OP) updated 120619.Post 5) updated 120617. Any help you can contribute is highly welcome. I will keep you updated while working on it and give access for everyone "as is".
1v02.0) Premiss:
1.1.v01.0) Intent of this thread:
- to create a common basis and "reckognized" guideline for a standardised
Code:
setup from scratch of the Asus TF201 for everybody. So user utilising this thread as a tool either (hopefully) enjoy their device afterwards and never come back here, or they are able to compare results and actions of their tf201 on referencing ground and nail its presumable weak spot
- to develop some testing scenarios and simple test environments for home, on the road and wherever for reproducable results.
- with the aim to make experience vary less and gain substantial test-results throughout the community
- to give every member of XDA the possibility to contribute scientific information to the highly qualified and overworked Asus staff
- to laugh about your jokes and be happy when I go to bed a little later than my beloved ones
- there could be other useful or nice sideeffects out of the initial blast and future on topic fussing as some intelligent members already have proven in this thread.
1.2.v01.0) Backgroundinformation
Due to the preliminary confusion caused by my intuitive and snappy approach and some second thoughts I acknowledge my noobness and apologize to everybody psychologicaly involved in it. I wanted to make this going quickly but then I am not a very quick thinker, I guess. So you see my dilemma. I see we are already on track and comments until today made me wonder if I should get rid or change my FAQ and posts archive. I figure my system limits it naturally.
The thread might get reorganised during times as I try to keep up with you guys who cannot resist posting. Great it probably will be easier than I thought.
But since also my days end regularly I just hope the hype ends. Any good findings and pinpointing bull, that's cool gals and will lead eventually to something usable.
Remind you: the quicker you post, the more I fall behind and struggle with ideas and facts. So I'd rather have you pm me.
But I surely do appreciate your criticism, corrections of facts or corrections of my hillbilly english or any comment. I want this a real fun tool as I plan to spend some time with it. Obviously there will be a lot of noobness and room for misunderstandings and -interpretions. I am looking forward to the discussion and every single post. Since I am used to fall behind.
- My (If) call for help or feedback will be on top of this post.
- The elementary information starts in post #2
- Hot spot is post #3
- Threadhistory in post #4
- My (If) feedback on your feedback is in post #5.
- My status is in post #6
1.3.v02.1) Note:
As people seem to be shy and feel uncomfortable when explicitly asked to pm and not to post I apologise and hope many replies will put that guide together quickly. Personally I still prefer pms especially if you want me to fled off, I have stolen your ideas or you don't like the color of my hair: Please, pm me. If you don't like my language, well I am no native but trying to be substantial and open for accurate corrections. I leave post #6 which shows my preferences, as a booby-trap for trolls and whinners. Of course you can post in my thread but only on topic Read post #6 and be warned. Any comment on post #6 exposes itself and saves me a lot of time. Let's see if this works how I figured it out vaguely.
P.S.
And you know all this stuff about reliabilty. Devices vary, so no guarantee yours doesn't blow up. If it breaks, sorry it happens. Mine's still alive and as quick as it can run on the presumably wrong stock code. Let me cite antutu which scores around 13200 points on 1.28. Around 1500 Points more than the previous build. By no means I will say this is the only way of checking, testing and setting up your tf201 or that I am always right. But I am convinced if you let me put my hand on the flamed devices I would fix most of the so called software-flaws and bugs people are experiencing. Software is x'n'o's and works potentionally forever if it works. It will do the same on any similar sister hardware. If you change or add something within this software or add another software, there will be hundreds of ways the original software can brake. Unfortunately only a few to get back to normal.
So read my contribution to the thread: If you are stuck with your problem: Go for that pinhole next to the microsd-card. It works wonders. Turn off the device by pushing the pin for 30 seconds and then wait for the boot. Do a reboot, maybe two and you hopefully be better. To be sure: start from scratch following this thread when it's here. Everything mentioned in my posts is based on my personal experience with the tf201 and other devices, the huge amount of information in xda or elsewhere and input from real cracks and specialists which hopefully join in.
Maybe I ridicule myself, so be it. I give it a go and guess that's fine with the mods too since this will be a joyride for them too!
2) Prerequisits:
- Electricity
- Transformer Prime TF201, stock rom
- Asus ac-connector
- Asus usb-cable
3) Setup (draft):
Whenever you start playing with a new tf201 and a new softwarerelease or rom:
Let the device start up, and first of all make sure you do a reset. By pushing a pin into the pinhole next to the microsd-card slot for 30 seconds you will get rid of old os-intern data debunked all over your device without loosing any of your downloaded progs or added data.
- After this you get a clean start and all os specific values and parameters are deleted. The clean os now is freshly pushing required data to the different services and applications in the appropriate manner it requires it.
- Now make sure you let your device reboot twice and start every loaded application once to set it up as requested.
- Reboot one more time. The tf201 is now ready to work/ play/ cuddle.
(This is how it should be. Experience varys as tf201 do).

