No phone function - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

Hi all. First post so be kind! I have spent hours searching but cannot find a solution which works, or anything which comes close.
I managed to get my hands on a used S5830. The phone boots and everything seems as it should be other than it registers no sim, no signal (or rather a no entry sign where the bars should be). The IEMI, baseband version, network & mobile network type all show as "unknown".
My first thought was to check the efs folder, but there isn't one. So I then tried to flashing various different firmwares, no luck there either. I also tried flashing different modems, again, no joy.
The phone also turns itself off or reboots about every 10 minutes or so. Even if the phone is turned off it will turn itself back on. I have to take the battery out to stop it draining.
The phone was already like this when I got it, I don't know what the previous owner did to it.
Current setup is...
GT-S5830
Baseband: unknown
Kernel version: [email protected]#1
Build: GINERBREAD.XWKS3
Any help appreciated. Cheers.

Half bricked. How is your emei?
the Mafia aka KASE ARe For TroLLing

Its half bricked coz no imei. Sorry didnt see ur post.
the Mafia aka KASE ARe For TroLLing

Dang. What actually causes the problem do you know?

Hmmm...what did u actually do? Try reflashing again via odin. If not, send it to service center and say u updating via kies
the Mafia aka KASE ARe For TroLLing

I bought the phone cheap, not sure what the previous owner did to it. Probably tried to root it. Have tried various firmwares via odin, single packages and multiple. The phone/modem just doesn't seem to flash.

Pity,it must be halfbricked before u bought it. Get ur cash back
the Mafia aka KASE ARe For TroLLing

Maybe it was packaged with Froyo? Try that (if this was there in your various firmwares ignore this )

No. The old owner was trying to unlock the phone but failed, lost his IMEI, and no way to get it back..
Sent from my GT-S5830 using Tapatalk 2

I did try Froyo, it was the only multi package I could find.
The previous email attempting to unlock it makes sense as it's not completely bricked.
I don't know how possible it is to reconstruct the imei. I have read several examples and guides of fixing or resetting them but it relies on having the efs folder in the first place.
It's quite fun learning from a broken phone!

The folder is in a partition on the phone whichs is easily corrupted when you try to access it. It's as useful as an iPod now.

insert the sim properly with the golden plates down and the cut end outward. Then go to settings>>>wireless>>> untick the flight mode.
I think it's broken
Try reflashing back with the original stock rom.
It looks to me the baseband is not installed properly, and therefore unable to access IMEI, without a working baseband, you are unable to access the phone portion.
It could also be that the nv_data.bin file is damaged due to a bad sim unlock hack. If that is so, you will have to rebuild that file.
Again, try reflashing back to original stock rom, before trying to rebuild the nv_data.bin.
(Sorry to resurrect old-ish topic, but I think it's better to continue here than to make a new one.)
Same problem here, except the only custom thing I've ever run on this phone, is apps from market. I'm running SPB Shell 3D (legal version, but not through Android Market but the other thing SPB was selling their programs through... Handango? Not that it matters.)
The phone has been running ALMOST perfectly since day one. I can only remember two occasions that the phone was in "no reception" mode (the O with slash through it) and toggling Flight Mode on and then off fixed it both times before.
However, yesterday I noticed the icon again, thought nothing of it and switched Flight Mode on. It never went back on again. Googling the problem I bumped into the imei/baseband thing and sure as not, when checking my phone's data there is "unknown" in the baseband version and IMEI is empty.
Trying to enter Mobile Networks settings results in "insert sim" notification.
The phone is (OS-wise) completely stock, I think the only thing I have ever done to it since then was to update it to 2.3.5 via KIES when it became available.
Phone is unbranded and not simlocked and never was. The only alterations are the aforementioned SPB Shell 3D and WidgetLocker. And of course a bunch of "normal" apps, games and such.
I placed a call (which went unanswered for all it matters), then after a short while (five minutes or so) noticed the "no reception" -icon. Then all went to hell.
Tried with three different SIM cards, none work on this phone, all work on other phones. Currently SIM working in Galaxy Gio.
I plan to take the phone to repairs under warranty, I'll let you know what they say and what happens to the phone if I remember.
help!
I have the same problem. The phone is 5 weeks old. I dont know what happened afternight with it :-(

