[Q]/[Problem] - P7500 will not wifi/blutooth tether with CM9 - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Everyone.
After intalling CM9 on my Motorola Defy, and my wifes Galaxy Nexus (dont ask) i decided to do the same thing on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 (3G-version). I followed this method to root my device, except i did install CWR 5.5.0.4 instead of the one that was in the zip.
Posts there claimed it would be unproblematic that the root-file were for the wifi-version only. (This post for instance)
Prior to that did i "Factory reset" in CWR, and I installed the cm-9-20120611-NIGHTLY-p4.zip from this post, as well as Gapps.
Everything went as smooth as expected, and i were a happy camper.
The problem did arise when i wanted to use my tab as a wifi hotspot, as i use it in my work-car, and i get internet access on my work laptop from the tab. The laptop seem to connect fine with the tab, however, it dont seem to obtain an IP-address. (Socalled "limited internet access" in windows7), and a "cmd->ipconfig" show only the internal windows IP, 169-something-something-something.
I did then try to use the blutooth tethering, but to no avail.
My MotoDefy (with quarx CM9 build) could neither connect to the tab', but it _have_ done that on a daily basis with stock ROM. (Only 200mb free data traffic on the phone, but unlimited on the tab)
So ... Where do i go from here. I've tried to search both on google, as well as on the search-function on this forum, but neither did give me any good results.
Did i use a wrong Rooting-tool/script/hack?
New Kernel?
Downgrade to an older Nightly?
Use some other CM9 KANG ?
I _could_ put the simcard in the PC, and use the PC as the tethering device, but the PC's connection seems abit unstable, and i need to reboot the PC from time to time. Plus, i work as a telecom technition (install fibercable to homes and buisnisses), and the tab is way easier to carry inside to the custumer if i need to access some of our websitebased systems. (View status on the modem, the port its connected to, signal/noise ratioes, change modem mac address in our systems if the modem needs to be changed, etc)

From what I've read, ics removes free tethering which means you have to purchase a tethering package from your carrier. I've had this problem myself, and reverted back to gingerbread from pics and have been able to free tether again.

Hi!
I have the same problem with same build.
I have been using AOKP before without this problem. I'll see if todays build is fixing this, otherwise I'm going back to AOKP...

Now working with todays build!

The CM9 build of today? Then perhaps i should reinstall that again, as i reverted to some stock-with-benefits build i found... But i REALLY like the CM9 feel, the "keyboard" is just WAY more awsome then the one in the 3.2 versions...

installing the one dated 13th june did solve the problem, and i can now 3G->wifi tether with CM9

Yes, and smooth!!

[Q] Installing Web2Go and Wifi-Calling on P509 with custom ROM?

