battery calibation - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

does anybody know when samsung will fix the prob with the 100% battery in sgs3???
thanks

I'd say Sammy knows about it and will be fixed in upcomming firmware releases.
When and which firmware is anyones guess .............
No big deal for now anyway

why dont you try "battery calibration" software if you are rooted, i think this help some how with the battery issue

If SGS3 is anything like SGS2 deleting the battery stats file does nothing. That app will most likely do nothing.
Sammy will recalibrate itself after a few full uninterrupted charge cycles. Don't drain to zero though. But will not fix the 99% reading when unplug charger immediately after 100% full.

NOTICED WEIRD BATTERY STAT i9100!!

Hi guys I have noticed a strange Battery status..
I had my battery percentage showing above 50%
Then I switched off the phone,
took the battery out for a few seconds,
put back the battery and switched on the phone.
The battery was down by 15-20%
Then it started to gain a few percentage (upto 5%) of battery without me putting it to any kind of charging point/data cable.
What kind of weird thing is this in the Galaxy s2.
I am using Android 2.3.5
Simple&Clean v1.3
Speedmod k2-16
I have also attached a screenshot of it.
Please tell me why is this happening cuz this happens every time i take my battery out.
Thanks
nah, its ok. just a bug which happens sometimes. happened to me many many times.
Or if you are constantly overcharging the battery it will happened .

You can't overcharge if your phone is working right. Its probably just drift in the monitoring circuit.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
It's due to Samsung's built in battery calibration. When flashing firmware cwm can throw battery stats off, but after using the ROM for a while it will auto correct itself. Nothing to worry about dude!

hey djsherry, did u figure this problem out? because I have the same and if you (and others) have a close look at your screenshot your phone shows the same amount of time both for elapsed and remaining time on battery!!! Thats a weird situation, I have read hundreds of threads and still couldnt figure that out! Anyone??? Must have a problem with the hardware (battery monitoring) or with the battery itself?!?
Search before posting please, nothing weird about this. It is well documented well understood behavior.
Delete.
Its common, resetting your battery gauge will reduce this to some extent

Battery Problem??

hey guys,
i dont know if its allready been asked or smth.
but i dont know why (or if its normal), everytime i charge my battery up to 100 %
and pull out the cable from charger, the battery directly goes to 99%.
never hade this on other phones before...
It happens to everyone but doesn't affect battery life, but for some reason it really bothers some people and there is a few custom Roms that fix it.

New ota update fixes this. Also a desktop charger will charge the battery fully.

Yeah mine charges to 100% but few minutes after indicator goes green it drops to 99%.

Have you tried to wiping the battery stats while fully charged and still on AC as suggested here:

I am going to do that now and see if it helps :fingers-crossed:

Tried, but did not help, I even tried to charge it off to the most can not, but it did not help.
It is possible that you could have over discharged your battery at some point. If calibrating and the thread mentioned above did not do the trick, you may have a damaged lithium cell. Over discharging can cause weird things to happen to batteries often leading to their failure. Or, you could simply have a faulty battery, or even worse... failing hardware.
I'm not trying to scare you, I just thought this information might be useful to this thread. I hope you get it all resolved.

I agree. It sounds like a damaged battery. Have any of you ever drained your battery completely dead? If yes and you've done so often, you most likely damaged your battery. Lithium batteries should never be completely drained.

What ICS ROM are you running? Is it the OTA update for non-rooted tabs, or are you rooted and flashed one of the custom ICS ROMS? I agree with others that it sounds like a battery issue, but knowing which ROM you are running would be helpful.
It's an official ics but from diffrent region " i dont think it matters " ,, also i dont think my battery is dead because when it goes to 2% it stays like thaypt for hours of using, but when it was normal 2% lasts for less than half an hour

I'm not sure it is related to ICS... I got the same problem with HC a few months ago

battery issue

Hey guys! Last night i put my phone to charge (about 2AM) when i came home and when i got up at 5, it said fully charged so I unplugged it. Soon after (Maybe 2 mins) i noticed a drop on the battery bar. When i went into Settings>About Phone>Status (ANDROID 2.3.6), the battery readout was 91% and it said the battery was being used for 0H 3M 23S. Plugging back in the phone (USB or WALL) results in the same behavior
I am currently running down my battery and will proceed to charge it up and hopefully calibrate it. Can any of you provide any insight as to what may have caused this issue? And are there any fixes in case the calibration does not work? I kept searching around but I couldnt find my exact problem listed and therefore i couldnt get any answers
All help greatly appreciated Thanks ^_^
Flash Siyah or Dori Kernel, and then you can do a reset on the Fuel-Gauge chip in Extweaks. If that doesn't work it's maybe a hardware problem and you probably have to replace your battery...
I've read in other fora and have been convinced that Battery Calibration does not work, since in every cycle (or whenever the battery is charged up to 100%), it somehow "resets" or auto-calibrate or something..
Perhaps flashing another kernel would be a good idea..
But nonetheless, you may try BetterBatteryStats to check what's consuming power..

