Someone was asking how to do this over in the Speed Rom thread...
Setting up Tasker to toggle Sync On / Off during the work day is a good way to prolong battery life. I already have Tasker doing other stuff for me, so this uses few additional resources.
This is a quick and dirty setup, but it works and it's dead simple - perfect for someone who's never used Tasker before. I'm sure someone here could come up with a more elegant solution, so please feel free to get fancy...
First we're gonna setup 3 Tasks ("tasks" are the bits that actually do the work).
AutoSync On, AutoSync Off, and AutoSync 5 minutes.
Those Tasks will be used by 2 Profiles (the "profiles" tell those tasks when to run).
AutoSync Home (Sync ON in the evening, then OFF in the morning), AutoSync Work (Intermittent Sync 3x from 8:00a-5:00p).
Anyway, launch Tasker then tap Tasks. Hit the + key.
When prompted, enter the name for the first one...
"AutoSync On", then... > check > + > Net > AutoSync > (Set) On > check > check. You're done.
Do the same thing again for AutoSync Off, with the obvious differences.
+ > "AutoSync Off" > check > + > Net > AutoSync > (Set) Off > check > check. Done.
AutoSync 5m will turn AutoSync On... for 5 minutes... then off. 3 steps.
+ > AutoSync 5m > check > + > Net > AutoSync > (Set) On > check
(now you'll add a second & third action to this same task)
+ > Task > Wait > + (minutes + 5x to read 5 minutes) > check
+ > Net > AutoSync > (Set) Off > check
You can see here what the Task will do in 3 steps. Tap "check" and you're done with the 3 Tasks.
Those are going to be ran from the two Time Based Profiles called "AutoSync Home" and "AutoSync Work".
Profiles > + > "AutoSync Home" > check > Time
I've set the times from 17:00 (5pm) to 8:00 (set it to whatever you want / it can be adjusted later, but the evening is first)
> check > Select the "AutoSync On" Task that you made
Press and hold "AutoSync On" > Add Exit Task < "AutoSync Off"
That'll automatically turn on AutoSync at 5:00pm, and turn it off again at 8:00am. Make sure the Profile is checked (to the right of the name) to make it active.
AutoSync Work.
Same as above, but the From time is 10:00 > Repeat every 2 hours > To 14:00.
Select the AutoSync 5m Task. No exit task.
That'll turn AutoSync on for 5 minutes during the day at 10:00am, 12 noon and 2:00pm. Again, check the Profile to make it active.
Tap Check to Save and Minimize. If you run a task killer, you'll want to make Tasker exempt. Also, when you get everything working the way you want, backup your work (Menu > Data > Backup).
Tasker can do much much more. This is the tip of the iceburg. Check out the Tasker Site and the Tasker Wiki.
I'm not affiliated. I just like the program. Really. It's the most powerful program I've found for Android. When someone shows you a cool app they have on their phone (or 5), you can say "Tasker can do that (all that)"
Once you get Tasker doing things for you, take your Amaze to the next level - get some NFC Tags and NFC Task Launcher which has, you guessed it, Tasker intergration! Once setup, you'll never have to touch the phone again... it'll just automagically do your bidding. <insert evil laugh>
Haha I think it was me! This is great as others can post their own profiles like turn on WiFi or GPS or Bluetooth or automatic vibrate or silent mode when certain times or locations are reached! The possibilities are endless. Having an automated phone awesome!

rwb2073 or anyone else. I have tasker turn off my mobile data every time that screen goes off. But I also stream ESPN and Pandora. So I said tasker Pandora is running enable mobile data. But is not working. How can I make tasker enable data while screen off only when those apps are running
My other question is turning off and on mobile data as screen goes on and off bad? Drain battery? I don't think it drains for me bc ill go a good 3 hrs without turning screen on and data is off saving me tons of battery.

This has been a great tutorial, @rwb2073.
I'll be trying this tonight, with just some minor tweaks to the AutoSync 5m task:
Wifi ON
AutoSync ON
Wait for 15m
AutoSync OFF
Wifi OFF
This is so that I can switch off my wifi when not in use, since I don't stream at night.
IS "AutoSync 5m will turn AutoSync On... for 5 minutes... then off. 3 steps. " A CYCLE ?
I mean, when it finishs it starts again ?
No. It runs just once, but at each specified time of course.