I have a P509 with no data-plan (pay as you go). I often use wifi-calling though (when signal is weak/non-existant) as well as web2go when I don't have wifi access and need to get on the net.
I tried a couple of the custom ROMs, and I really like devoid, but I was unable to get these apps reinstalled. I tried using Titanium Backup to restore the apps, but restoring web2go hangs titanium backup, and restoring wifi-calling works, but wifi-calling generates an error when it tries to start. For now I'm back on the stock rom with a franco kernel, which seems to be working fine, but I'd love to go to a custom kernel.
For anyone interested, the WebToGo app seems to be just a wrapper to bring you to http://home.web2go.com, so it is useless. It isn't included as an apk, so if you want to use it on a custom ROM, you need to deodex WebtogoHome.odex then recompile to apk
Wifi Calling is actually system/Kineto.apk
It also requires:
lib/libganril.so
lib/libkineto.so
lib/librilswitch.so
I'm not aware of a way to build an apk that installs extra files in .lib (there may be a way, I'm new here), so the only way I know to install is either using a custom zip, or to build a custom ROM with these. I did the latter.
I forgot this part:
in build.prop (I put it near the end)
Code:
rild.libpath=/system/lib/librilswitch.so
rilswitch.vendorlibpath=/system/lib/libril-qc-1.so
rilswitch.ganlibpath=/system/lib/libganril.so
I'm able to run devoid.franco with Wifi Calling using these settings and the above listed files on my P509
If you have T-Mobile as a provider, you can use wifi to send/receive calls with your normal phone-number.
The software is called 'Wifi Calling' and only works with T-Mobile. It comes stock on the Optimus-T/P509, but takes several tweaks to get it working properly on a P500 based ROM as I learned.
That is great news!
Are you able to go to http://home.web2go.com in your browser and add a day data pass? I disconected from wifi and allowed data but could not get to the website.
yep it seems to work for me.
I was much more interested in the Wifi-Calling though, as my cell reception is terrible at home.
I'm going to try to make a zip that will update the rom properly. I don't yet know how to alter the build.prop file from a zip, but assuming I can figure that out, I'll post it.
Here is a zip that should apply to any p500 2.2 based rom to get Wifi Calling (with T-Mobile) working. I've only tested it via clockwork mod. And I've only verified it using T-Moble in the US.
One note. I used a pretty dirty method to update the build.prop file, so don't install the zip more than once on any given rom. Doing so would probably work fine, but will leave extra junk in your build.prop file
Edit: I don't want to maintain multiple copies, should I need to update the code in the future. Get it from here:

That would be a great application. I know many T-mobile customers decide to just use the stock ROM so they can have wifi calling.
Figured out my problem accessing web2go. I thought it was a general problem because I had the same symptom in both phones. One phone had a sim that had never been used. The other phone somehow lost its APN settings. Of course, the bad sim card was in the phone with the correct APN and the good sim was in a phone with no APN entries. Stupid!
well done on the wifi calling zip!
i'm going to give it a shot tonight and post the results.
btw do you have any trouble with incoming MMS using custom ROMS? Mine shrink unless i'm using CM7.
You started off asking a question about wifi calling. You now have a app that solves the problem.
I think this section is no longer appropriate. This thread should be in the "Optimus One, P500 Android Development" section. When you post there your solution will get the attention it deserves!!
PS Don't forget to modify the thread title.
PPS Works Great!!!
I don't have enough posts to reply to your thread in the Development section, but just wanted to say thanks!
In the UK, this Wi-fi calling service is offered by the Orange network but I was unable to use it as my phone was not running the Orange ROM. I was able to adapt your zip, replacing the app and lib files with ones extracted from an Orange ROM - and it works perfectly.
What is the difference between this and say, Skype or Fring, or any of the other VoIP apps on the Market?

It uses your own phone-number, and you can call to other real phones with no additional charge. Other than that there isn't much difference.

Humpf... would not the protocol be the huge difference here? The proprietary Skype blackbox pretty much sucks.

RE: ?
509: Running with the new baseband, and OXYGEN.
Any progress on this? Since reading this, I'm trying to figure out a way to dissect an apk and allow for device specific compliance.
I have a few stock and aftermarket 'KINETO apks... What type of code would I need to learn for making this happen?
Also, when opening some of the files, they turn out to be characters spaced out several inches apart. I'm interested in learning about this.
I've been getting to know Eclipse and SDK on Ubuntu; however, some of these files cannot be edited with standard 'gedit' or notepad..
ALSO - When preparing to edit build.prop.kineto, the file opens with the code mentioned here. But that's all; nothing else.
Just these 3 lines of code:
rild.libpath=/system/lib/librilswitch.so
rilswitch.vendorlibpath=/system/lib/libril-qc-1.so
rilswitch.ganlibpath=/system/lib/libganril.so
Please Advise.

[Q] WiFi Tethering Settings Revert

In all the 2.3.5 ROMs I have tried, the built in WiFi tethering fails to save any settings. If you change the SSID from AndroidAP to anything else, once you come back to the settings page it will revert back to AndroidAP always. Does anyone else have this issue with their latest ROM?
Cheers.

