It seems that Samsung Dive only works on my sgs2 when either the wifi or the network data mode is enabled on the device. What's worse is that if the "Wireless Networks / View Location in Maps" option is disabled, it will ask to be enabled while tracking the device.
Practically making Samsung Dive uesless.
Is there a fix for this? I've flashed a few ROMs but I'm back on stock, I never had this problem before flashing ROMs. Thanks.

I'm curious how you expect it to work without some kind of data connection.
Regarding your point about being asked for permission, if on KK5 at least, if you freeze the Network Location apk (com.google.android.location), the prompt does not appear and it does not seem to inhibit your ability to use GPS correctly.

Sorry if I made myself unclear, what I mean is that the user has to manually enable wifi or 3g to be able to use SD. So if the phone is lost, there's nobody there to enable 3g/wifi, so SD won't work.
You weren't unclear. How would you like it to communicate with the phone with no data connection?

Before I flashed ROMs SD would activate my 3g (when it was already off), then activate my wireless networks / location option, ten activate my GPS, then find my device. But now all it does is sits there, trying to connect, until i manually enable wifi or 3g, which it will then ask me to enable my wireless netoworks / location, and then it doesn't do anyting.
OP, you make no sense. You didn't answer to oinkylicious's question: how can SD reach your phone if it can't connect to it? It's almost impossible, so yes, someone has to be there to enable data or wifi. It was always like this and it will always be like this with the current technology .
About manually activating the tracking system, I also have my doubts. I only tried this several months ago, but then it showed my location without asking me to enable tracking. I'm on CM7 now, so I can't test it.
Alternatives: theft aware can do the same thing (now quite good, but it works) via SMS. You just send the code to your phone, and it gives you the location.

Well it's just that on my sister's sgs2, she doesn't need to manually activate 3g.

What would the person use the phone for then? I actually don't think that a thief would have the slighest idea that he/she should turn data off.

You still haven't answered my question. Also, could you provide some proof that this works on the other phone with all forms of data turned off, as it intuiges me.
If it works on an older ROM, revert until "fixed". If it doesn't, use an app controlled via SMS.

Knowing people who live on a council estate talking about disabling the internet on a phone or turning it off and flogging it on ebay leads me to believe different. That aware theft thing that works via SMS sounds a lot better

Hy, did you find a solution, i was thinking to register to samsung dive but found out about this problem. Does somebody really neads to turn on data manually for it to work? Thats just plain useless. If i lost it somewhere who will enable it, or if somebody took it i have to pray for them to enable data, lol.
P.S. Im also on custom rom.

Yeah I use theft aware, but you can get it free with the avast antivirus app. It's controlled by texts, and it has a lot more features than dive, wipe protection, etc.

Avast anti-theft is really nice. I'm using it also, but it's still beta, and has some serious bugs sometimes.
So back to your original question, I think we can call it BUSTED. There's no way for Samsung to activate data connection on your phone if it's turned off manually

Thanks for telling us your phone doesn't work.
The question mark (?; also known as an interrogation point, interrogation mark, question point, query or eroteme), is a punctuation mark that replaces the full stop (period) at the end of an interrogative sentence in English and many other languages. The question mark is not used for indirect questions. The question mark character is also often used in place of missing or unknown data.
Thanks Sun,I'll try some modems and see if that cures it.
And thanks for not giving me a grammatical theoris.

Hi everyone. I have recently bought Galaxy S3 and i have a whatsapp connection issue. Not always but sometimes, when i opened whatsapp, it takes long time (1-2 mins) to connect. Also sometimes when i tried to text someone it will send the message 1-2 later.
Also sometimes, i received some massages with 3-4 mins delay, i think it is because the same problem at above.
In settings, 3G is enabled also. I didnt recognize any other problem like this yet(browser etc) related with this situation. I havent any problem like this on my old phone (iphone)

I have the same issue and its only with whatsapp, I just ignore it as the messages send with a slight delay (whilst they are waiting to send I can browse the Web etc, so not sure how it can be a router problem)

So you cannot solve the situation =(( This problem annoying me a lot..
I observed something yesterday. I enabled wifi and tried my whatsapp lots of time. The connection problem NEVER occured.
Also this morning i realize that when i sent the message and when it is waiting to send (like there is a connection problem), i checked the server status of whatsapp on application, and it says fine/server is ok. Also as "mrbubba999" said while it is waiting, i can use my browser to reach internet and there is no problem with it.
I hope the problem is related with to the whatsapp servers/application or smt like that...

