Since I can't post in the dev forum, I need someone to help. I run driver.exe, then run thunderbolttool.bat
I get "Waiting for Device Connection"
Can someone tell me what's wrong?

Is USB debugging enabled? Maybe try disabling it and re-enabling it
If so, maybe try a different USB cable and/or port
another problem with thunderbolt tool
I'm working on a buddies Thunderbolt, and ran into trouble
Ok I downloaded tool,
extracted it,
ran driver,
ran bat,
then all seemed good untill it hung at waiting for fastboot the second time where moar is mispelled. phone is on the fastboot page
when you rerun it it shows revolutionary, and s off, but if you try to flash cwm it gets to waiting on fastboot and hangs up.
installed superuser from market
try to install busybox and get an error su not found in either of two locations.
installed rom manager from market, but nothing works because cw recovery apparently not installed.
anytime you boot into recovery get a ted triangle with exclamation point.
any good ideas??
refresh my memory of adb process, its been long time since I used it
will factory reset work or will it brick the phone because of the recovery issue??
I realize this is prolly a simple issue to put a missing file into the correct location manually, or with adb, but we have gone above my unassisted pay grade.
any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Dan

Moar is spelled like that on purpose haha
But just reboot the phone and run "S-OFF but no root?" in the extras menu.

Did you ever get help with this? My phone is doing the same thing. Starts ADB and then displays the "Waiting for device connection"
message.
Anybody have an idea what I'm doing wrong?
Phone has usb debugging on and Stay Awake is on.
When it connects, my PC tells me it sees the usb device, etc. but something is still amiss....
TIA
Did you install the fastboot drivers? Also try running adb devices to make sure it recognizes its connected. I didn't get the luxury of the all in one tool when I rooted so I ended up have to root by inputting all the lines in manually to make the revolutionary tool work. It was good practice with adb though.

My buddy has a Thunderbolt that froze and so he tried flashing another rom but came across a huge issue. He tried wiping data, cache, dalvik-cache, and system (I think this is where he messed up) and when he tried flashing the new rom, it kept aborting installation. After that his recovery kept showing a log error where it couldn't mount recovery logs and also it wouldn't mount system or cache. The recovery seemed damaged at that point, so he went into HBOOT and tried flashing some stock rom through it, I guess it didn't go well because it gave an error and said something about the installed version being lower, not really sure. Now it won't even boot into recovery. Oh and here's the worst part, S-ON.. he doesn't know how to mess around with Androids, he asked if I could fix it for him. Any help would be appreciated, I know the phone was a gift for his fiance and I feel bad, I wanna help before they send it back to HTC.

I just updated my phone through wifi, somekind of system update i guess.. but after i've updated it and restartet it, it just freezes at the 'hero' screen (infinit loop boot maybe?) i just got the phone (used though) the only thing i can do is go into the fastboot screen, but i dont really know what to do now.. i've done various things to try to get further but the only difference have been that i've seen a screen showing a phone with a red triangle with an ! in it..
I normally never waste other peoples time with these problems, but this is ****ing annoying, if anyone could help me.. i would really appreciate it...
The phone isn't flashed just original rom..
Was it rooted before the update? This kind of thing happend to me with a Desire. I he'd done an ota update after root and got infinite boot loop.
The only thing to do, was to flash original ruu. I guess you should do so. Just search the forum for Hero RUUs. I'm sure you'll find.

But thanks for the reply just needed to know what to do ^^

going to try it now, found the ruu's you were talking about, if you got time afterwards would you help me to root it? would be nice, still thanks for the help though
dammit seemes like i've been here before... i've tried doing it with no success, like i said i can only go into fastboot usb mode.. it locks at the 'hero' screen so cant get into the OS to get the original ROM reinstalled :S
If you've got the latest ruu, then going to fastboot is enough. You must open fastboot, connect usb and run the exe. It's the only way.