If your phone is rooted, you can use apps like Barnacle Wifi Tether.
Works perfect for me. It remembers all settings. App also displays downloaded/uploaded data volume real time.

Thank you for your response! I gave it a try but unfortunately it just doesn't want to share correctly. I tried a few WiFi tethering apps but they all seem to fail and it's not because I don't have root access, I think it is because they are not 2.3.5 compatible yet. By the way, do any of them support WPA as opposed to WEP?

afaik, barnacle supports only WEP encryption....
Don't know about other similar apps (like android wifi tether, easy tether, pdanet, etc)
gmatharu12,
It seems the bug is rather a Google one than Samsung. Many Nexus users have experienced the same when getting the 2.3.6 update. Then Google pushed out another update to fix it along with a bunch of others.
Back to our cases with 2.3.5, I also notice the DUN APN type once was shown up in 2.3.4 has gone. Not sure if it has a corelation or not.
Yeah i have the same problem...be good when some one finds a fix...wish i could but i am no way near the level of the devs here (respect)
I confirm that the problem exists on 2.3.4 and 2.3.5, KI4 / KJ1 (stock and custom roms)...

Does someone know where the config is stored? Perhaps I could try to manually change settings...
Folks,
This is strange because some reports in the Google support forum, it has been fixed OTA for the vanilla build for Nexus S.

Azurstorm,
Of course, we are posting here for our Samsung GALAXY S II GT-I9100. But my point is that Nexus S is a "close relative", and many things should be similar.
The issue is already resolved. Right after you flash a ROM, change the wifi tethering setting first BEFORE you enable wifi. If you enable WIFI first, then yes, the tethering setting cannot be saved. I've tried this several times and it certainly solved my problem.
If you change the wifi tethering setting first, THEN you enable wifi. After that the settings can be saved.

Thanks for your advice, I found only one combination possible:
1) Deactivate all wifi function.
2) Reboot
3) Change tethering settings
4) Activate wifi or tethering
But it's a little excessive to change one setting
dikai_yang / Azurstorm,
*Update: Thank you! It seems the key to success is disable WiFi fisrt and reboot. It is kind of hassle but consider once it is set, most of us would not change it too often.
same problem here :s
Actually, the sure fire way to fix this issue, is to correct the permissions on the /data/misc/wifi folder. (you must have root)
In a shell window or terminal emulator, type:
chmod 770 /data/misc/wifi
This should fix you right up. No reboot necessary.
Samsung screwed up with the Kernel in 2.3.5 firmware, you just need to use another Kernel, something like Speedmod or Siyah fixes it.

Right, but if for some reason you don't want to flash a different kernel, you can just adjust the permissions of the /data/misc/wifi folder, provided you have root.

Thank you.

Wifi error on Sony style v1.1... help.

Hi
I installed this great rom but cannot enable wifi. After few seconds of "enabling" it stops and says "error".
Someone suggested cleaning memory - not helped
Tried this :

Nothing changed.
Please help, i dont want to revert to stock ****ty firmware.
You could think of moving to something newer, like ArcMini Nxt, which will also run beautifully on the stock kernel.