Update 120618
1) Premiss:
After just having jumped on the android train and coming from constructing buildings I see that our forum is missing some solid ground.
So I figure I'll have to start working on it. [Update]To keep the information compact I have posted several posts in a row. The thread might get reorganised in time.[/Update]
Anyone who is interested in something hopefully useful can subscribe to this thread and send me a pm to let me know that they did, I would appreciate such info.
If I get no pms I won't know someone cares and I will just go my pace (which I will do anyway).

If you abuse my thread to flame, blame or mob your boss, retailer, dog or whomever, so please don't post in this thread, pm me. Unless I cry for feedback. Which will be made obvious in the first line of this thread.
If you can't keep away form posting, stay on topic or your post will be deleted as Diamondback is watching you. If you think this is silly feel also free to pm me [/B] but don't post, see 'off topic postings before'.
So: best is you don't post anything, pm me.

FIRST POST! W00T!!
Sorry, couldn't resist
My understanding was this is a forum i.e. somewhere where people discussed things. How does it work if someone disagrees with what you say? PM you and you will take it under consideration?
What you are trying to achieve may be useful. However, if you want to keep it limited to your input only why don't you start a blog and post a link?

I agree with the "First Poster" First you come in and insult the forum saying it is "missing solid ground", then grab a bunch of space to "go at your own pace"?
You created a thread for your "Todo" list? And started it up without contributing anything to the forum, and tell us we can't post to the thread, that it's a soapbox for you and only you? Seriously, why DON'T you start a blog on the Transformer Prime (to go with the 800 others out there) and DON'T post a link. I could understand if you had some great info to put up, and wanted to add to it later, but this is plain useless. Now please delete my post.
There is LOTS of information regarding "Setup and Testing" of TF101, going back over 6 months. Did you try seraching the forum, or is it you are not interested in what anyone else has to say, but rather just what YOU plan to post... later... when you get around to it - (the suspense is killing people everywhere.) in a General Info Forum... where you have yet to post anything remotely useful...
hmmm.

i've seen various threads being deleted because they were placeholders for stuff that's upcoming/under construction which is against the xda policy .....
So yes , i agree, gogo DiamondBack
i will give OP, benefit of doubt. in good spirit, Lets checkout what he wants to share...
but why create a thread when your not ready with material to share... ? you can create a thread tomorrow/day after/whenever ur ready with some substance.

