Ok...i see all the threads about people getting bricked Vibrants from the OTA update. I read that too late, and am one of the lucky few.
Now, i can read...so i searched all over these forums, and found a ton of threads suggesting the only way for me to solve this is using ODIN...cool...ill install that.
Ignoring the fact that im irritated because im on a mac, and must find a useable PC...but now...I cant find a single hosting site that has the ALL_in_one.zip file that doesnt have download limits exceeded.
Does anyone have a way for me to grab the needed files for ODIN? Im pretty capable beyond that point....thanks...
not going to like , but if you throw a questionmark at the end of your sentence you'll realize youre asking a question, which we do have a section for.... Seems like you didnt do a lot of "searching" at all, did you check the stickies??? No worries I didnt think so, go ahead and try that out....

search, it's been discussed already.
Rule numero uno, search, search and then search some more.
I wish u gave me a useful answer other than the usual flaming....i didnt see any thread other than mikes and it only got one reply maybe something new came of it..
HTC tool unlocks the phone, however does not provide S-off for us. From my understanding there are developer versions of the Amaze running around and the only person I have seen with one is Xboarder. Not really that big of a deal I guess because Xboarder has a kernel flashing tool you can find in the development section.
Im aware of X's kernel flashing tool but S-off will make all our lives a lil easier...

Seriously? You didn't see the thread that said
Everything S-OFF - Think tank, General information, Q&A
So I am guessing you didn't see the part where it says:
There is no way to get S-OFF on a normal S-ON phone now.
You don't actually need to search. It's a sticky at the top of the Development section.
That includes the HTC Supertool.
It took me literally ten seconds to find the post you were referring to.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1413787
And the post #2 looks very familiar. Guess what? Nothing has changed or else we wouldn't have the other posts asking for s-off. Would we? I'm not trying to be harsh but this is why people get flamed. I'm not flaming you but instead I'm educating you. If I already posted an answer in that thread... did you really feel that need to start another exact same thread? And did you honestly expect a different answer??? Think about how frustrating that is for me that has been spending hundreds of hours trying to get us s-off. Just take it into consideration next time.
However if you had searched for the term "Amaze s-off" you would have been presented with the following:
[Q] HTC.com dev unlock vs. S-Off in Amaze
[TOOL] Easy Perm Root One Click for 1.36 or earlier devices only (granted that it's not very helpful)
[Q] How to S=off on U.S version T-mobile
Everything S-OFF - Think tank, General information, Q&A
Any progress on S-off?
But you just stated "i didnt see any thread other than mikes"
How is that even possible??? What did you search for to NOT get any of the posts above??? I'm puzzled as to how you couldn't find them.

It's never going to be that easy because there will be another one exactly like this next week. It has to be a couple pages long to look serious enough for some one to read the first post.

Binary I respect your insight and your efforts here in this forum. There have been numerous posts recently speaking to the hostility and lack of basic decency here in the Amaze forum. I never experienced anything like this in the Hero forum. All I'm saying is that if people simply answer a question rather than "flame the noob" then this forum would be a whole lot better for it. It also would result in more useful hits coming up for people actually using the search button since the answers would be more plentiful. Flaming and rickrolling helps nobody.

To Coreym and others who thought this thread should be closed due to the "have been covered in Sticky" and Mod Red.
Firstly, I personally do not think this question has been covered in Sticky.
The OP asking about how to install CwM Recovery onto his phone retaining stock kernels, NOT custom kernel. Yes, I did ask the question and creepy has provided answer b4. Yes, ramos did ask the same question and got the answer, I'm sure there were one or two more in the room. Yes, it has been answered but NOT covered in the Sticky.
Secondly, I don't believe the OP should get any flame because he did do the search and did his homework, he just ran into some errors, that's why he asked for help. This is way different than others who not even do homework, haven't even tried on their system, but just asked for direction.
I believe in this case, the OP did do his best and asked for help, that's why I provided a suggestion to him, rather than flame.

I hope the OP or you don't take it that way.
Also maybe I read it wrong but it looks like he's trying to install CWM using codeworkx kernel.. which is a custom kernel, not stock. Even the instructions in the link he provided go back to installing a custom kernel.
Okay I just went back and don't see ANYWHERE where the OP is trying to install CWM while retaining stock kernel.. I guess I must be blind

I can not get recovery to work. The menu displays and when I pick a item from the menu I just get the top-hat screen and nothing. It can't find the sig.
I have searched this forum extensively..but I haven't found the answer.
I've put CM on my N1, Att Inspire and my short lived Skyrocket without any problems. But this time I am stumped, I can't get recovery to work.
I rooted the SGII using the Odin One Click..worked great.