Wifi on custom ROMs
Hi
I'm at holidays, so I have spare time and i have a backup mobile, so, at last, I've decided migrating my stock to a newer ROM. I just wanted to be able to use multitouch for zooming images/maps/webs, whilst not loosing any functionality. If I can also use a VPN to connect to work via RDP, ald view streaming flash sites... well, that will be a plus. As my mobile version is pretty new i know I can NOT unlock bootloader, so i can't also change my kernel. No problem... there are some ROMs that will bring me my basic needs. I require Androd 2.2 or newer... can't use ICS ROMs (need to change kernel/bootloader, unadvised for my mimmi). Okay, let's see the alternatives:
I've cheked Xperian Blaze v2, SE_Style v1.1, MiniCM7Pro v21, and Andread 2.3.5 Pro final v3
I've had some problems with one and others, but they all had the same issue: Wifi connection was not working. I've tried to ask in the development threads, but i couldn't (not enough messages), so I had to investigate on my own. Not an android developer, just user.
The last ROM I've checked is the Andread. The problem with others was "error" on trying to turn WIFI on, or turning it on but failing on getting IP, disabling the wifi and enabling it again for restarting process. The problem with Andread was slightly different: it made it all fine (establish connection, authentication, get an IP...), but when you want to use network it doesn't work. Seems to be missing routes or something.
I must say I love these ROMs, all of them. Launcher is not a problem, i always install Nemus (love its dock, folders, and ability to resize widgets), although ARC's one is good enough (way better than mimmi's one, despite being sooo similar)
Ok, ok, my solution: I've made a backup of original system before tests, didn't I? ok, lets extract it and see... I've found than /system/lib/Modules/tiwlan_drv.ko was less than 1Mb in my Andread, but 8.7Mb in my original files' backup. Hummm now it isn't working... What would happen if I overwrite it with older one? Lets try it... copy original one (the one in my backup) to SDCard, then use RootExplorer for mounting /system R/W, copy and overwrite Andread's tiwlan.ko, change it's permissions to match original ones (644), and reboot.
Now I have wifi, and my andread is working fine. I still have to recalibrate battery and replace the DroidSansFallback.TTF with the MIUI's one (so I can read my father-in-law chinese messages), but happy enough.
Not sure if it can work with the other ROMs I've cheked before, or with any other mobile. As far as I've seen in this forum, you always talk about the 2.1.1.A.0.6 SE firmware or the newest 2.1.1.C.0.1. I had the 2.1.1.B.0.1 (yes, it's a B). Not sure if it's due I'm in Spain, or my mobile was bought to Yoigo and not Sony... I always assumed the differences will be so minimal it doesn't mind ^_^
I wish this could help someone.

[NEW] NT CM10 support thread

Now that CM10 has been released for the NT I have started up a proper support thread. Pleas keep it as back reports and help.
Please use this thread to post feedback and to ask questions. The Dev thread is for exactly that, development and not support! Please keep the development thread clear of support and feedback posts.
Live support may be available on irc.freenode.net irc channel #nook-tablet, if any of us are around we'll be happy to help but don't bug people if they are busy please. A web version of irc is available here http://webchat.freenode.net?channels=nook-tablet-chat
When posting a bug or issue please use the following format
----------Which install are you using (Internal or SD):
----------What version is your CM10 download that you are using (should be alpha final now):
----------Do you have any mods on your NT (updates or system modifications)
----------If yes to above what have you installed
----------Where is this bug (main system or which application):
----------Can this bug be easily replicated:
----------If yes to above how can we replicate it to check:
----------Description of the bug
----------Any other information we may find useful
(thank CelticWebSolutions for the text)
I would like to run CM10 from an sdcatd. I get lost following the directions iamafanof has on his blog. Does anyone have something clearer?
I just want to boot 10 from sd ,like CM 7 was.
Thanks.
Bill
Just use the same directions used in succulent's (iamafanof) directions on how to boot CM7/CM9 from sdcard. The only thing different is to use his CM10 boot from sdcard zip.
CM10 Install Assist?
UPDATED NEAR END - I am with you miniblue... I have been running an SD version of CM7 for sometime now and absolutely love it. However, would like to upgrade to CM10 and tried using imafanof's SD boot install but somehow I messed it up so now I am running some sort of hybrid of the Nook (still has original apps installed) and CM10. So now I have the nice polished look with none of the functionality.
If someone can help me with some tips as to how to flash and start fresh with a fresh install of CM10 I would be very grateful. Now I have a nook that boots up with cyanboot bootloader but loads a hybrid of CM10 and the nook truncated Android. Now I have the Nook purchased apps (don't care to have) and no ability to do much with the Jelly Bean other than having the nice polished look.
According to the Nook, I am running Android version 4.1.1, Kernel version 3.0.31+ ([email protected] #1), Cyanmod version 10-20120903-UNOFFICIAL-acclaim. Also - My Nook seems to now think it is a 8GB nook instead of the 16GB Nook that it really is. I have the new look but all the B&N apps and no functionality beyond that to speak of. Cannot change themes, etc.
So, I made a good bootable SD card to load emmc CM10. Installed it but still have the weird hybrid version of the Nook software on it. Do I need to format the emmc or something first? I followed the instructions as indicated by chrmhoffmann on this page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1773362 - where it says this method will overwrite everything. What am I missing?
update: so I was able to use a CWM bootable SD and formatted emmc, user data, etc. Looks like CM10 is running exclusively. Trouble is, as can be expected, it is unstable and so it goes to black screen a lot, particularly when surfing/on wifi. May have to try CM9 for awhile until 10 gets to a bit better performance.

