is there way to use the dimmed brightness all the time? - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

I notice some roms when booting have a low brightness state thats lower than brightness 0, also when the phone is about to turn its screen off it also dims first. Also dims when left idle when charger plugged in.
Whilst dimmed I can see whats on the screen fine so I would like my phone to stay dimmed whilst using it to save battery, any idea how this can be done?

This might help .

[Q] No Auto-Brightness Setting in 2.1?!

I just installed Android 2.1 and rooted it. In the brightness setting there is no longer a selection to choose the Auto-brightness setting, just a slider for low and high brightness.
Also I noticed the Power Widget that has the brightness control switch lets you switch between low, auto, and high, but while in Auto (the dimmer setting while the button is ON), the sensitivity is very poor and will only brighten the display by about 10% while moving from a very dark environment to a very bright environment.
Yup, i agree. This sucks. Although i had forgoten how nice everything looks with the brightness turned up. All the same id like to have it back.

cant expect everything in 2.1 to be perfect. Yes it has taken them a while but i wouldnt expect it to be without any flaws!
At least we got it finally. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT

I thought this today too but the Auto Brighten IS there and still working, just a bit differently.
Initially you choose the 3 levels of brightness on the quick select from the 5 widget icons. This is the brightest it will go, but if you go from a dark or light room it DOES indeed still adjust.
I noticed this after a bit today just standing in the kitchen watching the movers do their thing at my old place. The sun was ducking in and out of the clouds and the auto function was working fine. I tried it in all 3 modes, the only one it doesn't do anything in is the least bright mode...the one I noticed it most is the middle bright mode.
So YES, it is indeed working, just differently.
The auto Brightness sucked in 1.6 anyway. It was never that good for me. I use a brightness widget to adjust it.
I much prefer the way it works now. Seems to be a lot more user friendly tbh
have you tried the setting in spare parts (from the market)?
I've not tried it myself, but I know the auto setting is there.
Auto birghtness
Hmm. I have the 2.1 update and I have set the brightness to the low setting in the power widget. The brightness still adjusts automatically, and I don't want it to. I want it to stay at a low level all the time to save my battery. How?!

x10 screen brightens and dims randomly

for a while now my screen on the x10 goes brighter and darker while browsing , not by a lot but its noticable and kind of annoying . Im curious if anyone else has this on their phone , i got nothing installed to control brightness its just stock 2.1 os. And its not because of battery since it does it when plugged in.
It's cos of the auto brightness adjustment function. =D
If you need to access it/ turn it off you have to do it through the 'Power Control' Widget
Thanx for the replies ill check out the power control widget. Im just wondering if the random change from dim to bright waste more battery ?

There is a light sensor on the front of the phone that turns the brightness up if there is a lot of light in the room, if there isn't a lot of light in the room the brightness decreases. As mentioned above you can control this auto-brightness function from the Power Control widget.
I wouldn't say it has any noticeable effect on your battery life, unless you always are in very bright environments that would make the sensor turn the display brightness all the way up.

How to increase screen brightness at 10% battery

When my battery level reaches 10% the screen brightness is reduced to virtually nothing, I can barely see the screen in sunlight. Playing around in the display or power options doesn't change the brightness level. How to I disable this function so that I can manage the brightness myself? Thanks!

Increase the brightness in battery saving mode. Your battery saving mode is set to start at 10 % battery and probably reduces your brightness close to 0. Either increase the brightness or just shut down battery saving mode completely and use the brightness settings you want.
Thanks, but the thing is that power saving mode was not enabled (never used it) before I reached <10% battery. I enabled it then thinking it was the cause of the low screen brightness, but even with it and setting the power saving brightness to 30% the screen still stayed very dark.
Any idea what else it could be. I've only once had it at <10% but if it happens again I'd like to be able to use the phone according to my settings.

[Q] Reduce screen brightness?

