Help: Another stupid user bricked his phone. - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, I already read the guide on top of the page, and some of it was a little confusing to me. So here is the condition and specs.
Bricked condition: Equal to a brick. Won't turn on, CANNOT get into download mode.
Phone: Samsung Galaxy S2 provided by T-mobile. It had ICS
Rom I used:[ROM](AOKP B38) Dragon ICS V3.1 SE [1080p-MP4-AROMA] (14/06) Fixed Version Online!!
Thing i have: Odin, and the 2 other files needed to root my phone.
I repeat I cannot get into download mode, and Odin or My computer wont recognize it. Any help would be very appreciated!
Thanks to whoever helped!

if you cant get it in download mode i dont think you can fix it, sounds like hard brick, is there any sign of life in your phone, maybe a USB jig
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLryErBgdTE

Yep BBB is right. You might as well try a jig because they cost all of a couple of bucks, but unfortunately that's a JTAG/service centre job given you have no download mode & no other signs of life from the phone.

Anything else?
That's really not what I wanted to hear. Is their ANYHTING else i can try, ill try anything right now (except take it apart) I will do that later tonight if it could fix it.

only way to repair is to get it in download mode to flash kernel or firmware ect, without a way to connect to computer there is nothing you can do that i no of

Well ok, thanks!
So will it work if I get the jig and use it?

bombaybadboy is right you cant do anything now...Need to take it to SC

If you entered Download mode with Jig than yes...If it also failed than No

I know that's not what you wanted to hear but do you want the truth, or do you want people to piss in your pocket (I.E lie to you, build your hopes up/give you false hope) ?
There might be a 0.0000000000000000000001% chance the battery died & that's the problem, so I guess you could try a new battery. But being a betting man, my bet is you'll end up with a spare battery for when you get it fixed.
Edit to add - A jig has the same chance of working as a new battery, that is, not very much chance.

this is a real long shot but try this, probably wont work tho,
1.- Remove both the SIM card and de microSD card.
2.- KEEP YOUR BATTERY REMOVED
3.- Apply the Download-mode button combination (known by you all)
4.- WHILE HOLDING THE COMBINATION, insert the battery, and keep the buttons pressed untill you get the download mode.
5.- Flash your phone with a valid firmware through Odin (Preferebly, have Odin prepared before doing this trick)

No one else seems to have noticed this or mentioned it...
When you say T-mobile, are you by chance in the US? If so, then you've flashed a ROM meant for a totally different phone.
This is the forum for the GT-I9100.
If you are a T-mobile USA user, and got the Galaxy SII from them, then you actually have the SGH-T989. Totally different phone, with completely different hardware.
If I'm right, then you should go to the T-mobile Galaxy SII forum for help and advice.

Yeah
I am from the US and that is my phone. Could you please give me a link where i should go? thanks
P.S. Doing the battery and download mode thing didnt work, but im gonna try the link you gave me, thanks!

[Q] Bricked my phone?

So I had previously rooted my SGSII, and decided to try installing CM7 on it. I used CWM Recovery and ran it off the SD card, and everything appeared to work fine. I think I had a bad/not fully functioning CWM or something, as it didn't list an option to backup anything (I'm guessing because I flashed the stock kernel after rooting?) Anyway, it will no longer boot. I can access download mode, but Odin fails everytime I try to flash anything back on there. When I try to boot my phone, I just get a "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue" error.
EDIT: I just tried again as I was writing this, after rebooting, reinstalling my drivers and rebooting my computer. I was able to get the Firmware to flash properly in Odin. Now I have my phone booting and getting stuck on the "Samsung Galaxy SII GT-I9100 splash screen... Doesn't seem to go any further than that though, unfortunately.
Any ideas what I can do? Is it possible that I need re-flash a bootloader or something ??
Any help would be supremely appreciated!
So I was just trying to re-install the Kernel, using the CF unsecured kernel, and it failed, but when I try to go into recovery mode, it looks as though it managed to install CWM Recovery. I have no idea what to do from here, and am sort of afraid to do anything for fear or bricking the phone completely...
I'm hoping someone out there knows how to fix this, I feel like such a tool
As long as you can get into download-mode, your phone isn't bricked.
If you switch from or to a TouchWiz-based ROM, you have to do a full-wipe in the recovery.

Go back to stock first via download mode via odin
Nah you're good. Similar thing happened to me at my first flashing attempt. Get your stock firmware from Intratech's thread, put the phone into download mode & flash the firmware via Odin.
Then maybe have another go at rooting the phone with the matching CFRoot kernel.

yes, if you can still go in download mode it's no so difficult..this "small brick" it's on of "Android things to do" once in your SGS2 life
Hi guys. I'm in a worst situation. As my phone after a failed ODIN downgrade from Android 2.3.6 to one stock kernel is completelly dead - it doesn't boot anymore - not even managed to put it back into download mode or revert to fact defaults (no keys, no lights not even battery charging displayed when pluged in) - tryed the USB jig also. Nothing worked.
The question is: Will Samsung manage to repair and how much will it cost - an average ammount offcourse. Because I guess it's out of the question to be considered a warranty issue. I guess it will be visible somebody have done smth to the ROM by a software approach....
This is the short story because I would bore you to discuss all the things I have been through - it was only my faoult out of stupidity
HELP!
I don't see why Samsung wouldn't fix it ? As to how much they'll charge you, I think you'll find that will vary from country to country (labour costs being variable, etc). No, I don't think you'll be able to have it repaired under warranty.
You might want to look at having it JTAG repaired by someone other than Samsung. This will possibly be cheaper than having Samsung repair it. Do a search on here/Google.