This saved me extreme amounts of battery, thank you!
Will the sync every 5 min task loop by itself? Or do I have to do something else?
Hi,
I've created a similar profile but the Android sync keeps turning off the Chrome sync (is unchecked in Google account from time to time). I don't know the reason Android ¿or Tasker? is doing this but it is sad
Chrome is the only one that is disabled and is the one I use the most to sync tabs with PC

Chances are that some energy saving program or setting is shutting the Chrome Sync down to save energy. First it would be good to see if any modifications to the profile you made will prevent the disabling of Chrome Sync.

The Tasker profile is practically the same, every hour: Autosync On - wait 2 minutes - Autosync Off.
The problem is more with Android or Chrome, because if I manually disable 'Sync' the Chrome sync always gets unchecked/untitled

Hello,
I know its an old Thread, but i would say thank you for These Post ! It works perfekt

The issue seems to be with the first tick box called "turn off backlight if device is not use for" located at;
Start > Settings > System > Backlight > External Power >
Every time you start tomtom the device will automatically tick this box, which seems to kill the backlight. You can minimise tomtom and go and manually untick it, which does bring the backlight back on, but next time you use tomtom it will ticked again and you have to repeat this procedure each time.
You're xda must be plugged in to power to see this.
Anyone know a registry hack to keep this box perminantly unticked?
I am working on a solution that works. Will post when complete.

Is there any app that syncs with google calendar and automatically shuts off your ringer, or sets your phone to vibrate while you're in the meeting or something along the lines of that?
I used Buzy on my OG Evo and it worked great, but I tried installing it on my evo lte, and for some reason it just force closed every time I tried to run it... I believe that it's not compatible with ICS, or sense 4.0, or both
I tried busy me, but either my settings were a tad wonky or it just doesn't work
Any suggestions guys?
Im not sure if this app will help is called phone silencer in the play store....you could time it for the amount of time you wanted on silent and then it will go back to loud

Hmm, I'm looking for something more automatic..
I need this in case I forget to silence my phone before work or classes, and the synchronization is nice because since I already use google calendar for everything, no extra steps are necessary on my part (like timing the ringer for each day)
also when adding an impromptu meeting, I just need to add it to my calendar and it silences my ringer when it's time
Automatic? Nothing will beat Tasker IF you set all your appointments in your calendar with a certain title. For example, I put 'Work' in my calendar entries and set up a tasker profile to detect if there's a calendar entry by that name, if there is, it will automagically set my phone to vibrate (and also set one to automatically reply to texts with 'at work, I'll get back to you later' if anyone tried to text me.
If you're interested I will post the profile I have =D
EDIT: I figured I will post the profile for those who want this anyway, you will need Tasker, get it from Google Play here -- or the author allows for a 7 day APK trial from his website here. Installed the app? Good, launch it and follow these instructions:
New > Profile Name > OK > State > Calendar Entry
Under title put what title it will match, for example putting in "Work *" will trigger this profile if you have a calendar entry that starts with Work (Work SDFHOH will also trigger it), use * as a wildcard. Other parameters can also be set if you wish, hit the ? button to see what each does, but the only necessary one is the title. Hit done.
A task selection should automatically pop up. This is what tasker will set your phone to do when it detects the title we set in the previous step. Hit new task, name it if you wish. Hit the + button.
Audio> Silent mode> Chose mode (Vibrate or On (completely silent))> Done
Next step is optional but I like to add a visual queue telling me that the profile activated. Hit the + button again:
Alert> Flash> Enter text you wish to display i.e. "Vibrate mode on".> Done
Hit test if you want to make sure it works, afterward, hit Done. Now tap on the action we just created, it should have a green > arrow saying something like "Silent Mode On/Vibrate/Off" and tap "Add Exit Task" (this will automatically take the phone off of vibrate when meeting/work/school is over.
Hit New Task and name if you want. Hit the + button.
Audio> Silent Mode> Off (or Vibrate, if you always keep your phone on vibrate)> Done
Again the following is if you want to add a visual queue showing that the phone is no longer silenced:
Alert> Flash> Enter text you wish to display i.e. "Vibrate mode off".> Done
Hit done and apply. You're done
Basically what we did is create a Profile that detects if the calendar has a certain title, if so, it will enter the start task and once tasker detects that the calendar no longer has that event active, it will automatically apply the end task.
It should look something like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

