Hi everyone,
My first foray into android world... and thanks to xda, managed to flash ICS Rom (official 4.0.4, global) on my Neo, root it, get ClockWorkMod installed, unlocked the bootloader, flash custom kernel (Alliance Kernel with OC up to 1.8 Ghz)... the problem is... my sim card is not recognized (can only make "emergency call")...
I tried the following:
- Relock bootloader using .ftf for Xperia phones... phone won't boot with flashed custom kernel
- Reflash stock ICS baseband only... no luck too...
Another problem: on custom kernel, phone won't properly run... stuck at setup screen (either ends in blank screen, or loop through it)... though strangely... on my very first attempt, it was running OK (can use phone normally aside from the "No sim card / emergency call only" problem)...
Quite badly want the 1.8 Ghz OC from Alliance Kernel... but useless if can't use phone to call...
Any help would be much appreciated... Thanks!
Unlock your phone.
Flash the stock ROM.
Then check weather Sim is working or not.
Hope this will work.
Bad news I'm afraid http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=27150656

@svprm: no problem in getting sim to work with stock rom again... but I wanted to get the custom kernel with stock rom... any clue?... or custom rom is the answer I'm looking for?
@mpiekp: it's fine for me... I simply relock the bootloader, reflashed stock rom, re-root, and sim card is usable again... just no custom kernel with OC.
If custom rom with OC built-in the answer I'm looking for?... know a good one for that? (I know there are several, so will give it a try)...
Thanks guys!... any further clue to get stock ICS working with Night Elf's Alliance Kernel would be great...
I had this problem one time.
First i upgraded my baseband to latest version.
Then stock one and then Custom rom.
Try it.

Did you meant, "latest baseband --> stock rom --> custom kernel?"... or simply "latest baseband --> stock rom --> custom rom"... and that will get me an overclocked Neo with SIM/radio/GSM properly working?
Latest one is on this thread?... 72?

Thanks again!
Your device may have got sim lock certificate. Use S1 tool and click restore button. This will remove that certificate.

Thanks for your reply. I'm able to use the sim card with no problem on stock ICS ROM. Only when I flash custom kernel the device says "No sim card"...
That said, I got me S1Tool and connected my Neo (stock rom, stock kernel) to it. Here's the screenshot...
(malware link removed by admin)
So, should I 'Restore' using S1Tool after I have the OC_enabled custom kernel (thus, "no sim card")?... any risk of hard-bricking my phone here?
Thanks again!
Restore won't brick your phone.
Sent from my Xperia Neo V using XDA
Undoubtedly, s1 tool will not brick your phone!! Try it

OK. So, I tried unlocking my bootloader again (using fastboot and official unlock code from Sony)... flash custom kernel (Alliance, with overclock up to 1.8 GHz)... and use S1Tool... unfortunately, clicking 'Restore' said, "There's nothing to restore"... or something like that...
Still can't get a custom kernel to work properly... :-(
Now go back to post three and read that whole thread, if restoring the trim area doesn't fix it you will need a boot repair. Bootloader lock and sim lock are separate, you have no issue on stock because that's what your meant to have, but custom kernel/ rom will lock up.

Guess I'll have to make do with custom rom and kernel then... thanks everyone!

Could you solve your problem?

Hi. I have some doubts about this, I wanna try the last rom by nAa, and it ask for a unlock bootloader and nAa Kernel, my quiestion is: After doing that is there any way for getting back to the original kernel, I mean PC companion will work? and restore it like factory?
Thx!
Don't worry, you can flash anytime back to stock kernel, witch is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1403808
Thnx, but I meant Mini pro u20...
Btw, if I have a Backup with Minicm7 by paul in cwm with stock kernel, if then I flash Naa kernel, if I restore the backup I had, it comes with the stock kernel??
No. CMW backups the ROM and its data. To revert back to stock kernel you just have to DL a stock kernel file from the site and flash it.
And the bootloader re-lock?
What are the benefits for having an unlocked bootloader, using a rom in stock kernel...
If you're using stock kernel and dont plan on using a custom kernel, there's no benefit.
The whole purpose of unlocking BL is to be able to flash a custom kernel. there are pretty whack custom kernels around which, naturally, are better than stock.
So, what are the benefits of using Custom Kernel?
My x10 mini pro is running paul-xxx's miniCM7pro version 17, and the result I got from S1tool were: SEMC SIMLOCK CERTIFICATE (that means I can unlock it right?). My question is can I continue the unlocking process, or do I need to downgrade my phone first to stock firmware?
I'm doing this for my brother so I haven't been much on this sub-forum.
Thanks
I was like you, in the cm7 by paul, I flashed normally with no downgrading....
Just do it...!!

Depends on the kernel you're using. NAa's is the best one out there. Zombie panic is at par with it. Tonnes of features with outstanding speed and stability.
But i guess you're aware of it now
On any castom firmware(miui, CM7) my touchscreen does not work.
On 42/62+castom kernel all work good...
May be anyone can help me? Please...
sory for bad eng...
Does your NEO get some side lights (green/blue) when connected to computer?
If you get green light you can flash using wotan a custom rom and maybe the NEO get live again.
Just plug your phone disconected to the pc pressing back button and start wontan client ( wotanserver.com) and flash it back to normal firmware again.
If Neo starts it was just a matter of drivers, if not search your service in your area that maybe your Neo screen is dead.
no...phone work good on stock 42 and 62! but when I flash CM touch does not work, I flash miui, it does not work, I flash stock 42-all work well)
flash CM again...does not work...now I on stock, but wont CM)
help plz)
Have you tried downloading the custom roms again ? they may have been corrupted in the download.
I've tested some time ago CM7 with bootloader locked and found same issue because the lack of custom kernel. So, do you have flashed CM7/MIUI included custom kernel? Touchscreen, and a lot of other things, doesn't work without it.

