[BUG] SMS/MMS Text size & preview issue - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

I have noticed this as an issue on 3 different ROMs that I have flashed and thinking it must be a Sense 4.0 issue, but thought I would ask anyway.
Inside of the MMS/SMS app, when reading a text, the text size is huge. I've set the font size to small inside the app, but nothing changes.I've also set the font size inside the system settings (settings -> display -> font size) to small, but the text size remains pretty large. Anyone know of a way to make this stick so the font is small?
The other issue is that if I set the message preview to 1 line (also inside the MMS/SMS app), it sticks until I go to another app and then come back into the MMS app, and then the preview is either 2 or 3 lines. VERY annoying and somewhat cosmetic, but is bugging the hell out of me.
I have tried this on Viper, Flipz and Joelz ROMs and the result is the same on each, so this is why I'm thinking it's a Sense 4.0 issue.
Anyone have any ideas?

For the font size issue, open a text message and then pinch the screen where the conversation is. It should zoom out and make them smaller.

I did that, thanks! I'll see if this sticks (thinking it should).

It probably won't.
I noticed the same "bug" and it seems like it randomly resizes the font.

I changed the font size to small in the system settings and it didn't change until I rebooted. Have you tried that yet by any chance?

Using the pinch method above did work for the font size inside the texts themselves, but didn't help with the preview.
And yes, I did also try changing the size and then rebooting but that didn't work either.

Same bug exists in email app, as far as preview line setting.

Same with mine. I rebooted and it went smaller but then the next time I went to it, it was small again. I wish there was more control over having different font sizes for different things.

message preview
i have exactly the same problem with the message previews... it's infuriating! after rebooting it reverts to 2-line preview but in the sms messages app settings it still says that it's set to 1-line
ive looked everywhere and cant seem to find this problem mentioned anywhere except from here...
i had this problem on ordroid 9 and now on viper. have tried superwipe, clearing app cache, etc to no avail..
did you find any solution? or does anyone have any ideas to make it stick when rebooting

No, I never did find any solution other than pinching the screen to reduce the text size. I have tried around 6 or so sense-based ROMs and they all do it, so I'm chalking it up to sense.

Go to settings, privacy, and un-check the box for show message text in the lockscreen section. Once you open privacy in settings it's pretty easy to figure out.

I have the same problem. How the hell do I disable text on lockscreen?
Might not be the perfect solution, but you could always try GO SMS Pro. That app has tons of different options for notifications. Hope it helps.

I have found another way around this if you don't mind using the AOSP lock screen.
The AOSP lockscreen will NOT display the contacts name or any part of the txt msg.
Use rootexplorer and go to the /system/apps folder and re-name the "htclockscreen.apk" to "htclockscreen.apk.old" then reboot your phone. If you ever wanna go back, just change the name back and reboot.

thanks for the tip, it works great!
BTW, did you have issue on data connection when you change the lockscreen. I have a feeling it's probably not, but just want to ask since I am losing data connection after I made the change. Probably its Verizon flacking ...

3D Alignment Changes Not Saving

I seem to have an issue whereby when I adjust the alignment of a 3D image to make it crisper and then click Save, the image looks fine. Then when I navigate to another image or exit the gallery the image alignment reverts back to the original and the changes aren't saved.
Does anyone else have this problem?
Some people seem to have the same issue: http://forum.pocketables.net/showthread.php?t=10163
Bump?
I've tried restarting the phone and removing the battery but the problem still persists...
Hmmm, I've noticed some changes seem to be saved but after connecting the phone to my Mac changes are lost! The file modified date does not change from the created date either...
I've found an app called 3DSteroid which can make alignment changes but surely I shouldn't really have to buy an app to do what the phone should already do!
So nobody else has this problem on here?
What are you using to adjust use alignments?
The standard Gallery app like so:
http://www.htc.com/uk/howto.aspx?id=83886&type=1&p_id=398
Wow! I didn't even know about that! That's cool. Now I can save my 3D pictures into 2D. Woohoo!
As for your question, mine remembers the settings. You think your gallery apk is corrupted? If so, I could upload mine and see if that helps.
Hehe it's a good feature to have (while it works on mine!).
Out of interest on yours does it remember the settings after you plug/unplug the phone from a computer and does it actually modify the files or does the gallery app store the alignment settings?
Thanks but I'm not rooted and I'm guessing I can't replace the app without having root access? It's something I'm looking at doing but I've only just got the phone so I'm a bit nervy about it!
From the looks of it, the gallery just remembers the new alignment. I don't think you need to be rooted to reinstall an apk file.
PM your email address to me. I'll send it to ya.
Ah thanks, I've just PM'ed you with my email. Do I just install from ASTRO like any other apk file?
Thanks!
The version you sent me was slightly newer. I clicked Upgrade but it comes up with an error 'Application not installed'.
File Version = 4.02117323218.115252
Installed Version = 4.0.2116342830.92213
Maybe I do need root access?
Well that sucks.
It's very odd... on some pics the settings seem to save (but then can revert back again at some point) and on other pics the settings don't save at all!
Oh well, thanks for your help anyway.
No prob. Hurry up and get rooted!
You guys do realize the adjustment is on a per-image basis, right? The setting isn't supposed to "stick" as a global setting because you are not adjusting the display: you are adjusting the parallax of an individual photo.
Mike
Yes we do. He's talking about how he tries to save the change, but for that file, it doesn't save the change.
And it's really weird how they revert back after a while, which leads me to believe that option has a cache limitation in the gallery, or either that his gallery is messed up.

