ICS Confirmed by the end of the month: - Motorola Droid RAZR

Hey everyone. It seems that our friends at CNET have some more information for us - hopefully a bit more valid than the last info they gave us:
http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105...nfirms-android-4.0-for-droid-razr-on-the-way/
I too got this text message saying that my phone will soon be upgraded to Android 4.0. I also received an update for my MotoCast software from v1.2.9 to v2.0.19... coincidence? I think not.
http://screencast.com/t/eUT02Xll7oO
Thoughts?
Also, according to https://forums.motorola.com/pages/00add97d6c (Motorola's upgrade chart)
They started rolling out the ICS update for the Xoom with WIFI AND 3G now instead of JUST the wifi one. This means that now they should be focusing solely on the RAZR/RAZR MAXX.
Let's hope for ICS soon!

Have no thoughts, every confirm will be a lie.

That article only "confirms" its coming not that it will be here by the end of the month, there is no official date and on the MOTO page now updated 2 days ago (and 9 days AFTER ICS began pushing to XOOM 3G) we are still listed as PHASE 2 development and have yet to move to PHASE 3 testing.

I have learned from the past that the only confirmation I will believe at all, is one from Verizon, Motorola, etc DIRECTLY. I just have no faith in outside sources.

Believe to motorola's source?
Your learning was a waste of time m

I tend to believe official press releases on confirmed dates.

What the actual **** is going on in this forum?
Why is everyone so impatient, I'm from the Optimus 2x xda forum (just read, didn't post) because I owned one before I got my razr. Over there, nobody cares about the official update because everybody knows that LG will fail (again) to update in the near future.
You guys should consider doing that too, one day Motorola will eventually release the OTA ICS update and you can get it.
If you get excited about something, you want it so bad that you get disappointed when the expectations don't become true.
So just relax and wait. On my razr, GB runs really smooth (smoothest android I saw ever on a phone, even the Nexus of a friend of mine had serious and annoying bugs), so don't get so upset about it.
Just my 2 cents

I got the message from verizon that my phone will receive Android 4.04 very soon!

Thats what I keep hearing... I suppose I can just do that. Iv been samsung, htc... now moto... this entire thing is new to me now. No need for root right? Im on stock .181 never messed with anything sooooooo just follow the below steps?
- PUT THE UPDATE FILE ON YOUR EXTERNAL SD CARD FIRST.
You will not be able to use your RAZR to put the files on the SD card after you begin. Please do so beforehand.
- Turn on USB Debugging (pull down the notification panel, tap the wrench, go all of the way down to developer options, tap that, then make sure USB debugging is checked).
- Open the Droid Razr Utility 1.6 Modified .bat file.
- Press any button after ADB starts up. Then type in 15 and press enter, and follow the onscreen instructions to reboot into AP Fastboot (bootloader).
- Return to the main menu.
- Type 1 and press enter twice.
- Follow the onscreen instructions to Fastboot to .181 using Modified Droid RAZR Utility to make sure you're completely stock and the update will go through.
- Turn your phone off.
- Turn your phone back on, holding VOL UP + VOL DWN.
- Use VOL DWN to go down to "Recovery", and then VOL UP to select it.
- Press VOL UP+VOL DWN to bring up the recovery menu once an image pops up after the rebooted phone's Motorola logo.
- Use VOL UP+VOL DWN to navigate to "apply update from external storage", then press PWR.
- Use VOL UP+VOL DWN to navigate to the update file (named BlurVersion____________ unless you changed it.), then press PWR.
- You should get no errors, and the phone should install the update successfully. Congrats, you're on ICS!
- I recommend factory resetting here to be safe, but you don't have to.
- Use VOL UP+VOL DWN to navigate to "reboot phone", then press PWR to leave recovery.
- Reroot if you want, using the guide at the bottom of the post.
Is this all I need to do? I knowwwww its all over xda if I search... but while im asking things I might as well just ask here to save some time for myself. When the OTA does come sometime eventually soon.... What needs to be done to get the phone to take the OTA update?
Thanks guys... and Im liking the moto community

At this point, I would just wait. OTA seems to be around the corner.