I think thats in the binary yellow triangle thread or the other CWM thread... both linked from the sticky.
Red5 whats the deal with this thread? I was under the impression that this was already covered. After getting my post quoted and being told that the OP was trying to install CWM with his existing kernel, I went back and read the OP and followed his link. It seems to me that he is just trying to install CWM like we all have, using codeworkx kernel and not his existing kernel.
If that is the case, I guess I don't know why this thread hasn't been closed. Seems a little confusing to me (and probably others) as to what threads are allowed to stay and which ones aren't ... if we are talking about multiple threads with the same topic (installing CWM)..?
Not questioning your authority, just would like a little clarification.

Well, there was a decent conversation going on, until someone had to crap on it. Threads that just ask "how to install this?"are shut down because 99% is covered in the stickys or are linked in the stickys.
This thread had a decent conversation and I was waiting to make sure the user got the info he needed and was successful. Its called helping out. Once that takes place, the thread can be closed because there is no longer any need for any more discussion.
Its not beneficial to just automatically close every thread that pops up in the General or Q&A section. Even Devs started out as noobs at one point, so we need to be somewhat courteous in the offchance that the next noob might turn out to be a great dev in the future. The OP didnt seem like your ordinary noob that just wanted to be spoonfed, so I gave him the benefit of a doubt and left this open.

There was no sarcasm, that was the reason why. I gave you an honest answer. I dont think every thread should be closed and as I said, this thread had a decent conversation in it. With that, I took a look at the sticky and realized that I can modify it to better point out the issue that the OP had. Had I just closed the thread I never would have stumbled onto that.
Again, there was no sarcasm in my comment. I just wanted to help out a newer member and left this open for him.
lol.. you can honestly say that you weren't being sarcastic when you told me "its called helping out"
..normally anytime you put "it's called.." in front of ANYTHING other than a question asking what something is, it's being sarcastic.. just sayin.
I've been google searching and looking through forums for 3 hours and I'm not finding a good answer or answers close but I'm afraid to mess with it further without at least seeing if someone has a good idea for an easier fix.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 AT&T (SGH-i777) that was running ICS. I used odin3 v1.85 on my pc with Siyah-v3.4.2-nomswap-I777 to give me superuser. Phone worked fine for a day. Later I downloaded rommanager. I was wanting to make a backup of my rom but it asked me to install ClockworkMod. I went through and picked it and it downloaded/installed. Then I went to run the backup but rommanager hung and it wouldn't finish. I chose to "wait" for two times but then the third I force closed. When I tried to load rommanager up again it froze my phone. I pulled my battery out and tried to boot. I think I got the start screen with the yellow triangle and then black screen. I tried to power it on again and nothing. Then my screen did a very faint power on and off every 10 seconds until I pulled the battery out. I was able to get into the "odin mode" using the volume up/down + power. I tried to run the Siyah again just to see if it did anything but no dice
My fear was that I selected the wrong clockworkmod? I've tried finding finding the right clockworkmod that I can use with odin. I found recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.6-galaxys2att.zip but I'm afraid it isn't the right thing (isn't a tar file) and so I've not done anything as a result. Does this sound like i f'ed up in loading the wrong clockworkmod? Is there a tar file I can use with Odin to fix the mistake so the phone will boot/load? I assume if nothing else I can just load a custom rom or start fresh but, if possible, I would really like to repair my mistake so I can save some files and backup apps. Thanks for any help or ideas!

Wow...
Wow...first off thanks for being absolutely not helpful. You mean the sticky that tells me not to do what I already did? You mean the sticky that in none of the five pages of posts has an answer to my question or issue (really just a long rant about people who make a mistake)? You mean the sticky I didn't read because I was using a different (I know now in retrospect not so great) website? And I get berated because I visited this website three years ago to make one comment on a post about a windows mobile topic? Did you all get so many posts by antagonizing others asking for help and not posting much useful to the actual request? Unless I am wrong I posted in the "Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting" section of this website but from what I get so far I think it might be the "Place for snarky comments & unhelpful responses without reading a question".
In the hopes that someone wants to be helpful, I would really like to know if there is a way to fix the issue by using Odin to put the right clockworkmod recovery on the device. If so I appreciate any help on locating where I might find the right file. If this is an issue that can't be fixed and my only choice is to flash a new rom then that is helpful too. Thanks.