Yes. It works fine. As everyone is aware, there are some Black Screen Of Death (BSOD) issues and a few random reboots but not to the point of a MAJOR issue.
I have posted my simple guide to installing the SGT7 (Meghd00t) ROM on my website here: http://raywaldo.com/2012/09/root-for-nook-tablet-1-4-3/ - includes video and my process worked to root & install on a stock Nook Tablet (8GB) running B&N v.1.4.3.
Thanks - - and USB disk issues.

This is awesome. I'd been thinking about doing a full restore - re-root - install w/ CM10, and it's nice to have a method to follow.
BTW - Ray, (or anybody) have you heard of anyone having problems getting their PCs to recognize their Nooks as USB drives on CM10? It's seems like after a time my PC first stops recognizing the external SD (shows a mounted drive icon but shows no information or says 'please insert an SD card") . . . then eventually stops recognizing the internal "My Nook" drive as well. At one point I did a complete USB driver uninstall-reinstall using USBdeview, and it fixed the problem but only for a day. And it did not work the second time.
I know this is NT related because it happens on any PC I use. The problem is not present when using CM7.
Ideas?
I love sgt7! Can you thank too many times on xda?
I am new here though and I have a few questions. Has anyone been able to reproduce the sleep of death bug ? Or is it completely random? I have done some minimal Linux and android development and I would love to help with improving jelly on nt. I actually have two nook tab 16s. One is running sgt7 9.13 the other 9.14. I know I haven't searched as much as I could have just yet but I wanted to see if anyone would recommend some things I could do for the devs. Can we get a trace from adb when the bug occurs or do we lose the connection immediately before? CM10 USB Drive
timpilcher said:
Ideas?

Not sure which CM10 you have. I am running the SGT7/Meghd00t and it works fine for me.
One thing that you probably already know.. When you connect, Windows will beep but may not display the file manager window.
If you have USB Debugging enabled, then you have to switch to mass storage mode. In the notifications area, you will have a little USB symbol. Click on it and follow the prompts to enable the Mass Storage mode.
Another note. I have Win7/64bit so it may be relative to that. But sometimes SDCard readers, etc have trouble with my USB 3.0 ports and I have to use them on the 2.0 port instead.
Thanks Ray!
Ray, just wanted to give you props for your tutorials. They are very thorough and explain things in great detail for those who are new but want to benefit from the greatness of ROMs and rooting.

That is odd. Mine hooks up and works great via USB. I am running CM10 SGT7.

I have been using cm10 for a while and LOVE it. However, the battery life is so terrible that it's unusable at the moment. I want to install cm7 instead until the battery life improves for this rom, but when trying to install it, it doesn't actually work (cm10 still boots up). Is there a specific process I need to follow to achieve this? Thanks.

Provide more details. Does it go through the install process? Any errors? Does the cm7 install appear to complete too quickly? Are you using twrp or cwm? Have you wiped cache and data then tried installing 7?