READ the restore IMEI restore EFS posts but first backup data and try a factory reset .
jje
In my case, it was perhaps a bit more extreme. I sent it to the repair shop under warranty, it came back practically new. They had changes most of the innards, including the motherboard. Something had apparently shorted itself and cleared some chip. Hadn't gotten anything more specific out of them and I've even sold the phone since then and got this Galaxy Note.

just a precaution.....alwayz backup ur efs a tool is hell kat tool which backs up ur efs folder as image....so any prblm such as diff pcode, imei etc can b restored within sec...always save ur efs folder on pc...an certain apps like root exp etc work on rooted phones..i messed alot wiv my sgs1 an sgs2 but thanks to the developers for creating this great tools....
I have a similar issue with my SGS2
I ran my phone battery until it died and when I rebooted the no-network sign came up.
Now, it show's no baseband, no imei and if I dial *#1234# it shows up as Phone: Unknown
(I think it used to say GT-I9100)
I had a backup efs img and files from way back, and restored that several times along with a factory reset and tried installing different modems both original and others.
It's looking pretty bad.
Any thoughts on what else I can try to diagnose this before I send it back?
TIA, Daniel

[Q] Bricked S5830, please help me

Hi all,
I have looked for a similar post, I found out that many people experienced something like that trying unlocking their phones, but I haven't found out any solution.
Here is my situation:
I have tried to unlock my s5830 (orange spain carrier), I have used a method which it seems to be dangerous for the phone, but of course I have found out it was dangerous after I have already tried it
Anyway after I discovered the unlock number contained in the perso.txt file in the efs folder, my phone restarted without service once and after that it went in a bootloop mode, it goes on a download mode, but there is no way to get back recovery mode or a normal boot.
I flashed the s5830 several times with many firmware, but no one worked, and the phone is still stuck in an infinite loop, in which I am not even able to see the samsung logo coming out at the very beginning.
I know many phones got bricked in this way, I wanted to know if anybody has been able to recover the phone or if anybody know any possible solution.
And if not, do you know if the warranty is covering this problem? I just got the phone a couple months ago; i have unlocked other devices before, but this is the first time I have experienced a problem so I am quite new about warranty as well. Please HELP ME
Merry Christmas guys!!!
Thanks in advance

with the cellphone off, put out ur baterry for a minute, then maintain ur finger into the volume down button and the power button tell a friend or if u can alone insert the batery while quickly pressing volume down and power button to get into download mode, and flash.
Hehehe, bootloop is horrible, you just have to get in download mode & flash with 2.3.4 firmware with Odin, just that steps and you save your SGA.
I got bootloop many times and Odin saved me.

If you can go to recovery mode than you can just wipe the data and cache. This saved me many times. Otherwise on what ever OS you may be , just create new user name after removing samsung android drivers. Login from new user name and than re install drivers again and now flash your phone from firmware which was installed on your phone before you bricked it. This helped me a few times.

It seems that you've already received a lot of help for unbricking your device. So I'll try to help out in unlocking your phone after you finished unbricking it.
This is the method I personally used on my locked Ace:

thank you very much I will follow your advice...IF I will be able to get my phone back which seems impossible =(
@dr_vishal
Thank you first of all, I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the android device driver, but it doesn't seems to be the problem, Odin ends with a "PASS" at the end, I guess there still is comunication in the between the two devices...
Hopefully it will be a Merry Christmas =)
It's not impossible. I'm relatively new here but I have noticed quite a few "bricked" threads already. Most of them (if not all) have been able to fix their device. I haven't seen a single person permanently brick their device, so I would guess that your chances of fixing it are really high. Just be patient and keep describing your situation and more experienced help will certainly arrive. I'd really like to help out but I have no idea how to fix it as I have not experienced bricking my phone yet.
Anyway, if the method for unlocking I suggested works for you kindly press the Thanks Button. Merry Christmas!

a lot of people have talked about reflashing it and all but have you managed to get into the recovery mode at all once you have reinstalled the rom with odin? if you can get to that you just need to hit factory reset, wipe cache and wipe dalvik and normaly after that it will work fine... so far ive been stuck in soft brink 3 times and each time doing the wipes from the recovery mode has worked...