I don't even believe in motorola.

Do not try to anticipate the update. That is impossible. Instead try to realize the truth. There is no Motorola.

Is 6.11.903 next ota?

I just got back from the Verizon store trying to swap out my razr since the audio port is broken. CS told me I was on old software and that is probably the reason why port is not working. I assure him I was on the latest. He show me the store version build number. I told him go to software update on my phone and there would be no update notification. In the end, I won and they are shipping me a new replacement since they are out of stock. I took picture of store display Razr. Is the next OTA since the store has it?

That is a leaked update. This Razr has potential still.
@OP is there a way you could do us a favor?
Turn Off the phone
Hold the Volume buttons + power to load up the Moto Recovery black/white screen
Hit volume Down to move the selection down to AP Fastboot, select it with Up.
Tell us everything it says on that screen. Especially the Status Code and whether it says Locked or Unlocked.

I'm to receive mine in same situation from Brazilian Motorola support. I heard from folks at support store in my city that Brazilian Moto isn't fixing any devices. So, I'll probably receive a new one by 03.02 with a new software, as they told me. I was in 2.3.5 vivo.BR ROM. Hope something new arrives here. If happens you'll know about it. :d
@OP
If you could also provide the Build Date that would be useful info as well

It was the display phone in the store. I don't think he brought it home
The picture was from a display phone in the Verizon store. I check all the display and all the phone was on 6.11.903.I could go back. Tell me what I have to do and I will take more pictures if I go back. I went to the Verizon store at 6800 Charlotte Pike, Nashville, TN 37209
It seems weird the display phone get a newer version than us. Verizon must have approve it.

I've only been here for a little while but a majority of noobs that register here with the specific intent to fix a brick do so because they dl'ed and flashed crap from zedomax and/or galaxys2root.
Did what you flashed have boot loaders? I'd almost say no but who knows. If it did you have to flash a stock Rom with i777 boot loaders. Use Odin. There are plenty of resources here to help, take a look around and have patience. Good . Luck.

@yupitzfreddy,
We can help you out, but you need to post some detailed information. You seemed to be in a hurry at first, but you havn't posted anything in a couple of hours.
You need to get the phone into download mode. With the phone turned off, and your original phone usb cable plugged into your computer, plug the cable into your phone while holding down both vol- and vol+ (but not power). Then press vol+ to enter the download screen. Does that get you into download mode? What does your flash counter, the text at the top of the screen say? You can turn the phone back off by holding the power button for a few minutes.
Let us know how you're doing.

yupitzfreddy, if you're still out there, follow creepyncrawly's advice and post as much detail as you can.

MIUI Failure

I have TWRP installed on my LGOG e970, with bootloader unlocked.
I [very recklessly] tried to install MIUI on my phone. TWRP didn't say "Failed" or anything of the sort when it was applied. It said everything went smoothly. I rebooted the system and now the phone won't even boot back into bootloader. If I try to hold the volume up + power button for more than 10 seconds, it starts flashing the power button consistently, but it stops when I let go of the buttons. Computer won't recognize it and I can't get it into Download Mode.
Any help?
Knowing what MIUI ROM you tried to install could possible help. Not that I will be able to though.

If you plug phone into charger, does power button flash rapidly. If so you need to disconnect battery.

no. the phone literally does nothing until i hold the power button [i've found that it's just the power button; volume buttons dont really matter] for more than 10 seconds.

Yeah it wouldn't have even come close to working. Unfortunately, it must have done some serious re-mapping to your partitions. Since you can't get into download mode, there is no chance of LGNPST to stock. Maybe someone in IRC knows a trick but it looks like your phone is toast. Try to get LG to do a warranty replacement. Just say it stopped working.

Can flashing something in recovery actually remap the partitions?

You can't fix stupid. Sorry, but there's no other way to put it. Phones are pretty hard to completly brick from what I've been told, but I still use caution every time I tinker with the underlying software. Then there's this guy.
The guy is freaking retarded. I don't care how much flak I catch for this statement, but fu**nuggets like this guy are the biggest reason carriers and manufacturers try to keep us from rooting and flashing ROMs (right behind free tethering anyway lol).