Sorry for the lack of details. I'm using TWRP, trying to install the CM7 beta. I have wiped cache and data before flashing, as I always do. But yeah, the install seemed to complete suspiciously quickly, like 5 or 10 seconds. It does say that it completes successfully, however, with no errors.

I've had similar issues and I found in another thread that powering off and powering on the device enables Deep Sleep which helps immensely with battery life. The key seems to be remembering to do this after a SOD.
You have to do a complete power off/power on cycle, rebooting doesn't seem to work.

Thanks, I'll give the power off/on cycle a chance (since I'm still using cm10 'til I get cm7 to work), and see if that helps.

[Q] wifi tethering

Im trying to setup wifi tethering on the x10mp (phone 3G->wifi to a laptop).
I've tried Barnacle (laptop failed to connect to phone), and "wifi tether for root users" (two apps), but both gave an error message that the kernel is missing some components.
has anyone got some wifi tethering app to work on x10mp? and if so, which one and how?
TIA

AW: [Q] wifi tethering
If you are on stock SE firmware, even if you have rooted your phone, Wifi tethering wont work for you, as the stock firmware does'nt support tethering. Here is a link with a list of tutorials and custom ROMs (I think all ROMs from android 2.3 support tethering):
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1588192
The easiest way would be to install xrecovery on your stock kernel (you'll find one under "stock kernel based custom ROMs) and then flash a GingerBread(2.3) ROM via xrecovery.
Please press thanks if I helped .
Tnx.
Im using the stock SE ROM.
Kernel 2.6.29
Firmware 2.1-update1
Any chance I could get wifi tethering working w/o installing a custom ROM?

Sorry, bro, but I've never heard of anyone gettin tethering to work on SE stock firmware, but custom roms, especially on GB, are really worth it. Why don't you give it a try ?

Well, these show that people (allegedley) got wifi tethering on the x10mp:

http://www.android-trick.com/2011/11/root-xperia-x10-mini-with-wifi.html
Im afraid of bricking my phone if I try to flash a different ROM, as Ive never done this before.

Don't be afraid of flashing Roms in stock kernel, its simplicity itself. If you have already rooted your phone, here's a quick how-to:
1.Download stericson's busybox from the market & install newest version (currently 1.20.2, I think)
2.Download the zip file in this post
3.Download script manager from the market.
4. Extract the files onto your sdcard so that you find the files "chargemon, busybox, xrecovery.tar, readme.txt, installer" in sdcard/download/xrecovery.
5.Open script manager, give superuser permissions (tick 'browse as root' on first startup), navigate to the folder you extracted and run 'installer' as root (tip on the superuser symbol on the top left corner. When activated, it should be green).
6.Download the Rom you want to flash onto your sdcard, a link you'll find in my earlier post(only choose from stock kernel based roms)
7.Reboot.
8. When the SE logo appears, press back button quickly several times. You will boot into xrecovery.
9.Make a backup via xrecovery.
10.wipe data via xrecovery and install your downloaded rom, surprise, via xrecovery.
11.reboot&enjoy!

Looking forward to the files you've mentioned.
1. Can I create a backup of the current kernel & ROM (the SE stock ones which the phone arrived with)?
In case something breaks during the process, I could hopefully revert to these.
2. Can I get the wifi tethering functionality without updating the kernel, only by installing a new ROM?
When I tried the "wifi tether for root users" app it showed an error message that the kernel is missing some components.
Xrecovery
So, here is the zip.
PS: All credits go to the guys in the following link (quangnhut123), he uploaded the files, I only wrote the installer script .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=950324
Change in step 4:
4. Extract the files onto your sdcard so that you find the files "chargemon, busybox, xrecovery.tar, readme.txt, installer" in sdcard/download/xrecovery.
Yes, you are able to restore your previous system via an xrecovery backup.
Please press thanks if this worked for you. If it didn´t please tell me what went wrong, I will fix asap.
NOTE: I havn't tested this yet, because I havn't had time to reflash & root my X10 MP. As said above, if it doesn't work, I will fix .
When I used the stock ROM, I used brancle for wifi tethering, It worked. Unfortunately, I do not remeber the exact settings. But I'm sure, It works.