While I like your idea, two things that you should know/correct:
-You dont need to hold the soft reset pinole for 30 seconds, once it's push it does the same thing.
-Pushing the pinhole resets the way Prime, however, this fresh boot will only last for a short period of time. So, any apps that were giving you isses before, will give you the SMAME issue again. This has been discussed already and proven. The I/O schedule is also not fixed by simply pushing the pinhole, it's just "started over"
You should copy confirmed working info from throughout the avaialble threads if you are trying to help people, tht will be more benificial for "new owners. The Prime's main issue seems to stem from the I/O scheduler, plus a few incompatible apps, so people observe which apps causes issues and remove them. Also, the next update "should" fix the I/O issue by giving priority to the foreground running applictions.
The Pin-hole in our Primes doesn't get rid of any OS Data, it is just a way to reset the Prime in a hardware-fashion since we cant remove the battery. If the OS completely freezed a software reset wont work, and since we have no way of remove the battery a solution had to be implemented
The Cold Boot option in the boot menu is pretty much just like turning the Prime off and then turning it on again. So far I'm not ware of a way to clear all caches with a Stock Prime.
If you are unsure, turn off the Prime, and measure the time it takes to boot when using pin hole option, cold boot option and normal. If any cache would be deleted it would take twice the time, since it would be building all the Dalvik/Cache files again. As far as I know, it always takes the same time to boot up, doesnt matter which option you choose.

I am one who always tries to respect the rules on xda, but the number of useless threads in the transformer prime section is starting to make finding useful information nearly impossible and giving me this terrible urge to start flaming people! I'm still resisting the urge so I will not be flaming here, nor sending you a pm but will pm the mods to try to get a reduction in this sort of rubbish posting....
Thanks for your wonderful tip here, i had really never realised I needed those three things together at the same time, but I don't think I'll be clicking the thanks button just yet....

So can someone explain me what the hell this thread is?
It's a placeholder for upcoming information of unknown nature?
And then you say that you don't want any posts here... But why? This is a forum, so it's made to discuss stuff. You might got the idea from the Asus sticky I made, but that had a good reason and I really don't see such a reason here.
Can someone please enlighten me if I miss something substantial?

I just got my Nook Tablet 2 days ago and am very frustrated by the lack of instruction that I am finding on the internet about using this.
I know how to buy books and to change settings. I have my gmail set up but I cannot figure out the internet portion of this. For some reason the facebook login page was made to be my homepage and I have tried to change it many times....didn't work through settings. Also, while in facebook, I do not see "chat" or who is currently online. Am I doing something wrong? I did not see fb as an app in the app store.
I also have been looking at your lists of apps that everyone has added to their NT. Again, I am frustrated because I do not know what any of you are talking about. I am no techie!
Please help me out here or this thing is going back.
Joyce
If you go over to the B&N website and click on support for the Nook Tablet, you will get links to a dedicated 200 page user manual in pdf. Hopefully that might answer some of your questions.
I have read the manual and it does not give specifics for fb.
I don't think chat is an option with the mobile fb site. Also, the fb app is not available through the market on the nook. There is a fb apk file in the "must have apps" thread here, but not sure if it has chat either.
One thing Barnes and Noble has over Amazon is an actual store.
If you take your NT to the store, someone there should be able to help you set it up the way you want.
In your case specifically, I would recommend ignoring postings about side loading and rooting until you have quite a bit of experience using the stock Nook. You will avoid a lot of frustration that way.
The Alps listed in the "must have" are pretty easy to install and use. Just go to that page from the browser on your nt and click on the link(s). You'll see a little arrow in your notification area, click that and choose the package installer. At some point you'll need to check to OK installing non-market apps. Once you've installed the apps, you can get to them by seaching from the nooks search function. I would recommed installing the Amazon market and buying wave launcher. It will let you access up to 12 apps by swiping a finger, and you can also access all your apps through an app drawer that way too.

I think the OP has received several helpful replies to their problem.
As for the forum itself, I'm new and my experience has been that each of my polite inquiries have received responses, including help side-loading, rooting, and issues with default ringtones.
Perhaps insulting those who are in no hurry to get on Skype and talk to someone they've never met, is a questionable approach. Just a thought.

