Has rooting or unlocking increased battery life? - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

I know there are no custom kernals not yet available but is there anyone who has seen a increase in battery just off of deleting bloat apps or a Rom change
Sent from my EVO using xda premium

a rom can give u better battery life.. rooting or unlocking the bootloader does not effect the battery.. im rocking viper rom with dual core mod and im geting better battery life than i was with stock.. i was geting good battery life with stock but im geting even better now..

For what its worth, i'm currently at 1d 11h 35m with 30% battery left on Viper ROM with my normal use.
I rooted the day after I received my new evo. However, I'm pretty sure on day 1/pre-root, I was excited to see 30% battery left after about 12-13hours.
Roms make the difference and so far are making a bigger difference on the LTE than compared to anything I ever achieved on the original Evo.

Nope same battery life for me...

This is a good thread. I've been wondering the same thing. I lurk the ROM threads all day and night, but still haven't flashed a ROM just because I'm getting such insane battery life on stock ROM I'm afraid to screw that up.
Sure looking forward to jumping off this odexed ROM, though. I may still just wait it out til AOKP is functional. (No matter what you do to sense, it's still sense )

Check this ROM out.
Im using it and feel its doing pretty well for battery life.

Yeah, been watching flexs ROM. In fact, I think I DLd it last night lol

Well, rooting itself does not enhance battery life but you CAN underclock the stock kernel which WILL enhance battery life.

Do you regret voiding your warrenty though I'm just so hesitant to do that Ive unlocked bootloaders before but since there really was no way for them to know it was unlocked after relocking it was ok

uhhh, ViperROM is senseless. It says it in the thread title.
edit: oops, I was thinking of VirusROM. sorry
Actually they both have Sense and Senseless roms. So, which are you referring to?
Most likely you are asking about Sense based roms.
I have ran both and currently am sticking with Nightly builds of Synergy. I just love the speed. And, my internet speeds on 3g, 4g, and wifi are all extremely faster with Synergy.

I'm definitely referring to the Sense roms. Didn't even know Viper and Synergy had Senseless versions.
They both sense, for battery life stability Viper all the way for more speed and nice Transitions Sinergy

These are the only two that I have flashed thus far and I have been able to try these out for about three days each now and haven't noticed anything very different between the two... The phone is still really fast regardless of which I have installed and the battery life is disappointing (~ 9-10 hours) compared to stock (~13-16 hours). I think I will flash something else and maybe come back to these two at some point to see if anything has improved.

Ummm, try Showdown 1.0.
I like viper over synergy, more stability and I like his oc daemon script. Showdown is nice and very esthetically pleasing and its snappy but it lacks full stability Imo as well. Hope that helps.
So far every rom has given me around 10 hours of battery with moderate use if I don't play stuff like order and chaos all day.

No I got better battery life before I rooted and romed too. Strange right? I don't mind the lesser battery life though since I get better performance and features. 10 hours is still a full day and that's with Pandora going all day, texts and emails

I loved Viper, will go back to it once I'm finished playing with CM9.
I got better than 15 hours on my newest 3D. But I don't charge half charged batteries or let my phone go completely dead before charging either. I'm really old school when it comes to rechargeable batteries.

[Q] whats The best Evo 3d CDMA rom?

Hello xda!
ive just upgraded from the evo shift to a evo 3d i unlocked the hboot 1.5
i know that i have to use fastboot to flash roms/kernels
im just wondering what everyones best setup is?im looking for something with good battery life and alot of tweaks.I dont really really care for eye candy or themes lol they would be nice but i noticed the themed roms ive tried have bad battery drain.ive tried pretty all of the recent ones on xda but im wondering if there are any older ones or something that are stable and have tweaks with good battery life?
let me know what you guys use as a everyday rom
im tired off always flashing new roms lol
Scrosler's CleanRom if you like your stock rom, but want a few enhancements, cleaned up, and much better battery life.
Do what I did, flash all of em and find ure fav

ViperRom by far. Super fast, stable, and smooth and has every mod you could want out of a sense rom minus beats. (but who really cares)
I prefer Virus' "infectedROM Eternity™" best one I've used so far... (love Cyanogenmod, too)
Deck's 1.0 for compatibility and battery life. Synergy for blazing speed and near stock feel.

i tried synergy but it went from 58% too 34% WHILE I WAS ASLEEP this is what i meant ive tried alot of roms and most of them dont sleep!!!
oh yeah and i know what u mean about the beats lol its just a little eq u need
I've tested almost all of them, and I'd have to recommend either InfectedROM Eternity or Warm TwoPointThree. Those two offer the best stability and speed without sacrificing battery life.
Or do like others have and spend some time testing all of them.

you can't go wrong with either warm 2.3, eternity, or clean rom. I jump between those 3 roms. if you are looking to overclock I suggest mwalt2's bcblend however I personally run with the stock kernal as my daily. my phone is the in house dj at my work so run pandora all day long connected to wifi. I average between 12-16 hours of battery.