}
This app is very powerful, you can create literally endless tasks (I have one set to go silent upon arrival at my favorite movie theater, go into silent mode if the phone is getting power from the AC between certain times EXCEPT if I receive a call from certain people, turn my media sound down when I plug in my headphones and pull up a menu letting me chose from all my music apps, say the name of the caller) I recommend you experiment around. There's a site that has a bunch of profiles if you want any ideas located here. Enjoy!
Thanks! I'll check it out.
Is there any way for tasker to silence the phone for all meetings in a certain calendar for google? or during all meetings described as busy?
Yes it's possible. Instead of setting a title, leave that blank and under availiable select No go activate when you're busy OR under calendar hit the little search icon and select your calendar.
Sent from my Evo3D Shooter.
Search the market for "smart silencer". I've been using it for almost a year now.
I actually use Tasker for this. This works fine on my Evo 4GLTE (did a backup and restore from my EVO 4G).
However, the application does have a learning curve. Look the application up online as it's paid for.

I highly recommend Shush (free from the market). It's not "automatic", but what it does do, is when you turn your ringer down, a pop-up lets you quickly pick how long the phone should stay silent and lets it turn back on after that time period.
It's super fast to use (less than 3 seconds to mute and set a time) due to a smart and clean interface. A very nice app, in my opinion.
Don't mean to resurrect a somewhat old thread, but I use Silent Time to automate silent mode for my classes. It doesn't do it initially automatically, but you just set up the event once, what time and days you want it to be silent, and it will do it endlessly until you delete the event or uninstall.
I know its not as automatic as you'd like, but I thought I'd suggest it anyway.
Thanks for the suggestion, I'm going to try to use busy me again, and if that doesn't work I'll just use this
I have the ME7, Rooted Verizon phone. I'm trying to use Tasker to turn on my GPS when it detects BT is connected. Any help?

I have MDK running Tasker but I use start of an app to trigger GPS ON. Can you set your profile to start GPS when you start a certain app?
I also have profiles that when I'm at home or at work (cell near) that GPS is off. GPS may have to be in the default state of "ON" in order to do what you're asking. You may have to create profiles to turn it off as well, but leave the default to "ON". I hope that makes sense to you. Make sure you have the latest version of Tasker: 4.1u3.
I don't think that ME7 to MDK would make a difference in Tasker, but it may.
You need to download secure settings AND install the helper from within it and then to use the GPS on off feature you use the option under plugins>secure settings NOT the one under networks and then edit the configuration for the plugin

I've been using Phone Weaver for my profiles. I have "drive" set up to turn on GPS when I would normaly leave for work, then it turns off at 8am then back on at 4:30, off at 5pm... I needed to download secholeutils.apk and toss it in /system/app and set permissions. Works flawlessly. If I need to drive somewhere during the day, I just hit the "Drive" profile.

In order to do this you will need secure settings and helper and tasker installed assuming you have all this based on this thread
First you will set up two tasks
1) Task to turn on gps
example: Secure settings: GPS on then Flash "Happy Driving
2) set up a DIFFERENT task to turn off GPS using secure settings
create a profile that activates on an app launch. then tasker will require you link this with a task, choose the gps on task.
Next long press on the task (while in the profiles tab not the tasks tab) an option for "add exit task" should appear that will allow you to link the gps off task
exit tasks are tasks that tasker executes when the conditions are no longer true Maps is launched=gps on task upon app close=gps off task is run

If you want to turn on GPS install secure settings and helper from inside secure settings. Your going to need root. When making the task click plugin>secure settings>GPS and select the state you want. (On off or toggle)

