has anyone come across the Razr Battery self discharging? I noticed that recently the phone would run out of battery really quickly, charge very slowly and on top of that the battery will drain even while the phone is off.
Is this a phone motherboard problem or a bad battery?
My RAZR had been doing this even with smart actions on. I used to pull up to work with at least 90% battery n when I got off 12 hours later it would drop to 80% or so. Now I go to work and when I get off its at 50% or less. *note* during the 12 hours I'm not using the phone at all.

sounds like you got a "runaway" program or your somewhere with real sketchy (in and out) signal. check out your battery usage and see whats using the most battery (apps running in background using data networks suck power real quick), and in that click cell standby and see what the percentange of "time without signal" is.
Also, if you don't do it regularly (at least once every 2 weeks) power your phone off all the way and then back, i usually do it right before I plug it up to charge, kinda like what you gotta do with windows XP to keep it from slowing down. I say this because I'm fairly confident that most people don't ever shut there smart phone off unless the batter dies on them, but like xp this copy of gingerbread seems to slow down if run to long without a reboot.
it can't be a runaway program
1. the phone is turned off yet the battery drains.
2. The phone is a fresh install of the latest Verizon ICS leak
Is your phone rooted? if yes, is it rooted with the boot.img replace method?
if yes to both, then you replaced the boot.img after root, with a wrong boot.img...
to solve, create a folder and copy the boot.img from your fastboot package of the leak you installed, or find it form the ota.....
the create a txt file with the followinf command and save it with .bat extension.... then, run the .bat....
command :
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot
its possible I'm not entirely sure. I did do something with the bootloaders as I flashed 209 ICS leak with the UNSTUCK ics thing
Also, have you used a lapdock or hd dock? I had used them before with no problem, but this week if I use the lapdock it starts an application called evbridge which kills the battery. Worse, it shows up in battery usage but not in running applications or ES File Explorer task killer, so the only way to stop it is to power off after undocking.

I run my P500 with two batterys, the official LG one and one i got elsewhere as a reserve, i usualy run the reserve and it usualy lasts 2+ days with ease.
However after updateing to 2.3.3 v20g i noticed a issue with the battery getting to around 30/40% then within 15-30 mins 0% and phone shutting off, after reading up i noticed about removing the battery cache.
I dont recall seeing this option in clockworkmod but anyway i later removed clockworkmod and totaly reset my phone with just the v20g rom.
Put my LG battery in, went 48+ hours no problem, put my other battery in and again when i hit 30-40% the drain hits really fast and soon after the phone shuts down, this battery worked fine with 2.2!
Im unsure if the battery cache stores info for seperate batterys or not? also my phone is running limited apps and not much going on in the background.
And my final question is does rooting a phone cause anymore drain than usual? my phone is currently unrooted as Gingerbreak refused to work on my phone last time i tryed it.
Thanks in advance.
Well since the official battery doesn't cause this problem, the only conclusion is that your other battery has developed a fault. If you think this is being caused by updating, then the update should affect both batteries equally, not in this way. I would say it is a problem with your other battery.
And recovery and/or root are not in any way related to the battery life.
maybe the reserve battery you have is from China ......
anyway the capacitor should be spoiled or battery leak.

One way to check if there is any problem with the battery is to install Battery Monitor Widget and record a full discharge with a constant current as I did ( see 78michel.unblog.fr/HTC Desire battery shutdown analysis)
I got a constant discharge current o about 250mA with ''GPS test'' with ''keep screen on '' option.
This is a very simple way to have a quite precise battery capacity evaluation.
If I never use my phone, I get great battery life and phone stays cool.
However, It seems that whenever I actually need to use the phone to make a call, browse, tether or whatever, something gets triggered and drains the battery.
An hour later when I check my phone, it'll be pretty hot (40 deg celcius) and the battery will be draining fast.
Battery log just shows that Phone Idle is the #1 user.
Restarting the phone or putting it in airplane mode seems to make it go back to 'normal' battery usage.
Is there a better application out there to track what uses the CPU ?
System Lite is a pretty good program that keeps track of CPU and RAM and shows you what is using it and allows you to end task on them as well.
Here's how I would approach it if you brought the phone into my service center.
Verify/duplicate issue
Hard reset
Attempt to duplicate after reset (if this happens then replace phone, if not then next step)
Instruct customer to reinstall only one app a day to see which app is causing the issue.
Install the leaked 198_7 sbf from the Delvelopment subforum and this problem will go away.

Hmm, sounds like some app was acting up then, constantly using CPU. An SBF would definitely reset things.
where are you putting it?