From what I understood, the issues did not occur on wifi? Check your apn settings with your telco provider. May be a damaged sim card too.
The issue does not lie with WhatsApp as I just used it almost extensively everyday and there's no delay. Also, wifi does not cause any issues so it's definitely something to do with your data

Have you tried to change the connection port? There is an option in settings, where you can change the port if you have connection issues.

If there is problem on apn settings or sim card, how can i browse on the internet without any problem. Also while my message is waiting to send, i checked the server status of whatsapp but it says fine always immediately.
it happens,it goes. best way is to check whatsapp status on twiter, they have problems sometimes,it's not always the phone's fault
Hello, well this happens almost everyday. When im on whatsapp conected through wifi, theres a long period of time in which i cannot send nor receive messages, as if i wasnt even connected to the internet. Once it magically connects, whatsapp all of a sudden receives all my messages and sends every message i tried to send earlier. However, this does not happen on the browser or any other app that uses internet, it only happens with whatsapp. i thing this happens after long periods of inactivity, not sure tho. It is pretty hard to explain so sorry if u didnt even get it.
maybe i have to change some setting on the router or something ? thanks

But cant find that problem mate
Working perfectly in both the wifi and mobile data
I installed the CM10.1 kernel 3.1 on my Atrix 4G, but it is giving me some trouble with the network.
I'm not talking about the data connection, I'm talking about the fact that I can't make a phone call and people can't call me.
The phone says "No Network" and the only chance to have it back is to restart the phone.
Is there any solution to this problem?

No, it is not and I did, but I only find threads where people talk about losing of data connection, that's why I specified "no data" in the title.
If you have a link where is possible to read a solution I'll thank you, but I couldn't find any.
It's the same thing. There is no solution. You are running an ALPHA stage ROM which you should have known before flashing. If you didn't know that, then you did a crappy job at reading up before flashing.

Well, that's not exactly the same thing, I some time I also have data connection loss, but when that happen I'm still able to make and receive phone calls.
To get the data connection back, it is enough to put the phone in Aereo mode and back to normal, so it is not a big problem.
In addition I read about the ROM I was going to flash and on the official site (linuxmobile) I read:
Known to be working:
Calls
...
(so I expect that also network is ok)
Known bugs
MTP don't show files
HDMI
BT audio
Voice Dialer
Sound Recorder
Camera flas
(no bugs listed about network connection)
Features not supported
No fingerprint navigation or unlock
Wifi Direct
Gesture typing don't work...
Facelock
(no advice about network not supported)
So, as you can see, there are no advice about network connection loss and who reads that expect that connection loss will not happen.

True I guess. The working/not working lists are quite outdated though. Also, this ROM still uses the experimental kernel which is in alpha stage. This means what is labeled as "working" actually means "seems to work". It also means literally anything is possible, including something that is considered working to stop working all of a sudden. In short, this ROM was never meant to be a daily driver ROM.
Got it.
Well, I like this ROM and I want to go on using it, so I will follow the new releases.
I would also like to contribute to correct this and other bugs if possible.
Is there anything I can do to help? Maybe reporting logs about the connection loss? How?
Appreciated but there's not much you can do right now. This is a well known bug and it's being worked on. If you want you can follow the relevant threads in the Development section, every so often a new kernel build comes out which might fix this bug. But only try them out if you are confident enough in your technical knowledge, more specifically if you have sufficient technical background in doing basic adb/shell/recovery operations. Otherwise, if you feel you can't do this or you'd prefer a fully working ROM, you would probably be better of flashing a GB/CM7 ROM.

All future releases are kernel based. CM10.1 has reached the EOL as far as development goes. Please refer to the CM10.1, the CM9, and the kernel development thread for updates.
