through system/app and I didn't see anything related to lockscreen. Maybe it's integrated into the TouchWiz launcher? I don't have the dev knowledge to say for sure. I am very interested though, so hopefully someone can figure it out.
Not exactly the solution you are looking for, but you can get rid off the TouchWiz sweep lockscreen by setting an unlock pattern on the phone.

With my L337 H4xx0r 5k1ll5!!!!111!!
Just kidding it's the WidgetLocker app from the Market.
Sweet! Now I can use the stock lockscreen and have my music widget on it! Thanks for sharing this
I'm still interested in the original topic of this thread, I never liked the market lockscreens because they are typically a lot slower to respond than a system one. Has anyone found out anything new about getting the stock 2.1 lockscreen working? I know it will be there once we get CM6, but I don't want to wait that long haha.

Do you know if you can go back? without having to restore from a backup or something like that? I want the stock lock screen, but I would also like the option to switch back, especially if the "puzzle style" is figured out for the vibrant.
No it doesn't give the option to switch between the two.
You have to restore the files or restore from system backup to get original lock back
V5 will have restore feature.
So I just got my G Tab yesterday. I've rooted it and slammed on Vegan. I'm really impressed with this thing. The one issue I seem to be having is that I download wallpapers (1024x600) but they never show up properly on it. They are always cropped. Am I doing something wrong?
Also, is there a way to verify that my screens resolution is correct? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Happy new G Tab guy
Yeah, that happens to me too. It seems the wallpapers only show the full art in portrait mode.
The only way I have seen to recify that issue is to download MultiWallpaper Live from the market. Set the single picture that you want was your wallpaper as the default wallpaper and it will fit to the screen as you would expect it to.
I still haven't figured out how to correctly display wallpaper without the use of this program on my GTab.

The correct app for this is MultiPicture Live Wallpaper, which is free. https://market.android.com/details?id=org.tamanegi.wallpaper.multipicture
After you install MultiPicture Live, it will appear as an option within "Live wallpapers".

You may have to try the market fix (go down to Part Three). However in my experience you will lose access to the device on the 'Web Market' (your device will disappear, never to be seen again). I have not figured out how to fix that, so be warned before trying it.
When I check the 'market', there's a list of apps I look for specifically (Not because I use all of them, but they seem to cover most of the filters). Some of them I've noticed are only available BEFORE the fix, and some (most) only available AFTER:
Adobe Flash/Air*
Mozilla Firefox*
Dolphin HD
Google Apps (Maps, Voice, Youtube, Voice Search, Gmail)
Launcher Pro
ADW Launcher (probably same filter as LP)
Titanium Backup
Yahoo! Messenger Plugin (Voice & Video)
Smart Keyboard
*means they are only available BEFORE the fix, they disappear from the market afterwards, so if you want them, be sure to download them first (may be others).
Of course, these are only the ones I know about, YMMV.
EDIT: If you still have trouble finding it and have another Android device (like a phone), you can download it there first, then back it up (eg. with Astro or TB), then sideload it onto the tablet (copy it over using preferred method, such as USB or Dropbox, then open it with a file manager on the tablet).
multipicture
I have tried puting different backround pics on each screen which works fine until I reboot and then I get a "picture not available" message on all the screens. I have tried several times with the same result.
I am a newbie - what the heck am I doing wrong!
Agree on the 1024x1024. However, if you can't find background in that resolution or no photoshop skill to make it so, use crop wallpaper.
Depend on the image, set it with the gtab horizontal or vertical.
Voila, no low rez crap background.

It's the built in gallery app made by cooliris, which is 16bit. Google's own gallery app that was there before android 2.1 was 24 bit. They opted for the 3rd party solution probably for it's 3d interface to attract more regular consumers.
I love google's apps for it's functionality. But IMO, graphical interface smoothness is not one of their strong areas.
I am on Calkulins 1.1, Clemsyn 9, Launcher Pro, and my wallpaper was always 1/3 cut off and moved to the bottom of the screen. Last night I switched to Go Launcher and it was fixed. Wallpaper looks perfect. Go Launcher has about 7 themes that are free and really cool. It functions a lot like Launcher Pro and is free.
happened to me
Got my gtab a few days ago and tried some new launchers tonight, when I switched to the toshiba launcher my wallpaper messed up. Live wallpapers work fine but normal ones are cropped, tried the fix posted but I got a "no photo to display" message and I don't know what folder the wallpapers are in to fix it.
I was wondering if it's possible to change an app's name and icon in the bottom dock? I can't seem to find any apps for it, the only ones (anycut, bettercut, desktop visualizer etc) I can find are only able to create shortcuts on the homescreen, but I can't put those in the dock.
I know there's LauncherPro/AWD, but I would like to keep using Touchwiz 4.

You may consider trying out Bettercut or SuperShortcuts.
I have not tested those, but according to their features it looks to achieve what you are looking for.

I don't want to use a launcher, but I would like to be able to to customise the icons and text. Something like what Desktop Visualiser does for home screen icons.
It should be possible since other launchers can do it, right? Or is TW a little bit too complicated?
I'm using Go Launcher Ex atm, it's pretty good but TouchWiz 4 feels faster and smoother.

Really?
My reading of the app description implies that one needs a launcher to make use of the dock customisation.
Correct me if I am wrong. If this is not the case then this may well be the answer. I am happy to pay for the app if it does the job; however I am reluctant to dive on in without confirmation that this is indeed the solution to the problem.
Can anyone confirm that Custom Launcher Icons can be used to edit the icon and text of a TW dock icon without the need for a launcher or root access?

If you use a wallpaper that is the native res of the screen it wont scroll AFAIK.
Allrite thanks guys.. I just want to get rid of the lag when I scroll the home pages. I had a 'still' live wallpaper, and noticed no lag when I scrolled.
BUT
Now, i have a wallpaper of 720 x 1280. Android keeps wanting me to resize. I mean like this as seen in the picture.
So that means the wallpaper still ''scrolls''
Anybody can help me out?

For some reason my colors changed on my Google search widget and I have no idea why or how to get it back to normal.
I have tried to reset it in the settings. I have changed it to different colors etc but nothing works. Not even deleting it and putting it back works.
The even stranger thing is that when I change the text from a "G" to "Google" that part shows the correct colors.
Anyone have similar problem and know how to fix it?

If you do not know what it means, and you set the device up, then it is stock. Try removing the widget, clearing googles cache, and re-adding.
Additionally, try turning on material you, saving, and then turning off.
Neither worked.
The funny thing is when i restart the phone it shows the correct colors but only for a second then it goes back to the "wrong" colors.
It's definitely something that happens with Googles latest update.
I reverted the google app back to it's standard version and it works without problem. As soon as i update the app to it's latest version the problem arrives.
Im not sure thou how to get rid of the problem with the latest version.
It's like the phone applies another color scheme for the widget (and only the widget) even thou i don't have anything set to do so.