I personally haven't flashed any custom roms because I can't unlock my bootloader but from what I have read I think a custom kernel is the answer.

Hi,
kernel is the main system core of every LINUX or UNIX system, even on Android (its something like non.consistent linux...) which controlls the whole hardware available on system - e.g. display, processor, memory, wifi and bt and so on.
As you wrote, your system has stock kernel - standart delivered from SE.
You can use any kernels from XDA for X10i, there are not so much differences between them. The main thing is the CPU governors. Stock kernel doesnt have good CPU governor (called "ondemand"), so it drains battery all the time. Thats the one thing related to kernel. There are also some optimalizations and so on like undervolting, possibility to load external harware support drivers an a lot of other stuff.
But for begginner, you would probably appreciate only the CPU governors, because of battery life.

I hear doom kernel is good, but it has wifi problems, especially with the latest version. Which kernel would you recommend?
Try doomkernel or zKernel, but u must know that some kernels are for locked and some for unlocked bootloader. U have doom for both.

Yes, I am also running DoomKernel
I am using 2.6.29-modFXP-DooMKernel-v04b; could recommend it. And wifi works great (using it often, dont want 3G data plan).
As was told - depends if you are on locked or unlocked bootloader; but locked doesnt matter I have it also for to be completely save

I don't know if I have locked or unlocked bootloader. ^.^
How do I check?
Also if I install any of these custom kernels, would I be able to restore the original SE kernel if needed?
U can check it with s1tool, find it on this thread (step for unlocking bootloader). And yes, u can return ur stock kernel, with flashtool. All info u can find on this thread:

If you havent done bootloader unlock, you have locked bootloader Or test as described above
And yes, if you will install any custom kernel you are still able to load original kernel from SE. In case you will delete locked bootloader image; the stock kernel will load instead. This is on locked bootloader, dont know if this also on locked kernels.
No, DoomKernel doesn't have WiFi problems...I think you said it because once you have DoomKernel installed on your phone, you must flash and adittional file using Flashtool that is called Wifi Module, and everything will be fine again..

Personally I havent used Feralab ROMs, but on other ones I didnt have any problems.
You dont need to backup stock kernel, it cant be erased (only after bootloader unlock).
If you will find any problems, we or I will surely help you
Yap, on locked BL u can't erase stock kernel, u don't need to backup.

Flashing Kernel
I am a total newbie and have rooted my x10 and unlocked its bootloader. But now I want to use custom roms but do not know how to flash a custom kernel. Can you guide to a thread which can show step by step guide on flashing custom kernel???
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I guess that you can find a complete tutorial on FlashTools topic under the complete FlashTool guide.
Long story short:
1 Install Flashtool and put desired kernel file inside the firmware folder (which is located inside flashtool folder)
2 Connect phone with unknown sources and USB debugging checked on and check if its recognized
3 Click the flash button (the one with the little thunder), select the kernel file
4 Follow FlashTools instructions (it will show up after you select the files and hit ok)
5 ??????
6 Profit

That additional file called WIFI module or WIFI fix must be flashed via Xrecovery, because it's a zip file. With Flashtool you flash just FTF files (FlashTool File).
Doomkernel (V06) are good, Ferakernel also, ThJap th n5-1... This are kernels for Stock based Roms.
For non-Stock based Roms, like CM 7.2 AND CM9.1 based Roms, you must use kernels which are based on that Roms (FXP kernel, Amin kernel...)
That rom that you were flashed (Donut 2.2.9) is one of the best Stock based Rom. You can use Doomkernel v.06 with medium OC (Overclock) 1113 Mhz. First download Doomkernel on PC, and put that file in Flashtool/firmware folder. Than download WIFI module for that kernel and put on SD card of your phone(every kernel have specific wifi module). Flash kernel via Flashtool, when finished, reboot into Xrecovery ( when you power up your phone and blue led lights up, keep pressing Back button on your phone). Choose Install custom zip, than find your downloaded Wifi module and choose to install. After that, choose Reboot option in Xrecovery and enjoy...

Hi everyone!
I'm tired using custom roms for their instability and fc's everywhere for over a year I didnt found Rom that works perfect all the time with many apps installed so I just want to my phone work, dont want to flash new system every month again.
I was running stock with deleted apps, Set Cpu (tnx to gregbradley (edit: that was neoxx3m very good advidce, sorry my bad) and z-kernel for about 4 months and I was happy, that was one and only Rom that i've used so long. Yes it wasnt so fast but it was very stable and everything works so nice not even one fc. (kindda wierd couse ive installed z-kerner on my Unlocked BL x10 and now I can't and dont wanna to play and relock)
So i wanna repair my phone and get back to stock, root it, delete all uneeded apps and flash the most stable kernel so will it be failsafe from doom right?
And the question is will my plan work? I know that phone will not be so fast but will everything work and this is all I need or maybe someone has better idea?
Also have some questions about the newest fw for this Doom UB kernel. Where do i get this newest se fw?
Any help will be very appriciated.
Restore the phone back to stock using SEUS. That should do the trick
