Recently I decided to try fixing my Vibrant, the problem was the power button was no longer responsive. I ordered a replacement ribbon and was in the process of removing the old ribbon and I accidentally tore one of the solder pads off. I've spent the better part of the night searching here at XDA, other android forums and google for a way to get the phone turned on without using the power button. Ive come up with nothing, all I can do is get into download mode by holding up/down and plugging in USB.
Is there a way to turn the phone on via PC/software? Or does anyone know of a spot on the motherboard I can bridge to get it to turn on?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as my Galaxy S2 is broken(cracked screen and waiting on replacement), and I'm stuck using a "dumb" phone.

Well here I am posting from my vibrant. Out of an act if despiration, I used the tip of my volt meter to scrape away small layers of the board underneath the spot where the soldering pad had been torn off. Eventually I got to some metal looking stuff and turned the volt meter on. Then used the positive and negative points to touch the remaining pad and the metal looking stuff. To my surprise the phone booted up.
When reassembling my phone I had to cut a piece of the plastic board cover(between sim card and battery) so that I could snap it back into place without having to remove the battery and sim card. I also used a small screwdriver to gently bend the rest of it around any areas it was getting caught up.
I need to get a better solder tip before I can make this fix perm. It will work for now, and until then I just plug into usb then unplug to get screen to light up. Additionally I have read there may be a few apps.available to allow use of volume up/down to light up screen thus eliminating the need for the power button.
I will take and post some pictures when I do the perm fix just in case anyone else ever encounters the same situation.

Flash a rom with ODIN...go to stock or any other rom....and check the AUTO REBOOT button in options in ODIN
The power button is nothing but a switch; if you bridge the two sides of the switch it should have the same function.. or sometimes the switch may be always bridged and pressing it unbridges it, in which case just unbridge it.

I dropped my phone in water for maximum 5-6 seconds. I pulled the battery out, dried it with a towel then ...(later i realize it was stupid) tried to turn it back on. It just did a fast boot loop without even pressing the power button. It's like the power button was stuck?
Then i read the online guides about the rice. So i put the phone in a rice container for 12 hours. I took it out and turned it on (using the power button). This time, it actually turned on, loaded up the KISS screen (I'm using ICS KISS) then it would just reboot to Vibrant again.
I also tried vol + and got download mode but when i did vol - i did not get recovery
Turned it off, put it back into the rice. Hoping things might change. Got a backup phone for the time being.
Question is... Can I simply flash the phone to stock or is a component linked to the main SDCard corrupted?
Thanks for the help!
Hello there! Are you comfortable with talking the phone apart? If so (only if you are), i myself would take out the battery asap with no power connect to the device. Then i would simply take it apart and leave it in parts to let dry. I would also look around for possible corrosion around soldered connections. If corrosion (usually white powdery looking kinda like a battery terminal in a car), i would take rubbing alcohol and a tooth brush and scrub it away. Then let it sit and let dry. Once dried out reassemble and insure that the connection ribbons are very securely in place. Sometimes when a phone is dropped and starts to boot loop, it just means a connector isn't all the way connected anymore. But considering that water is in the picture, it could be a combination. By the way this is at your own risk and this is what i would personally do and have done with success. Ive seen phones with plenty of water still in them after the rice thing. I hope this helps you out man. Good luck and if you do choose to take apart your phone just take your time and be careful. I would only take out the main board and the board that connects to it and not worry about anything else that isn't a board. Sorry for the book lol.

If you Google "how to install front faced camera vibrant mobiletech video", watch the youtube video because they take apart the back of the phone. It not as hard as you think. Then put it in a bag if rice like the above post said. Good luck!

My son has my old g tab and it was running slow so I decided to put another rom on it. To transfer the rom files, I first I plugged it in to my Win7 computer and the drives came up, but then decided I wanted to do it on my ubuntu computer instead, so I plugged it in to the usb port and the drives did not pop up. So I figured a driver issue so I just decided to do it on my Win7 computer, now it didn't work there. Now the screen wont come on, it worked this morning, but now I cannot even get it to power on at all, nothing on the screen. The battery was full, but I have tried with it plugged in to wall outlet too. I tried pressing the power button slowly a few times and holding it down to force it to power off. I also tried powering on holding the volume up and the volume down, still nothing. What could have gone wrong? Please help, my son is going on vacation next week and I really don't want to tell him I broke his tablet just days before. Thanks.
do a bit of reading, but basically:
hold volume down and the power button together for at least 5 seconds to get it into APX mode. plug it in and you should hear it connect.
does the charge light come on when you plug it in? if not, it's dead.
I'm assuming it's charged and just not booting. Look for nvFlash files for it, first stock TnT ROMs or maybe an ICS rom, but those are all really slow, except maybe for the one not on XDA, AOKP for the gTab.
and don't use words like hard brick if you still want to work on fixing it. a hard brick is a paper weight. hyperbole isn't becoming on anyone.
I have tried that with the usb plugged in to windows and there is no usb connect sound. The red light does come on when its plugged in to outlet. Is there anyway for me to reset it to factory just using some special button combo?
I've seen on other forums, don't know if this one or for other devices, that maybe it will work when the battery fully drains? So if it is off right now and if the battery was full when this happened, how long until the battery would fully drain? Like days or weeks?
I fixed it! I opened it up and unplugged the battery and plugged it back in and now its working

I would recommend drilling a DRH while you had it open, hopefully you did?
Where exactly is a DRH supposed to be drilled? And how big of a hole?

