After rooting both our phones to glitched ics a couple weeks ago, we both have the same volume problem with our ringtones. Even when volume is turned up to Max, it is clearly not nearly as loud as it was in stock. I can never hear my phone ring anymore, my notifications are plenty loud, it's just the ringtones that are the issue, and we have tried several, so it's clearly the volume not the tones we are using. I can't help but feel like I am missing something really obvious?

Did you go in and adjust the volumes to where you want and link volumes? Just a thought.

Link volumes? The only volume controls I can find are the ones under settings, and I have it turned all the way up for my ring. Is there somewhere else I can adjust with any of the extra tools in the glitched ics?

Now I see what you mean by link volumes, that was already checked in mine.

Install the free Volume Control app to get a second opinion.

Back when I had a blackberry I loved the ability to adjust volume and skip tracks with the side up/down buttons. Even while the screen is off in sleep mode. All you had to do is hold either the up or down button to skip back or forward. Right now all we can do is adjust volume. Possibly maybe there is someone out there that can modify the player to do this also???? It was VERY convenient not having to wake up the phone and flip thru a couple screens just to select the next button. Im sure everyone out there would have to agree. Devs! Im counting on you to figure this one out!

Every rom. Every single freakin one, pulls my notification volume down to 20% without my knowledge. I go into settings and pump it back up to full and lo and behold, 20 mins and 3 missed texts later, back down to inaudible levels, so I finally made a thread about it.
Help?
Someone else out there on the internets has to have experienced this also.
Thnx guys

set any notification ring tone by:
Go to > for example messaging --- once there--- Then> hit menu button then> settings then> notification ringtone-- there-- you can change that notification tone While there then set volume with volume rocker. then save you are done. This is true for all volume settings. You can do this in email and if you have different email accounts you can set them with different tones. This is why Android rocks over the Iphuc
Lemme see. Check back tomorrow to let you know.

have you unchecked the option for the ringer volume to also be the notification volume?
I would do that, then the volume rocker will never be an issue.
Can't find the option to do so on nextgen

Menu settings, sound, volume, check box?
Pretty certain this is on all androids.
You can get widgetsoid and make a widget too...
No checkbox. Just volume levels for each.

Is there a way to link the ringtone and notification volumes? Or is there an easier way to adjust notification without hunting through settings each time? With cm7 these two were linked in fact I think it its line that in an aosp ROM.

Not to thread jack, but in a related issue...
When I play pandora and output to a set of external speakers via the headphone jack, I must turn the media volume level all the way up for the speakers to play at a reasonable level...
After awhile, the volume just decreases... I try pressing the volume UP key but there is a message that says something to the effect of "playing at high volume for extended time can damage hearing." Is there a way to disable the message and volume attenuation that occurs from playing media files at highest volume for extended time... I searched through the settings and googled this but nothing comes up...

Looking for a solution to this too... I wasn't sure if this was an option stock or not, I guess not. I'm running unnamed and was going to suggest it to gtg, once I get enough posts to post in that forum
You can long press on your home screen and add shortcut, settings, then sounds.
It's not exactly a no effort way, but it will make adjusting the volume quicker.

Haven't run into that problem myself. But there are a few apps on the market that can boost audio volume to your headphone Jack.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
Download the app called "quick settings" it allows you to link them in its volume control section of the app. That's how I link them.

Thanks, I might check that out, although I'd prefer not to have an app to do this.
I'm really hoping there is a fix/solution for this because this makes absolutely no sense.
While on a phone call, the "notification" for text is so incredibly loud (through my headphones) that it hurts my ears. Now please don't tell me to just set the notification volume low because then I wouldn't be able to hear the notifications when I'm NOT on a phone call.
It seems incredibly ridiculous that one cannot adjust notification volume when on a phone call. On my blackberry while on a call, it would produce a soft chime if I receive a message but it's soft and just loud enough so I am aware of the incoming text. With this phone, it screams in my ear! And to make things worse, if I put the phone on speaker or handset, the notification screams through the speakers and the person on the call says what the hell was that???
Is the only option to adjust the notification volume down EVERY TIME I MAKE OR RECEIVE A PHONE CALL... or go deaf (or annoy the people I'm on a call with)?
Please tell me there is a real solution because I can't find one.
You can turn them off

I don't want to turn off notifications altogether. I just don't want them going off at the standard set volume while on a call... because it's blaring loud.

I downloaded GOSMS PRO and inside this app there is a setting to set to vibrate while on call... This app is much better than the stock messaging..IMO.

ahh, so go sms replaces the stock messaging system? i don't want that. but i do want the same thing that pj is looking for.
looks like there is nothing that can be done for it pj :-\
the only thing i can find to help you is, goto Settings / Sound / Notification Ringtone. now when you are on that menu, turn your volume rocker down. you will see that the "Notification volume" can go down (or up).
that is all i can find, should help some
Using tasker you can change the volume level during a call and set it higher after...

I find myself hitting a brick wall in the way Samsung chose to deal with volume control. It seems if you set the ringer off it forces notifications to be off as well. I can't overcome this behavior with Tasker
Does anybody here know how to get around this as Cyanogen may be some time in coming.
Even when u hit the volume key and tape the settings icon and adjust the ringer and notification volume, still does that?

That does work but the moment you set the ringer to off it just disables the notification volume as well and ghosts it so you can't change it. Under other roms you can have a seperate notification volume while the ringer is turned off.
Is there a way to over ride this with root?
I see what u mean. I don't think my s3 did this. This phone does a lot of things differently. I can't get lock screen Short cuts with any security enabled lock screen for example. Seems like "holes" in touch wiz