Ive read of similar things happening to people, in many instances it was because they placed their phone in a metal desk at work or in some shielded area where the phone would constantly search for service thereby draining the battery and getting hot. Or you have too many things pushing data constantly.

The sbf doesn't wipe your phone... I think Motorola has a problem (intermittent) that's been addressed.
Razr MAXX running ICS leak
I decided to let my battery run down to zero last night and let it charge while I sleep. I got to work this morning and just notice my battery is at 50%! The only change I really made yesterday was re-enabling smart actions, and setting a wifi connected trigger to turn data off. I'm thinking this may be the cause of the drain. Here are some screens.

I have no clue what "deleted_wake_locks" is. All my google results seem to point to wifi usage, and am thinking there is an issue with Smart Actions and Wifi might be the culprits.

There is an app that is not letting your wifi sleep.
Something is keeping your wifi on all the time and eating up your battery. Check out this app in the market and report back with the results, it's called "My Data Manager" and it will tell you which app or process is eating up all your wifi. Let me know what it says.

This might be helpful as well, this guy changed the DTIM interval on his router and it fixed his issue.

I've found on the stock rom, the Verizon wifi control app works well for turning wifi on and off by cellular location, ive heard tasker does this well also. Ive had no luck with smart actions. You also might want to go to settings, wireless, wifi settings, hit menu, then advanced settings, then change the sleep policy, if you have root you could also change the scan interval by editing the build.prop or using rom tool box. But do kill the wake lock, it not only keeps the wifi from sleeping, it also keeps your phone from going into its low power state

I am having a similar problem with my Razr (not MAXX). Just today i noticed the phone getting hot in my pocket. I then saw the battery was almost dead after only 4 hours unplugged and very little use. I recently rooted and flashed the clutch extreme version. I dont use wifi. I have autokilled everything useless, ive checked the running apps and nothing wierd seems to be running, in the battery usuage, after 4 hours unplugged "google services" and "android os" both had 33% of the battery use. But like i said i cant see what is draning it...any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
Even im having some issue there's a process called Media which always is 92% and eats lot of battery.....so is there any way to kill this process?
If your phone is rooted my advice is to use ti backup and freeze the bloat ware the list of pre installed apps safe to freeze/uninstall can be found in the forum, when your phone reports "android os" "system" "media" its a general term that covers built in apps. The major culprit ive found is Verizon's back up apps, media is probably motocast, try mulling around in the settings and set the sync settings to as minimal as possible, also if you guys don't mind, I'm curious about this, when i first had batt life problems i ran voodoo ota and disabled root and forgot to re-enable root, with bloat and all i seemed to have better bat life, anyone want to test and see if its the same for them? Wondering if Verizon is being sneaky, and pulling carrier iq -esqe info from rooted stock

Never let your battery go down to zero. That is very bad for lithium batteries.
ok guys i found solution to media process.....Android media was trying to update it's music player and galery and since there were some media files which were too big in size and seems other files were corrupt so Media was trying to read them and thus eating up lot of clock cycles and thus draining battery. So once you identify which media file is causing the problem then media process get's minimal. About android OS process there's nothing we can do except to freeze some bloat.
Another way to disable media, though you have to do it every time you reboot, is to kill the process in running process in settings then applications. Mine does the same thing.

I was under the impression that the android os has a safety built in that keeps you from actually reaching 0, and the process of draining your phone until it shuts off, wiping battery stats in recovery, and charging too full while shut down was more to retrain the os to see 100% at a closer point to full and 0% at a lower safe point of shutdown... i know flashing roms not at 100% battery can muck up the scale, a good indicator is that your phone shuts off from low battery, you reboot and it reports a something like 20-30% battery