With that I direct your attention to this tread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1585012 - Comes with pictures and location of the internal reset button. There are different ways that you can create your hole, I think the best one is using wax paper cover the back and mark location on the sheet with a Sharpe marker. Then apply your template to the back cover and scratch the marking in.
Hello all.
This guide will help you if you have:
A phone that will not turn on unless you plug it in and even then only an LG sign shows up followed by either blank/ rapidly flashing red light.
to my knowledge, what happened to put the phone in this state is the battery died while you were flashing a rom or something as such and the phone got confused on if it should be in charge mode or not.
being that the phone has a sealed battery, it is not as easy to pull out the battery as it is on other phones.
Fortunately for us, it is not difficult at all to unplug the battery!
REQ: torx screw driver that will fit but NOT STRIP the screws at the bottom of the phone.
Small phillips screw driver.
**I suggest charging the phone for a good 10 minutes before starting this. just to make sure it has a charge.
Step 1: unscrew the two screws at the bottom of the phone CAREFULLY!
Step 2: with your nails carefully pry up the back cover (inspect the phone carefully and identify the back cover from the rest of the phone.) off starting from the bottom of the phone.
Step 3: peel back the blue tape on the connector and remove the two screws.
Step 4: carefully pry up the connector from the top.
Step 5: plug back in and try powering on. By this point you should know if it worked and you can start putting the phone back together.
This guide is not the best (My first) but if you have any questions send me a message.
Good luck with your phones!
One of the first official LGOG teardown! Looks easier than expected..
@exemplarmusik sent from his LG - E970 ya dig?!
Awesome job, man. should come in handy for me at some point I am sure. I am curious though, those internals look identical to the Nexus 4's (as I guess we should expect) and I know the battery is glued down with the Nexus 4, so is that the case with our LGOG as well?
Yeah. The battery is glued in. I dont see an issue replacing it though. maybe a heat gun to losen up the glue and you should be good.
And yeah, it is very easy to open up.
This would have helped me last week. Oh well, got a replacement device and a free LG headset for my trouble.

I think it would only say that if unlocked, then you have N4 bootloaders.
I had this fast flashing "brick"-like issue, but after I let my phone cool, I just held power and vol-up and my phone went straight to the boot loader.

Damn, I didn't think it'd be that easy to take it apart. I wonder if it'd be possible to stick a Qi wireless charger pad in there, like the Nexus 4.
First of all, thanks for the guide. :good:
Here is what caused this to happen on my phone:
(black screen, flashing red light)
With phone off and charger plugged in you should be able to press power for a couple of seconds and it will show the charging progress. When you unplug the charger and press power you should see nothing unless you hold it long enough to power up the phone. Problem was that no matter how long you waited after unplugging the charger you could press power and see the progress ::what::
That causes the battery to drain, completely if left alone for a couple of days resulting in, you guessed it, black screen and flashing red light. After leaving it plugged in for 4-5 hours it regained a full charge and was fine.
This did not occur when phone was on while charging. Needless to say, I exchanged the phone. Hope this helps.
Don't assume you have any other pictures
I was considering trying to steal the signal amplifier and the filter from this and put in n4 ... and chance you got any shots of those in the optimus g ?
I still cant get mine to turn on, I unhooked the battery, still nothing. I hold the power it goes to the lg screen then nothing. I can hold power and volume up and nothing happens. Does anybody have a idea, I want my phone back.
Thanks
HELP!
My phone somehow will not turn on or charge! I have tried multiple chargers and outlets, and my phone will not charge or get the red light signaling that it is... There is no damage to the phone other than a small crack done a couple months prior. This happened very suddenly, the phone just ran out of batteries then stopped charging... is it possible to find the same battery as this and replace it?? My phone company said LG would not accept it because of the small crack on the front screen corner. Any help would be very greatly appreciated, really dont have the money to buy a phone off contract...

My phone is same yours. you plug and unplug somes times untill red light flash then push power button. goodluck
Wow looks like there are connectors on the back to go to the inside of the back cover... I wonder if this is compatiable with the orbe!... if not it should be easy to use old Palm Touchstone parts to make it charge wirelessly.
I have the sprint version I am hoping it has the same connectors... You guys see the two prongs on the back cover adn the metal places they attach to??

Those prongs are for connecting to the antenna in the back cover, not a wireless charger.