Thank you very much. I have searched alot to actually understand - unfortunatelly for me it will cost... I saw on youtube a JTAG in action right now (cannot post the link yet). I understand now it is the only way. I'll keep you posted guys. Tomorrow I'll go to service.
I'm sorry it's going to cost Alex. A difficult thing to happen, I know
Here's a link for a JTAG repairer in the US who is also a member here, tho I see you've already found one. I'm sure doing it this way will be cheaper/probably faster than having Samsung do the repair as well.

Thax. Funny thing is that this is exactly the thing I found - the same mobiletechvideos in US Now I allready have an ideea of how much should cost that. Hopefully I'll find a local GSM repair shop with the posibilitty to unbrick it cheep - or at least not much than 50USD - in local currency ofcource.
I'm still thinking if it is possible to use an ATMEL copy process - like in the old times for EEPROMS - I have done that in the past. In theory it might work but I will never do it - alredy scared about what happened to my beloved droid.
Thx again Mistah and have a gr8 day and a wonderfull new 2012!
Yeah I've seen a report or two on here from people who have used his service & have been happy. Must admit I found his page when thought I'd bricked my phone after my first flash attempt messed up. Yeah you might be able to get it done cheaper somewhere local, and that will mean less time without the phone for you without the phone in mail from you to the US & back again.
Let us know how you get on, your experience will be a good guide for people in future who have the same problems as you.
No probs man, happy to give you the little help I did. You too Alex Hope you have a great year & you get your phone back & working soon

Hello again. Solved right now. The service didn't charged me at all - I was kind of lucky after all. Unfortunately there are still some issues I have from the start. I'll keep on digging - software related.

bricked my S3 ? Completely dead

Just got the phone today. I rooted it, applied CM mod, went back to stock, then tried to install the Energy HD2 mod to check that out. Installation failed and now it will not even start / turn on. I tried putting it into upload mode, download mode, straight up hit power and turn on - and nothing works.
Any recommendations?
EDIT: Why can't I post a reply to someone here? I see no reply box and it says 'You may not post replies' and 'You may not post new threads'?

Yes, I did. Thanks.
First of all, why the f... are u flashing so many roms at [email protected]#$$%€£…
Now the air is clean. Can u get into download mode? If yes, then go to samfirmware.com and register then download LFB rom to your PC and flash it with Odin, then root it with cf-root.
now DO NOT FLASH ANYTHING ELSE FOR 24 HOURS. let the phone settle.and instead read the OP and check screenshots of the different roms and find one. Also check out the "apps & theme" forum and look for suitable theme instead of flashing a full rom.
Ps. If u can't get into "download mode" then order a USB JIG(301 ohms exactly) from ebay.
Good luck.....but stop your flashing mania or your phone is a goner.
EDIT: Pull out your battery for 20 min,put it back then use 3 button combo to get to download mode..
Btw cm7-9-10 is for experienced users not for noobs.

1. I'm not a newb.I've been running CM nightlies for over a year.
2. The feature sets for the roms are different and I don't see why I can't try them. Energy seemed more mature for the S3 and I think I would prefer a stock-based rom that just cut out the bloat.
3. Tried the battery pull thing. Odin did not recognize a device being connected. It was like there was no battery in it at all. The USB JIG idea sounds interesting. NExt time I have an issue, I'll look into that.
4. Thanks for your help but the new phone is here today and the brick goes back.

Hard Bricked my phone.

I'm running stock JB with siyah kernel on my SGS3 GT-I9300. I wanted to try out a rom from CyanogenMod but when I was flashing it through CWM, my phone froze!! Now, it's not powering on. It's not going to download mode or recovery mode. I'm scared now. I flashed the right file, I know that. But somehow, it didn't work. Any ideas?
Also, I wanna know, that if I take it to Samsung Care, will they be able to make out that my phone was rooted before? Because device status was modified & flash counter was around 12 before I hard-bricked (atleast that's what I think) my phone.
Please help me out.
P.S. I'm new here. So, move my thread to any category which you think is suitable for it. I thought it should be in this category, so I posted here.

