Is their anyway to remove the 3 sony buttons that are in the middle of the home screen?
Could you please clarify: Which Sony buttons? Do you mean the Mini Apps at the bottom of the screen? Or do you have some shortcuts in the middle of the screen? What happens when you long-press them?
The "Back, Home and Recent Apps buttons" yes you can if you have a rooted tab, you can try searching Google Play for: Tags: Honeybar, Remove Honeybar, there is one app that can do this.
No you can't those are system apps, you could try it with a rooted devices but i can assure you this can give you major problems, but you can also try to block those apps except the ? app and 2 other apps ( forgotten which names ) hhmmppf,, but these 3 are links, if you block one of these apps, the other two will be blocked to so i always use sony webpage urls from the app drawer, so i can't remove the other two , this is the safest way

As mentioned before, if you are talking about the Back, Home and Recent Apps buttons, then you probably shouldn't. They are important parts of the Android OS and navigation is difficult without them.
try kill or rename /system/app/SystemUI.apk.

POssibly not a great idea as SystemUI is a very important framework file and can sometimes lead to bootloops if its missing or damaged. Just my experience.
Yeah. Terrible idea. Deleting or renaming that file will knacker your tablet.

Ah right. Don't have ICS on my Tablet yet so I'm not sure about them. However, if previous software has been any indication, there would not be any way to remove those buttons without some serious ROM modification, and a few framework changes, all of which would be quite complex on a device as locked down as the S.

Hey,
I was wondering if there is any way that one could develop an android application for X10 running constantly which replaces the physical hard keys( menu, home & back) with buttons on touch screen?

I installed AOSP ICS beta for Neo the other day, and saw some ports of the on-screen buttons for back, home, and recent apps. that's awesome, but it takes up a whole lotta screen space. I love the recent apps button, and would love it integrated with the system UI without taking up screen space. Any chance of devs acomplishing that? (maybe integrate it with the status bar, or some hot corner or something)
i hate long-pressing the home button to use that function

Tried it even tried the 25dpi one, but i can't shake the feeling that it's taking up screen real-estate. For example, when i play a video in landscape mode, it's still there, and i dont wanna look at it while watching a video. Also having 2 home and back buttons is kinda absurd xD but just the recent apps button, that's out of your way, would be neat

My home button had been acting up as of late, to remedy this I use an app called swipe pad to get me to home screen and other frequently used apps when I need. I am looking for a way to call up ICS recent tasks overlay with a shortcut so I can access it via swipe pad, anyone with a solutionor an idea to point me in the right direction?

I was redirected by Notification Toggle releaser to this thread:

Where it gives code to do it via an app
And, he released a process apk that will use screen swipe to launch the recent apps from ICS here:

Now if someone can code an apk to be launched instead of a process...

Had the iPhone 4s for about 6 months and had the EVO LTE for the past 3 weeks. Before my iPhone, I had the EVO 3D and EVO 4G. I found love for both phones, which is why I want to switch to the White S3. Seems like a potential great hybrid. However, there are some things I'm forseeing as a possible problem. Hopefully, there are ways around.
~When using exchange eMail, many of my eMails have pics integrated into them. My iPhone showed the pics as part of the eMail. EVO's make me download each pic as separate files. Can the S3 do it like my iPhone?
~What are the tactile buttons on the S3? I thought the one on the left was the menu button, but was told that was wrong. With that, how do you multi-task without the button and what is the button on the left?
~When playing music through my car stereo with my EVO LTE and I change songs, there is a weird digital noise blip. Anyone notice this with the S3?
~What's so horrible about TouchWiz that are sending people into Frenzy's in other threads? Personally, I think TouchWiz makes the phone look more like iOS.
~On the launch bar, is there a way to move where the apps launcher drawer is? I like it in the middle. Is that customizable?
Again, these are small things that I like, and any help is greatly appreciated

1. Not sure since I use Gmail and in the Gmail app, the attachments are on the bottom of the email and I can open them up individually.
2. Left button is the menu button. You multi task by long pressing the home physical button.
3. No sound issues whatsoever. Played great in the car.
4. To me TouchWiz is a little cartoonish but it doesn't bother me as much as others. But I think because it looks like iOS that's the reason people really hate it .
5. No way to move the apps launcher icon to the middle, but you can get a launcher if that's a big deal.

Thank you for the answers. The have prompted for two more:
~If the menu button is one of the physical buttons, does that mean that the apps are aware of this and don't allocate the bottom of the screen for it as well. That bottom 5% where it's all black, except for the menu icon that is. I feel that would be dumb
~If I do root, which I have never done before, does that interfere with updates that come out? The reason I ask is, I may want to switch dialers, where the app drawer launcher is, and a few other minor things
Again, thank you so far

The touch keys on either side of the physical home key are recognized throughout the entire OS, apps included.
Also you do not need to root in order to use a different Launcher [to change app launcher location).
On screen buttons have so far only been used on the Galaxy nexus, so the screen space on the S3 is purely for whatever your doing on it.
Also in case your still confused on multitasking, Holding down Home (physical middle button) brings up your running/recent apps, in which you can A: tap the one you want to go to or B: close them out by sweeping them left or right just like the notifications.
And the new touchwiz allows lock screen shortcuts now, just throwing that out there since your coming from an Evo background.

I've just received my new G2 so I haven't yet done as much reading about it as I like but my first impressions are good However....one of my main reasons for buying this device was the 5.2 inches of hd screen real estate and how clever LG managed to cram such a large screen onto a relatively small device by using on screen navigation buttons in place of hardware buttons.
After playing with my device for a while it would appear that I cannot hide these navigation buttons (without root) so I am losing a large proportion of my screen estate
I noticed that in some streaming apps, the buttons magically disappear giving me a full screen view but this doesn't appear to be the case for all apps. Am I missing something here or is that just how it is?
It would seem a bit pointless to me creating such a beautiful large screen and not be able to utilise it properly
I am hoping that I am, indeed, missing a hidden setting or tweek somewere and am hoping that someone here will enlighten me. I will probably root if it is necessary but I would then have to forgo my skygo streaming which requires an un-rooted device :crying:
HELP!
There is unfortunately no solution to this without routing your device. I tried a lot of apps, ie button savior (which worked for giving me virtual home button and so on) and full-screen toggle which didn't work. It seems that the only solution is to root it.
Sent from my LG-D802 using xda app-developers app
So if you hide the navigation bar, how do you expect to go home or back? If you use custom roms or xposed you can shrink it to be a lot smaller, which is the best of both worlds
Sent from my LG-VS980 using Tapatalk
If you read my post, you would have your answer, mate. Button savior gives you the ability to toggle home, back and menu buttons in a way similar to pie controls where you slide from one side to toggle them.

Have a look on Root Cloak there are 2 active ones one from Xposed the other on Cydia Substrate. Not sure they work for your app too.