Hey everyone-
I'm looking for a way to reduce my backlight brightness further than the normal levels. I use my Evo as a night clock, but the minimum brightness still beacons a bit in a dark room. I believe this is possible, but I'm not sure what I'm missing. I tried out an app called RootDim from the market. It lets you move the slider from 0 - 255. The screen gets darker as you slide it backwards, but it stops dimming when you hit 30. Anything below that does nothing. I thought it might be a kernel issue, so I flashed the nolights kernel to test, but that didn't change anything.
I am also aware of screen filter, but that doesn't actually dim the backlight. Anyone out there no of a way to drop the minimum backlight level below 30?
EDIT: I should also mention that I'm using Android Revolution as my ROM. Thanks.
Been looking for the same thing as well. I was hoping RootDim would help , but I got the same results.
Have you tried DOCK mode ? It's a built in APP on HTC EVO 3D.
Do a Search for DOCK and try it. It runs in Lanscape mode and it
switches to a night mode after a few minutes or you can switch
manually via the lower right lower corner.

I tried that already. And I'm using Dock Mode. The problem is that even at minimum brightness, black color still lights up the room a bit. Considering that it stops dimming at < 30, I'm assuming there must be some way to get levels between 0 and 30 as well. I guess it stops at 30 as a safety net, to keep you from dimming it so much that you can't see the screen.
Bumping this. I feel like cyanogen let me go darker but I'm back on sense and am looking for a solution.
I use the Android Assistant app, free at Google Play. It will let me take the brightness down to 11. Not sure if this would be low enough for you. The control is in Tools, Save Battery.
Any update on this? Whenever I'm in a dark room my lowest brightness still seems too bright. Is there any way to get it darker?

[Q] Is my display losing brightness? Or is it a bad app?

So,
Today I was messing around with GO Launcher EX and GO Locker, and I didn't like the performance, at all...so I did a search and found an app called spare parts that was supposed to help the animation speed, after a while of messing around, I noticed that my display wasn't nearly as bright as it was an hour ago. I checked and made sure that the display brightness setting was set to 100%, and that auto-adjust screen power was turned off, and the display was still about half as bright as when I started today.
How can I test if I messed something up? Or is this normal for a AMOLED display? Is there an app I can download that will force the brightness to go to 100%, to see if some app is messing with it? What the heck is going on.
Emmmmmooooo rrraaagggeee!!!
So I got a app that controls brightness , and in fact confirmed that the default controls were only boosting brightness to around 80 percent. What can affect the settings like this? Using automatic brightness, or changing the brightness through anything but this app leaves the screen dimmer than it normally is. I can't even use the touchwiz settings widget.
Interesting.
So, to further report on this odd behavior,
After further investigation, the brightness with auto-brightness seemingly drops light output further than the "0" setting in my brightness app, and further than the slider allows manually adjusting via the settings>display panel. Odd.
So,
I disabled all auto-brightness via the settings in the TouchWhiz apps (read: the browser and the video/audio player), and was just controlling brightness via the app I installed.
Later today, i turned on auto-brightness again via the Power Saving widget, and the issue where the screen dims farther than any manual settings allowed was gone. Again, i only have an issue with max brightness now-- using both the system settings panel to adjust brightness as well as using auto-brightness via both the power saving widget as well as the system settings panel.
So, in summary: the max brightness issue remains, and i can only set it to about 80% without using the brightness app i installed (the app allows me to set it to 100%....where as in the system settings, the slider goes to 100%, and stays at 100%, but the screen looks like its at about 80%. Using the brightness app i installed allows me to boost it back to 100%, but as soon as i change the brightness in the system settings app, or the power saving widget, it maxes out at 80. The slider moves all the way to 100%, but i'm only getting 80% brightness).
Note:
I have no apps installed that affect brightness...0. None of my apps have anything remotely having to do with the display, audio, or it's settings.
Maybe you can help me?
I turned off the auto brightness in the system settings/display/brightness but it seems that the screen starts to dim (sometimes). I hate this...I have to touch the screen to retain brightness. I don't want auto dimming...I want the level I set (which is about half way on the slider).
Where can I find a master override?

Adjust screen timeout. This happens when your screen is going to automatically turn off

Thanks... I'll check it out.
Also in display settings uncheck "auto adjust screen power"
Was there ever a solution to this? I am now starting to get this issue of screen will not respond to 100% brightness...and the option to change display brightness is greyed out in settings. It seems to be a problem with 'power savings' which I would like to completely remove from my phone as even when I turn it off, it is keeping me from adjusting my screen brightness when below 20% battery...and with my 5400 mah battery 20% is a full 8 hour day left...really irritating...only way to solve is to charge above 20%...or go enable power savings, then disable it again...but problem returns every time the screen goes off.