Yeah, just be careful with what version you flash. I don't remember what versions are compatible with gb. Why not upgrade to jelly bean?

Did you recently upgrade ? because that happens for the first 1-2 days or so, or i could be your battery test it by charging it to full and testing it with a voltmeter it should read around ~~~~4.1+ volts

Mega 5.8 - Battery dies within 5 minutes of reaching 20%

Hello all
I am using Mega 5.8 for 15 days now, everything is great. . Battery too is fine works for the whole day and some more but I find it strange that after reaching 20% the battery dies within minutes and phone shuts down. I thought that might be due to new battery but after 10+ recharge cycles this behavior have not changed.
Can anyone confirm that its a common thing with Mega 5.8 or there's some issue with my device.
Also while we are at it any idea when we might get 4.3 update for Mega?
Thankd

I have the same problem . battery reaches 15% and then dies off in no time... So i take my battery as 85% generally . Not sure whats going wrong . But seems like firmware problem . Guys any solution ?

Thanks for the heads up gx3k , but just to clarify i am not new to rooting . Have galaxy S2 which is full blown modified .
I downloaded battery calib app and deleted stats like 10 times...tried to manually delete the stats bin folder....but nothing has worked . I feel the culprit is the rom .
Haven't rooted the phone but don't believe this to be a calibration issue.
May be its firmware but how to confirm unless we get an update.
Sent from my GT-I9152 using xda app-developers app
Same problem with me
Just try this . One you are in middle of your discharge like around 50% just remove the battery for 20 secs and put it back . You will see in battery you have already lost 10-12% of battery . I think this is the case of either wrong battery reporting or bad batteries. Just have to wait for a custom rom to cross check this .
GalaxyMega 5.8 battery life
Same thing here. Already tried calibration. Didn't help.
Was charging it. Removed it from the charger at 60%, I removed the battery and put it back in. The battery % then showed 74%.

Very few users complain about this, maybe because there are only a few of us or it is not an issue as very seldom users remove the battery?
As for me when the level goes between 20-30% which is usually on the 3rd day I recharge the battery.

Dude Battery callibration could help you .. same condition was wid me .. i callibrated n now my battery is MEGA now
1.Root ur fone
2.drain your battery to zero
3.short all your battery terminals to make sure your battery is totally dead..
4.then charge your battery to 100%
5.n press CALLIBRATE from ur callibration software.
i will like to tell you that some processes drain ur battery very rapidly ,, i removed some apps n processes and now battery lasts,
so i will advise u too flash ur fone completly takin ur data backedUp..

Whatever you do "DO NOT SHORT YOUR BATTERY TERMINALS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE" That's a fire hazard. Lithium Ion batteries can generate massive heat very quickly and have been known to explode on occasions.
Practise good battery management by charging your battery whenever possible and keep it on charge for as long as you can. This will condition it to give maximum performance.
Remember you can't get a battery to give any more power than it has from the charge you give it.
Calibration does nothing to the battery it only allows the software to monitor more accurately.
Lithium Ion batteries should never be allowed to discharge below a preset level as they will then die and will not charge again
lol im about to create a thread about this issue, i thought its only me who experienced this issue,, i've encounter this problem as well,, everytime the battery reach the 15% or the low battery warning, it drains very fast from 15 to 1% it just like about 2 minutes then my phone shuts off due to very low battery level
oh yea,, try the *#0228# it shows the real battery %. in my experience,, from 40% battery suddenly drop to 18%. btw for the calibration apps from the playstore, it just delete your batterystats.bin which have no benefit at all. anyone who encounter this problem please share your experience
I installed Battery Notifier and adjusted the low battery alarm at 25% . It is just a workaround but it serves the purpose.

so.. what do you think? is this a software issue or a hardware issue?? cuz if its hardware issue, my mega and the battery still under warranty. iam confused is it really US who encounter this issue or the others didnt realize it cuz they never drain their battery until 15%.

okay our issue is NOT about BATTERY LIFE, but about BATTERY PERCENTAGE,, DUDE.
in this review the reviewer encounter the same issue like us
"A couple of times we experienced a sharp dip in battery life when the levels went below 20 percent"

Hardware or software I don't really know.
As I use the mega 5.8 as my daily phone I see to it that I dont go below 20%. And evry other day or a maximum of 3 days I always recharge my phone. Perhaps other users have a similar routine so very few if any, complain about the issue on this thread.