it can't find my phone.. i've read some threads about some people having the same problem running window 7 x64, i figure it might be because i didn't install any drivers for the phone before, only used it through usb to recharge and usb stick.. but i've tried downloading the ADB software etc. still nothing.
It is a driver problem. Download latest htc sync. It has all the drivers. Helped in my case.
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
awesome thanks, going to try it now
boot into recovery, do hard reset (this would erase every thing though)
and you need help to root? what is the version of your software?
it's still not working i'm getting [170] error... so i've searched for this problem and found some different methods to figure out what to do now, the weird thing is that in cmd when i type "fastboot devices"... it finds my device, that i already knew.. BUT when i type "adb devices" it just writes "List of devices attached" = nothing.. absolutly nothing.. soo guess i'll just have to figure out how to do next now..
how do i do that? explain it like i'm a moron ^^
well did it, still infinit loop :S
i really REALLY dont hope this ends up with me getting a crappy iphone instead..
now i know that it only get into something called cleanstorage.. not the recovery mode...
Wait. What have you done exactly? You don't need neither recovery, nor adb.
Adb won't see your device, because there's no working os on it. You just neet 2 things that will repair the phone. Htc sync and latest RUU EXE file. If you have htc sync, turn the phone into fastboot, plug usb cable and you will see 'fastboot usb plug' on the phone. Now open 'device manager' on pc (right click on Computer>properties>device manager o the left panel). If the drivers are ready, there will be 'Android>my htc'. If not, look on the taskbar near the clock. There mite be some mooving icon saying 'installing driver softwere' or something like that. Wate for some time. I wated about a minute till it said 'device is ready'.
Whet drivers are ready, run the RUU exe file. Say 'yes' to everything and don't touch the phone. It should do th job.
Try this steps and tell what happened.
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
Oh and don't forget to hard reset. It is the 'clean storage'.
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
dude i've done everything that you've said before, and now i did it again it doesn't work.. i still get the ERROR [170] USB-CONNECTIONERROR..
- if this makes any difference, for me it isn't called 'my htc' - it's 'ADB Interface' > 'HTC Bootloader'
- i've installed the ADB **** that didn't work, then uninstalled the driver, then downloaded the 'HTC Sync' and installed it, so it is the driver from 'HTC Sync'
i've might have found both the problem and solution now
okaay, it's a driver problem, now im trying it on my laptop, it then got to ERROR [131] instead xD haah well a bit progress is better than no progress at all..

Okay, here is my problem. First off I am stuck at the HTC quietly brilliant boot screen after I successfully unlocked the bootloader. Then I tried to root the device with rootbootv5 and as i was following the instructions it was trying to backup the phone and got stuck "waiting for the device". Now my computer does not recognize the phone and when i try to factory reset it just goes back to being stuck.
Also when I go into HBOOT it is stuck "checking SD card update" until i unplug the usb cord. When entering recover from HBOOT it just goes to a triangle with a exclamation mark.. This is a AT&T phone if that matters as I have already done some research and it seems it might.. Just got this awesome phone today and I would like to fix this problem if anyone could help I would appreciate it.

I am almost positive "rootboot" is not for the AT&T phone. Even if it is I would strongly suggest avoiding it. Try relocking the bootloader and running the RUU
Forgot to mention
Forgot to mention after the other actions I tried to use X-Factor to root the device and it said something to the extent that maybe adb was out of date and something about the CID sorry I am not very knowledgeable about this stuff guys..
X factor is for a completely different device, it does a temp root then supercids the device (HTC one xl)
Why don't you just unlock the boot loader and flash a recovery?

Lock the boot loader using the fastboot command from my previous post. stay in bootloader and run the htc ruu (double click) while the phone is plugged in. This will hopefully revert your phone to stock.
**THE PHONE WILL REBOOT SEVERAL TIMES. LET IT. THIS IS NORMAL. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES UNPLUG IT**
I'll just leave this here.

PS. Can my At&t hox+ even be rooted? My original goal was to root the device so that I would find a workaround At&t's wifi tether subscription that apparently they make you pay for.

It certainly can be rooted, just check out the link Hasoon posted before your post.
Yes it can be rooted and is fairly simple. I would avoid the tool kit and just flash the recovery yourself ans then the super user zip file.