It's called you should research your problem before posting it. And the fact that you're trying to put cwm on there without flashing a kernel tells me that you need to do some reading up on this device before you so any kind of modding. Otherwise you'll end up with a paperweight.

Exactly. The fact that he's still saying he wants the"right"version of cwm means he still hasn't read the stickies or read enough about this device to make informed decisions. Just do some reading, and take your time. Not every device is the same. Don't want to end up messing yourself up. Which, as previously stated, could've been avoided . Good luck.
Thread Closed per OP request.

You can't. I see you have created 3 threads on that issue on different forums, so I think a mod can delete this thread if you want. And I think this should be only on the q/a forum so a mod should merge the thread from general thread into the one you have on q/a.

I'm saying, a moderator (mod) will do this for you. You can't do anything about it afaik.

oh ok i see thanks a lot :highfive:
second page already and no help for the guy?
Yeah dude wrong forum, your bad on that. But in the spirit of trying to fix a problem then add to it, i would advise that you go here and read the op and all instructions word for word and see if maybe the answer to getting you back up and going is in there. I suspect that this is the place to get the fix if the fix is something you can actually get.
A bit of advice. If you ain't made it you don't post it here. If there is a Question in the OP of your new thread then chances are you should be in the Q&A forum. Mistakes are honest and thats cool. This thread will be deleted or moved to Q&A by a mod and you will be able to live this horrible mistake down.
More advice unrealted to the location of the posting but more in regards to the content of the post.
Your bricked, ok well then goodluck. Oh wait you wanted help? I got ya, i was confused and thought you were just telling me about your bad day. See What people need to be able to help you is.... Details, over abundant details that are key to getting your stuff worked out.
Are you cdma? or gsm? I assume cdma cause your in the wrong section yet its still a cdma section.
What rom were you on?
What hboot number?
What was the last thing that you did right before you discovered your problem? If it was "fastboot oem writesecureflag 3" then stop posting throw the phone away and start anew with the next device. cause ye be burnt.
Details Details Details, if you think that it may be a random tidbit that's totally unrelated then make sure you include that in your DETAILS.
Tell us what instructions/thread you were following in your attempt to relock.
What steps worked and what didnt?
Hell tell us some other stuff it could be helpful in helping people help you.
Hope you can get it fixed, if not look for a broken screen device on ebay and do a board swap. Just make sure its got a good esn before you buy it.
And in addition, for all who posted in this thread, we all know that he made a mistake by posting in the wrong sections, but at least attempt to get him to not have to keep posting all over the place desperate for some help, by actually helping the guy. He said hes bricked. Well its got some function to it still so why did none of the people who posted to flame the guy actually take the 10 seconds to hit your browser back button and right click copy link on the UNBRICK thread then return here and post the link? Seriously guys show some sympathy and help your fellow forum goers out. This is a community of some some very very bright individuals and some not as brite or sorta dim newbs that are trying to learn things. Learning and discovering is the basis of the whole xda forums. Its really not that hard to just post a link and send dude another step into the right direction than to post one after another about how hes should have not been here asking for help. We all know that a mod will delete this crap anyways so why the hell not just post a helpful link or some sensible advice and move on with your day?
Come on we can do better than that.

Well I would attempt to get your pc fix fixed or use a buddys with a live cd or load up the needed files and stuff onto a usb flash drive and go to your local walmart or bestbuy or whatever and do some sneaky stuff and get on there demo pcs and wreck some sh*t. I used to get a kick outtta rooting display models at bestbuy and installing CM to them. Ya know for fun.
i've replied on the thread you posted in the q & a section. please reply so I can help you.

Hey OP this is the guy who can get you fixed up. I've been around the 3d dev section every day of my life for the last 2 years and he is one who honestly knows his stuff. Get on the offer while its standing. I got alot on my plate and I'm more instruction follower than instruction giver but I will look up your other posts a little later and see if I may be able to lend some help. Good luck I hope it works out for the best.
Next time you sell a rooted phone just flash an ruu or the equivalent and smile at the buyer. If they know about root and what it is they will be happy its rooted if they dont know then they will probably never find out cause they aint gonna be pulling no complex key combos to boot the bootloader to see your root/soff unlock/lock status.
