i put the settings on desktop view
i close the browser
i re open the browser and the tick is gone off the desktop mode
i do about:debug and put it to chrome desktop or desktop, cant remember which one.

+1 we need to resolve this. It is a pita to keep having to remember to open settings in the browser and check desktop mode. I installed Chrome for Android and it does the same thing. No saved settings for desktop mode.
Anyone?

Hey guys just wanted to share this with everyone in case no one knew this. You can change the default setting on your browser so it doesn't show the mobile sites all the time. To do this type in the browser address bar about: debug then press go. Nothing will happen but then go to settings and scroll all the way down til u see UAString. Click that and you will see ALL the options it gives you, like iphone, desktop, ipad, android ect. Hope this helps!!

No problem man!!
Confirming that it works in Maxtron browser as well.

This works, thanks for the post. One thing I notice is that if you reboot your phone, or if you end the Browser task, you need to re-do about:debug for it to load the custom UA again.

yes I can confirm that after you end the browser you have to redo it.
Is there a way to make the user agent string stick so we don't have to keep changing it back after a reboot or closing the browser completely? This browser is forcing mobile sites with no way to get the full site unles the website has a link for desktop version on their page. This and the fact there's no way to go directly to my home page using menu just sucks.
I seem to have messed up my settings in the default browser, I'm getting redirected to mobile versions of some websites. I can't seem to find a setting to make 'desktop' the default. I can do it fine with Dolphin though.
Can someone point me to the setting?
in the address bar type about:debug hit enter than go to settings and go to debug

What if you're not rooted? The debug thing doesn't seem to work after the touchwiz update

I'll give this a try after work, thanks. BTW, I'm not rooted.

If you re not rooted, UA string: desktop won't stick. Root and install Doc's modded framework is the only permanent solution at the moment. Or else one round about is to set the start page to "about:debug" and press enter twice before going ok to your favorite site. Once to activate UA string(but you dont need ro go into settings itself since bizarrely that sticks). And once more to deactivate debugvso you dont seethe wweird java notification on websites.
yes. Docs launcher is the way to go for browser desktop settings.
Does anyone know how to make my Samsung galaxy 10.1 browse the web like a PC and not the mobile web. I found how to do it on the Acer android tablet but nothing about the galaxy and its really annoying.
Also does any find when typing txt and you want to go back and say edit it you can't just tap where you want on the line you have to drag any drop that blue highlight that pops up, its really annoying too and doesn't happen on my galaxy s2 phone so why on here?

Easy way to do that.
Type "about:debug" in browser address bar.
Then go to menu.
New options in there, find UAstring and change to desktop.
Done.

I upgraded to ICS yesterday and everything seems great. The only issue I have is that I can't find out how to put the stock browser into desktop mode. I found a menu option for "request desktop
site" but it seems to need to be checked everytime you visit the site. Any ideas how to get this turned on permanently?
There may be a way to do it in debug mode but luckily someone has made a version of the stock browser with just such an option easily available!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1439200
Had the same problem just ended up getting ics + browser from the market. Fixed my problem.
wish i had an answer...
probably why everyone uses other browsers like dolphin, or opera...
Ya its weird. The option to do it was in honeycomb but they seem to have forgotten to include it in ICS
You have to type in "about:debug" then go into settings, then into developer or something. Should be in there, under like UA String

I don't seem to have this problem with bookmarked sites. Once I set the drop menu option, add to bookmarks, it will work every time.
For non bookmarked sites it seems to be iffy. Most of the time it continues to work, but sometimes not.
ICS Stock Browser desktop option has something seriously wrong. I cant get pages to load after enabling it. I have to go into system settings and clear cache to make it load pages again. Anyone else having this problem?

I think that this is one of the biggest problems with the stock ICS browser, and its one that has made it unusable for me. I'm moving to Dolphin HD until Google release some kind of fix for this, preferably returning to the old way of setting the user string.
Download ICS browser in the market, the stock is total embarrassment to ICS.
or PC browser ported to Android tablets because I'm tired of getting redirected to mobile phone friendly pages of websites when my Transformer Prime has the same resolution as my 12.1" laptop and thus is capable of displaying websites at the same size.
Why does it look like there's nothing being done about this?
Why does this browser even give off the detail to websites as if the system it's operating on is a mobile phone. There should least be a way to turn this feature off. I'm annoyed by it.
Lots of browsers in the market allow you to disable the mobile version. E.g. ics+ browser.

+1 ICS browser+ is great desktop view option owns!
Problem solved. Downloaded the Dolphin browser from the Marketplace.
This browser looks amazing and is loaded with features. I've already set it to my default browser. The default ICS browser even makes Internet Explorer seem amazing.
HAHAHAHA
Maybe better then IE8. On par with IE9 i would say.
Boat Browser is the best one out there by far imo.
Once you try xScope you stop trying the other ones.
xScope is my favorite and I've tried them all

Have you even tried any other browsers??
Most browsers give you the option of setting mobile or desktop view.

this. I have tried several browsers, none looked and felt as great as Boat
It's all about Firefox Mobile. Give it a try, the awesome tablet UI and plethora of extensions just can't be beat.
ICS browser+ is by far my favorite
Dolphin ftw

Long time opera and dolphin user here, and I have to admit that boat is now the only browser in my adw dock!
There's the great ICS+ improved by a fellow XDA developers member, great stuff indeed.
Cheers
Can u post a link, I tried looking for this, couldn't find it, I tried ics + and love it. Didn't like boat browser

Desktop browsing with Stock Browser - no additional software needed
If you would prefer the Desktop view of websites, rather than the Mobile view, then there is an easy way to change it without using any third party app.
Open the standard browser and type about:debug into the browser's address bar. Then go to Menu > Settings. You should have a new option called Debug. Press Debug, then on the right side press UAstring and change the option to Desktop.
Websites should now be displayed as they would on a computer desktop browser.
Other options are: iphone, ipad, android (default), honeycomb.
Thanks..

Try this:
1) Make a new shortcut to a website (doesn't matter which one, this is just a workaround)
2) Edit that newly created shortcut, make the URL point to 'about:useragent' (without the quotes)
3) If you click on the shortcut nothing will happen. BUT if you now click on the addres bar of the browser the URL should be there. Just press enter.
4) Select the client you want your device to mimic
This doesn't save the client, so you will have to repeat steps 3 & 4 every time you restart the browser. But is a tiny bit more comfortable than editing a configration file I think
