[Q] Home Button > Recent Apps Window - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I have used the search engine and tried google but I can't seem to find my answer. I am either terrible with search engines or I'm wording my problem poorly.
Basically, before I upgraded my S2 the home key would take me to the Task Manager. After upgrading my phone, it takes me to this "recent apps" interface, which I really don't like :\ it looks ugly and I have to clear each app I've used one by one.
Is there a way to disable this feature and have it so my phone goes straight to task manager when I hold the home button?
thanks, appreciate it.

I am using apex launcher. And under apex settings> behavior> home key action, you have the option to choose what the home button does.

There is a task manager button at the bottom of the recent apps list that will open the taks manager....
the recent apps list is not whats running, just what Recently been accessed by you, hence Recent Apps list.... sliding them does not close the app!

Change Home Long-Press to be specific app shortcuts?

Is this possible at all? Or already done, maybe? would it be an app that could possibly run and replace this action or does it require a rom modification to do it?
I'd prefer specific apps to always be in my home long-press popup than just the most recent ones (ex: mail, web browser, twitter, facebook etc the ones that i am typically trying to get to )
Any thoughts?
I wouldn't mind having menu long press go to the dialer app so we can have a dedicated dialer button we can use when we have other apps open. Long pressing the menu button brings up the quick search bar which we already have a button for.

long pressing the menu button brings up the keyboard ... not the search...
Long press of menu brings up search on the vibrant, try it. (i read another thread that this isn't the same on other devices)
I assume that given that Vlingo can take over the long press of the search and home replacements can take over the long press of home, an app could be written to take over the long press of home to change its action as well?
I'm not a programer so I wouldn't have a clue of how to write an app that replaces that home/recent apps pop up to allow your own choice of shortcuts
Oh yeah, I guess I was wrong... I have to many devices to keep track of the differences...

I *kind-of* got what I wanted via the app "App Launcher" (link: http://www.appbrain.com/app/net.talondesigns.quicklaunch - $1.99)
It looks identical to the popup that you get with a long press of the home button - you can select the shortcuts you want to be in it, BUT it is a long press of the search key instead. Functionally, it is what I want, but I'd prefer to take over the home button action rather than using the search button, as I had that one assigned to Vlingo.

Best way to add app-drawer button to the button-bar?

The "recent apps" button is a great addition to the UI, but I'd also like to have a dedicated button on the button bar for opening the app drawer.
To those of you more versed in UI-fu than I am: what would be the best way for me to add an app-drawer button to the button bar, eg. right next to the "recent apps" button, so as to facilitate direct access to the app drawer from any app?
Thanks
Use Nova Launcher and map the home button alternate mode to open the app drawer. So in effect, one press on home will send you to your home screen and the second press will put you in your app drawer.

This. Other than that, its not possible unless the rom itself is edited to do it, which again, isn't possible, because different homescreens have different app drawers.

You wouldn't happen to know of any SystemUI mods that fit the bill I suppose...

Any app to avoid the to click the Home button?

Hi!
I don't like the feel of the Home button. Is there any option or app to add another option with the home button properties?
Thank you!

I would say use a different launcher that will let you assign to different buttons.
I don't use the home button that much because I back out of 99% of apps (old habit from G1 days) and since I use Nova Launcher, I assigned S-Voice to the menu long-press. The only time I use the home button is coming out of the browser and the odd time when I truly multi-task (usually copy/paste from one app to another).

Taskbar task switcher. Can add a line to Taskbar dropdown for "Return to desktop"
Yeah, this home button is ridiculously annoying.

yes
hold an app and drag it sideways to close
ד"א אני Mine
you can do it there or use third party apps like advance task killer to end tasks
Shoot..I was hoping that it isnt the multitasking panel xD
If you leave apps open, they will obviously launch faster (especially dialer and contacts which lag on opening from cold).
Thanks anyway !

how to map google now to home button???

I just got jb but when I long press the home button it brings up task manager. I read somewhere it should open google now.
Any solution??
Long press opens task manager and on the bottom there are three buttons: first one opens task manager, second(with the G icon) is the google now, and the third is kill all active apps.

u dont have to long press home key instead long press menu key
hope it helps
Or just map one of the custom launchers gestures for swype up to launch Google search/now, or app drawer button gesture up, kinda mimicking aosp way of launching it.