I would assume this is true for all android devices but at least for Razr I can assure you that it will turn off the phone before the battery gets below the critical voltage. That said it is almost always better to recharge well before it gets that low and as much as it is possible charge to full. I almost always charge over night.
Sorry for mistakes, hope it's not hard to understand
Looks like i have smth like this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1515020 but on my RAZR XT910
When i bought my RAZR, everything was ok it was on 2.3.5 droid, when 2.3.6 released everything still was perfect, but when i started trying to setup custom ROMs, this issue started... I tried to get back to 2.3.5 through RSD - its not helped. Now i'm on T-Mobile 4.0.4, everything is the same.
Fully charged phone, idling, some calls, it goes to 80%, then it jumps to 20% then to 5%(during this, voltage drops to 3.5, but then goes up to 4.1-4.0 as it must be!) . Phone works well, it took about 4 hours for battery drainer to drain this "5%".
I tried to fully charge\discharge without using phone, i tried any tutorials that will help to "calibrate" battery. Nothing helped.
I think it happens when Voltage drops to 3.5, OS thinks that its discharged, but when it goes back to 4.1, battery lvl is still low.
Maybe someone can help me with this issue...
Now i just added battery info widget, which shows me Voltage, so i can understand charge lvl... thats annoying
And i cant go to Motorola Service(No official service in Russia) and cant return my phone, it will took a lot of time... and i think this issue must be fixed..
have you tried like the battery calibration apps in the app market?
i tried a lot of apps from market, and nothing helped.
Try do this:
Manual Calibration method:
A) Charge your phone to 100% (and let the phone charge for half an hour after the 100%)
B) Install bootstrap recovery
C) Reboot your phone through the bootstrap recovery program
D) In recovery go to advanced>wipe battery stats>Yes, wipe battery stats
E) Reboot your phone
F) Do 2 or 3 full charge/discharge cycle (100% - 15% < X =< 0% )
If this won't do, flash the stock rom and send it to RMA.
Never let the phone to reach 0% and die, your battery will take damages 'cause of that.
i think bootstrap cant be installed on T-Mobile 4.0.4
If you're rooted, you can install this
I've used it on the T-Mobile Leak without problems. Flashed the overclock.zip with it (But no overclocking on the Leak, the script won't work)
The risk is the wipe. I'm not sure, if it messed up with your Phone

That is true, but I wonder if Android seriously lets you drop your cells to 0%... It still has enough capacity to shut itself down without interruption. So I guess there might be an internal protection against reaching "real 0% charge".
Still it is not too healthy for your battery

thanks! razr is rooted, so it works!
now i'm going to test what Syriochan said
@sekall: yeah it is possible that 1% (or maybe 5%) remains, but it is also true that no developers noticed something during kernel developing for any android device. So it may be true but it's better to not let it drop under 10% or 5%
@amletika: Not sure if calibration app do the same (never tried one, always used this method) but i've had 7 android phones so far and battery life was always at it's maximum after wipe and cycles. (I believe battery stats are kernel or data related so i don't know if this will work for you, consider that maybe hardware is at fault in this case)

Please post back after you do.
I have setup ics bootstrap. And made battery wipe immediately, when my phone was about 3.9V and was saying its 5% of battery. When i rebooted it was saying that this is 30%. Then i charged to 100% waited a little more and unplugged. Its about 24hours of using with normal load, and there was no battery lvl jumps!! Thank you guys!
P.s. i dont know what battery calibration apps does, I tried a lot of them, but only wipe through ics bootstrap recovery helped!

Hello
Recently the battery on my phone very quickly discharged.
The phone is after a hard reset without any applications installed.
When it is almost unused batteries lasts about 5 hours
android os 88%
phone idle 5%
display 4%
stanby mobile 3%
When surfing the Internet or make the call battery is discharged after 1-2 hours.
I'm going to send the phone for warranty repair in UK.
Has anyone had a similar problem?
How long will it take to repair it?
Looks like some application is using up lots off battery. Try resetting your phone, install apps one by one.. If student you lose battery life that's the culprit.

It's not an app that's using up battery life, it's the "Android OS" itself. Uninstalling apps would have a small effect.
Though I do recommend a factory reset, it could be a setting that is using up all this battery.
Battery usage when turned OFF???
I've seen something that really surprised me. I have two Razrs, nearly identically configured. One of them I turn off most of the week except when I need to tether. I charge it once a week.
I thought this was a fluke, but it's happening consistently since ICS:
It used to be when I charged the battery once a week, this phone was nearly completely charged and only took a minute or so to reach 100% charge.
Now under ICS, when I plug the phone in for charging once a week, the battery meter reads below 50% and takes a couple of hours to charge up to 100%.
What has changed with ICS?
Is there something still running when I turn the phone off now? It would seem to me that OFF should mean OFF.
Or, is the ICS battery meter more accurate? Or does the meter need to be reset to 0 somehow? I did do a factory reset after installing ICS.
Any shared wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

With those stats, there's nothing wrong with the battery. I've never seen the Android OS use more power than the display (doesn't make any sense why it should). There's something running intensely on your phone. The bloatware is considered part of the OS (motorola apps), try disabling some of them. Otherwise I'd suggest a factory reset/cache wipe but since you've already done that, try re-downloading the OTA and installing all over again

There is no applications installled on my phone.
It is just after factory reset.
Its one of the famous "Android OS" suspend bufg which makes the cpu not to go in deep sleep.I am facing the same problem right now but couldnt find a solution
I sent my phone to repair centre twice but my problem still is not fixed. Sometimes it works ok but sometimes battery lasts about 5 hours.