I really don't get how he openly admits to flashing a completely wrong ROM. Like how do you manage to unlock, root, install TWRP, find MIUI, and flash it, but have no idea it's bad. The rom he flashed is over 6 months old too, and he just though everything "would magically work." He even works for AT&T you've got to be kidding me.

lol you guys are funny. i've been rooting, jailbreaking, unlocking and developing for 6 years; it's not like i dont know what i'm doing. i figured it'd brick it, but not this bad. you can almost ALWAYS fix a brick. i was just seeing if anyone knows of a solution, since it's a fairly new phone and even newer to me. if you dont push your limits, you dont know how far the phone can go. simple as that. working for at&t has no relevance; there are some technology-stupid reps out there.

[Q] Rooting & Flashing Question

I'm going to flash my TB to PagePlus but was waiting until the all-in-one tool is available, hopefully next week. The guy I bought the phone off accepted the OTA ICS update.
If I flash the phone to Pageplus first and then do the root after, does anyone know if rooting will screw up the flashing? I don't think it will but thought I'd ask YOU experts!
Thanks
Probably should root first just in case

As long as you don't mess with any radios, I'd assume.

Everything I read says its due to the HA/AAA keys. Without them, you can't authenticate. I've got voice/data/txt working with or without a SIM card. It doesn't seem to care except for the NAG message.

I put "vzw" in the secrets like I was directed. However...there were 32 digit HEX Keys in the fields already. Unfortunately I had no data...even with them. Should I put them back?
I don't have anything in those fields and mine is stock.

I'd put them back and try again. Try leaving the SIM out also. I have an AT&T SIM in mine and I get at least 1x data.
Enter Secrets..
I replaced my 4g Card with an older At&T sim, and put the Secrets in. Still no data. I have screenshots of my settings. If you'll give me some place to send them, I really need this data.

This is a very good guide and its pretty much the same thing for the TB. Ignore the MSL crap that is apparently unique to the EVO.

I've done SO many changes to this phones info...I'm afraid I've done more HARM than GOOD..LOL.
SO MANY CHANGES!
I still have talk and text, but NO DATA! I have HA and AAA Secrets...PPP passwords...and still....no data. Is there anyway to completey restore the data I've changed? I already no Factory resets and Data wipes don't do it...
I flashed to Page Plus, then rooted, then update radio to ICS. Gonna pop and ICS rom in a minute. No problems so far.

Thanks

rampart51 what did you end up doing? Did flash first, root second work? I currently have an ICS 4.0.4 that has been flashed to PP. I want to root it so that I can uninstall verizon crap like Slacker Radio and Tune Wiki.

To be honest....I haven't done it yet. Been too busy and the All in one tool looks like it may have a few issues.....I'm gonna wait it out. I have been on PP for a few weeks now. No issues. No 3g but I don't really need it.
I flashed to Page Plus months ago and I love it... I get the same thing as I had with verizon but I pay $29 instead of $89 a month. I had a company called beigephone.com flash my phone for $50 because I didn't have time to figure it out myself. my 3g works perfectly though, so if your 3g doesn't work maybe your settings need to be fixed. did you flash it for Page Plus yourself? I'd actually like to learn how to do it, especially if it can be done without using CDMA WS.
I just used the all-in-one tool + revolutionary to root a different thunderbolt that was still on gingerbread (2.11.605.19). The only hiccup was that I had to remove/re-install the HTC drivers twice (solution here).
Please let me know if you decide to try it out on your ICS thunderbolt!

Root & recovery..

I just got my ZenFone AR a few days ago and must say I am very impressed. I'm not sure what kind of traction this phone will get because of its high price and the fact that Asus phones are really not too much of popular mainstream products compared to other brands.
But the overall visual hardware specs (native 23MP stills with Sony's new IMX318 sensor and capable of up to 92MP stacked super-resolution still photos), 8GB RAM and AR capabilities of this hardware is absolutely unmatched at this point in time.
This is a very special product, by far the most exciting phone I've seen rolling out this year! I'm working on a full review of the phone and will post it soon along with photo samples at full resolution.
I'd hope to see people joining into getting root and a recovery for this. Ready to contribute to the development and getting things cookin' asap

You'll never see root if you're on VZW, but I'm shocked no one has unlocked any other variant yet

I assume that this means it is not unlockable via fastboot. If so, that is going to be up to Asus. I don't think anyone is likely to work on hacking it unless it becomes much more popular. Asus does have a fairly good record of releasing an unlock tool after the device has been available for some time.
You could ask them if they are going to release an unlock tool.