"Meet" is probably the wrong word. In this sense it would be seeing a number of posts from a user to get a feel for how they deal with others, how knowledgable they are, etc.
You have no doubt seen posts from people which gave you a strong desire to have no interaction with them at all. That kind of thing.
In the very short time I've been watching these forums I've already seen several people jump in with an extremely demanding attitude. Like somehow they're entitled to everyone's immediate help.
Where does that come from? This isn't a Barnes & Noble site. These people aren't paid by B&N. Coming in demanding help seems like the wrong tack to take. If someone is looking to rant about the device they'd probably be more successful going into a B&N store.
Similarly, if you want detailed help on formatting epubs then perhaps a reader-specific forum might be more useful. Something like the Calibre forums maybe. Yes, the Nook Tablet is a reader but the vast majority of the posts here gear towards to the Android tablet side of the device--not the e-reader side.

Dude. EVERYONE I talk to ends up enjoying themselves.
Everyone claims they like people so much. Cell phones are flying off the shelves, Skype is more popular than ever--even Gmail has a BUILT IN PHONE--but we're afraid to call "strangers" or "random internet people" because they could be p*****s, so how can you convince me that you really like people when you're so afraid of them? Who are people calling? Who are you calling? People who already agree with you? Sounds like a boring life to me.

Dude, maybe people don't want to take time out of their day to be your personal nook/android tutor when literally every single person has figured **** out themselves by either using the forum search function or using Google. If you used your time to do research instead of writing long rambling posts, you would already be way ahead of where you are now regarding knowledge. Seriously, everything you ever wanted to know about android is at your fingertips, you just need to put the work in yourself.
Please don't feed the troll.
Wow.

In regards to the op... he did seem to come into a technical forum to attemp to figure out very basic usage information. Read a few threads here and im sure youll pick up some things. I had to google a lot of acronyms and things last week to get up to speed. Kexec, cwm, etc. You'll pick it up. Just keep reading!
I think this has been one off the nicer forums on here, and and I'm proud to be a part of it.
In general augustusbot is 100% correct. This is a forum for modding not for basic usage, the problem though is in general there is no good manual for any android device. The fact that Barnes and Noble has physical stores is great, it is their job to show you how to use your device.

jdubr is just being polite. Nobody wants to talk to you because you behave like a b**t on this forum. The internet is a place full of normal people, but it has its fair share of we****s/a*****es. And we know very little about a person other than what we can discern from their online behaviour. From your prior posts, I personally find you a "***** ******** ******". And I believe most other people would feel the same way. That's why no one wants to talk to you. Try cooling off, then going through your previous posts and looking at them objectively. See if this happens in real life, or in other forums/personal interactions.
It's well and good saying you are well-liked. But based on the evidence we see, it seems to be the opposite. Nobody owes you information, or help. Anything anyone provides here is a gift, yet you demand it and complain when you don't get it.
It's true that information on forums isn't always very organised. But that's just the way they function. There ARE efforts to make it neater. But sometimes the developers/etc are too busy trying to figure out higher level problems to neaten up their work for a beginner to follow. In any case, they don't owe it to you, me, or anyone else.
I'm sure the developers would be more than happy to have people put up tutorial videos for them. But you have to ask nicely, and put in your own effort as well. The effort taken to develop/program/code is immense. To make things fair, how about putting in some of your own effort rather than adding to their load by asking them to simplify/explain everything in a beginner friendly manner?
To the OP, Joyce, there are various FB chat programs on the Android Market, you can try them instead of the official FB app. Also, there is some information on the Android Development Subforum about changing your screen dpi to 160, which may allow you to see the normal FB app on market. But that aspect is not fully firmed up yet, so you might want to wait a week or two till they have it stable.
As for "must have" apps, if you are new to Android, try downloading some of them which sound good, and try them for yourself. What others find good, may not work well for you. And part of the fun is exploring the Market to find apps that fit your purposes well, even if they aren't particularly popular. Try reading the descriptions and reviews on the Market for a quick feel of how the app works.
THREAD CLOSED.
I feel the OP was answered and purpose of the thread satisfied. So, thread closed.
Everyone be noticed that.