Hi, yes I realise it is on a per-image basis. The issue I'm having is that changes do not 'stick' to the images.
I guess a hard reset could help but I'm reluctant to do that as it'll mean re-applying all my settings etc.

Gmail inbox becoming bold with new messages

I noticed recently that when I receive a new Gmail message, the new message is highlighted and bold, etc. just like normal...but every other message in my inbox is also bolded. And once I read the message and I have ZERO new messages, everything remains bold until the app is either force closed or ends by itself (by Android multitasking or whatever).
I thought it was due to the ICS theme I'm using, but I'm seeing now that every theme is doing this...I also installed the Roboto font sometime before the ICS theme, so maybe that's it? I used the font from the Font Installer app in the market.
I tried searching for more info, but it doesn't seem anyone has this problem. I've deleted data/uninstalled and reinstalled the Gmail app a few times and it still winds up happening. At first I thought it happened randomly, but I'm pretty sure I've narrowed it down to only when I get new emails.
Not a big problem, but annoying nonetheless. Does anyone know what could cause this and/or how to fix?
Having the same issue as well. Running the ICS theme by Sonny on CM7. I also installed the Roboto font. Kind of weird though I didn't notice this right off though. Seems like it took a few days after installing the ICS theme before it happened to me.
A fix would be nice, but as you said it's not a huge issue, but I'm curios as well as to the cause.

Which Roboto are you using? Did you use a Market app to install it or a CWM zip or something?
I used the font installer included in Rom Toolbox, I do believe it's the same as Font Installer on the market by Jrummy (uses the same storage location on the Sd Card anyway)
To be honest, I'm not positive on which version of the Roboto font was installed. I placed all versions (Bold, Itallic and regular in my fonts folder). The font installer shows me a preview of only the Bolded version, which looks like what I'm getting in Gmail.
I'm going to download FontChanger from the market and see what happens with that.
Edit: Tried Font Changer. While it does give more options and the ability to choose whichever version the of the Font I want to install, still have the same issues. After a reboot, all my read email was perfect, as soon as I sent an email to myself, right back to all unread mail being bold again.

Hmmm lame.. I think I'm gonna try installing Roboto from another source then some time to see if that helps. I don't really see why a font would make this happen
Ok, now this is weird. I used Helvetica which is very similar to Roboto, and sure enough, the same thing happens. Bold read emails. I switch to Caviar Dreams font, and back to the normal Unbold read emails in Gmail. Wow this is really crazy

Hmmm kinda seems like its just a problem with certain fonts that's gone mostly unnoticed before now! I was gonna flash the roboto font in zip form, but the flash failed so I'll have to figure that out next. What other options for installing roboto are there?
Map the font in this manner using fontchanger:
DroidSans --> Roboto-Regular or Roboto-Condensed
DroidSans-Bold --> Roboto-Bold or Roboto-CondensedBold
This should fix your issues.

Droid Razr and GO SMS?

