Probably a stupid question, but how do I edit the declined call text messages? Where it sends them a text if I decline the call. I'm using Viper 1.2.1
Second that. Under "Phone settings", "Other settings", "Decline calls" is checked, but there's no way to edit the text (and when I decline a call or simply don't answer, I don't see the option to send a text either.
Has HTC done away with this?

I know I can make my on text, but usually im driving. I'd rather just have a pre-made one that I can select. Or even better, just one that is default to my liking for my job.
Still on stock, and the option to send the text is definitely there (after i decline the call), but i can't figure out how to change the defaults either.
In settings under call, i only have the option to decline calls with text, but nothing else about it. I'll keep digging.

It's easy on Android 4.0, yeah. Wait until our AOSP ROMs to drop, then we can.
Stupid that HTC destroyed so much of ICS.

I suppose this is where I complain about devs taking their sweet time to provide me a free service right? lol
Somewhere there is a file with those four or five pre made text replies. If we can find it, I suppose we could edit it.

Took me a while to figure this out. Hope it helps!
To add or edit a Quick Text, you will want to go into the messages application. Then select an existing message thread and act as though you are going to send a message. Make sure you tap the 'Add text' box and bring up the keyboard. Then hit Menu at the top and select Quick Text. Then hit menu again and then you can add/edit/delete a Quick Text. You can then set up a canned message to use.

Does this happen to anyone else ... When I send a txt message it says I have a new one in my notifications and I have to open it to clear it out? ??

Have you even looked at any other threads in the Q&A section? It's been talked about before.
Sorry been looking. I guess I will look again.

It's pretty much a bug and only appears when you use the drop-down notification feature to check your txt messages.
Its not in my drop down its on my message icon on my homescreen and in my app drawer. And I just did a search and found it for just about every other phone but the 3vo. Does it say how to fix it?
Sent from 3days in the future and still no dang S-off !!! WTF
By the way you described it, it sounds like you have send notifications turned on. Go into messages. Then do "Menu", "Settings", "Notifications". Now look to see if you have "Sent notification" checked. If so, that's why you are getting a pseudo message: it's acknowledging that the message was actually sent. Uncheck it and you're golden.

Yes I have the same problem,
This is different from the "sent notification"
No its not checked. I don't have sent notifications on. Lets say I send you a message and I back out it will say I have one message and when I open it, it is just the message I just sent. Its not in my status bar but the app itself. It does this with all message apps. I tried handcent and go SMS also and does it with them too.
Sent from 3days in the future and still no dang S-off !!! WTF
Mines does the same thing....ghost messages and my sent notification was never on.....HTC took this 3d thing out of hand, our texts are in 2d now smh
That's weird. It's normal to see your own replies (in white stickies) when you check, so that might be normal. But if your "Messages" icon is showing a "1", maybe it's just fouled up. Have you tried dragging the "Messages" icon to the trash and then re-adding it from the full app list? I had to do that once when my VoiceMail icon started fouling up with the "number read". Maybe this is the same kind of thing?
Mike
It's not just the messages icon, but inside the actual application.
Yes its in the app too and it sucks so you never know when its a new message lol

OK. I'm being dense here because I can't see it and it doesn't happen to me, but... your outgoing replies are always in the application. Your replies are in white and the people texting to you are in blue. Are you saying it is marking your (outgoing) reply that appears at the bottom of the text thread as "unread"?
Mike
Exactly... And it says you have a new message in that thread until you go into it, and read your own message that you just sent...
Are your (outgoing) messages in white? Reason I ask is that if it is marking them blue, it means the phone has an identity crisis: maybe your profile is messed up and it doesn't realize the message actually came from YOU.
Mike
Yes, they are in white.
I tried updating my sprint profile, but It's still doing the same thing.
I'm pretty sure this is just the way sense is. You will need to download a 3rd party messaging app to get around it. I remember the 4g being this way too.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA Premium App
I've noticed this only happens when you bring up messages app from the notifications bar, then reply.
I guess you could try backing up your existing messages (if they are important) and then use Menu, Settings, Applications, "All Apps", locate "Messages" and then click "Clear Data". Maybe if some settings got corrupted, that would clear it. I'm sure you already tried powering down and pulling the battery for 1 minute, then restarting.
Mike
I'll try the clear data. I've tried everything else.
Is there a way to cancel an SMS during sending? I used to be able to go to the outbox and stop the message before it sent (Accidental, bad message, sent to wrong person, etc). However, I can't seem to do that on this phone. Is there any mod or app that can allow me to possibly long press a message while it's sending and cancel the sending? (I get ****ty reception where I'm at, so it usually takes a couple seconds before the message sends).

