[Q] international S3 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have T-Mobile and I know for a fact that I'm getting an s3 I just don't know which will have a bigger dev population. Also I would like to keep my 4g speeds. Is the international version compatible with T-Mobile 4g? I don't always have access to a WiFi connection. Please and thank you for your help. And my apologies if I didn't search thoroughly enough.

The I9300, the international variant, does not support the AWS frequencies that T-Mobile uses, so you won't have high speed data.

Okay so what speeds would I be seeing? And is the international development better than stateside ?

With the International S3 you will at most be getting 2g/Edge Speeds on Tmo. Which is unacceptable if you're buying a phone in this day an age. Development will always be better with the International versions of a phone, thats just how it is...If samsung releases the kernel source to its US versions then that would help development tremendously, but I believe that would fall more on Qualcomm as the US S3's are using the S4 chipset....That said as long as the boot loader is unlocked and a way to root and install CWM exists, there will be some development...but don't expect it to be as robust as the International version.

T mobile S2 is different from the international version. There is a separate forum for it on xda.

The phone is obviously sim-locked, no need to redirect him to another forum.

Yes I understand that, but his problem is that it's T mobile but locked to at&t which is weird. Maybe someone in the correct forum knows about it. I doubt people here have heard of such a thing.

So should i keep looking on this forum or try the other?

First thing you need to do is confirm model number. Look on the label under battery. Is it GT-I9100? Could be that it's a European T-Mobile Galaxy SII that somehow got sim-locked to AT&T.
T-Mobile Europe is different than T-Mobile USA, and uses different frequencies.
EDIT: FYI, GT-I9100 will work on both T-Mobile USA and AT&T, but will only get Edge data speeds on T-Mobile USA. It only gets 3G/H/H+ on AT&T's network, or other network that uses the same frequencies as AT&T. T-Mobile USA has their own bastardized version of the Galaxy SII, which is the SGH-T989.
In addition to that, AT&T has their own branded version of the Galaxy SII, which is the SGH-I777, and a bastardized version that is LTE enabled called the Skyrocket, which is the SGH-I727.
And this doesn't even mention all the other models for other North American carriers, or any of the Asian variants.
All really confusing, huh? Clear as mud?

Can the international SGS3 be used on t mobile?

Reason is, t mobile won't be getting the quad core version. I have two new HTC one s's and I'm thinking of trading them both for an international gs3. Or, I'm going to sell them both. I have an offer from a salesman to buy the international gs3 for $700 even. What do you guys think I should do?

I believe it's like the One X. Yes, it will work but you'll be limited to 3G speeds (also limited to 1GB ram instead of 2GB in the US version).
The RAM thing i think makes it worth it to just go with the US version. The S4 handles vet nicely, and the majority of apps don't bother to take advantage of quad core anyway, so to me the US for once gets the better end of the stick with regard to the GS3.

That is incorrect. For a phone to be able to utilize T-Mobile 3G/4G, it must support the both 1700 and 2100 frequencies. While the international S3 does support the 2100 band, it doesn't support the 1700 band. That is the entire reason Samsung is making a specific T-Mobile S3.
The international S3 will work with T-Mobile, but only at 2G speeds.

It will be 2G only, for now. Once T-Mobile has 1900 3G up and running it will be 3G again, which should be done for all major markets by the end of the year.
On another not. I've seen the TMOUS SGSIII in action and trust me, you don't need the quad core. 2GB of RAM with dual core is WAY better than 1GB of RAM with quad core.
EDIT: One more thing, the EU version is limited to 21Mbps while the TMOUS will be 42Mbps, twice the data rate.
Yes I agree if I had my choice I would get tha quad 4 with 2 gigs ram but since it dosnt come that way more ram is more noticeable and quad core is nice but really what are you doing with it your running linux.

Yea, I figured trading two for one might be a little crazy. It sucks that I got this phone weeks before the gs3 hits shelves. I guess we shall see how awesome the gs3 is.