Have Win XP or server 2003?!?
This: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=49045175
Don't know if you guys ever got this issue solved or not. I'm having the same issue S-on, cannot get adb devices command to recognize my t6spr for the life of me. on Hboot 2.46, it will detect the USB device malfunction if I put the device in fastboot mode, but thats about it. Device manager shows Unknown USB (Device Descriptor Request Failed). Tried the KB update for devices that fail enumeration on Windows 8.1 for x64 but the update package said my system is not affected so that never installed. Tried the alternative miniadb pakage previously mentioned but didnt seem to have an affect installing fastboot, adb, and drivers, across the system universally. Just not having any luck apparently. I guess I could just sell the phone Tampered and Unlocked haha with no fingerprint scanner functionality, flash ViperRom or some other stock look alike ROM. Was just really hoping to go back completely stock. At one point it time I was trying different PCs to see if it was just a system issue for me. Occasionally it seemed like if I let it sit in Fastboot AC it would eventually get detected and flip over to Fastboot USB long enough for me to push a couple commands to the phone. I have the right RUU but it dosent do me any good if the computer cant see the phone haha. Now no computer seems to recognize it. It all seemed to happen after I tried to S-Off the device with Firewater's method. Idk if I bricked something because it never worked or changed a CID or some other ID to where the USB isnt recognizable, but all I can get this phone to do is take an electric current from the USB, lol thats about it. I thought I had it fixed enough to where I knew what to do if i absolutely needed to get fastboot to recognize the phone but now, nothing.
Just a curiousity question here....a bad usb cable can produce this also...read through posts didnt see anyone trying a new cable...

Sounds like you need to update to the latest version of ADB/FASTBOOT the "device offline" is usually due to an incomatible older version of ADB. Get the latest version on your PC then make sure that ADB is working before trying fastboot.

We don't have an S-off solution for this phone yet but it is not required for root, although you will need to flash jmz's insecure kernel for changes to "/system" to stick after reboot even when rooted,

That's info that more people should have. The right usb cord can be difference between failure & success. I remember I went through 6 different usb cables jailbreaking my atv2.
For this phone, however, I just used the one that came with it. But I found the automated process to be sticky (not a tech term) it seemed to freeze a lot during the process.
I wound up plugging and replugging the usb when it froze.
It rooted my phone, installed twrp but needed to flash jmz kernel manually. The root tool works though. And to be honest, until I read this I didn't even think that a different cable might fix those issues in the automated process.
The other night for fun I rooted an old kindle hd and I needed to unplug and replug to get that to work. I was using the same cable that came with HTC desire.
***Anyone ever use a fastboot cable? Apparently u need one to install a 2nd boot loader on kindle hd and I'm wondering if that type of cable would resolve issues like this? That's a question not a go ahead to try it. I know very little about that and don't know if it could possibly cause more serious issues. They're cheap on eBay and I'm getting one for the kfhd.
Title explains it all, although the way I bricked it is honestly the dumbest way to brick a phone. Once upon a time, when cleaning this phone to be ready to sell, I was wiping it to clean it. I wanted to make sure it was all clean for the buyer, so I wiped USB-OTG I believe it's called (literally all storage). I immediately realized what a mistake I had made when I had no ROM, no backups, nothing at all. What is my best bet to go about fixing this now? I can reboot to bootloader and enter fastboot, but it seems like something integral is missing, because my computer no longer recognizes my DNA as a device. I still have TWRP 2.8.0.2 on my device, but I can do nothing with it because I have nothing to flash. I know there is an ADB sideload feature, but I cannot figure that one out either. Someone please help me unbrick this phone :crying:

Kinda doubtful. I do see a usb communication issue though. You say you've tried this on several computers, and I'm assuming they weren't all yours, which leads me to believe that you have been missing drivers. From what you've described I highly doubt the connection issue is stemming from something you deleted off the phone. The DNA is almost impossible to brick to the point of not being able to get it back.
Go here and get HTC Sync. This will ensure that you have all the updated drivers including the proper fastboot drivers. Install the program, and then reboot after installation completes.

From here you'll want to go in and uninstall it. This will remove the program, which has been known to cause usb connection/communication issues with rooting procedures, but it will leave the drivers behind. Once that completes, restart again. This should fix your fastboot problem. I've had the same problem after reformatting computers and then trying to simply download a driver pack rather than htc sync.
Also be sure to try different usb ports. Sometimes the ones in the front or side will cause problems, but the ones in the back or on the other side work just fine.
If all else fails, mail it to me and i'll fix it for you :good:
Bricked phone, no usb
My dna droid stopped working, loaded htc sync and revoot but still not seen by explorer or adb. Suggestions appreciated.