Why don't you try selecting the message as its sending and when the menu pops up you hit "delete". Usually works for me when sending mms.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
I tried that. Sometimes it works, but sometimes it still goes through. Also, sometimes I don't necessarily want to delete the message, but rather edit it, especially if it's a long message :l
Haven't gone through that yet so don't know but that's the reason I always type the body content and do fill in the recipient last.
Handcent has an option to confirm before sending.
doesnt take long at all to send a sms message. but if you do delete it before it goes through, it will get canceled. But only have a limited time. Cant edit or delete a message thats already sent/recieved.
Quick fix: Dont be so fast to hit the "send" button
Go SMS pro also has the same feature. Let's you confirm before sending a message. I'd recommend moving to that or handcent if you wanna be in more control of your SMS app. Plus the ability to swap themes on the fly is always nice too
Sent from my SGH-I777 using XDA
Confirming every message would be annoying. Plus, even if I had that functionality on, I'd grow to just confirm without reading. I usually catch errors when it's being sent (my luck ). Also, I tried deleting a message that was being sent the other day, yet the person still got it? Was I just not quick enough or...? Because I saw the little green arrow still indicating that it was trying to send the second I deleted it.
Proof read? That's what I do, not always 100% but it helps. Hopefully you find a solution. Until then, proof read ;-)

I personally can't vouch for that method of deleting-while-sending to be true. I used to do that a lot and sometimes it worked. Others it didn't. And confirming every message can be pretty annoying lol. Other than that though there isn't much else to do other than pay a littleeee bit more attention before you hit that nice shiny send button

New Android user here......coming from iPhones in the past. Been playing with the S3 for nearly a week now and so far have no regrets at all.
My question right now is about the GO SMS Pro text messaging app. I love the way it has a pop up that shows the text message and you can quickly reply or quickly delete it. The problem I am having is when I am recording a video on the phone and a text comes through, the pop up window will stop the recording automatically. Of course, that would not be good if recording something important.
So, does anyone know of a setting or fix for this. I went through all the settings, but nothing seemed like it would be for that. I may try to email the developer to see what he/she says, but wanted to see if someone here has an answer first.
Thank you for your time.

If that ends up being the only way, then I will just stay on the stock app. The pop up feature is the only thing I really care about. I know I wont remember to go disable the pop up feature every time I go to record something.

Hi,
Upgraded to the S3 from a Desire HD, after their shocking decision to drop ICS.
One quick question, on the HTC you touch a contact and it starts dialing. On the S3 it opens the contact and you have to click dial again... This throws me every time!
It there anyway to change this behaviour? I want to be able to just touch the contact either in the contacts list or call logs and the phone to start dialing and not open the contact.
I using stock ICS...
Thanks,
Kiz
set up a few favourites in contacts then open fav tab in contacts I'm sure there's a way to always open favourites instead of contacts tab. anyway then you will see phone icon next to their name one click call.
workaround but ye

swipe your thumb from right to left on the contact (in phone book and log) to text or left to right to call him/her.

It's like that for a reason. One thing that throws me about Sense is that it's always wanting to dial someone. What if I want other options??
But, like the poster above said. Swipe right to dial or left to message contact.

You're absolutely right. When using HTC phone, I always accidentally click a contact while scrolling the list of contacts and it start calling the person. Very annoying. This will never happen in Samsung phones

Great, thanks guys.
I've had sense phones now for 3 years, so got used to it! For other options it's a long press.
Honestly, they had me with brand loyality and would've gone for the One X if they didn't drop ICS for DHD.
But, I'm liking the S3 and I live with the swiping!
Cheers,
Kiz
When rejecting a call you get a choice of preset texts to send, is there a way to change these like I could on my S3?

Did you ever figure out how to do this? This is something I'd like to be able to change as well. I know I can send a "one-off" text by using the blank line option that comes up in the list of presets. But I'd like to be able to have a preset that says something like "I'm driving, will call back later". If you figure out how to do this, please let me know! Thanks!

Yeah, it's bizarre. Even my old Razr could edit the predefined messages. And I'm pretty sure that my old WinMo 6 phone had the ability too. I've been using custom preset text messages since I can remember. Well, hopefully HTC will add it in an upcoming update. Until then, I'm going to look into a custom clipboard app so I can at least easily paste in a preset message in the custom response field when that reply by text prompt comes up.
This was really bothering me because it has to be there... And I finally found it! Open an existing thread in the sms app, tap in the text field like you're going to reply, and then open the menu and select quick text. From there you can add, edit or, delete. Seems silly that it is no longer an option in the dialer.
