First of all. I'm new to xda.
Since I'm new I may not post in the development pages. I've used this guide trying to root my S2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125414
But when I get to step 10, S2 Root says, that my phone is not connected to the computer. So what could I possible do wrong? I flashed an insecure kernel to my phone with Odin, and when I start up my phone I have the yellow triangle as I should have at step 9.
I can connect my phone to the computer through Kies, so I just don't get why S2 Root says that my phone is not connected.
I have searched through a lot of threads to find someone with a simular problem, but I can't find any and since I'm new to xda I may not ask my question in the thread that i used.
Hope someone can help me.
Firstly check if you're not actually rotted already. If you have the superuser icon then you are rooted..
Have you enabled usb debugging on your phone? It should be on I believe. Go to settings development and tick the corresponding box.
Make sure that Kies is not running (even in the background)
Try to use the same usb port (on your computer) as the one you used during the Odin flash.

Why not just flash a rooted kernel, such as CF-Root => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399&highlight=CF+Root?
That's the easiest way of rooting IMO.
Good luck !

I have a few points to discuss here:
1. The phone is not connecting with Kies on my laptop via Bluetooth. It is connecting only via USB Cable. Why so?
2. The phone is not pairing with my Dell BH200 Bluetooth headset. It just doesn't find it when Bluetooth is turned on.....why so?
3. The Phone ringer is erratic when you use custom ringtones (mp3 files which you copied to the phone from the laptop). When I get a call, sometimes the phone rings and sometimes it doesn't. I'm sure that there is no problem with the hardware of the phone, but this is a software issue. Maybe the phone sometimes fails to load the mp3 files from the media folder (where I copied my mp3 songs) OR maybe some app installed on the phone is interfering with the ringer......any ideas? I am getting this notification a number of times : "FAIL TO ADD MEDIA TRANSPORT" and "FAIL TO CREATE TRANSPORT". Usually when someone calls me for the first time, the phone ringer does not ring (is muted)....then only on second try it rings.
4. Is there any firewall app which can block internet connections of apps which I don't wan't to get connected to the internet without my permission? The apps that I know of require Rooting. Is there an app for unrooted phones?
5. If we Root our phone, will we get future Updates from Samsung (via the phone internet and via Kies) or will they block future updates to our phone? And will the warranty become void if we root our phone???
6. I tried to root today, but when I connect the phone (in download mode) to the laptop via USB, Odin fails to show the connection (the box meant to turn yellow on connecting, does not do so). Any ideas why?
7. Can somebody who successfully rooted their phone with KE8 kernel, post a STEP BY STEP ROOTING GUIDE specially for all the INDIAN OWNERS OF SGS II???
Will appreciate if I get point wise answers to all my questions. Thanks in advance.

But you'll have to solve your Odin issues first.
STOP those eye-catching titles for getting attention !
No firewall for unrooted phones, to take one, IS NOT A MAJOR ISSUE.
And 5 is a question, WTF has it to do with being an issue.

@B3311: Thanks for your reply. Yes, I am trying to solve my Odin not working issue with Intratech right now.
@Electrox666: Thanks for your reply. Yes, I agree #5 is a question........do you have the answer? Any answer/solution for the other issues posted in my list of issues? Any genuine solution/help will be appreciated.
Other than these issues, I am very happy with my SGS II and can proudly say that I own the best phone in the world (at present).
Cheers!
And will the warranty become void if we root our phone???
Yes as per Samsungs letter .
jje
@JJEgan: Ok, thanks for letting me know that the warranty will become void after rooting as per the official notification from Samsung. That's a downer indeed! Does it also mean that Samsung will not Update any phone software/firmware after rooting? I think under normal circumstances, Samsung updates the phone automatically via the phone internet or via Kies, whenever an update is available....am I right?

