Few days back Sony announced ICS upgrade for my Sony Ericsson wt19i Live with Walkman but it seems that ICS is too much performance consuming and too heavy for wt19i's 512mb RAM and GHz processor.
I currently have a rooted Gingerbread 2.3.4 (and yes with a lot of personal customization) STOCK ROM which I like very much.
Now as you can see in this post by Sony Blog they did not officially released ICS for wt19i Live yet. But I want to try ICS right now. I have found a ICS ROM which can be flashed via FLASH TOOL and can be installed without unlocking bootloader.
Now my questions are:
Is it safe to upgrade this release?
Can I revert back to my old ROM after upgrading?
I have a Nandroid Backup of my whole system, can I simply use restore my Gingerbread 2.3.4 ROM after upgrading to ICS?
If your answer is no, can you help me how to downgrade back to 2.3.4 after upgrading to ICS?
Any help, link, rom, procedure will be of great help
I am a noob, so please try to be descriptive.
Thank You
U can just go in 2 download mode if anything goes wrong or u dont like it (turn off phone hold down volume am plug usb u shud kno dis) no special procedure shud be needed although i haven't heard of that Rom yet

If you want to restore remember to be on the same kernel you backed up on, and check if the baseband is supported on the rom.

Hi everyone!
I'm tired using custom roms for their instability and fc's everywhere for over a year I didnt found Rom that works perfect all the time with many apps installed so I just want to my phone work, dont want to flash new system every month again.
I was running stock with deleted apps, Set Cpu (tnx to gregbradley (edit: that was neoxx3m very good advidce, sorry my bad) and z-kernel for about 4 months and I was happy, that was one and only Rom that i've used so long. Yes it wasnt so fast but it was very stable and everything works so nice not even one fc. (kindda wierd couse ive installed z-kerner on my Unlocked BL x10 and now I can't and dont wanna to play and relock)
So i wanna repair my phone and get back to stock, root it, delete all uneeded apps and flash the most stable kernel so will it be failsafe from doom right?
And the question is will my plan work? I know that phone will not be so fast but will everything work and this is all I need or maybe someone has better idea?
Also have some questions about the newest fw for this Doom UB kernel. Where do i get this newest se fw?
Any help will be very appriciated.
Restore the phone back to stock using SEUS. That should do the trick

Last few ROMS Ive installed from scratch. So repair, root, etc I've even format sd card everythime i flash new rom. The question is:
Will doomkernel work on stock rom repaired in pc companion?
Will it be stable?
DoomKernel is stable on stock unlocked BL, but u have few version. X, S and one more i think. Look at his thread an try it.

Have to try but Doom writes thet this kernel is for NEWEST SE FIRMWARE, will it work on stock just repaired in pc companion?
Someone made the topic that He was tring to flash this newest firmware (3.x.x.x) and ended with no boot and anything could help him
I was running stock with deleted apps, Set Cpu (tnx to gregbradley advidce) (...) and I was happy,

It will work because when u repair ur phone via PCC u get latest firmware (2.3.3/3.x.x.x.x.x), but my advice is to try relock BL and use zKernel, i did that yesterday and i'm happy again!
Sent from my "z10i"
I told you that dont wanna play with bootloader no more, maybe for some time i would like to try some kernel or rom (if im not happy for using stock and doom) and will have to unlock again so im patience (tring to) and will not to this for a while.
Anyway strange is that i flash zKernel even if i had unlocked Bootloader and it work fine but when i tried to do this again ( didnt know that this kernel is fo Locked only) it didnt work
Im planning to buy Xperia Ray after i hard bricked(totally dead) my galaxy mini plus but i have couple questions to ask first before buying.
1. Is it ok to upgrade to official ICS even with some issues? or should i stick to GB?
2.What are the issues after the ICS is isntalled?
2. What is the latest GB? because in my galaxy mini plus its 2.3.6
3. Is it easy to root? because my classmate said the higher your phone is the harder to root
4. If i want to to install custom rom what is the best rom?
all my questions are for Xperia Ray. ill wait for some replies beforing doing something after i bought Xperia Ray.

