Hey, so I was wondering quite a long time now (and I haven't found an answer), when I am changing either Rom or just want to wipe data/cache/dalvik cache... will the scripts I installed disappear ? Do I have to reinstall them ?

If you install another ROM you'll have to reinstall them. If you are wiping, you don't have to, because you are wiping them user's data not the system data.

First of all sorry for my bad language
I've a Lg 2x (Aka Optimus Dual) temasek's UNOFFICIAL BUILD, now i saw an update from temasek. I'm asking how i can install the new room file as a simple update without losing any app/contact etc.
Well if it's possible what's the correct way to do an update of a custom Rom ?
Very thanks,
Sorry for the question but i've googled and nothing, also searched here but nothing
if its a update of the same build jus erase cache and dalvik cache and install the rom. then ur data remains untouched. but if the rom is different u need to full wipe. data will be lost. but u can sync contacts to gmail and retrieve back any time.

What does errase cache and dalvik cache do? Does the settings stay the same or do you have to set them again when you update? If it delets settings...can you update without errasing cache?
Nope...clearing cache and dalvik cache only wipes unimportant info...your settings will be there as long as you don't press factory reset...

exactly. but look for the requirements for the update. sometimes even updates may require data wipe if the dev states it.

All the above is good and true. I'd like to add that I always make a ROM backup with ROM Manager before I update my ROM. That way, if something should go wrong, I can get back to where I was before the update.

Dude you could just install Titanium Backup from the play store and back up all the apps and data you want to. And yeah, your device needs to be rooted. Cheers.
I m using an X.Mini on Mesa Kernel 1.4 and stock rooted ICS.
I uninstalled Sony s crap,I restored my apps with Titanium Root,
rebooted, wiped dalvik cache but now I m getting the message that Android is upgrading and starting applications on every boot.
Plus it takes more than usual to complete each restart.
So,what should I do?
Maybe wipe cache partition?
There must be a solution!

Wiping (dalvik) cache causes it to happen.
Not only dalvick cache buddy, dats ICS problem... yhu only get tha scanning applications when yhu wipe dalvick cache!!!
So,what can I do to fix it?

if yhu delete TB odex, it wont work but try it & lets know....!
The odex delete didn't work.
The Titanium uninstallation/installation was what did the trick, though!
Hope I helped someone else too!
BTW,reboot took 65 sec in total.

Me too, I don't quite understand what happened. It looks like your dalvik cache gets wiped every time you restart. However I don't think Titanium Backup has that behavior. Maybe you created a bug when you deleted some system apps? It's difficult to remove system apps since the install is odexed by default AFAIK.

If you use Systemapp Remover (paid app) it will handle that for you.
@OP and anyone else, yes, if TB is messed up it can cause the wipe of dalvik cache on every reboot. No it is not a setting, but if you messed with an app with out deleting the odex then yes it can screw up things on you cache. But thats not because you deleted the app with out odex, it would mainly be the way TB handles that leftover odex. Most likely it just leaves it there.
Best thing to do is reinstall TB, if it happens again, boot to cwm, wipe cache and dalvik, then fix permissions. After first reboot, wait for system to settle then reboot once more just to check its not doing it. Then go into TB, just run it. Don't delete any apps, then reboot again, with TB running in the background and see if it happens again.
If it does then it is a problem with either that TB version, or with your .apk. so either download it again or try a different version. Or wait for an update.
Another possibility is the way your rom is handling TB removing apps. In which case you rom is messed or again its the TB version not working correctly for your fw.
Cheer, hope I helped,
Evil.
I don't understand the technical aspect of this but in practice it did work!

Dats ICS Feature.....
for me the best way possible to solved this problem is to disable TB from auto-backup your apps....also it will be more practical to fix permisson (using Rom Manager & etc) after you have restore a backup from TB....
while i do have TB on my phone, i prefer to use SystemApp Remover (paid apps) cause it is a simple apps for remove/backup your apps....
I want to move from stock odex ROM to a deoxed version. I am currently running odex rooted stock OTA 1.22.651.3 (from xHaus). Can I flash the deodexed ROM over mine without wiping? I know that I can TI Backup all of my apps if I need to wipe, but it would be simpler to flash over if possible.
Thanks.

Things like contact linking are a pain to get right. There isn't a major problem with wiping; I was just asking to try to save myself some trouble if it was possible.
Wipe it is.
if your wanting to save yourself some trouble then always do a factory reset, wipe cache and dalvik cache. just a good way of making sure you always get a clean install. thats what i always do. and especially if im home on my wifi cuz all my apps and such download in about 3-4 mins and ur good.

You're not saving yourself trouble, You're creating potential head aches in the future by not wiping. I always do a full wipe and I only use TB to restore a few apps like games that I don't want to lose data from. It takes a little longer but you'll have far less issues in the end. I'm convinced the majority of the issues people have in these rom threads are from just flashing without wiping anything and/or using TB to restore all apps + data.
Hello.
I have Omega v12 ROM installed.
But i want to install it again using "Remove Bloatware" option. I dont want any other method of this and i just want to install it again.
So heres my question->
How do i reinstall it without loosing my apps and apps data and rest of things?
You should be able to re-install over the top and remove all the bloatware
Just wipe Dalvik & Cache before install

But please tell me this only if you are full sure.
I dont want my any type of app or its data to be removed.
PS-> I cant use backup app, can tell reason. But if possible, please tell me without it.
I just want to know that whether reinstalling Omega removes my data or not
I'm sure
It is stated in the v12 change log it is a "no full wipe rom"
See the Omega discription on what is ment by "No Full Wipe Roms"

Do one thing..open the zip file..use 7zip.open the meta-INF FOLDER...open com》Google》android and use notepad++ to open updater script..now use search to find words format/delete..if the updater script deletes the /data partition your internal data will be wiped..otherwise just flash it over the current Rom with dalvik and cache wipe before and after flashing..

I've tried several ROMs on my Neo MT15i, rooted, unlocked bootloader, alliance kernel 1.5, firmware .587. Now I'm on Thilinac Ice cream pureness 14 sp1. Everything is working well..... but... Every time I reboot the phone I MUST clean cache and Dalvik cache via CWM recovery. If I don't do it , after booting several apps go force closing in loop and the phone is unusable. I've had this problem also with other ROMs like Jelly-Sandwich, any release. Tried also to format sdcard without benefit.
Thank you for help
Try clearing app data from settings!
Then,reboot

I do this every time I install new ROM
I've formatted system, data, cache, everything. Than reinstalled the ROM (Ice cream Pureness 14 sp1).
when booted I didn't reinstall anything from Titanium and tried a reboot......... As usual, Gmail and Google playstore
went FC loop. GMail and Playstore are apps coming with the ROM .... Than I rebooted in recovery, wipe cache and dalvik cache and .... all run perfectly and smooth... The problem is still there.
Next time I'll try formatting all, reflash firmware .587, and than reinstall ROM.
