[Q] Pictures after factory wipe - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Just out of curiosity...I was wondering as to why when I install a new custom ROM, wipe my phone, cache etc.. my pictures and launcher backups aren't deleted?
Is this pure luck and should consider moving my internal data to my external?

That's because it only formats the data partition (like your apps and stuff).

Full wipe means all data of previous rom you have installed to be wiped clean. All other things like on your sdcard still stays intact. Apps of course get deleted as you put your phone bk to factory settings. That is why is always best to backup your apps with Titanium backup.

Whenever you wipe. Do a factory reset. Wipe cache. Go advanced wipe delvik cache as well as battery. This is a complete wipe and your sdcard contents will stay intact as long as you dont say wipe sdcard.
As for titanium backup works well when you stay on Gingerbread Roms but you gonna pick up problems if you restore apps in ICS when coming from GB. My suggestion download fresh ones.

This is not possible ...

When I flash with Odin it does not wipe any my files.?? I can install any rom with out no files being wiped! What causing this?

You're not doing a data/factory reset before you flash the ROM.
You mean files on your internal Sdcard? Odin doesn't do that. It resets you back to stock ROM.

back when I made some roms for the BH2 some were like that. It has to do with that is being flashed. technically your data partition does not need to be touched when using odin and it just does system kernel and recovery, there is more to it then that but odin basically acts sort of like an update.zip file if /data isnt getting written then you files will still be there.
Does data factory wipe internal files?

Be more specific. Are talking about your internal SD or other partitions like /data or /cache or /dbdatabase?
What specifically are you trying to wipe and why so that we can better help you fix this.
In some roms it says it will possibility of erasing internal SD. But In recovery and I do wipe date and cache and delvik and flash a new rom. The old files from the last rom still on my internal SD

their supposed to be there...
Wiping data and cache and dalvik only clears out the previous ROM and removes your apps, it doesn't remove anything from your internal/external sd.
are you TRYING to remove stuff from internal/external?

[Q] How to reformat phone?

Hi,
I have CM7.2.0-RC1 installed on my Droid X2 (latest right now). The phone has gotten kind of laggy and I want to reformat the phone. And by reformatting, I want to my phone to be like I JUST installed CM7. Is there a simple way to do this since I'm already on CM7?
Thanks!
If you want to make it like a fresh install of CM7, boot into recovery and do a factory reset. This will wipe all your apps though.

Wiping my apps is fine. Will it also remove all my pictures?

i keep all of my pictures and such on the root of my external sd card. if you do the same, wiping data will not erase your pictures.

Great, thanks so much to both of you!
Go in to settings do factory reset . yes it will wipe all the data in your internal memory including pictures and videos. If you don't want to lose your data so synchronized phone and backup data.

again, any pictures you want to make sure you keep, put them on the root of your external sd card somewhere safe, and wipe through recovery.
sorry this post made no sense to me and i wanted to avoid confusion. any images saved in camera apps folders may or may not be erased. move them to somewhere safe.
I have wiped data/factory reset many times from cwm bsr and have never lost any of my pictures. Fyi, wiping or resetting doesn't touch DCIM folder on your internal storage, which is where your phone saves them to by default if you select internal storage. I have some on both my external and internal storage and have never lost any of them. Again, wiping doesn't touch the folders where your pictures are stored. Unless of course you format your sd card in bsr.

It seems that factory resetting using a custom recovery like CWM or TWRP won't remove pictures.

Erase all data when switching roms

Hey can someone help me I want to know how to erase all data when switching Roms. I've noticed when I factory reset wipe caches, some left over data will carry over from old ROM to new ROM........ Thanks in advance

I also had this question in my mind a couple days ago and found the answer, I wiped all the caches/dalvik/system etc....then formatted the internal storage (sdcard) in cwm which i never did until now...that erased all leftovers...hope this helps
Yeah, when you get into cwm, format /system. That will take care of it for sure. Anything on your SD cards should be irrelevant to the OS unless you're restoring data.

just to follow up on what jank said, if you do format /data/media, it will erase your whole internal sdcard. i do this every time i install a new rom to give it a fresh start. this does not affect your external sdcard.
Thanks so much guys!

You only need to do format /data. That will format the whole /data partition including /data/media which is the internal sd card. However, I just want to say you only need to factory reset, wipe system, then dalvik. Wiping the whole /data partition is only causing you more grief. Nothing on the internal sd card can cause ROM issues. I have been flashing ROMs on several devices (phones and tablets) and have never had to wipe my internal sd card.
All that is necessary is to follow the directions given by the ROM developer in the OP.
EDIT:
Factory Reset - Wipes /data but not /data/media. It also wipes cache.
Wipe Data - Wipes the whole /data partition (Meaning ALL user/app created files)
Wipe data/media - Only formats internal sd card.

Flashed Rom and now internal sd shows folders twice

Hello all,
Just flashed a new Rom clean (wiped cache, davlik cache, system, etc) and everything works, however now everything on my internal sd card shows up twice. In other words where before I had one alarm folder, I now see two. And this has happened for everything! Is there a fix for this? Or am I going to have to erase my internal sd card and flash again?
TIA

Which rom?
If you're on the Sense 5 ROM, clear your media storage in your app settings. After you do this you can make a backup of your media storage with Titanium Backup, so if the problem arises again you can restore your media settings without losing anything.

Bigdaddy - I flashed the latest Meanbean Rom.
Finz28 - will that work for a sense 4 Rom?

Final update - FinZ28's advice on clearing data in media storage did the trick after a reboot. Thanks!
