[Q] S Voice - use third party TTS Ivona? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want S Voice to talk back to me using Ivona TTS. I can't see a setting to make it do this.
Menu - Settings - Language & Input - Speech - Text-to-speech output is set to use Ivona, but S Voice ignores this setting. Any way to get it to use Ivona?

Bumping this up as I still haven't managed to sort it. Any ideas, peeps?

Bump.

I would also like to know how to get this to work. Everything I've tried just uses the stock speak n' spell voice.

can't do it
I think Samsung does not make this possible, Sorry buddy you just have to stick with S-voice or you could try Google Now.

IVONA Voice did work with S-Voice before jellybean, most of the time anyway. Hasn't worked at all since, and I've tried all the recommended fixes on the Ivona FAQ page for upgrade complications (first, switching away from Ivona, testing voice, switching back, and second, uninstalling, deleting files and reinstalling). Samsung helpline was no help - dude had no clue what TTS even is. Haven't heard back from Ivona on this.

[Q] TTs Help

Anyone know how to disable TTS for sms? Don't like it reading out my txt messages. Im using Trigger v2.7 rom. Any help would be great appreciated.
Usually in Settings->Voice input and output .
I tired that, but there's no option for me to do it. Been stuck on this for days.
Do you have Vlingo? If so, turn Safe Reader off. If not, try freezing tts service with TiBu. They are enough voices in my phone; I don't need it talking to me too!
Sent from my rough sketch of a smart phone on a brick!
You could always remove or rename the TTSservice.apk, but that will affect Bluetooth Dialing, and maybe other functions that would seemingly be unrelated, but the BT dialing is all I know for sure.

[Q]Google Speech for Bluetooth?

Is there a way on the Atrix to use Google Speech instead of the Motorola voice command?

If you are talking about viingo, just use Titanium Backup and freeze viingo.

If I understand your question, try long-pressing the search key and select "Voice Search" instead of "Vlingo" and set as default.

I know what you are talking about coming from the N1 I haven't found any way to do that yet, chances are there may be down the road once custom roms are built for the device, but for right now, I can't see a way.
I've used Titanium Backup to freeze Vlingo. If I do, my bluetooth helmet won't use Google search, it "honks" at me. If I unfreeze, it uses Vlingo (which sucks). I froze the other 2 processes associated with Vlingo, still no go.
Anybody got this to work?

I read that post earlier and I'm pretty sure I tried that. I'll try it again once my phones back up and working.

Ah, I see what you mean now. My method only applies to "on-the-phone" voice input, not via a BT headset. I find that Vlingo requiring that I unlock my phone before it accepts input from the headset kind of defeats the purpose of the "hands-free" part. Or maybe it's my headset (Jabra Stone v1), but it didn't care back when I had my N1.

I have setting up as English(us), whatever I say, the result always is "mmm"
I have try recording voice at Webos, it is OK, but not working at android !
Have you tried voice search on another device? Reason I ask is last year I had issues with voice search returning jibberish when I used it, problem was with the voice data they collected getting screwed up online. If voice search fails on another device that's most likely the cause. You can clear the data in your Google account.
i think i might have misunderstood you. I use the actual google voice app for texting and I can search fine. there is another app call Voice Search which is completely different.
In any case, Voice Search app does not recognize that I say.

Good to hear that I am not alone !
have you try using "Sound Recorder" app from Alpha 3, It is not working for me as well, the sound record got abnormal playback. the sound record only work on WebOS ! Sad.....
Google voice search from the market does not work for me either, but.... the mic button on smart keyboard pro does work. It works pretty good, especially if you talk directly into the top of the touchpad where the mic is. Just thought I'd let you guys know. FWIW the voice recording app ALSO works for me. it sounds a bit muffled, but it does record and playback legibly.

Ok go to settings, application manager, on the top click all find S-voice hit it the click clear data. Hit thanks if this helps!

Clearing data worked & factory reset has worked once alsw, but I don't know why it keeps happening?
Samsung really needs to get their act together with S-Voice. Their software development on this was rushed, and it shows. S-Voice often stops working and requires clearing the App data, and even when it works, the app's inability to understand variation in syntax makes it far more limited than Apple's Siri.
I also notice that when I do a Google search using S-Voice, the web search is done through a Samsung sponsored adsense account, so it's evident that S-Voice is mainly an attempt by Samsung to monetize their users' google searches rather than an earnest effort to improve user experience.
The Galaxy S3 is great phone overall, but I hope Samsung comes out with an S-Voice update that will do this phone justice. Meanwhile, I'd love to be able to replace the double-click home button with Google Search instead of S-Voice.
However, at least I can access vanilla Google search quickly with a long-hold on the capacitive menu button.
I haven't had a problem with it yet. It sometimes gets mixed up and doesn't know what I say.

Lol I was having problems with S-Voice on my International SGS III understanding my words until I changed it from "English UK" to "English US" very odd indeed...
I'm running SVoice on my SGS2 with no problems and it's not even for our phone.
I wonder why you guys are having issues with it?
Powered by the SGSII
only problem i've had is while driving it will pick up the road noise and not end the voice command entry automatically, also if there is too much road noise the app will not audibly alert as it stops if it hears any sound
While not too surprised by it, the performance while driving leaves S-Voice worthless to me. If my window is down, I pretty much can't use it.
Also, I tried using it to launch Waze... it prints the correct name, but then says it can't find the app. I have yet to get it to open a non-default app.

I agree 100%! I use voice commands a lot, and mostly in the car is when I use them. That's the only time you ever NEED hands free control over the phone, and yet it's almost worthless in the car! I have to roll up the windows, close the sunroof, and if the AC is on you can for get it, lol. I think I'm gonna try the original vlingo app I've always used, because I know they are behind svoices software, but it worked better when I downloaded it to replace the Samsung tinkered vlingo on my s2. It could possibly be that the mic on the gs3 is very sensitive though? None the less, every phone has some apps that I don't care for.

Chang the voice in S Voice

Is there a way to change the voice in s voice? Maybe to one that's a little more smooth like the one in google now?

yes... there's a way to change it. I'm currently waiting on a new phone to be sent to me so i'm not sure exactly what settings you need to goto to change it but it definitely can be done. Maybe try settings when you have S-Voice open?
I believe its in settings>language, you can change the tts from google to samsung, and it sounds less robotic and a little better, but in my opinion s voice is next to useless. There is a free app called Dragon Now I downloaded from the play store which works a little better for searching stuff... Its not a s voice replacement or anything, just better at searching for "stuff" and yes you can have both installed at the same time and choose which one to launch when you double tap the home key
Well I have IRIS will kills SIRI and S Voice buts its that same generic voice, actually its more robotic then S Voice.