Been using the TF101 since it first came out. Been using cornerstone on CM9 for a couple weeks as my daily driver. Stable as hell despite what people are saying about it. Hasn't crashed once on me. Wifi connects super fast going from network to network. Apps working just fine.
Been wanting to upgrade to the prime. Now that I've tasted cornerstone, I can't imagine ever going back to normal android.
Please don't kill me. I've been searching around but can't seem to find any info for my question.
Has any dev put cornerstone on a rom for the prime yet? This is a deal breaker for me. I won't get a prime until I know for sure I can get cornerstone on it.
Been asked 124567889 times.... Why opening a new thread for those kind of demands?
And if you didn't found an answer, why not considering that... there is no answer?
Better ask to cm9 devs, but the golden rule is NO ETA ASKING!

You have some serious reading comprehension issue here. At no point did I even hint at asking for an ETA or demand for cornerstone. Having been a dev myself...
I did a search. Couldn't find it. This is a question forum. Thought I'd ask since I haven't been keeping up with prime stuff. A simple no would have been fine. No need to demonstrate your lack of English comprehension skills.
All I'm asking if anyone has put cornerstone into a rom for the prime yet. If no, then fine. They can take their time. If it will never come to be, then so be it. Again, no need to show us how terrible you are at the English language. Capice?

"We wanted to do a followup post on CM and CS, since there was a lot of excitement over the past few days.
Cornerstone is not ready If we could make this larger and fiery red, we would.
# The code is still in its infancy (version .8).
# There are very legitimate concerns surrounding just how to solve compatibility issues with the thousands of applications in the market.
# We drew the attention of Google engineer(s), who have rightfully pointed out concerns (thank them for taking the time) - comments can be read on Cyanogen's re-share of the original post. If you choose to comment, do so intelligently and in a civil manner!
# We've also contacted the original developers for input and consultation.
Edit # And now Onskreens CEO is weighing in on the discussion
All said, there are many hurdles to overcome before Cornerstone is merged into CM9, if at all. We ask that you realize this, and see blog posts and pictures and alphas as merely technical proof of concepts, and nothing more. Frankly, we are months out from CS being ready, and it'll likely take longer to address all the concerns."
Me perhaps having problems to speak good english but me know to search.