1.Gb is more stable than ics,and gaming etc is better on gb
2.the latest gingebread version for our phones is 2.3.4
3.Rooting shouldnt be a problem, there are a lot of tools in development section
4.If you want ics custom rom try real ics r5.2 it was the best for me, when you want gingerbread try my rom (signaature)hasa rom by sandy07,or nerodroid
Note:To install custom roms you will have to unlock your bootloader and flash kernel manually (This will void garanty,i think in samsung the kernel flashes automaticly in CWM) But there are also custom roms that can be installed on locked bootloader my rom, hasa gb,real ics etc
Hope i helped you

ohh so i can't install custom rom yet if my phone is still under warranty not like in samsung they said it will only void the warranty once you open your phone aka hardware.
is the real ics r5.2 is stable and its like an official ICS?
mind telling me what are the issues of ICS on xperia ray.

You can install a custom Rom,just unlock bootloader wich will void guarantee but you can also relock it and you can use Roms that work on locked bootloader,Real Ics is a very great Rom,its stable and much faster than stock Rom,
Only issues i think are the LED when you receive sms or missed a Call they dont work

I'll try to answer it, hope can help you
1. GB is more stable, more efficient on battery, good for gaming.. but it's ok too if you want to upgrade it to ICS, actually it's stable and good though GB is a bit better.. if you want more rocks on ICS then do some tweaks or use Custom kernel and ROM
Issues just lag on your phone but it just a little bit and if you try to use phone like a monster device(?)
2. Latest GB from Google is 2.3.7, but on Ray (Official Sony) 2.3.4
3. No .. there too many ways and awsome people will break up the shadow!
4. The Best ROM.. everyone have different experience for use their phone and CusROM also offer different advantages, so it's all back to you again..
Tips from me , if u want use CusROM for daily use then choose ROM wif minimal bugs or NO BUG..
That's from me, thanks

as of my experience:
1. Yes ics is really brilliant but and has a smoother web broeser than gb. however its main issues are you just cant play some games on it as well as its a real pain for hd graphical games to play , might cause serious lags fcs in games. for such reasons i rolled back to gb.
2.ics can handle certain things faster than gb but as we know Xperia 2011 series are now classified as low range phones.because they've got single core 1 ghz with 210/512 mb ram which is only meant for gb only.
rooting is not a big issue once you've rooted ur phone the rest is like a butter. latest official rom is 2.3.4
3 for thhe custom rom 2.3.7 is best.
4. you'd better buy Galaxy Ace2( Dual core processor .and 750 mb of ram space its a good device for ics and gaming (which sported by mali gpu 400.:good:

so thats how to clean install official ICS. thanks ill copy paste that instruction in notepad.
ill do those instruction when i have the phone.
Hi,
I´m from Portugal and since December i have a Xperia U (Optimus operator), stock ROM was 2.3.7. After 2 weeks i update using Pc Companion to ICS (release 6.1.1.B.1.54 ). I notice some delay in response, no big deal, i was satisfied with it. But after about 10 days or so, it start freezing aplications, and some errors messages. After it when i want to use the phone it only shows a screen saying that only emergency calls allowed". Werd, i take out the battery teh SIM, and the same problema, can use at all the phone. Take it to the warranty, they reset the factory settings, and install again the 2.3.7. Phone is fine, the first day i have aftaer the warranty i install the ICS using the PC companion (official release from Sony) again. Guess what 3 days later the same problem. They restore again the phone with 2.3.7 an till now, after 2 or 3 weeks the phone is fine.
I´m thinking Sony made a bad job with ICS to the Xperia U. What you guys think about it? Do you think i can install a custom ROM or other rOM from Sony? I don´nt now if there are others to my phone. Wich custom ROMS can i use?
Thanks guys for the help, and sorry about my English

You should be able to upgrade to ICS .54 using PC Companion or Sony Update Service. Have you tried them? If you intend to use Flashtool I suggest to use firmware 6.1.B.1.54 as it's the more updated, and it's the base for many modified ROM here in XDA. I'm using a .54 based ROM (previously STOCK Rom .54) and no problems with WI-FI. Sometimes very little lags, but nothing annoying..