Update is via product code on Kies some update some do not i have never been able to update a custom rom .
jje
lol I had/have NONE of those issues.
All the Issues are your own fault.. because you don't know how to handle it.
check out my signature about the firewall question!
@JJEgan: Ok, so it's safe to presume that I won't get updates from Kies after flashing a custom rom? But my purpose is only to get root access so that I can run apps like Droidwall and Titanium Backup. I want to be as close to my original stock rom as possible. Also, I believe, if I want to get rid of that yellow triangle on boot, I will have to re-flash the original rom thru Odin? So my question is will I get updates from Kies (say for example, updates for Gingerbread future versions) after I re-flash the Original Kernel? Pls advise.
If you flash the original full firmware that came with the phone then yes Kies updates that when their is an update for it but that can be many weeks after stock firmware released .
jje
By stock firmware, do you mean the stock rom? One stock rom (file size 557 MB) is available at samfirmware website....is that it?
I've downloaded two files from XDA-developers :
GT-I9100_XWKE8_insecure.tar (insecure kernel) and
KERNEL_I9100XWKE8_CL214845_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5 (Original file)
Do I have to flash the Insecure file when I use Odin & Super One Click for the first time to root? And then to remove the yellow triangle, I have repeat the same procedure to flash the Original file? But I am confused about the second (original) file which I've download coz it has the extension .md5 ...... is that the correct file type?

why not follow the instructions on the thread that you downloaded the files from?
the extension md5 means that the file will just perform an integrity check to make sure it is a 'good' download, i.e. nothing missing, etc. just use it as normal.
Thanks for your reply, Stoney73........ am going to do just that, that is follow the steps given in the thread from where I downloaded those two files from. Just got doubtful because of the different file extensions of the INSECURE (.TAR) file and the ORIGINAL (.MD5) file. Asked the same question in another forum (androidforums) and someone replied that the .md5 file is not a correct file and something bad will happen if I flash it with Odin. That's why wanted to make sure before I root my phone. So you are saying that Odin will flash both the files (.tar and .md5) in the same way and I should go ahead with rooting my phone?
@JJEgan: Ok, so I rooted my phone following the instructions given here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1126522 using Chainfire's method.
Now to remove the yellow triangle, the instructions say I have to extract the zImage file from the CF-Root-SGS2_XW_ODD_KE8-v4.0-CWM4.tar file and paste this zImage file to the SD Card of the phone. But how to do that? I am now unable to view the files on the phone when connected to the laptop via USB cable. When I connect now, My Computer doesn't show the GTi9100 like it used to show earlier. I am seeing the SAMSUNG_android under Devices and Printers and can only see the properties. I cannot open it or view the files on it. Now what to do? Pls help.

I got no help from you, all right! And did u even read what I wrote before shooting off your mouth! I have already extracted the zImage file from the CF-Root-SGS2_XW_ODD_KE8-v4.0-CWM4.tar file .... what I don't know is where to paste it in the phone COZ the Phone is not showing up on My Computer like it used to earlier when connected via USB cable. Now all I am seeing in My Computer is two new "Removable Disks" which I cannot open. The phone is now showing as SAMSUNG_android in the Devices & Printers of my laptop, but I am unable to open it. So if I am unable to open it, then how to paste the zImage file in the phone!
And I didn't address my question to you, so please don't bother to answer. Thanks but no thanks!
I actually see no reason in rooting and keeping the original rom. Battery life is incredible on certain custom roms!

Like many others, I also want to remove that yellow triangle from my boot up screen. That is the reason Chainfire has given instructions on how to do it. But if somebody tells me what are the benefits of keeping the custom rom which I just flashed, then I might keep it. But the issue at hand is that after rooting, how to connect the phone to the laptop (for file transfer etc.) via USB cable. At present, when I connect the phone to the laptop, it is not showing up as it used to earlier. Now all I am seeing in My Computer is two new "Removable Disks" which I cannot open. Kies is also no longer connecting to the phone. So how to manage the files on the phone via the computer? That is the question.
is your phone set on usb debugging?
if not go to settings->Applications->Development and switch usb debugging on.
you should be able view your file in windows then

