Hi there,
is there a way to make the system scan a mounted cifs share for media files?
When I put a media file on the sd-card it gets listed in the media player.
But when I mount a cifs-share the system doesn´t recognise the files in the linked directory. I also can´t save playlists from SMB-MP3 files for example.
I have a rooted rom (based on Archos 4.0.6) from the dev section on my G9 101.
Thanks for any help..

When I hook my tablet up to the PC via USB, I get a drive letter in Windows. When I open that drive, there are files in there- however, I can't find where these files are on the tablet when I look there. There are folders in the PC view like Android, data, DCIM, Download, kindle, LOST.DIR, media, and .android_Secure and .HuffPost. However, these are not folders on my SD card (which would be /sdcard2) or my internal /SDcard folder. I've tried hunting and pecking through the tablet file structure and doing searches on the files in the folders, but I can't find where the location I see on the PC is on the tablet.
Any help? Big thanks in advance. I successfully rooted the tablet using the TNT_Lite ROM, and haven't noticed any other problems.
debug mode....
I've found the same...sort of. Sometime I get that it is in debug mode and I can't access file, and other times it does mount fine and I can access the files.
It's not that. When USB Debugging is on, I can't see the tablet in Windows.
Just to ask while waiting for a better answer- when everyone here connects their G tablet via USB to their PC, what area do they connect to?
Not sure if this is any different from Vegan's setup but I'm assuming it isn't.
The files and folders you listed when you connect your tablet to your pc via usb are in the "/sdcard" directory. On vegan tab at least, it is set up so that your internal memory (the 16 gb or whatever it is that is built into the tablet) is accessed through the folder /sdcard. What you may be confusing this with is either the /sdcard2, which would be an external microsd card, or the root ("/") directory of your tablet.
All of You,
Here is a link to a post I did that should help you:

Okay, I plug in my phone via USB to the 360, i see Portable Device ... great ! i click on it and see all my folders and files, now most of my music is on my Memory Card , Now, I think my s2 file structure is slightly offputting, and i dont know why ....anyway,
My root structure says SDCARD which is my phone internal memory , but in my root I have External_sd folder (which is my sdcard) from the look of things.. anyway If i use a file manager on my phone I can open the folder external_sd.. however.... on my 360 i can but its just blank. :/
any ideas anyone?
Hello together,
mp3 and jpeg will not found through the mediascanner on internal usb storage. I see nothing in galerie and player. If i copy my mp3/jpeg to the external sd-card, it works fine. But now i have the known CWM bug.
Why do the mediascanner ignore my media files on the internal USB storage ?
There is no .nomedia file. Is it forbidden to use the usb storage for media files ?
best regards
Klaus
I am using CHECKROM V2 ..
I cant believe, that i am the only one, who have this problem !
More detailed description:
Files in /sdcard/usbStorage/Music/*.mp3 will not be shown in music player.
Files in /sdcard/external_sd/Music will be shown
During copy my files to usbstorage i will see the music for a while, also pictures. But, if all data are copied, i see nothing anymore.
Does it work on yout side ?
Problem solved !!!
sdcard/usbstorage is the wrong directory
if you have problems, copy your data over a usb connection..
Hi, someone have probably asked this question but:
I've upgraded from stock 4.0 to PA 2.52 (4.1) and suddenly all my media files disappeared from music player and gallery.
- SDrescan doesn't work
- there are no .nomedia files
- when i plug my phone to laptop via USB only files created after upgrade appear (but I can see all the "old" and "new" files in OI file manager)
-neither SD mount widget nor mounting through CW recovery seems to work, so there's no possibility of copying files to my laptop and formatting memory
what to do ?
Hi there,
I've just bought a Nexus 4, with rom stock 4.4.2, unlocked & rooted.
I have a strange issue with storage, I have files that I can see on android storage (with ES File explorer or root explorer), and I can't see those files on Windows.
Here it is exactly what I've done under Windows 7 :
- Plug my phone with MTP or PTP
- Storage detected
- Copy a lot of files on the storage, we call those files "FILES1" (no images files).
- My files (FILES1) are on the USB storage under Windows.
- Copy all my photos, and process.android.media" crash, it seems to be a kitkat known bug.
- Tried to find a workaround on forum and I've clean data/cache of application "media storage".
- Not working at all and new bug appears ! Now on two different computer (Windows7), I can see the android storage but it's empty !
- On my phone it's not empty, with explorer, the files (FILES1) on the storage are present.
- Copy all my photos with Airdroid on the phone, we call those files "FILES2"
- Now on my Windows, I can see FILES2 (files copied after the empty bug) but no FILES1
- Via android explorer I can see that all the files are here and are working as intended !
I hope you understand my problem, this issue is really hard to explain.
Any ideas to see my FILES1 on Windows please ?
Any application to clean cache ?
Any idea of what's happening ?
Thanks
I don't fully understand the issue. Which files aren't showing, exactly? Have you tried rebooting the phone?
The issue is so strange it's hard to explain.
In fact, for resume, when I'm plugging Nexus 4 on Windows 7 USB, I can't see all the files on my storage :
On Windows, I can see the copied files after clearing data/cache of storage media android application
On Windows, I can't see the copied files before clearing data/cache of storage media android application
On Android (with file explorer), I can see ALL the files.
I've cleared data/cache of storage media android application because of the process.android.media hanging when copying images files.
Instead of repairing, it create a big visibility bug on my storage =(
Even with reboot, this files visibility bug persist.