What about my question regarding the kernel? as I mentioned, when I tried the other tethering app, the error it displayed was that the kernel is missing some components. so If I use the stock kernel, and only install a new ROM, will this still allow wifi tethering, or do I need to flash a new kernell as well?

Well, I don't think your kernel is missing components, that would
1. Disprove the links in your post and
2. Disprove what tommy posted.
Also, I'm pretty sure that when I was on Minicm7Pro (with stock kernel), I had wifi tethering.
PS.: Bro, if you are using your browser for posting and you are logged in, there's a "Thanks"-button on the bottom left of every post, or if you are using the android app, just click on a post and the option thanks (danke) will appear. Pressing this will for one thing be easier than writing thanks in a new post, and also, many people like it when their thanks meter goes up and will thank you in return.
PPS.: If you alredy know all that and I've just made a fool of myself, sorry . Besides, I'm just testing the method I described myself, I'll give you feedback as soon as everything works .

What ROM do u recommend getting (I'm staying with the stock SE kernel)?
I want something super stable, and for which everything works.

First of all, did the script work (yet)? Have you tried it yet? Sorry, I havn't tested yet, but I will do so today.
Secondly, MiniCM7pro always worked well for me, but if you like the stock SE style, try SonyStyle by the same developer.

Actually, I remembered, that i can simply see the settings in my wife's mini, which is with the stock ROM, and uses Brancle. I just tried it, works flawlessly. The phone is only rooted, nothing more. Here are the settings:
SSID - elka
BSSID - empty
Wireless encyption - five low-case letters, no numbers, no symbols, for example - abcde, ASCII encoding
Channel - 6
Custom Wifi Ad-hoc - none
Skip wpa_supplicnat - not checked
Auto Associate - not checked
Accsess control - not checked
New client actions - Notify (checked), Sound - Play a ringtone, Light - empty, Allow - empty
Local mode - checked,
DHCP - Gw - 192.168.5.1, Mask - 255.255.255.0, First Host - 100, Lease time - 1200 sec, DNS1 and 2 - empty
NAT - leave everything default
WAN- rmnet0
LAN - empty
What do you mean when you say "laptop failed to connect to phone" - tries, but can't get address, or nothing happens? If nothing happens, try to press the "Associate" button.
I remember, that there was something strange with the password - make it as simple as you can. If it is not working, try temporarily to disable encryption.
I cannot tell the version of Brancle I am using, but Market doesn't offer me an update, so it must the latest one, at least for the stock x10 mini with stock ROM. If you know how to check it - tell me, i will do it.
And something else - check the security settings of the laptop - are the Ad-Hoc networks and WEP encryption allowed? Brancle makes Ad-hoc only, not infrastructural.
Good luck!
EDIT/
As I see from market, the version of Brancle is 0.6.7 (evo)

Tnx Tomny.
I set the same settings as u did, still no luck.
The barnacle log shows: WIFI: failed to reassociate
Im using linux (debian), with network manager, which should be able to connect to an adhoc network,
any ideas?
TIA
Update:
It works for only a single time. The gnome network manager defined the wireless network as "infrastructre", and I changed it to "adhoc".
It connected once, but Im not being able to reconnect again now. ;-(
any suggestions?
Try to connect some other device, to see whether the problem is in the device, or in the Mini/Brancle. What do you mean, saying "not being able to reconnect"? - You cannot see network, you see it, but nothing happens when trying to connect, you can try to connect, but cannot aquire address (ie stuck on "connecting...")

well, the log on barnacle shows "failed to reassociate", but not much else.
how did u define the network on the pc/laptop? any special settings there besides being an "adhoc"?
Could you please check what is the kernel version & OS build number on ur x10mp? (they are listed under settings, in one of the submenus there).