I gave you the step-by-step root guide earlier - you thanked me for that.
I told you that you had to solve your Odin issues first, which, after you telling Intratech that his "guide doesn't work", proved to be nothing more than you being incapable of reading instructions and thus couldn't put your phone into download mode. Hilarious.
I'll "bother to answer" whenever I feel like it sunshine.
I know exactly how to solve your current problem. But I'm not going to tell you.
Your thanks but no thanks in return - to a dark place where you can't extract.
Dear mighty community,
I recently successfully flashed with ODIN (the unsecure Kernel XWKDD) my S2. Everything passed and my phone rebooted.
Upon starting SuperonClick apparently just at the end of rooting the program starts to freeze. "Step 6" couldn't be finalized.
So, of course I had to force close Superoneclick.
Tried to connect with Kies. Nothing. Updated Kies and the "try to look for connection" solution didn't help either. Restarted phone and computer. Still nothing.
Installed Kies on another computer, latest version. My phone still won't be recognized. " solution looking" didn't work.
Tried my luck with superoneclick eventhough no Kies. Program freezes at Connecting to phone now, doesn't even get to "step 6".
Little bummed out of how to finalize root or even reset phone with original software without KIES recognition.
Please, mighty community, help me
kies has been having a few problems from what i have heard..as many have the same questions as you try searching first before you open a thread..anyway a thread similar to yours that dont recognize handsets or firmware is here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285544
dont know if it helps but shows that your not the only one whos having problems with kies..
By the way what was your original firmware?? Cause before it happened to me when i tried rooting and never had it recognised by kies...so i tried to find the kernel that matched the closest to mine and it was recognised and updated the firmware....
But il be honest i dont use Kies anymore and its not useful for me at all...but whats your original firmware and i will help you try to match the one you should flash through odin again
I played a little bit with turning usb debugging on and off several times. I turned USB dubugging off and KIES recognized my phone. Started Superoneclick couldn't get passed the "awaiting connection to phone". Forceclosed superonclick. Closed KIES, turned debugging on, started superoneclick and it got up unitl the point on the picture. Then freeze!
With great foresight I didn't wrote down the kernel version
I only have general information which, I guess, won't help anything:
The buildnumber is:
GINGERBREAD.XWK4
And the kernel version I installied is: [email protected] #2
Right i dont know if this will work but give it a try..i will give you two links..one is for rom and one is for your kernel...
http://www.multiupload.com/LH122I67IU
thats for your kernel stock
http://hotfile.com/dl/116887059/f45e1a7/9100XWKDD_I9100XXKDH_I9100XEUKD1.zip.html
thats for stock rom.
that will unroot you and get you back to stock again...once you done that and you flashed back to stock then try and see what kies says to you...and if your going to root please for the love of god dont connect to kies cause it will not recognise your firmware..but i think you can backup data and transfer your music and stuff
give me a message if you want more help
and follow the guide in the link below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
KDD just about the first firmware for the may release of the SGS2 .

Three main problem I encounter is an interrupted rooting process. I am able to flash successfully the rom with odin but unable to complete root with superoneclick. It always stops at step 6 no matter what I try. Other machines, rebooting, start with admin rights. simply nothing.
Usb debugging off made kies recognize the phone but still unable to complete root.
I know, I started a thread with different problem and am now facing a new and different one. But I really owe you a lot for the time you put into helping me to figure out my priblem

Hi so I recently followed a page on androidadvices.com to update the firmware to 2.3.5 on att i777 and was successful. if u google it u can check it out, i cant links yet. noob
Then I followed another page to root it on the same website. (-galaxy-s2-i777-gingerbread-235-firmware/[/url]). I then flashed the kernel included in the download file and know it worked because the yellow triangle comes up on boot. phone works. but w/ 2.3.5 the wifi turns off after 5 seconds. any help
main issue - trying to root. next step calls for superoneclick. got stuck at "waiting for device" as if it didnt recognize it. then i downloaded s2 root and tried that and it said 'phone not connected plug it in and try again'. thought it was a driver issue so i downloaded newest drivers and kies is up to date.
help please i want to root it and how would i get it back to normal? can i flash a regular kernel back through odin?
much thanks