Wow, just wow.
Your response reminds me of those responses I get from tech support personnel that are sitting in India. They just give you canned responses and after a while you start getting a feeling they're reading a script instead of talking to you.
As I've said before. I've been using cornerstone on the TF101 for over 2 weeks now. No crash at all. No compatibility issue. Very stable. Wifi connects super fast. Amazing battery life.
My question was specifically pertaining to the TF201. And then you tried to make a come back with a quote about cornerstone in a general sense among android devices.
If you're going to make a come back, try to do better than that.
I don't care if you're from france. Try to brush up on your English comprehension before you start giving smart-ass answers.
But in short, I get it. The answer is no, there's no cornerstone on the TF201 yet. I may never ever see it on the TF201. And that's fine. The TF101 serves my purpose for now.
Added by edit.
I have a friend from France. He makes fun of my Asian accent terrible driving skills and I make fun of his barely understandable French accent. But we're very close. You and I are not that close yet.
Ok after a dozen of the same posts, complaints, observations posted over the last little while hopefully people will read this and stop posting new (read useless) threads.
HALP! my browser / launcher / whatever isnt as fast as my phone!
Yes, different devices, different reactions. The same way two different cars may react differently the stock browser on the prime and on your nexus s, htc, samsung, etc. will react differently.
It is no secret that the stock browser and stock launcher can be laggy at times. If you dont like it try a different launcher and different browser.
To do a proper comparison between two different devices you should load the same launcher and same browser on both devices. Please stop and think before posting "my phone is faster than this %$#@ prime" threads, do proper tests, know that we know the launcher and browser are slow, and use one of the suggested solutions.
OMFG! Da prime is discontinued!
At least three threads i have been in TODAY have people speculating the prime is discontinued. "An asus employee told me, my store stopped recieving stock, my local store has them on clearance"
As of this date there has been no official word from Asus reguarding the status of the prime. Please do not post threads about this unless there is something official, or you have proof.
Actually, know what? please just dont post these kinds of threads. Speculation never got anyone anywhere.
WTF! My GPS / / Wifi works / doesnt work
Ok, we pretty much all know at this point the wifi and gps are crap on the prime. Some people have better than others, some people find weird solutions.
Im personally convinced there are several plecibo fixes (you THINK they work because you WANT them to work). There is yet to be found a fix that works for everyone, aside from having wires hanging out of the prime. Lots of threads about this, read the "opened my prime" thread (all 100+ pages of it) lots of good info.
I WANT ROOT, WHY CANT I HAS ROOT! .21 issues...
Ok, seriously? Few things i gotta clear up...
Just because its easy to root ONE android device does not mean its easy to root ALL android devices. Also consider we HAD root before .21 which was a pretty good effort from the devs. Asus patched the hole used to root, now we need to find another way. Complaining will not get us root faster. Yes, we all know you want to root your prime, just give devs time to figure it out.
CAN I HAS UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER AND KEEP MY WARRENTY TOO?
No. just no.
The reason its easier with samsung devices is because samsung does not lock their bootloaders and actually gives us the tools to flash new kernls / roms to our phones. Asus does not do this, in fact they try to make it hard on us. The only way to unlock at this point is to send your serial to asus, they do some fun math with it, and send you an unlock code. Deal with it, use the unlock asus gave us or dont unlock at all.
HOW DOES I GET GPS DONGLE?
The GPS dongle was prematurely leaked. It will be officially announced when its ready, not a moment before.
Basically, when its ready you can register your serial nubmer with asus, they will send you a GPS attachment (fixes to the dock connector on the prime), should be available in the next week or so, stay tuned. VIP.asus.com, should be announced April 16 (ish), expect a month to have it ship once they have your info. Should be free for every prime owner.
OH LOOK! SHINY PRIME SUCKS/ROCKS COMPARED TO ______
For serious? Because there are not enough comparison threads already (use the search, its what its there for) you had to make another? If we want comparisons we can easially search youtube, there are literally dozens of em. Sure its nice to know how this device stacks up against another but there has got to be a thread you can post in already, no need to make another one. (Also, warning, you may get banned, just sayin)
Thanks for taking the time to read this, may your future posts be constructive and benefit the community!
You might want to add the stupid comparison threads although those have all been b& recently.

It wouldn't be so bad if there was one of each of them but as soon as one pops up 15 more pop up. For a certain period of time I only went into the dev section because it was a huge flame war about prime vs iPad...

I'm confused, my gps sucks, wifi stinks, I want my gps dongle, my Prime is laggy compared to my HTC Aria and my Prime kicks the new iPads ass.
Should I go ahead and make separate posts for each problem?
Oh ya, here's my home screen.
Thanks for the thread .
There should be like an Android quiz before you are able to post (newbs can still register and read) new questions.
Kinda like a Sgt's exam for cops or something similar.
Something not too hard but will require some sort of experience and/or common sense with regards to Android devices.
Updated to include comparison threads.
Lol Nefariouss sorry you think its useless, i was hoping that people might read this thread and know not to post the same types of threads we see pretty much on a daily basis here. If you do not tire of the same quesitons being asked or the same statments being posted every day you are much more patient than I, and I commend you. Well done!
scataldo721 ya, sad isnt it? however it would be a much better place donchya think?
theandies: Lol, thanks for the chuckle.
admartian: I agree, however then we wouldnt have half the posts on the forum, there would be a lot less spamming and flaming, people might treat each other with respect, use the search button, and post relitive topics!..... we cant have that now can we

