[Q] My words list - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone found a way to modify the file that contains the "My words list" you can add to in predictive text? Because obviously you lose everything everytime you reboot phone and is a serious problem for me, so anyone know which file it is so I can keep it backed up.

[Q] SGS2 after update to 2.3.5

Hi,
I cannot edit /default.prop after update.
To be more accurate, I can edit it, but after reboot it is the way it was before.
I have root, any idea what is happening?
CORRECTION it's 2.3.4
Could be a couple of things,
1. I've read a post on here before about a phone that couldn't be flashed with different firmware at all, possibly due to corrupted nand memory.. Hopefully yours isn't
2. How are you editing the file, are you using something like root explorer or copying the file onto pc then trying to push / paste it back to the phone, because either way you have to make sure you have write access to the system and file.
Hope you get it sussed

Thanks for the reply, morg01.
I used for editing a pack of tools, first "super manager" to mount "/" as RW then either "script manager" to edit the file, or Terminal Emulator to add the needed line.
So far I've only found a workaround for the problem, by using ADW launcher, instead of original one. But even though it is very rich in options I prefer the TouchWiz. ADW is kind of lagging I have no idea why
What exactly is nand memory, and how could it get corrupted. I've experienced some problems lately, with a slight pressing of the back cover or if it is removed on the upper end of the battery the phone reboots.
Is it possible to be more than just a battery problem?

[Q] [U] Where can I find dictionaries and how to edit them

Hi,
I'd like to edit a dictionary - add much more words. I know where is the user dictionary (data/data/com.android.providers.userdictionary/databases/user_dict.db) and I've tried to edit it with SQLite Manager (Addon for firefox - couldn't find something better while searching google for 5 seconds) but with no effect - when I tried to export it as a .db and open again, it shows database is corrupted :crying:
Can anyone tell me step by step how to and with which program may I edit dictionary?
Thanks in advance :cyclops:
@refresh
I dont think manually editing that db would be possible so easiest thing, create a blank Dictionary, add the words you want from Rom, then copy over the .db file
from Rom
Click to collapse
You mean writing it by phone? It may take to much time :x
Sorry mate Im afraid my previous response was wrong ;( As it turns out, the db file is encrpyted with the rom. If you install another rom, I believe it wont work again Not sure, If someone could confirm, could be nice

fix_mediaDrain.zip - HELP ME!!

HELP!!
When i was running the RGUI ROM (JB) there was a fix zip to use in CWM to fix the 'Media' drain in the battery.
This worked wonders! So i just tried to flash it to my device again, except now i'm running the 'Anonorom' ROM.
It worked. Or flashed without error anyway.
The problem now is that since the reboot, the 'Fonts' have failed to be picked by my apps.
This is most noticibly with UCCW. The widget i created for the homescreen uses about 5 different fonts and its defaulted to 1 default font.
When i open the widget to change the fonts back, it tells me theres only 1 font available; "Default" and that if i want to add more then to put them in 'sd:\fonts'.
I've gone back to my file manager and checked this location and there are LOADS of fonts in there still, so its not as if they've been deleted.
Clearly this is the work of the fix_mediaDrain.zip, which i now obviously regret flashing. And WHO KNOWS what other errors i will now encounter!
So my question is, other than reflashing the ROM (which would be a pain because i've also flashed the JKay framework and other things like that, and amanaged to get the phone to my liking) does ANYONE know of a kind of UNDO fix for this fix_mediaDrain.zip that i can flash.
Obviously i dont even know if it exists,im just praying, but if anyone has any ideas i would greatly appriociate it.
I'm guessing the media scanner has been stopped, or a .nomedia file has been placed in the fonts folder.
So first check if there is a file called .nomedia in this folder and if so, delete it and reboot.
If not, then get rescan media root from play and try to enable media scanner and reboot.
Report back please

Firstly, thanks for your reply..
I've checked the location for a '.nomedia' file and no it does not exist.
I even checked 'Root Explorer' incase the file was hiddenin my regular file manager. Still nothing.
I downloaded the 'Rescan Media Root' app, which looked successful, but didnt fix my issue.
I tried a different app called 'media Rescan Lite', but that too did not fix the issue.
It's not looking good for me is it?
well the obvious path note really is to post in the Rom thread/contact dev and find out what the file does and how it can be reverted, let me know if you don't have enough posts and I will post link to your dilemma for you

I have contacted the developer of this fix to ask what it does exactly and if theres any way to undo the fix.
I have also added a post to the thread where this fix was first suggested to me in the past, incase anyone there might be able to shed some light on it..
I will post my findings once i ear back from anyone incase anyone else ever has this problem...
Thanks again.
SOLVED!!
I have managed to fix this problem!
This is going to sound RIDICULOUS but.....
I renamed the 'Fonts' folder on my sdcard slightly.
I say 'renamed', but all i did was make the filename all lowercase, creating "fonts" instead of "Fonts".
Then, IMMEDIATLY, the fonts on my widget wer back to normal..!
How very odd that this was changed by the 'fix_mediaDrain.zip' throgh CWM + reboot.

[Q] edited platform.xml now all apps stopped

so to fix the kitkat issue with being unable to write to external sd card, i followed the tutorials that said to edit
/system/etc/permissions/platform.xml
and add media_rw grouip to WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE
I used miexporer to browse to and edit the file
the first time i did it, it messed up bcause i copied pasted from a site that had double quotes where as all the other group definitions did not have double quotes.
upon rebooting, the phone would get stuck and crash. screen would go blank and all buttons would be come unresponsive.
i was finally able to get into the phone by unlocking the phone as soon as it came up.
unfortunately i get a bunch of messages saying "Unfortunatel gapps stopped" or "unfortunately <misc app name here> stopped". most of them were google apps.
to top it off, i later discover that the quotes got pasted as like "smart quotes" argh.
anyways, i was able to finally get miexplorer to edit the file and remove the offending entry and resave the file. my expectation was that the phone should have been back to it's original condition before i messed up, but all the apps are still crashing.
anybody have any ideas what is going on or what i can try?
Some of the guides i'd seen said that platform.xml should have permissions 644. I verified this but that hasn't seemed to do anything.

How to change miui (system) text in (default Phone app)?

Hi there.
I want to change text in default phone app. Actually i want to replace "recording" to something else while in call is going on.
Also if possible, I want to change "recorded calls"to something else.
I am using miui 10.3.8.0 rooted.
Any help?
I have come to know that for this i need to edit apk file.
I have managed to install easy apk tool.
Now I want to know what apk file name of dialer is? So that I can change it's text string? Seriously its hard to decompile every related app from phone, dialer, conference dialer, and then look and find for string "record" or "recording calls"
And if I some how managed to i change it. Will that moded apk (dialer or phone application) work?