Anyone else using GO SMS with the Razr? If so the theme you have selected for the app, is your background being cut off below your list of text messages? I have tried several themes and compared side by side with my old Galaxy S phone and can not for the life of me figure out why its doing it. Here are a couple of pictures showing it.
I am really liking GO better than Handcent, but the breaking of the theme although minor is still driving me crazy since its destroys the theme lol.
Thanks for anything! Looking forward to trying out some Roms in the future!
Just tried adding a custom background to check whether the same would happen, and no I didn't notice any oddity. Displays full screen as normal
Thats odd....I've got two brand new Razr's. Only thing I've done was to root them so I could restore other apps. Both of them do it as you can see in the pics. Guess I'll try clearing data and uninstalling and re-install and see what happens lol.
I've cleared all data related to GO SMS and uninstalled both it and the theme. Reinstalled and still it will not show a background on the message list within GO SMS. If you scroll left or right within GO SMS to the Application Center or the GO Chat screens the background is there.
Not sure what else to really do here....
Recent updates still haven't cleared this up. Anyone else have this issue on their razr's??
Seems odd I have two of them that are doing this. Its not a big deal, just kinda disappointing since I've purchased some themes that now don't display right.
When looking at the screen where it lists different text messages mine looks the same as yours, theme color on the people and grey under but it's full screen theme color when I click on individual txt conversations.

Well I guess I'm glad I'm not the only one then. I've tried to email the developer but emails seem to go unanswered. Not sure what is different from this phone and my old Galaxy S, but it looks fine on my old phone.
Must just be the Razr, I checked my wifes LG Revo and her screen is theme background all the way down.

Maybe after some new roms or ICS comes out this will be changed. Just wonder if its something with GO SMS or something with the Blur on the Razr.

Messages app - change font size?

Using the Samsung Messages app on my Verizon S9+, I am unable to permanently change the font size in the actual conversation screen. Yes, you can pinch to shrink and expand font size but that gets reset to standard size every time (unlike on the S7 Edge where it remembered your size preference).
Through Settings, you can globally adjust font size but the only Messages screen this affects is the main Conversation screen which shows all conversations. Once you click on a conversation, normal font size is presented. Frustrating for my old eyes...
UPDATE: Ironically, when you adjust Font Size in Settings, if you swipe the sample screen above the sliders, it shows you a sample Messages screen and the font size does change in the sample, but it does NOT change in the actual Messages app. Sounds like a bug to me as they are depicting what I want to do, just doesn't work.
I'd like to use the stock app as it has some features that are unique. There must be a way to change the font size so the setting is persistent, no?
Seeing the same also. Hard for my aging eyes to see.
And also finding it doesn't follow the global setting for size. Same as you.
Same issue. I don't think you can change the font size just for the Message app.
I when back to my beloved and trusted Textra SMS app.
It changes when you change the font size in display settings font.

As I mentioned in my post, this is not true. On my phone, changing the font size in display setting ONLY affects font size in the main Conversations view. Once you click on an actual conversation, the font size returns to the default tiny size.
You can get a newer version on apkmirror.com but it wont allow updating samsung apps for some reson. Anyone have the latest version of messages signed by samsung that will install?
They need ro bring back the S8 messaging app which has this inbuilt feature to adjust text. Wonder, why they ripped off that useful feature.

Hopefully Samsung will acknowledge this bug and release a new version of the app. Clearly the global Font Size Setting is supposed to do exactly this.
Same thing. Very frustrating

It's really not that hard to pinch zoom. Takes a half second. Sure, it'd be nice if it would stick but, c'mon man.
I had a problem with the Background colors in the Messaging ap - some of the themes I like to use are really awesome but when I get to the messaging ap, they used yellow fonts on a white background - nearly impossible to read. I either have to use a different messaging ap entirely (Mood is a pretty good one I found that has TONS of customization options) or just guess at what was written - or change themes.
It's dissapointing that I can't change the balloons or fonts in the messaging ap any more - would be nice if we could - and change font size too - so for now, I am using the MOOD messaging ap and while I prefer the Samsung Stock one better - Mood isn't bad at all.
Its not only internal Messages app, Viber and Hangouts has really small font in input line. Tried increasing font size, tried toying with DPI settings. No idea why its like that and only affecting text input lines, but hope some later update could fix that?
Hi Everyone..I just got the 9 plus and the messaging app is different than it used to be. It is just blue bubbles with white background. It wont let me change anything like before and the setting the background wallpaper for messages is no longer there....is that how everyone else's is?
I also switched to Textra for the all of the customization that it offers. It's a free download so I gave it a try and I've stuck with it since. Just my 2ยข

No, not "come on man". It should work as designed, and has worked since GSI-II.
I use Chomp. Let's you change all of the fonts and sizes, including the message notification pop-up.

I think you mean, "It should work the way I want it to work." It IS working as designed. It's just that you don't like the new design.
That's not to say that I don't agree that it would be better if we could choose a persistent font size. I do.
But we're talking about a split-second pinch out to increase the size.
A split-second.
So, yeah... C'mon.

Thousands of people having to take a split-second to adjust for a design bug every single time? No. You're missing the point.