I've tried to use the oneclick, but it seems it doesn't recognize the phone, since, i guess, it's made for a galaxy s.
The others are not my case, since I am able to get download mode, and all these are made to can get it back.
Anyway I found out a post in which the people were talking about the s5500, which apparentely is similiar to my device, and the owners of that model experienced a similar problem doing the same process....anyway in that post the people needed to use a Jtag, which is the only way to get it back....so I though it could be the same solution for my problem...but I don't know anybody with Jtag, so the only way is contacting the service center.
thanks anyway, when I will be back at home after Christmas I will try to find the ticket and I will probably try to get it back in warranty, since is preatty new...
@torchwolfery
I am not able to reach recovery mode, there is no way to get it back, even flashing the phone with different firmwares, all I got is download mode, and apparently that is completely pointless...since the only change in the phone behavior is that if i install a certain firmwares it doesn't even have the back-light working when it is stuck in bootloop.
Warranty is your only hope (as it was mine once and it worked).
I didn't think it was possible to brick these phones. There I have tried so much to try and brick it but I have not been able to as it still always goes into 'download' mode. The only advice I can give you is double check that you are using the correct version of Odin which is v4.38 and that you use cooper v1.0 as your OPS. If dont mind me asking, but exactly what did you do or do you remember the steps you took to brick it? What buttons are you using for 'recovery' mode.
Also please clarify if Odin is going in a loop or does the phone come on and then keeps rebooting? If it is the phone that keeps rebooting, then wiping cache and data partition should do the trick. This can be done by going into recovery mode (which I am aware you cannot get into) or if you can manage to get into the dialler quick enough before the reboot, by dialling *7267*3855# and that should format the relevant partitions (data and cahce) and bring it back to factory settings. Without further info, I cannot really tell exactly what the situation is.
The fact that you are getting 'download' mode, I dont think that it is bricked because it will still allow you to write the relevant directory/files to the relevant blocks. Either way, would be interested to know.

Is corrupted IMEI GS2 not fixable?

Ok guys! This is simple, i bought this GS2 from a friend a couple days ago. He told me the phone had no IMEI and since i have seen this before on other Galaxy S variations and have been able to fix it i thought it was a good buy. Thing is i didnt realize how hard it was going to be to fix that. He tried to unlock that phone who knows how and it completely messed up the efs folder. I have tried the 9 step Imei restore method and some other tricks with no luck. Problem with this phone is that it doesnt even have a dummie imei number. In fact, not even zeros, just nothing when i try to check for an imei number. Any suggestions for this. Or should i just look for someone to buy the lcd and dump the motherboard to the trash?? Thanks!
Without a backup of the original, working EFS folder you are probably more or less stuck. I've been in the same situation before and ended up having to get the phone replaced.
Contact a member on here called Odia via PM. He is sometimes able to recover IMEI's/EFS details when everything else has failed (for a small donation). If everything else you've tried hasn't worked, that's probably your last chance.
Yep odia said corrupt efs was no problem to fix.

Here's the only fix I know of for a galaxy s2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iY9cDkj4CCw! If it works, make sure to make multiple backups of your efs folder on sd card/pc/drop box etc!!
You can view your efs folder using the Root explorer app!!
Here's the download link for the galaxy s2 kTool fix: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.hellcat.droiddev.ktool&hl=en Good luck!
If all else fails, your only other option is here: http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-imei-efs-repair/
You can try to fix the efs partition following this guide : forum.samdroid.net/f70/repair-imei-s2-5729/
You'll probably get a generic IMEI after that, then contact the guy he will set back your original IMEI. I had exacly the same problem and it worked !
Wow guys thanks a lot for all those replies! Ill keep in touch and tell you how it goes!
Thank for your help jje, I've tried many methods but none of them seem to be working. (Done factory reset, installed CWM recovery, wiped caches, adb shell) I've a feeling that this phone needs a main board as well. He's got insurance for his phone so at this point, I think, it's not worth the hassle anymore.