In response to your comment, you need to understand a few things. Most moderators have more then 1 forum to police. Typically each moderator has between 4-10 forums.
Moderators do not look at each and every thread or post, every single day. It's impossible considering it's a volunteer job, and most Mods have jobs and families. And there really shouldn't be a need to on most occasions if people "behave" themselves.
Nor do most mods know a lot about the devices they are assigned to enough to be called an expert in that device. There's no need, as most have dev of their own, and know a lot of the practices which are similar.
With mods, roms or hacks, if the program causes more issues than usual, it needs to be brought to a Mod's attention. If it isn't then the responsibility lies on the users of the forum for not reporting it. As I stated, it's not our job to look at every individual post.
Reporting a post or thread is pretty simple. There's a "report post" in each post title bar. Also, in each main forum, the mods are listed at the bottom right of the page.
As with this "pudding" thread, it was only reported this morning as far as I know. Also remember, a lot of bricked devices, are also due to not following instructions, and not necessarily the hack or app. But if the app bricks devices right and left, it needs to be brought to a mods attention. Not just post useless comments in the thread.
So the responsibility of reporting these things, lies with the users of the forum. If it's not reported, then nothing happens.
Thanks for understanding this.

Really, we mods rely on the more experienced users to help. ie: I have no idea which kernels for the Photon are GPL compliant for example. I would hope that the more experienced users would know and report them. Yes, it happens quite often
And one more thing, if a mod closes or deletes a thread, or assigns infraction points, a user "can" send a PM to that mod and argue their position. Sometimes, it's more of a misunderstanding.

Howdy folks.
I enjoy being able to help out around here, I really do. But I think it's time for me to take a step back. Being on here shouldn't be stressful; it should be fun. This is my hobby; it's supposed to be fun. But when I go through a lot of trouble to put information in my posts and try to explain things, only to have people ask questions that have been answered over and over again, it gets extremely frustrating. I understand not everyone has the same aptitude for this stuff, but anyone that decides to be here has chosen to learn more about their device. They want to get the most out of it. To do that, will require reading and learning. Searching. Reading more. I just want to encourage everyone that wants to learn to read. And if you don't want to learn - if you just want quick answers to quick problems - then you may be in the wrong place. I think there are other, more "noob-friendly" forums, but this place is where the information gets deep. So while you might not know how to do everything, or understand what all the terms mean, at least give it a shot if you're going to be here. This community is built by people that may have started out knowing nothing (like me), but after years of reading and learning, they find ways to contribute. I hope someday everyone can get to that point. I hope that I've helped some of you get there.
But I am daily inundated with PMs of questions answered in the forum. I am not a shortcut to prevent you from having to search. My time is valuable, just like everyone else's. Use the forum. That's what it's here for. It's how I learned.
I'll probably still pop in here and there, but I'm going to try to be around less. I just see a lot of arbitrary information being spoken, information incorrect and not fact-based, and it frustrates me. So, maybe once my frustration dies down, I'll be more inclined to contribute more, but right now, I think it's time for a break.
I want to personally thank you for all that you have done for the community, and me.
Thanks CT.
Thanks for all your hard work, Cap. Take a break & get some rest.

+1. Thank you Captain.
Some of us are eternally grateful for your contributions. Thank you sir and enjoy your free time. You've certainly earned it.

I think that there are enough knowledgeable folks around here to handle things while you are gone. I try to answer the redundant questions, but you're just fast at answering them, too. Enjoy your break.
Suggestion: don't "try" to be around less...just don't.
Internet is serious business. Get well soon.
Sorry to hear Captain. Thanks for all the help over the last few years. You've gotten me out of a few pickles. I hope to see you around these parts again.
Hey Captain- You are one of the many devs I have great admiration and respect for, due to your patience and willingness to help those whom are less informed. It's part of what makes you a good person. Forums are forums. I belong to so many ranging in every subject. There are those whom take shortcuts, and those whom respect the rules and follow them.
From my experience, I can't stay away even when frustrated. A lot of the peeps on the forums I consider friends, or close associates even though I never met them. Those are the peeps keeping me coming back.
So, I encourage you to do what's best for you. But, if you're anything like me, you'll ignore the ignorant, and continue to help, as that's what your gift is. Thank you.

thanks for your time and efforts.

