[Q] How to overclock Xperia Ray? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Mobile - Xperia Ray (ST8I)(Urushi)
Build Number - 4.0.2.A.0.62
root access - yes (the phone has already been rooted by flashing .42 kernels, using zergrush method and then flashing .62 kernels)
Bootloader - Unlocked using Flashtool
I want to ask that-
1) How can I Overclock my mobile? I have already tried setCPU and CPU master but of no use.
2) Is it recommended to overclock it as it is a compact phone and gets pretty hot while charging! If yes then to what limits?
I would like to avoid installing any custom rom as they have whole lot of bugs!

Mmm so the only form is installing CM7 and then a overclocking kernel is not another form, and no cause any damage to your phone if you put in the correct limits

yap for overclocking u need a overclocking kernel
but be careful it might allow u to overclock ur device to an sampling rate it does not support
if youre trying never set the option set on boot cus in some cases the phone restarts after you put in a wrong clockrate
it works for me but the performance improvements i liked where not really there

Can you provide me with the links to download the kernels?

Overclock in system, instead of kernel?

Hi guys, i was wondering is possible to overclock this device (sk17i) without need to flash a custom kernel, but inserting the modules directly in the system, like the old X10 mini.
I already have root access, but i don't want to unlock the bootloader, cause i will lose DRM.
Can the overclock be done without kernel?
Where i can find the modules, and how i can put them in system files?
Thank you!
P.s. Sorry for bad english, I'm italian.

yes it is possible. download no frills cpu control and there you can overclock your mini pro with stock kernel.
my max clock freq on no frills on my mini pro sk17i is 1.024ghz. i think thats the limit for a stock kernel
I Know i can set the min and Max freq. of the core, but this is not the real "overclocking"... I want to raise the cpu over 1,2 GHz... and i'm pretty sure there are modules for doing it, without need of the kernel...
For example, the old X10 mini can be overclocked without need to flash custom kernels...

Nope you need coustom kernel.
Btw overclock eats battery...

1024 is STANDART cpu clock
But why other phones are capable to overclock without a custom kernel? (X10 mini for example)
There is really no way to overclock without kernel?

sadly, there are no modules avialable for now, why do you wanna overclock it? 1Ghz is pretty good for an HVGA phone

My bad so I guess nofrills only useful if you're on custom kernel

they are capable of overclocking without custom kernel because they had locked bootloader and it was imposible to flash a custom kernel which will alow us to have oc. because of that doixanh made oc modules for x8, x10 mini and x10 mini pro. these modules worked on stock kernel

it is posible but somebody has to write a oc module
Overclocking
What if I change the value manually by entering sys/device/system/cpufreq. In stock kernel ??

[Q] About SetXperia app

I'm really having a hard time understanding about the undervolt in SetXperia application. They say it will improve the battery life (not battery lifespan) of my phone but the problem is... I don't know how to set up the undervolt to manage the battery life of my phone.
I'm using Xperia Neo V.
Thanks for your help
more info needed... are you running a custom kernel that allows undervolting? what phone, and what rom?
I'm using a xperia neo v with a stock gingerbread android os, no custom kernel just a rooted stock rom.
Do i need to install a custom kernel before i can undervolt?
thanks for quick response

I m already on .62 stock version. How can i root it...
What are prerequisite to install HYBROM v15 or any other rom?
just install using CWM right???...
But IMO to get CWM i need to change kernel?
My main requirement is to get good battery life, so i want to remove all bloatwares..
Any other suggestion how can i get good battery life..

Fxp cm9 is based on ics ,but it has some bugs still not stable if you want to install that Rom you have to unlock the boot loader and update the baseband and you should flash fxp kernel

I recommend you to not to freeze any app since you don't know the nature of the apps , if you want to save your battery you can use some good task killer and by over clocking your CPU to less than 1 GHz you can save lot of battery , also by setting some profiles in setCPU app to do this over clock you have to flash a kernel like xkernel which is really good in battery bakup
Also you can use good battery saver app

By cwm you install the 0.62 ,the stock kernel is inside the zip and it is rooted already

I disagree. Using taskkiller increases battery usage. Apps restart itself, taskkiller kills, both these require more power. Better let them run, Android kills them itself when needed.
Yes, there are some apps, that can be removed/frozen, will post a link later.
And its underclocking, when you set CPU frequency lower.

Oh thanks for the lesson ,if you post the link for freeze the apps that will be helpful,
But by ignoring the selected apps we can stop restarting ,so by using efficiently we can save battery that's sure :-D
And it is under clocking I forget that ,I helped him according to my knowledge any way thanks again for the valuable help
Thanks for the help...
Actually on my sgs2 i have frozen many apps, change kernel and underclock it.. so i m getting good battery life.. so i thought do same with se live...

As we can't change the CPU voltage inside the phone so we strongly recommended don't using the overclock kernel.
flashing wont affect ur phone but overclocking can affect ur phone
Thank you... For all the advices

I have noticed that some of them has overclocking system
Are those kernel effect on my device even if I don't use 1.6ghz or 1.4 or something like that?

Also you can use stock kernel .. and flash CWM with X-parts app from playstore

No.The overclocking feature is just an added benefit. It's the user's choice if he/she wants to over/under clock his device. If you overclock your device higher than it is safe (more than 1.6) you would likely fry your motherboard. If you underclock it lower then you will have lags. Generally 1.2 GHz or 1.4 GHz is considered a safe option.