[email protected], even changing almost any galaxy S lcd is not worth it when it breaks. Have you seen the prices of those lcd replacement screens? We do it for the sake of learning. Although in this case you might be right, because just like your phone this one doesnt even have a baseband showing. But still im pretty shure its a software and not hardware issue. This is about something that went really wrong while unlocking or trying to do something like that with it. Too bad i dont even know what happened with this one. No efs backup or anything
What actually happened is my friend went into this badly network covered area, lost the signal and he was back to a place again, where is a strong network coverage the phone just would not log on and stuck in flight mode.
So my s2 was on gingerbread rom and I decided to flash 4.1.2 via odin. Phone booted up and asks for sim unlock code. I learnt then that it locked the phone. I used Galaxy_S unlock https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sMSwxLDEsImNvbS5oZWxyb3ouZ2FsYXh5c3VubG9jayJd
but it didn't work so I restored the efs. Then I tried this Galaxsim http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1846451 and it says unlocked so rebooted phone but when making or receiving phone calls, it disconnects. The paid version from play I havent tried but Im guessing will be the same?
Imei still shows so Im not sure what I have done wrong.
I have efs backup from both of those apps and also a efs.autobackup in the root of internal storage date in January. Not sure how that got there as this phone had GB over a year.
Please help
Do you get any signal at all?
The paid version won't help as this could be a modem issue.

Possibly bricked phone

Hi!
I just had the weirdest experience with my sgsii
I have been using the unofficial vsync patched cm10 rom for this modelfor the last month or so.
I have been updating at least one per week but this week I decided to give my phone a break and not flash it... i am actually really busy at job.
Suddenly tonight, the phone looked like when you have a SOD... so i just pulled the battery.
Now, it does not pass from the first logo stage, just prior to start booting.
I cannot access cwm recovery either, but download mode seems to work-
Now the odd thng is that i am attempting to flash somethng to get the phone working but it gets stuck in the step "NAND Write start!".... it goes no furter than that...
I have chosen the options auto reboot and f.reset time.
a pda file, phone and csc file from the eaked jb rom.....
The system I am attempting to flash from is a windows 7 pro 64 bit.... and odin is Odin3 v1.85...
Please, tell me i didnt get a brick and there is a way tofix it... :crying:
EDIT: Desperated, i tried to flash latest jb leak again, and chose the pit file that comes with it, which re-partitions the phone...
After 20 minutes not responding, i pulld the battery out... now i cannot even enter download mode....nothing....nada....
Sounds like you bricked it, good job.

too bad never repartition unless you make your own pit file with heimdall .. if you would've wait a couple hours I just pmed you.
and for other people instead of flashing samsung's bricksquadroms you can flash CM9 resurrection edition. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1419102
Make a pit file with heimdall of your own device. Don't trust pitfile that comes with a rom.
I re-partitioned my device and i got like 3GB intern memory back.
There's probably a way to get your device alive. it isn't the mmc cap bug so. search some threads on xda about brickbugs etc of galaxy phones and you'll find people who hardbricked and unbricked their device.
Probably usb jig could get you into download mode i'm not sure though. Or else jtag. Ask some people over there they will know it
I will try to revive it with jig.... i must find the thingy though.,..... if not.. i will send it to the service but i'm not sure i'm on warranty....
Being not patient made me f*ck it up bad....
Any clue on how to recover a phone after re-partitioning.... i really don't know where to start...
EDIT: JIG does not switch it on either... why did i have to re-partition?!??!?!?!?!?!
That was a dumb move....... any more ideas?
If you cant enter recovery or download mode you have no choice but to JTAG repair or mobo replacement.
Hard brick.... on its way to service
Wish me luck..
Mobo replacement it is, this incident will at least teach you to be patient, I explained you my problem in PM, I waited for 1 week for USB jig to arrive from eBay then flashed stock ROM. I trust the f/w it came with the most.