Hi,
For me following worked:
Duplicate the Profile where you turn on GPS
Edit the duplicate like this:
invert the selected apps (press the invert button) so all other apps are selected
then set the action to GPS off.
Hope this helps.
Best regards,
Philipp

While true that will work I would recommend using the exit task option. When you get more advanced with tasker it will benefit you greatly plus the way you said it is kind of "incorrect". It will work in this case but in others it won't correctly
I'm losing my will to live just in the first few hours of using this thing.
OK - so, unless you have a Chinese phone number, you can't log in to My Oppo which means, i'm told, you can't change the launcher and the built in launcher is a real piece of human solid waste.
Anyway, on to the subject...
No matter what setting i select, it kills off tasks like Gmail, WhatsApp, Timely etc. when the screen turns off and doesn't restart them until i OPEN the app again! I mean, seriously1?!?!?!111ELEVENTY!?! WTF!?
I've done the following:
Turned off Smart Power Saver (ALL OF IT)
Just to be sure, turned off Smart Power Saver for individual apps
Used the old trick of turning Data Saver ON
For EACH app turned ON "Allow Auto Startup" and "Allow Auto Startup of Other Apps"
For EACH app, entered Power Saver, selected "Allow Background Running"
This is a COMPLETE show stopper and I can't fathom how a phone, that's built to receive messages when turned off, will NOT receive messages!
If anyone has ANY ideas, i could possibly fall in love with them!

surprising for me locking the app, giving it auto start permission and going in app settings and giving it the option to always run in background, works fine.

As for G-Mail working properly:
Go to the G-Mail app settings & ensure the following:
1) Power Saver: Allow Background Running
2) Manage Notifications: Allow EVERYTHING,then,if needed, close those toggles that might not apply to your usage.
3) Check permissions & allow as you see fit.
4) Allow Auto Startup
In RECENTS,pull down on the G-Mail app to lock-in
In PHONE/SYSTEM SETTINGS:
Notifications & Status Bar > Manage Notifications > GMail App & verify the same as accomplished in the GMail app settings.
Further down the screen, verify all of your GMail account(s) are present & showing the type of notifications you want.
In PHONE/SYSTEM SETTINGS:
Go to SECURITY > PERMISSIONS & verify all desired permissions are granted,by both headers PERMISSIONS & APPS.
In PHONE/SYSTEM SETTINGS:
Go to BATTERY:
Ensure Power Saver is OFF
Ensure Smart Power Saver is OFF
Custom Power Saver: Go to GMail > ensure Allow Background Running is enabled (A LOT OF REPEAT/REDUNDACNY,AIN'T COLOR OS GREAT,LOL)
App Quick Freeze:Go to GMail & toggle it OFF (This is likely the culprit,I missed it myself on initial set-up).

Hi!
Thank you for taking the time to detail the reply, very much appreciated.
For the launcher, i'm at work now but will certainly try that when I get home and I really hope it works. Already have Nova installed so, ready to rock.
Re the incredibly aggressive power saving:
I did ALL of those settings yesterday, including the lock of active apps but, it made no difference. Now, what has me REALLY confused is that I woke up this morning and WhatsApp is now running constantly! When I went to sleep it was NOT working!! I mean, WTF!?
I've now locked a few more apps (Messenger etc.) to see if they mysteriously change to constant running. So far, they are not but, maybe there is some system process that's run on a period that changes that? Very, very strange.
I'll update that Bloatware thread with my experience later today with thanks/comments.
Again, thank you and have a cracker!

If all you want to do is remove/change system apps without having to register, use the procedure KOLIOSIS posted above, works PERFECTLY.
Nope. The phone is STILL killing apps. Now it's decided in the last 30 minutes that no matter what I do, Android Wear will not be allowed to run!
I'm so f*#cking sick of this phone. Fantastic hardware f##ked but incredibly aggressive power management. Hate it.

