[Q] MicroCD card slot Class rating? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know for sure what Class rating the MicroSD card slot is in the Galaxy S III? Class 10? Class 8?
Thanks in advance for any and all replies.

Aren't speed classes for the microsd cards themselves and have nothing to do with the device loading them? Or are you asking up to what class will the s3 support?

I'm having trouble finding any nice comparison charts that are comparing the newer SDHC cards.
I'm considering...
Samsung MicroSDHC Plus Memory Card - 16GB, Class 10
Model#: MB-MPAGA/US

You might want to go for the fastest class you can afford. This way, when you plug in the sd card in your computer you will be able to load it up quickly.
I really don't like waiting to finish a 30gb dump of data due to a slow sd card.

[Q] Micro SDHC 32GB

Did anyone tried Micro SDHC 32GB card with X10 after 2.1 Eclare Update?
I asked Sony Ericsson support about 32GB SD card support after 2.1 but they did not give me a satisfactory answer and according to them only 16GB SD card works on X10.

are you using the kingston 32gb class 4?
I bought (on my own risk) a micro SD HC-4 32 Gb Kingston one month ago (on 1.6 Donut) Now i have Eclair 2.1 on my Xperia X10 and the SD card 32 Gb works well.
I haven't any problems during this time.

the class reprezents the speed of your memory card
I bought a 32GB Kingston Class 4 and it keeps unmounting itself and overall lose contact with the phone but it works perfect in he PC.
I have done a 32GB filer verification so it's not a counterfeit 8GB in a 32GB disguise.
But I keep having trouble with it once it's in the phone.
It's a HTC Legend with BlaYo ROM
I have exactly the same micro SDHC (32 CB class4 Kingston) in a XPERIA X10 and it functions perfect. Try format with MiniToolPartitionWizard under Windows. Success!
I'm using a 16GB Class 10. Transferring songs are plainly drag and drop.
If you opt for speed over capacity, go for 16GB C10 instead. I'm using the Transcend one at 14MB/s writing speed. (priced at 33USD)
Well uh, why do you need 32GB for a phone?
what a question ))

I'm using one Transcend 16gb class 10 card, i can tell some things:
On the usb adapter it can WRITE at up to 16~20MB on linear writing and READ up to 22~25MB on linear reading.
This cards rocks, i had a sandisk 8gb class 6 mSD and will never regret this change.
This time i can get real HD recordings as before i would sometimes give me some small breaks when recording if for some reason anything tried to access the card at the same time.
By the way most class 6 cards record actually between 4~6MB!

NC Freezes here and there

I have rooted my nc and its running android 2.3.7 on a sd card. There are times that it works great, but there are times when I click on an app it freezes and I have to do a hard reset. What could be the problem.

It is speed. Sandisk has the fastest random write speed which is what seems to cause those lock ups. SD card class is just measures one (relatively unimportant) indicator of SD card "speed" (sustained read).
Sustained read and write are great if you're using your card to backup large media or picture files but more or less worthless for running an operating system. Same principle is in place for SSD. Manufactures advertise sustained transfer rates but the important stat for a OS drive is access time (which determines the speed of random read/writes).
Here's a link to a 32gb sandisk for $30 http://slickdeals.net/da/mem-i/p46847290/k4569/u125110/r4
These work just as well as the 16gb ones.

32gb is theoretically the maximum, since 64gb cards will all be part of the new SDXD standard. Then again, several people have found that the 64gb SDXC cards work in their SDHC devices so we'll just have to wait until someone tests one in the nook color to know for sure if it'll support it (I wouldn't hold your breath, our hardware is fairly old).
I can certify that the 32gb works fine, as can numerous others who I've seen post.

What is the fastest SD card you can buy for the Nook?

Despite being a Class10, I have been informed by XDA members that the 32GB Lexar SD card (amazon dot com slash Lexar-MicroSDHC-Memory-Reader-LSDMI32GBSBNAR/dp/B004AM610M/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top) that I purchased for my Nook Tablet is not very fast at reading large PDFs and eBooks which is what I intend on using it for.
The term used to measure performance escapes me right now, but they said it was more important than just the fact it's a Class 10.
I searched the forums and can't seem to find the posts mentioning fast SD cards for the tablet, so I'm asking a direct question:
What are scientifically and objectively the fastest SD cards (at least 32GB) for the Nook Tablet?
I'm tired of waiting 7-15 seconds to turn a single page in a large PDF. I am not exaggerating.

currently i have a 32gb class 4 sandisk and i have some epub format ebooks that i am reading now with aldiko. turning pages are pretty quick. the general rule of thumb is this:
if you care about file transfer speeds as in copying/moving files from a hard drive to your sdcard, the higher the class the better.
if you care about performance as in how the files are read which in your case is what i think you want, class 4 or class 6 is the sweet spot.
Also wasn't there some issues with higher class cards and stye NT clashing? I think general consensus is that the class 4 works best the the NT.

i've used 3 class 10 and 3 class 4's
despite the supposed higher read/write on the class 10, the class 4's all ran faster and were more stable.
I think this is what you're looking for.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1005633
I'm just a noob , but I think it also depends on what you're running. I dualboot and run CM9 straight off a SD card. I read sequential read/write is what essentially makes the class 4, 6, etc. But for running a ROM on it, it's all about random write. SanDisk is recommended in this case.
But by all means, check for yourself. Hope that helps.
SanDisk's 64GB card is pretty fast on the NT.
Sent from Spaceball One.
I'm running CM7 internal on a 16GB NT. Not sure about speed, but can report on these two brands/capacity.
I have two 16GB Class 10 Samsung cards (MB-MPAGA) and regularly use them to run backups. Used them last night to update to latest CM7 from Team B. They both work with no problems ever encountered.
The card that is in my NT for daily use is a 32GB Class 10 G.Skill that I got from Newegg. No problems with it either.
Attached are results from benchmarks on the three cards.
SanDisk's 64GB card is great!

From Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital
Class 2 for SD video recording
Class 4 and 6 for HD ~ Full HD video recording,
Class 10 for Full HD video recording and HD still consecutive recording
UHS Speed Class 1 for real-time broadcasts and large-size HD videos
Our beloved Nooks can't do any of that. The general consensus is that these such devices just weren't designed to take advantage of the higher speed cards. The test results in the chart referenced earlier bares that out.

Same here. There's an old thread on XDA somewhere that tested sd cards and r/w speeds. It was SanDisk hands down, class 4, either a 4 or 8gb. It was found that for these tablets booting from the sd card, the class 4 was superior to 10's.

Micro SD support?

Hi guys, i have a great (for me haha) doubt.
I like to record a lot of videos with my smartphone, like to have a lot of music and heavy games when i wan to, but my micro sd 8gb class 4 isnt enough.

Additionaly, i have an offer for a sandisk ultra 32gb class 10 (refferential link) Does Wt19i support this memory?
What do you think?

[Q] Best 32gig or 64gig microsd card to get?

Do you guys recommend a highspeed microSD card to use for gaming? I heard i could use a app called foldermount to move games to the external sdcard. Thanks in advance. =)
I don't see how a faster SD card would affect gaming on your phone. I personally picked up a Samsung 64GB Pro microSDXC Extreme Speed (UHS-1) Class 10 Memory Card and have had no issues with it. I just felt like getting a Samsung card for a Samsung phone seemed like a smarter fit. My Razr Maxx had some SanDisk SD card that never had any issues, so I guess the most important factor would be reliability and cost.