Mean Rom ICS vs. Viper Redline ICS

I'm trying to figure it out which ICS rom to flash based on battery life and I've narrowed it down to Mean Rom ICS and Viper Redline ICS, and I was wondering if anyone would mind posting pics of the battery times.
MEAN ICS v2.0
I'm currently running MR ICS 2.0 and I'm getting pretty decent batter life. I'll have a screen shot in the morning as I haven't actually measured so I'll do an overnight test and have the screenshot up in the AM. I haven't tried the ViperROm though.
I use MR also. Pretty decient useage and i get a solid 15 hours out of it. I tried Vipers ICS in the beginning and was getting about the same. Im not sure what he has changed since the first release. I would post a pic but i just switched back to a gingerbread Rom. ICS to me has some bugs and GB i was getting better battery life and faster performance.
Hope this helps

I went from Viper to MeanRom and never looked back. Even using Viper's CPU Control I still don't get the battery life that I do from Mean. Not to mention Mikey is focused on one sole device and Viperboy's attention is divided by at least two (3D and 4GLTE) maybe more I don't go to all the forums. Also, I use gps a lot my phone (Hardware Ver 2) runs a lot cooler with Mean then Viper when using the gps for hours upon hours. I've even used it for a 14 hour singe day drive once the screen was never off (I did use a car charger of course lol)
MeanROM.
Thanks!

Or it could be what he has on his Screen. For Example he could have an alternative Launcher with one homescreen and a clock widget. And also i heard that if you use a regular black wallpaper it could save you quite amount of power. So maybe could throw in a Black Wallpaper in there.

Performance wise: just pure amazing.
Development: Excellent! New Roms and updates almost daily.
Battery wise: Crap. Unless you buy an extended battery, your looking at up to 1:30 hours of screen on time. Compared to other phones that have 3 hours.

ymmv with the battery life. i've seen plenty of people with really good battery life reports on aosp (cm9 or cm10). getting anywhere from 3-4 hours screen on with the standard battery. obviously not the 6 hours your getting on your inc, but its to be expected with a better screen and a bigger screen.

I'm running mean horsey face job ROM I'm at 90% battery with 1 hour 10 min screen on time. I was playing bejeweled for a while. The new jb ROMs seem to be pretty amazing on battery life. I do run an extended battery though.
I have a stock battery (with water damage) running my jb build and although I don't have the stats on hand but I tinker around online all day and I don't have to worry about battery until about 8-9 pm running from 7:30 am
Great devoloping phone
I'd have to say if you are used to geting your hands dirty this is a great phone to mess around with. Certain things are tricky to learn like the S-Off trick. The batery life and speed on this phone is great. I've used almost every rom for this and the 2 roms that ive met that meet my requirements for now are Viper Rez 1.0.3 and jelybean ┬─┬ ノ( ^_^ノ) rom. I prefer to use the Amon Ra Recovery and nandroid backup and restore is my bestfriend when switching my roms out. The best thing i've learned though is how to use the kitchen and theming for any device ive owned.
I'm pretty familiar with the Kitchen but what so do I need to upload? For CM7 I just pulled the apk theme and uses that. CM10 you need framework Res? What else

Don't be fooled by the optimism of these guys. There is currently no AOSP variant that is fully functional. CM9 is closer than 10, but there are still things that don't fully work. If you want everything to work as it should, you will need a Sense 3.6 rom and battery life will not be very good. The awesome screen on this phone drains a battery very quickly. We do have some great devs working on both Sense and AOSP, but they can't really make the screen more efficient.

well, what exactly, outside of bluetooth calling isn't fully functioning on aosp? afaik, nothing. and even on sense 3.6 roms, there are plenty of very optimized roms with some awesome kernels that can actually give you pretty good battery life.

You just made my point. If everything doesn't work, then it is not fully functional. As for battery life, it will always be personal opinion as to what is "good", but I don't consider 2-2.5 hours screen on time to be good (and that is what I have seen reported more often than not).
Don't get me wrong, I do think the Rez is a good phone, but it isn't great, and I probably wouldn't spend $200 to get one right now. I was lucky enough to get mine for $50 back when they had it on special and still kept my unlimited.
Well I avg 2.5 hrs screen time stock battery on 4g on and sync and data for everything and over 4 on the OEM extended. Doesn't matter if I run aosp or sense or jb.
To the op, I very much enjoy my rezound and after having many phones on Verizon the rezound is still a fantastic device. However I would strongly suggest soff, amon ra, and multiple stock batteries with a wall/dock for them if you want to keep it slim. Camera is top notch. I run a sense 4 Rom currently and couldn't be happier. It's development is growing due to committed devs. I get battery battery life on my stock rezound battery and sense 4 or aosp that any Rom I had on my vzw nexus. Consistently. The screen is beautiful. Signal is always strong. Soff wil allow you to test many many combinations until you find something you like.

Battery Plus is my favorite ROM, fast, responsive and have yet to have any issues. average of 10 hours of battery life
currently on the hatka Rom (just flashed yesterday) so i can vouch for it being really nice and battery efficient. plus i love the transparent pulldown and app drawer on it.
Viper DNA just dropped today. I was on the beta testing team and not only is the ROM incredible, but I was getting improved battery life on it as compared to stock and UKB.
If u like a customizable Rom and tweaks and a lot of other things viper rom is the one for u. Me I'm on it I too was apart of the beta team and I will say viper is the sheit