Similar issues here with my Samsung Gear S2,strange thing about it is just yesterday,I was apparently having a typical pairing/usage,getting all of my notifications to show up on it.
Now,a day later, the only connection available is for phone calls, the one thing I do not use my watch for,SMMFH....
The one difference is after I paired & set-up my watch, later that evening,I paired my Jabra Elite Active 65t buds, the connection is solid.
Gonna unpair the earbuds, reboot the phone,re-pair the watch & see what happens.
If this remains FUBAR,it is likely the straw that's breaking the camel's back, this & the limit of 5 user apps to have auto-start on boot,WTF...............................
I know, right? Five auto-start apps?? Ffs! Give me a warning and then let me overide and do what I want!
Gmail?? It's syncing but will NOT stay on "Push" and keeps dropping back to 15 minute syncing.
Android Wear loses connection, I go in to the app and it asks me if I want to "stay connected?". It reconnects then 20 minutes later the same **** happens again.
Oppo, this is MY phone. If I wanted BS restrictions I'd have bought an iPhone.

No luck with the watch being the only BT device paired,I did everything,reboot/checked all the FUBAR Battery/Notification/Permission B.S., + the Gear Manager app & still only the phone profile in BT settings......
I've dealt with some s*** U/I's & bloatware, but, this tops it all, makes an iPhone look appealing......
This makes the VIVO NEX FunTouch look like a clean U/I by comparison.................

I'm doubting I'll hang in there long enough to find out, less some software updates to fix some of the madness.
The 5 user app limit on auto-start on boot is the biggest PITA, if that wasn't the case, the rest would likely work as it should.
No notifications in the status bar is a close 2nd on the list, tied with the default launcher B. S., all of this nonsense exists to coerce people to use OPPOs ecosystem & the various 3rd party apps they fold into the mix....
I went into this phone & the NEX with my eyes wide open, with the expectation of being laden with what is SOP in China, but, especially with this phone, I can't believe the lengths Oppo goes to for the sake of having you totally enrapt in the system, enough to even make Apple & Tim Cook blush.
Guess they'll go to any lengths to data mine, from the fillings in your teeth to the cavity on your backside......

Hi guys,
I used to use Microsoft launcher as my default launcher in all phones but oppo find n does not let you do that unfortunately.
I didn't want to try adb methods (of uninstalling default launcher) that may lead to boot loop stucking if something went wrong.
So I thought to share with you finally a simple trick I came up with by using Tasker to automatically launch your favorite launcher based on UI change of default color os launcher of oppo.
First you need to install Tasker and give it all permissions required
GitHub - joaomgcd/Tasker-Permissions: Utility to easily grant Tasker permissions
Utility to easily grant Tasker permissions. Contribute to joaomgcd/Tasker-Permissions development by creating an account on GitHub.
github.com
Then you add a task and profile as follows:
Tasks > add > name it > add an action > search for if > add if condition: %WIN ~ Page 1 of 2** (**please note depends on how many pages you have on default launcher home screen, you should name the window label above (page 1 of 2 or page 1 of 3... Etc)) > from the add button > add another condition > %WIN ~ Page 2 of 2 (so the profile works on all pages of home screen) > add another action > search for wait > wait > 3 ms (milliseconds) > ok > add another action > app > launch app > Microsoft launcher (your launcher) > ok
Add profile > event > app changed > all apps (from bottom in Tasker) > system launcher
Choose the task you created with above actions in the profile
Done

Just a quick question: did you test this on Android 13 or Android 11? Because I'm using Android 13, and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

I am using Android 13...
Have been using this method for couple of days with no issues ))
In that case, I'm doing something wrong, for sure, because, sometimes, the Microsoft Launcher doesn't appear. As an example, if I press the Task Switcher button, and then press the Home button, I still get the default Oppo Launcher. Also, sometimes, when I press the Task Switch button, it opens and closes immediately. Just to clarify, I don't use gestures for the Back, Home and Task Switcher; I'm using the onscreen buttons.
The only difference is that I already used ADB to change the default system launcher to Microsoft Launcher. Could this be the problem?