I could use some help guys, if this thread isn't too old. I've searched high and low to the answer here and nothing is working. I've tried download mode, fastboot, recovery, reset, holding power down, plugging it in and unplugging it. I've pulled the plate off of the battery, tried LGNPST, drivers, etc. No go on anything.
The phone is still dead, and will not turn on. The best I've gotten is a solid red light after holding the power button for 15-20 seconds. Then after about 3-5 seconds it resumes flashing (alternating between the red light and the key buttons). If I continue holding the power button down it will repeat this, showing solid red and then reverting to flashing.
I can not get the screen to display anything, not even the charging animation, and none of my computers will even recognize the device. I've been messing with it all day and I'm stuck. If anyone can help me, at all, please do. I hate going to Sprint. Anything but that, please.

me too.
I was doing the LGNPST and it was stuck at 67% for 15 min so i unplugged and the phone did nothing so I turned it off from recovery and nothing. no power only the power flashes red for a few seconds after pressing.
I am out of town now but if I can get it to turn back on I will send it back since I just received it today.
Unfortunately, my phone is now completely unresponsive. I have had it plugged in to the original wall charger for over two hours and still no power. If i hold down the power button for about 15 seconds while plugged in the red light will blink once every second until i let go. However, if I unplug it and do the same the light will not come on. I'm about to disassemble my brick and see if the battery pull will help any.
Any success stories in detail would be appreciated. Plan B is to send it off to Mobiletechvideos.
Edit: Moving on to plan B....thanks.

I did this trick a couple weeks ago when my phone stopped responding. Could only get flashing light while plugged in, and no response when not plugged in. Eventually while plugged in I could get to the bootloader, but could not get to recovery. This fix worked for me, though it may not work for you. You will need a T5 torx (star) screwdriver. Good luck.
Here is the deal.
The usb port on my EVO 3d fried a few months ago when my kid spilled water on my phone. Everything else worked fine, so I bought some extra batteries and an external charger and would just swap them out. Never had an issue with it until yesterday. The phone was working but the battery was low. I shut it down and waited for all the lights to turn off, took the battery out, put a new one in, and hit the power button. Nothing happened... no red light, home buttons didn't light up, nothing at all. I tried to swap in two other fully charged batteries (stock and non stock) with the same results.
I've tried taking the battery out and holding the power button down, tried holding the camera button + power button, volume up/down and power button, and other various combinations in hope that it works. The problem is that I cannot connect a cable to the phone because the USB is, quite literally, melted - has been for two months.
Is there any hope? Or is this a lost cause. I am reasonably skilled with a soldering iron and considered replacing the USB jack but I don't want to go through the effort if there is an easier way, or if this is a hopeless cause...
BTW this is an unrooted phone...

If volume down and power button isn't turning it on, I'd say it's toast. You're probably lucky it lasted 2 months after the spill. I wouldn't bother soldering a different usb port likely wouldn't even work even if you could get it done. The contacts/solder points are in very tight spots and a portion of the board itself could be bad since it was wet, which is causing the problem.
If you could get a hold of a really cheap 2nd device say with a broken screen, these phones are very easy to tear down to the main component and swap out.

You'd just need to switch out that board of components in the 3rd to last pic. I would suggest checking sites like craigslist first to see if there is one for sale in your area for cheap that you could just activate. I picked up one 2 weeks ago for $80 after I shattered the screen on mine. You should be able to find a broken screen one for darn cheap on ebay just make sure it has a clean ESN or it's going to be worthless.

Hi all, was hoping someone could help.
I have recently, last month, changed the battery, so I know it's not the battery. When I plug in a charger the phone is unresponsive, drawing only 0.05amps. if I leave it over night the green led will light up and when I press the power key the screen says 100%. When I try to boot there is no response. I have tried
Power +vol down
Power +vol up
Power +vol up +down
Power and all buttons
For about 30sec but still no boot or anything. I'm thinking maybe fried board, but was hoping software issue. Is there anything i could try to boot it?
Many thanks
Possible that a connector came loose?
Make sure no foreign conductive debris was accidentally introduced... a small loose screw. Check that all screws are in place in the assemblies.
Is the power switch good?
Hi thanks for the reply, I checked there's no loose or foreign object near the charge port. When I assembled the phone all screws were replaced so no loose screws. When the phone is charged ,ie green led I press the power button and the phone activates the screen to display 100%, this tells me the power button is working. Do you have anymore suggestions would be helpful. Many thanks.

If it won't go into the boot menu it's not looking good. Try a hard reset.
The subassemblies when out of circuit are susceptible to ESD damage. Handle these like a stick of ram particularly the mobo and display. At the very least raise room humidity to 50% and wear all clothes. In addition a earth grounded ESD mat and wrist strap are recommended as are following ESD protocols.
Otherwise you may or may not get away with it.
Hi thanks for the help. Yh the problem occurred during normal use. How would I do a hard reset if no menus are displaying? Many thanks.

Pull battery connection.
Recheck all ribbon connectors while you're at it.
Yep done that still the same. No response. Guess the main board maybe fried.