That`s weird, did it just froze during the flashing? I can`t imagine how that could hardbrick your phone since Cyanogenmod doesn`t touch the bootloader. At least download mode should work. BTW what version of Siyah Kernel did you use?
Yeah if you can`t even access download mode then there is probably nothing you can do. You can try a USB Jig but if that`s not working too then take it to a Samsung Service Center and play dumb. Say the phone just wouldn`t come on. And if they can`t access download mode then I highly doubt that they can see if your phone is rooted.
Thanks a lot

Thanks a lot for your answer. I'm an experienced flasher and I flash roms on daily basis that's why I'm also very shocked at this.
I have a USB jig from the days when I used to have Samsung Galaxy S2, but it's not working with my S3.
Anyways,I'll take my phone to Samsung Care only I guess. :crying:
P.S. Even after changing the motherboard or something, they won't know? Cuz otherwise I'm out 40000 rupees!! (I live in India)
EDIT: I was using Siyah kernel v1.8.9.
If Samsung get it to boot then its no warranty but probable that they will put it down to SDS and just change the motherboard .

Ok that`s really weird. I suppose it`s just some hardware failure then. Of course that it happened while you flashed a ROM is very unfortunate.
If they change the whole mainboard then all information that was on the old mainboard will be gone. There is no way after they change the mainboard that they will see if you were rooted or not.

Edit: So you followed an I9000 thread and you flashed another device's ROM onto your bf's device.
You also pulled the battery while it was flashing.
Can you at least get to download mode?
Second Edit: no, you can't, get a usb jig and get ready to have it jtagged.
No need to post again what she said,I read it the 1st time around.

I dunno the specifics of the jig, I assume you followed the thread.
Try this:
One of you must hold the battery (it's almost a 2 man job) while the other presses the download combo (Vol Down + home + power ).
While pressing those buttons the person holding the battery must insert it (at the same time the combo is being hit).
See if it boot into download mode.
If not, start thinking jtag.
Warranty, not an option I presume.

Galaxy S7 brick/bootloop data saving for dummies - need urgent help please

hey there im thomas from switzerland and im new here
i cant post the thread in the specific area due to my newbie status. im sorry
my englisch isnt that good; neither is my knowledge in software engineering. i dont know the specific terms like adbpush/pull, cwm, mount and so on. im not even sure what exactly the difference between rooting and flashing is lol and i have no clue about what a kernel is
so thats gonna be kinda funny. i hope
well my problem i quite easy to explain. my wifes galaxy s7 is bricked/has a boot loop whatever. it powers up, doestn vibrate and shows the samsung logo an stocks from that on. it doesnt reboot automatically. its stuck at this point until the battery dies or i enter the boot mode or bios or how u say to the mode (power, home, volup) and shut it down. when i shut it down manually im able to restart it again and enter the download mode (voldown). simple restarting or wiping cache didnt work.
so u see i already tried to fix it myself within my abilities. i postet my acutal problem in some other forums but i didnt really got helped out and mostly was told to contact the xda developers for professional and patient help.
i dont want to get the phone running again, its display is a little broken and i got a guarantee so i can swap the phone via my provier, so thats not the actual point. the only thing i want to have are the many many pictures which my wife didnt cloudshare or save otherwise.
so what can i exactly do to recover the pictures and videos. ive read as long as i can access the download mode im able to do something, but no one really knows how to.
the device is a standard s7 non rooted, i dont know exactly which android is running on it but i think my wife would have updated the version if the notification would have popped up. so i think its android 6.0 or 6.0.1 or something like that. im pretty sure she didnt enter the development settings to enable usb debugging or something else. its just a standard s7 from a german store. i do not know the exact model number of the phone like (gt-123456) hope these informations are neccessary if not sorry lol
ive read a lot of flashing instructions with lots of terms which ive never heard and cant explain to myself.
so is there probably anyone who would so nice to instruct for dummies how to get my pictures and videos from the phone please? just explain what to do in non-it-professional-words. if ure going to use a term just quickly explain in very few words what is meant by that.
ive read somewhere about an samsung usb driver to install first, but everywhere are only parlty described guides which i just dont understand.
i have downloaded odin3, have an usb cable, the device, a very slow win10 laptop, absolutely no clue of the complete matter but much patience haha
thank you very very very much
thomas
I am not sure that you may or may not get DATA from phone Back. But if you flash with stock rom for now you may able to open phone.
Allow me some time to get instruction and firmware and necessary files. Be patient.

i also read that usb debugging must be enabled, which surely has not been done by my wife.

so the actual question is: what do i have to do now with all these data? try to "flash" with odin3 like in many other descriptions? if it works, does my phone boot as like as nothing ever happened and i can totally use the device again? or is just the bootloader menu extended so that i have to go further steps to get my pictures saved or what?
im sorry, as i said i dont know much about android things like that.
what am i supposed to do now and what exactly is my phone supposed to do afterwards?

Your problem's solution is simple...when u flash ur firmware file (2.1gb) through Odin, it will only clear ur system partition and some other partitions but won't touch ur data portion where ur pics are stored... So just flash ur firmware using Odin ..
well i just flashed the phone, odin worked with success but the s7 is still stuck at the same point. it doesnt boot up.
what else can i do to get to my data? is there any option?