Yes it could be.
I am using Tasker to automatically launch Microsoft launcher based on oppo default color os launcher itself, so if you uninstalled the default launcher Tasker won't recognize the UI change of default launcher and hence of course won't give you correct actions...
You may reinstall the default launcher and try Tasker method and please let me know if it works fine afterwards..
Just to clarify, I managed to get your solution up and running. Note that I didn't uninstall the default launcher; I only forced Microsoft Launcher to be the default launcher, using ADB commands.
The problem was something that we always forget: battery optimization. I had to change all the settings related to battery management (Battery menu and also App menu) and had to allow to run in background (Tasker App). Now I can have your script running 99% of the time.
The problem I noticed is if I press the Task Switcher button, for a short period I can see the running apps but then, it shows my home screen. If I press the Task Switch 3 times in a row, the Task Switch stays on but, as soon I press the Home button, it doesn't revert to Microsoft Launcher. To solve that, I need to disable and enable Tasker again.
Your solution, for me, it's not 100% fault proof, but it's much better that having to press the Microsoft Launcher button that I had to put on the Home screen, so, I thank you for sharing this other method for having a different launcher
If only we could put a "decent" ROM...

Yeah you are right. Tasker method have some bugs and sometimes it forces to home screen of Microsoft launcher in somewhere in settings.
Then like you said turn off the profile and turn on again later...

Good news I was able to fix that bug by adding a condition of the profile only works on home screen.
So it doesn't not work on recent tasks or settings that related to oppo system launcher app (lock screen wallpaper settings for example).
I will edit the original post adding the "if" condition...
Tasker will read the window label which is unique for each window in same app, so the actions will only be executed on home screen.
Please note the window label of oppo system launcher changes based on number of pages you have on system launcher home screen.
It's called "page 1 of x"
Where x is the number of pages you have in the launcher it self.
I was trying to reproduce your steps, but I'm getting stuck on the "if" condition. Whatever I do, I cannot put the "green" line (the one next to the conditions), it's always "red". I already tried to use Tasker Permission Manager to sort my Tasker's permissions (all green now) but looks like Tasker cannot "read" the WINDOW LABEL from the phone. I say this because if I try to press the PLAY button on the bottom of the task, it doesn't do anything. If I remove the "if" condition, it works as previously.
What am I missing?

The green line means the if condition is true and this only happens when you go to home screen which gives the label name page1 of...
It won't go green unless Tasker reads home screen label.
I took the screen shot after pressing play then going to home screen then going back to Tasker using gestures. It was not on purpose
Regardless the line going to green or stays red, if it works then it works. Even though you may not be able to make the line goes to green...
After a lot of testing, I finally found the reason why this method was not working for me:
Tasker App Check Method - Accessibility
I found that I had this option set to "App Usage Stats" (because I never changed it) and it must be set to "Accessibility"
After changing to this option (Tasker) and after activating Tasker in Accessibility menu (phone), it started to work.
But I found that this method doesn't work all the time. As example, if you click on the "Task Switcher" button, choose an opened app and them go back (via the "Back" button), the Microsoft Launcher doesn't open.
But, instead of complaining, I want to thank you for this method because it's works, and it's easy to set up.

The code
cmd package set-home-activity "com.microsoft.launcher/com.microsoft.launcher.Launcher"
And the task under adb wifi
But my advise is not to use it as when you go home screen and want to open recent tasks it messes up and you won't see any open recent applications, just lines..
(try it you will know what I mean)
Also it goes to oppo launcher sometimes and you have to go to home screen several times to get back to Microsoft launcher
Other thing Microsoft launcher icons stops working sometimes with me when I used that method
So I went back to my method of this original thread
Much stable and just a mask of oppo launcher on the top so everything goes fine (just like pressing Microsoft launcher icon to start it normally every time you go to home screen
Thanks a lot for the advice. I did try:
Code:
adb shell
pm disable com.android.launcher
pm enable com.microsoft.launcher
Which worked, except the 'swipe from bottom' gesture completely stops working. Can't swipe to exit foreground app, nor can you swipe and hold to see all recent apps.
I'm going to look around to see why that's the case, but maybe I'll just have to use your method eventually.

I guess recent tasks and home buttons are forced to be used by oppo launcher some how since even by not disabling the oppo launcher completely still some odd behavior happens by recent tasks and home button swiping.
Wish you the best of luck.