USB JIG didn't work at all..... I have one and it was not able to boot the phone ....
Isn't this kind of brick fixable with Jtag?

Ok, before I repartitioned, making the problem worse, I was experiencing some kind of R/W problem..... there was something odd with the nand because I was able to boot in download mode, but not in recovery (CWM) mode....
Then, when I plugged the phone to the computer, Odin was able to recognize the phone.
I followed some thread around XDA to flash 4.1.2 leak from sammy and when I hit the "Start" button in Odin, it would not pass from the first stages, revealing that R/W or I/O problem.... the internal nand was, somehow broken.... it didn't read or write properly.... so, even If i could find a workaround, I would have lost some internal storage (some posts talk about around 3 Gb or something similar as lost space in these cases).... that is IF i had been able to fix it..... but then, that's what warranty is for..... so I gave it a last (dumb) try..... including the pit file, which attempted a format, which ended messing (i would say the f. word) everything up.
The good side is that unable to even boot, at least i lost the blue loading bar the vsync patched cm10 mod has in the first bootup screen.... which could have revealed to sammy that I was tempering with unofficial roms....
Lesson learned: Be patient people: But also, don't think this could not happen to you: The phone was perfectly working the last time I saw it... and I even was making some phone calls and browsing the internet.... I mean... it gave no prior symptoms or warnings... I t just died..... I guess I have to be glad I'm not one of those people whose phone gets caught up on fire on their pockets for malfunctioning.....
Now waiting for it to come back revived from samsung..... I have hope
hope it will be able to recover
Great: After losing the phone and past almost three months, samsung says the phone has been manipulated and the warranty is voided....
I wasn't able to flash back an original firmware prior to sending it to the tech service.....
What do you recommend me to do?
I guess paying for the repair would be quite expensive....

Well what is it you expect us to say, some secret magic word that will fix it for free?
The choice is pay for it to be fixed or dont.
So no magic word or secret passphrase so they will upgrade my device to a SGSIV for free?
Damn.....
I'm asking for advice, since I'm convinced the brick was not caused by flashing anything.....
Does anyone have any experience with this in the past to know more or less how expensive bill could I be facing for the repair?

Dude, it WAS caused by flashing something.
Initially your device wasn't "bricked" and was likely a kernel issue and possibly a dirty usb data connection.
The point when it was bricked was when you tried flashing the pit file, had bad connection and you then pulling battery. This f**ked your nand chip up and only way to fix it is to replace motherboard.
You will need to either purchase a mobo replacement and replace it yourself or pay somebody to purchase/replace it for you. Probably looking at around £100.
When bricks happen, you really need to BRICK it before claiming warranty.
I've got a couple of guys here that own a PhD in bricking.
Brick is the new flash.

Jig wasn't working
Flashing anyting.. even just a recovery wasn't working
FLashing official didnt work
Flashing CM didnt work either
Tested different cables and different ports
It was f*cked up already... anyway: 4 samsung devices owned: 3 gave problems of hardware..... that cannot be a coincidence...
Repartitioning erased my tracks, if anything... because the 3 key combo for recovery was working until then..... but either way they managed to access the memory somehow, I guess.....

I9100G no imei no baseband

Ok long story short. I have a i9100g that came to me only displaying 3 icons (phone ! computer). Using the method I found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1619571&page=21 I managed to bring it back to life but no imei.
I managed to write so far a stock 4.0.4, 2.3.6 and 2.3.4 trying to repair the imei problem. I have acces to a good efs folder of a i9100g but even after I replace it on the phone the imei is still unavailable.
I tried using the gsII_repair but it tells me its done but it isnt.
I tried using Efs pro software. With the phone's initial efs files it gave me an error at nv recovery but with the good ones I have the software says everything is ok.
My question is. Should I give up on trying to find a software based repair and try for hardware ?
Or if anyone has any more ideeas that might help I would be glad to try em all.
I must add I have no ideea how the phone got like that before it came to me nor do I have any clue where the phone is from.
*edit*
I am terribly sorry for posting in the wrong place. I didnt find a q&a for i9100g
