[SOLVED] Kernel: Lost root, what to do? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Kinda new to i9100, most of my experience is with HTC.
First rooted using CFroot (KG2) 4.1
Current rom: CM9 kang
Current kernel: Siyah 3.3.2
What I did to cause it:
- I compiled Siyah kernel from source with some minor modifications.
- After I flashed it, the i9100m stuck on boot screen, probably something I messed up in kernel build.
What I tried to do to fix:
- Used Odin and flashed CF-root KG2 4.1 odin > doesn't boot rom, but can use recovery
- Flash Siyah 3.3.2 CWM in CFroot recovery > doesn't get root back
- Used Odin and flashed Siyah 3.3.2 odin > doesn't get root back
- run extweaks > misc > Install root, remove root, auto-install root > all don't get root back
I'm stuck here, what can I do to restore root?

Edit: Solved, just downloaded SuperOneClick:
http://shortfuse.org/?page_id=2
Clicked on Root, it said Root was already detected. Overrode it and it works now.

[Q] 2 quick questiona

If I root my galaxy tab 10.1 then I install a new rom wiping the data first will I loose the root? Or has the custom rom got root built in?
I'm using galxytask 13.1 but my tab doesn't charge through the USB to my pc, any ideas since the description to galaxytask rom says USB charging?
1. it has root
2. it doesn't work for some reason.
1. You will still have root access
2. This is a Kernel option, Task was using pershoots Kernel for previous builds , but switched to the stock kernel cause there was a problem updating from pershoots kernel to pershoots kernel if you were 2-3 updates behind I believe , the safest way was to to be on the stock kernel then flash pershoots Kernel over the stock. So if you want that option back you will have to flash pershoots latest kernel then enable it . All that info is in Tasks thread and pershoots , try there first next time

[Q] Rooted but can notgo in clockwork mode with bootons

I have root my SGS2 and I put on it ICS Rom. Now I can go in clockwork mode with Rom Manager but not with the bootons options when the phone is off. Can someone help me please?!
What happens when you do it?
flash another kernel/rom
Root but does that mean you also installed CWM ??????
jje
It seems you have flashed a rootless ICS version - flash a corresponding CF-Root kernel for your build and you will have CWM available from cold boot.

[Q] HELP / ASSIST - Unble to reboot in CWM Recovery

Hi All,
I am having trouble with Galaxy S2. Months ago I rooted my phone, installed cwm and installed a ROM into it. Now they have released a new version of the ROM which I want to install it.
This is the ROM:
http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-roms/resurrection-ics-rom-v2-0-for-galaxy-s2-i9100-best-ics-rom/
however, I am unable to boot into CWM Recovery.
If I do the POWER+VOLUP+HOME button its going directly to Android Recovery
I tried opening the CWM Manager, and I get this prompted:
"This version of CWM Manager should be used with CF-Root v5.0 or newer. It appears you are running a different kernel. Various features have been disabled"
I remember Flashing a Kernel to remove the Triangle Logo on the Loading Part.
So how can I flash the Kernel back? And install the newest updated ROM
Flash cf-root first it seems that you're not rooted.

Flashing the original kernel to remove the yellow triangle also takes you back to stock 3e recovery. You are still rooted though. Reflash the unsecure kernel through cwm manager or if that doesnt work, download ktool from google play and reflash from there.
This will give you CWM recovery without increasing binary flash counter. Reboot into recovery and do full wipe, before flashing new firmware.

Click to collapse
flash the CF-root kernel using odin or siyah kernel(for me siyah is much smoother) and everything should be fine, also use triangle away to remove the triangle (u can get in google play for donation to the dev or on XDA for free)

Installing CWM on "rooted" GT-I9100T

So I reinstalled the stock GT-I9100T (Vodafone S2) 4.0.3 ICS firmware using Odin, and decided to use a method of rooting I found online which was simply installing "update.zip" using the stock Recovery. A SuperSU app is present and Root Checker says it's rooted. Now I want to install CWM to reflash AOKP, but I'm not sure what method to use, since it's already rooted.
Thanks in advance.
Save yourself hassles & avoid 'temporary' versions of CWM. Just flash the Odin version of the Siyah build which is compatible with the current Android version you're running. Read the first page of the Siyah threads to workout which build you need. You'll have a rooted phone + permanent CWM & you can then flash any rom/other kernel you like quickly/easily.

Updating CWM Manager

hi there
I have at the moment CWM V 3.15 from 2011 and I would like to update it to latest version, just the CWM manager, not new rom or kernel...here's what I am running now:
4.1.2
BaseBand
I9100XXMS2
Kernel
3.12.0-rc5-Siyah-Dorimanx-v8.42
Build Number
JZO54K.I9100XWLSW
how to do it? I know normally is included in Kernels or am I wrong?
Gabrio
Correct. On the I9100 series, recovery is baked into the kernel & not in a separate partition. So if you want permanent latest CWM, you'll need to find/run a kernel that has it. If you flash CWM on its own, it will only persist until the next reboot & you'll go back to whatever recovery is baked into your kernel.