Well, it happen. I sold my HTC one s and now I wait for the SGS3 in three days.

Carrier difference in S3

I currently have the Galaxy II on Sprint. Looking to get the Galaxy III and also possibly changing services. I know Samsung is going for a much more 'unified' release here, so hopefully accessories will be more abundant in the future. But I was wondering, if you could choose out of Sprint, AT&T, or Verizon not taking into account the cell coverage ( speed reasons are fine ( ie. differences in 4G ) ) which would you go for and why?
Is dev any faster on any of the services AT&T Vs Sprint for example, or GSM Vs CDMA? Do you really think the speeds are better on one carrier Vs. another?
Thanks, don't want to make a wrong choice here, and really want to get the device with the best support of devs and also the most 'standard' hardware as far as form factor for cases, docks, or whatever else comes down the road. I hate that SII cases are all different for all carriers.
Thanks for any info you can lend, hopefully I'll be picking up an SIII tomorrow
Verizon 4G LTE seems to be the fastest speed, but the bootloader on the VSGS3 is locked so that's kind of a big problem.
Thanks.. Yea locked bootloader is a bummer. I think I'm leaning towards AT&T right now. So is the hardware the same on the 3 carriers, like dock on attention works with sprint?
If you wait sprint be blazing fast after network upgrade

again with the smart answers.....
do you guys know how to read????????
i thought you guys have already the s3 and know the answer....
i CHECKED the internet and it doesn't say anything about 4G international, but then again if i asked your opinion about int. vs north america and you tell me to google....
thanks for the smart reply...
No, the international version (GT-I9300) does not support 4G, that's exactly why North America has its own versions (there are also some North American versions without 4G too, if I am correct).
The N.A. versions have 2 GB of RAM and a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor (Qualcomm Snapdragon S4), while the international version have 1 GB of RAM and a 1.4 GHZ quad-core processor (Samsung Exynos 4 Quad). In addition, the maximum up and down speeds on mobile networks are obviously quite a bit higher for 4G LTE than international, but if you, like I, mostly use wifi networks, international should be fine to (and I can say from my own experience that the mobile network speeds on the international version ain't that bad either).
You will have to make up your mind yourself, though, as I think in the end, it just comes down to personal preference. I have the international version myself, though I am perfectly fine with it and I wouldn't really exchange it for a 4G model even if I could.

Also if you aren't on ATT the international one isn't worth buying anyways.

Only question for me is do i want a quad or a dual?
The 2GB of ram is nice but negligible, very little will benefit from it, at the moment anyway.
The quad core system on my i9300 is a monster, i would hate to lose two of the cores.
Plus the development for the i9300 is top notch, which for me sell's itself.
I had a bad time with the evo 3D, the uk didn't like it very much and this was reflected in development, I chose it over the sensation XE as it had an extra 256MB of ram, oohhhh big mistake lol, the sensation wasn't as quick on paper but it was optimized due to better development and for that reason i was left wanting, huge regret.
Plus the 3D didn't help
The point i'm making is, don't go for a phone just because it's got a bit more ram, especially when what's already on offer (1GB) is more than enough.
The data side of it i wouldn't know as i'm in the UK, afaik it's pretty good here.
5mb down 1.5mb up, not too shabby

I can't see carrier logos in the XDA app so I said it anyways even so, in Canada you'll only get 2G on WIND and I believe Mobilicity but I could be wrong about the latter.

International version of the SGS III (I9300) on US T-Mobile

I would highly appreciated if any one can help me with this, I have an HTC Amaze 4G on US T-mobile, and I would like to get the samsung galaxy s3 but the international version the (I9300) with the quad core. My question is would I be able to use it on t-mobile network with no issues especially on there 4G speed?

No, it wont work with Tmobiles HSPA, I think Tmo is changing their HSPA to 1900 next year so that would of been a different story, but for the moment its just not worth it.
Thank you very much....that's very disappointing....