Hey I have a SGS2 but its a generic handset from ACG. Its similar to USCC device but my kernel is completely different than any others on the web. If I use ODIN to flash a custom Kernel in my device will it result in data loss or any other harm? I am still kind of lost as to what using ODIN to flash a custom kernel will do to my device other than put CWM and SuperUser on my device.
I would also like to know this. I also have a SCH-R760.
I actually ran through the rooting method, and the Kernel didn't touch the Radio. I didn't have LOS, and I am running Jelly Bean on my device now. You can follow the links in my signature below =]

If you can get it in download mode, do a one click Odin back to stock and start over. For my phone I use EL29. Usually if you can get it to Samsung screen, it is only soft bricked and fixable. Good luck!
Install the Galaxy S 2 Drivers
Driver Download
On your phone, select USB Debugging and Unknown Sources from the Settings menu.
(unknown sources located in the application tab in settings at the very top and usb debugging located in the application tab in settings in under development).
Plug your phone into your computer with the USB Cable that came with it.
Download this easy rooter tool
Epic 4G Touch Auto Fixer
Run the e4auto-sfx.exe (aka Root and download mode placer)
Press E then Enter.
Then press H then Enter on your keyboard then press any button to continue.
Your phone will now reboot into download mode. (green android guy that with a downloading bar)
Download Odin if you don't already have it
Odin Download
Download this Stock SCH-R760 File
Stock Download
Select the PDA Option on your Odin and flash it.
This will restore your device to factory default settings. From there you might need to flash your carrier files into the phone since this will restore it 100% back to factory settings.
If you have more questions I am here to help.

I am sorry to be 'That guy'... But this is not the right place at all for this question.
If there is a forum for the device in question, you need to go there and ask the question. If not you need to go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=456 and ask the question there.
If a noob comes in here and does anything on there E4GT from this post, they will be very unhappy.
I have asked a MOD to move the post to avoid confusion.

This guide works great for the SCH-R760x even though this is a US cellular site
Root Guide with CWM and no Triangle.
Team US Cellular posted some good stuff for this phone on their website. Haven't seen any mirrors on XDA yet
http://teamuscellular.com/Forum/files/file/140-stock-ics-with-root/
I have a Sprint Galalxy S3 SPH-L710 Android version 4.1.2
I searched all over the place and I chose the Official Phone Rebel's video and method from ... well, it's on phone rebel dot com but the forum won't let me link to it. I assume many of you know it. I know I've seen many posts recommending it.
It had the most "it worked" comments, as well as definitely being for 4.1.2. So I tried it. Five times now. But it's not working. I can't post to the forum for that method because I don't have 10 posts here yet, so I hope this is the right alternate spot.
I know I got the right file for the SPH-L710 from the page he links to.
I followed the steps EXACTLY as he says, and Odin on my computer did exactly what his did in the video... except I did not get the custom icon. When my phone reboots, it's still not rooted. (No SuperSU and RootChecker says it's not rooted.)
I did install the drivers from the Samsung Website, and it appears my computer is recognizing the device fine. I did not install Kies as I'm not sure exactly what it is and nothing told me to make sure it's installed. I DO have USB debugging checked in the phone settings. I tried several OEM Micro USB cables from Samsung and other companies. I also tried several different USB ports on my computer... Odin doesn't recognize them all but seems to do fine on one of them.
Sooo... I'm searching forums to try to figure out WHY it's not working, and everything I'm finding is rather confusing. Here are my questions:
1) Does anyone know of anything else I could be doing wrong? Would a factory reset be worth trying? If so, does it matter whether I do it through the recovery menu or from within Settings?
2) Do I need to try another method of rooting?
3) If so... does it matter which method? I read somewhere that sometimes trying one method after another method can brick your phone, so I'm hesitant now to try another method unless someone can assure me that it's okay to try it after CF-Auto-Root.