It's not unlockable because of Verizon. Verizon has locked bootloaders on all their newest devices this year. Asus has nothing to do with it if you're on Verizon.

That was in response to the comment: I can't believe no one has unlocked any other variant. Verizon is Verizon.

Verizon has been locking down there phone for years. But if you take a lil time and look through the forms , some of them have root anyway the pixel and pixel xl and Samsung galaxy s8+ have root . It's all up to how much the development community want to mess with said phone. Not saying our ZenFone ar on Verizon will get root but it could.

I'll keep my fingers crossed but some good phones never got root, either, like the Moto Z Force, for one. I hope so just so I Can edit my mixer_paths and maybe actually hear the person I'm talking to on the phone

It would be awesome to know how to put the Verizon variant into recovery mode using the button combos as I have tried everything suggested with fail at every turn.

No, but mine froze up today, completely. For hours it would do nothing except occasionally the captive buttons would like up. I was freaking out, but I found out, hold power and vol down and it did a hard reboot and was fine.

You can get to fastboot mode by powering off the device then press volume down and power at the same time. If you need to clear cache you have to have sdk installed on your PC or the quick install ADB. open command prompt on your pc by pressing shift + right click type: fastboot devices when it comes back with your device type: fastboot oem reboot-recovery just like that. it will reboot to recovery then you can clear cache. Thank you.

Oh yeah, duh. Since this is the first Android I've ever had that was not rooted I didn't even consider using ADB. LOL

corona63976, thanks a lot for the info! Right on!!!
Been poking around ASUS website. Found that they've posted kernel source and firmware. Not sure what the differences would be from the WW to Verizon modded one. Also stumbled upon an APK from ASUS for another Zenphone that said it was to unlock phones Android MM and Android N. Tried to install APK. It wouldn't install due to it or another version being installed...? App won't let upload screenshot here's link

I did some more looking around and it seems the ULT uses a CPU key from device to unlock. I'm wonder if the app could be modified to work... Until or if ASUS releases one for the AR. Running through system process saw that it has root detect service. SafetyNet I think. And wonder if that would cause an issue in the process of getting unlocked boot loader or root. Probably not since Knox is able to be bypassed. Have gotten hotspot and tether going without root. But that's not the reason I want root. Miss having/using Cynogen and Nethunter on phone. Without root it's useless. I have a few more days left to exchange. Still trying to figure if I want keep it and hope for root. Or go back to Notes since the 8 is out... Feel like on the Samsung side they'll make some type of progress. Sooner rather than later...
bricked
Hello everyone.
Today I installed an official OTA update for my brand new ZenFoneAR over the notification bar. Unfortunately the device ended up in a boot loop. I could switch it off and I can access the bootloader with power+volume up. Unfortunately selecting the Recovery mode also leads to a reboot. The three days old, 1000$ phone is essentially bricked.:crying:
I believe I could flash recovery via fastboot if I had a stock recovery image. On the Asus website* I have found some firmware images (zip files) but none of them contains a recovery.img file.
Is there any way to get hold of a stock recovery.img? I don't have a "Verizon" phone (bought it in Switzerland) but it still says "DEVICE STATE - locked" in the bootloader menu...

Given that you didn't modify the phone and installed an ota, why not just rma it?

Yes, I will certainly do that when there is no way to fix it myself. However I can't do a return on the weekend and I'm not keen on waiting for weeks for a replacement either.
Meanwhile I have found out how to create a system.img from the OTA update on the Asus website using sdat2img.py. Unfortunately this can't be flashed via fastboot onto a locked phone. The ZIP also contains images for boot, asusfw, mdtp and splash but sadly no recovery.