Thank you Captain for everything you have done for the community. I remember you being the man since the OG Evo days. I know if you post something, it can be trusted. It is sad when something you love becomes a daily function and no longer is a passion. I never post on these threads, but when I see developers like Sin and Captain looking to walk away from their passion due to the frustration from US, so it is time to THINK BEFORE WE POST. We need to take a step back and solve our own issues on the forums. It is all there on the threads, but we chose to take the easy road and ask simple question instead of taking 5 minutes to google key words or read the thread entirely. I have learned so much from Capt. and Sin and many others like them. I see that they both want a break and they very much deserve time away from the critics as well. We do ask the same questions a half a dozen times within a 50 pg. thread. I have played with my phones just to see it tick from the good old Evo Supersonic (god bless my first love that lead me into these forums) and my current love the Evo Jewel. I look back and have loved bricking my phone, so I can dig deep into these forums and fix. It took me 30 hours of my time researching and yes wanting to throw through a window, but I finally fixed and that was an awesome feeling. The nice thing is that I learned from reading forum or from googling. I never will forget how to unbrick a phone or the tools that allowed me get it working once again. Thank you gentlemen for all your hard work. Enjoy your much needed time off JIM

I couldn't say it any better. I have been following captain's 4.3 stock thread as well as chubbz 4.3 5.5 thread since day one. I'm relatively new to this and they have explained stuff in ways that I can understand and if I can't I go to google first. I very rarely post a question without doing any searching. These devs work their ass off to provide ways to make our devices better and what they get in return are ungreatful comments or complaints and the same question being asked. Sometimes it looks like the repeated question was literally a copy/paste job. Seriously the devs shouldn't have to hold our hands. Let's be big kids and not frustrate our devs anymore. They don't deserve it. Search before you post please. I don't want to lose the great devs and be stuck with the jewel without the option to make it better.

Thank you Captain.
Every device forum here on XDA is full of grievances from developers or faithful patrons about the frequency of redundant questions, stupidity, laziness, etc. It seems like it has always been this way to some extent but may be getting worse lately. Let's face it, early adopters are more likely to be technophiles and take the time to do more research. The older the device gets, the cheaper and more accessible it becomes and customers that just bought the cheapest cool phone they could are going to start popping up. We're fortunate there are still good devs spending time on this device and that HTC even put out a new update this late in the game for the devs to work with.
Developers have various ways of coping with this frustrating behavior but the end result always tends to be isolationism. Doesn't that indicate the system is broken? Shouldn't there be better controls in place to limit this behavior? I think the mods do the best they can with the resources and rules available to them but maybe people like me should relegated to being a fly on the wall only being able to read the discussions between developers. If non-devs are going to be allowed to post, perhaps the number of posts should be limited to a couple per week/month/whatever and increased based on some merit based system. That will confer some value to the posts you make so they aren't wasted on something you could have searched for. It is too easy to just ask the question without searching. Conversely, a more robust DEmerit system could be implemented. If you post a stupid question instead of everyone flaming you, they get to hit a "demerit" button and once you hit a threshold you can't post again for a week/month/whatever. If you flame someone anyways and people think you're too harsh, they get to demerit you. Maybe the devs should have to invite you to be a member in order to gain access to posting privileges. Envision it working like a private torrenting site. You're responsible for the people you invite and if you leech way more than you seed both you and the person that invited you get penalized.
I thought the introduction of the "Original Android Development" forum was going to be limited solely to developers and I think that was the intent but it didn't really work out that way. I think the developers should get to have an adults' table to eat at with the rest of us sitting at the kids' table (and I'm 36) until we're old enough or prove we're mature enough to get invited over. Until then we just have to hope we get to overhear some interesting stories or dirty jokes coming from the other table.
Just my 2 cents.
Thanks Captain and all the other devs for making my devices more interesting.