If you are going to flash ICS,I would suggest you to flash 6.1.1.b.1.54 as it is more stable and fast.
Answers to your questions:
1: The phone lags a bit with ics but it is worth upgrading.I don't have any problems with ics.
2: Nope.Wifi is working fine.
For flashing refer to this guide:
Thread

Simply NO...The new stock firmware 6.1.1.b.1.89 doesn't lag.
-Camera still takes 3 seconds to start,
-Photos taken in dark came out pretty greenish(flash ON/OFF).
-Its quite an achievement that the overall UI feels a lot smoother than the .154 firmware.
-Though i am having problems with the wifi(not tethering).
I am a fellow ST25i user and since I got the 4.0.4 I have experienced problems with the Wi-Fi, with 2 of the same models. But 1 is working but 1 doesn't lol. If I switch the Wi-Fi on it will put the device into boot loop but I can re-install using Sony Update Service but it will happen again if I turn it on. Also with my device I like the touch sounds and keyboard sounds on but when I put the phone in silent mode, and turn the volume to full it will no longer make sounds even if I change it on the settings, I have to do settings reset to get the sounds working again. There are a few bugs for this phone and it's a big shame. I've read elsewhere people are unable to use Wi-Fi no more and I can't really see Sony fixing it...
But this may not happen to you. It may just be my device I did buy it second hand.. But I hope 4.0.4 goea well for you

Flashtool is best tool! I luv it!
If u brick sony phone you can use flashtool bring back to normal very very good.
Hey guys...i have an Xperia Mini Pro SK17i that from the day that it received Android ICS 4.0.4 its become nearly unusable cause its being really annoyingly slow. It takes at least 10 seconds for an App to launch and web pages take a long time to load, it takes ages to boot and even scrolling between homescreens is a pain in the ass.
With what i read so far, since i cant upgrade to Jelly bean cause Sony hasnt given that update to that phone, i figured out my only solution to the problem is to either go back to Gingerbread or root and flash a Jelly bean rom that performs well in my phone. Problem is as i kept reading..and saw with how many ways its possible to root and flash roms, kernels, fastboot and all those words that i have no idea what the mean..i got even more confused on which way is the most safe so i wont brick my phone and destroy it and which is the most simple way to do it.
Sorry for being a clueless android user, i had an iPhone for so many years and i recently got an Android so i need some time to learn how to be able to mod and fix it.
So the question is...how do i root this specific device and flash a custom rom? The more details the better....
Currently it has stock android ICS 4.0.4...
Thanks in advance.
If you don't want to root it, its fine
You can still downgrade to gb
Download flashtool (google)
Download your device's gb FTF rom file.
Flash it via flashtool
Now these steps are elaborated in general section stickies tool-guides-etc etc thread by someguy in hell.
If you want to root it followw mihanns rooting guide in general stickies and also his guide on installing custom rom

Root with the post in general, install Xparts and install recovery with xparts. Then if you will install a GB rom, flash before the ftf file of GB stock, the same with ics, if you will install a ICS rom, flash before the ftf file of ICS stock.Using flashtool
If you have Unlocked bootloader, you have to flash a kernel that you want and then the rom.

Definitely Jellybean.
Rooting is not enough to install JellyBean You will also have to unlock bootloader
And ICS - I think You have updated it without wiping data. The difference between GB and ICS is huge, so the official updating method through PC Companion will end like this - very poor performance. IMO clean install for ICS is needed. Of course it will work slower than with GB, but it wasn't a big difference (IMO).
Now I'm using JB and it's still not bugless. But it can be used for daily use for sure Now, when nAa and other devs are working on 3.0.8 kernel - it will bring a second life to 2011 Xperia line phones
My opinion is to root your device and after root u have to install titanium backup app cause once u will open it after root it will fix something in permissions I think.. Install CWM through X-Parts app "you can get it from play store".. Boot into recovery.. Wipe data, dalvic cache and reset settings "Make sure u backup what u want before doing this through titanium backup or other backup app".. Then install Root Uninstaller to uninstall bloatware apps and stick with stock ICS or a custom ICS ROM if u r looking for bugless ROM as JB ROMs will not be lighter than ICS on our xperia mini pro and they r not bugless.. So dun go through any of them right now, maybe later after nAa finish this 3.0.8 kernel.. If u need any further support just PM me or feed me back here.. Few things after the above and ur device will be very efficient )
Good Luck
