Is it possible to make photo app to save photos to external SD card not internal?
Does it need root for that?

As far as I know the built in camera app has choice for internal or external SD card.
As for other camera apps, I don't know.
Android native is to save on SD not on phone.
Most of phone will not take pictute without mounted sd card in it.

The point here is that the Sola has TWO SD-cards.
One "internal" 4 GB located as /sdcard, and this is what apps find if they use the Android system call for external storage.
One "real" SD card located as /ext_card. Many apps can not use that card. They have to support arbitrary paths to be able to use it.
I want to play fifa 12 and other games like asphalt, how can I tranfer data form "sdcard" folder to "ext_card" folder?
As I wrote: "Many apps can not use that card. They have to support arbitrary paths to be able to use it."
So it depends in the app if they can use it or not.

Let me start off by saying that I have yet to root my Flyer, but plan on it in the near future. My question is the purpose of having an external SD card (I recently got a 16GB)? It doesn't seem like you are able to store apps there, unless you're rooted of course using something like Link2SD.
So for the unrooted, stock Flyer users, is the external SD only for storage of files like mp3s, AVis, etc. that apps on the internal storage can read and run or am I missing something in the setup?
Nope, that's it...just more space for media etc.

Thanks globatron. All the more reason for me to hurry and root this thing. Any known issues with running Link2SD on HC?
In Gingerbread, you can move some of your apps to SD without root through settings>applications. You choose your app and then there is an option to move to SD card. In my experience, Honeycomb deals with app space differently, so there is no need for this option because I believe all internal storage is available to apps and media. At least this is how it is on my Honeycomb Archos 80.
You can also store app data on the SDHC card with root and judicious use of the mount command with the bind option. For example:
mount -o bind /Removable/MicroSD/com.iconology.comics.app /mnt/sdcard/Android/data/com.iconology.comics.app
I grabbed this line from my transformer as I'm just starting to set up my View but it shows the necessary goodness. Here's my attempt (as in I may have a typo) at the correct code for the Flyer or View to move the storage for the Comixology app:
mount -o bind /sdcard2/com.iconology.comics.app /mnt/sdcard/Android/data/com.iconology.comics.app
The first path can use any name for the folder with the files but I like to keep it the same as the one I'm moving from the internal storage. The second folder is the actual folder where the app data was stored until I moved it to the SDHC card. The big drawback is you'll need to do this for each folder you want to move to the SDHC. But I've found is 2 or 3 apps that use huge chunks of storage.
Then add this to the init.rc or any other startup run script file. I prefer to use Script Manager to run it as root at boot since that gives me a bit more control over the execution and I get to do it without modifying system boot files.

Well, I wish there were 256GB or so cards available.
I have a lot of media. I can fill it just fine and use my View as a media server or something like that.
As of moving apps to SD: you guys are able to fill all your 24GB or so internal storage with your apps so you need to move them to the external?
I wonder what is that you are running.

Too many apps still aren't willing to write anywhere but /mnt/sdcard and don't deal with additional storage options. So if you can move a gig of apps to the SDHC card that's another gig of storage for those dumb programs. Doesn't directly relate to having 24GB of apps.

Hi can someone please help me out.
i have just inserted a new sd card in my phone,
ive already transferd a few files to it so i no its working.
well im using the application app 2 sd to move apps , well i have apps that it says can be moved but when i click on them there is no option for sd card and also i get a message saying: the device does not have a real primary external storage, or primary external storage is emulated
can someone help me please
anyone? :/
Could be a copy sdcard card, loads kickin around from China
Also why u need a2sd don't u have enough on phone storage?
No it's proper sand disk I think from ebuyer, well I have about 10 apps and I have around 250-300mb left just wanted to free some up as when I install n.o.v.a 3 it's like 2.gb and that installs to whine storage aswell not sd. I think I've read that none if the apps to sd work yet for sgs3 :/

There's plenty of open topics about this. Search for them.
Basically Samsung intended the internal, external cards and dropbox to work as one big storage for all apps, app data and user files... or something like that.
So they disabled the Move To SD option in the app manager. Unfortunately it doesn't quite work like they intended and the external SD is practically useless as most apps (99%) can't read or write to it.
I'm reading around now to see if anything new happened but it's looking grim.
This thread should be closed.
Any updates on this? I still want to move my App Data to the external SD card. In this way my new SGS3 is even worse than my Galaxy Y -.-
as far as I know it does not work with S3. maybe an update coming soon

It works. It requires some handywork though on the shelll.
maybe there will be a noob friendly mod soon for those that want to use .sd card for apps?

I'm just hoping for a custom Rom with App moving, UMS mode and fixed user dictionary so I'm not having to patch up the f**k ups that Samsung made and have it all built in like it should be.

I used Directory Bind App to move my big data esp. game data to my external Sd.It worked perfectly.
bump. having same issue.
Ok so I have a 32gb s3. And a 32gb class 10 micro sd.
My question is:
What should I save on the internal memory and what should I save on the micro sd? Just curious

I would store all of your apps on internal memory, and any large files on the microSD card. That way your apps are accessing fast internal NAND flash, and your large files are portable on the micro SD in case you need to move them.
^^ always a good policy. Music, movies, rom files, etc.. have always had their place on the external card. However, with the 32GB internal storage, you may find yourself moving more stuff to internal storage as it becomes more an issue of portability than memory management.
IMO apps should definitely stay in phone memory so that they load more quickly and work with the external SD card removed (when sharing files or moving stuff around).
I would advise that pictures be kept in internal storage because of the generally higher failure rate of external cards. We've had corrupted cards sweep across the first Galaxy S device, and a lot of people lost a lot of data this way. I've had all my internal/external files backed up to 3 cloud storage solutions ever since, using this awesome app: FolderSync.
It may not be a bad idea to occasionally back up important files (like pictures and documents) to the external storage.
Thank you. As far as music and photos?
Where do you think these are best kept?

Apps can no longer be stored on external storage. Thanks to Google, they coded android to only allow apps access to internal storage, even with apps such as apps 2 sd it is no longer possible. If you root, you will have to move your titanium backup file over to external sd card, and then go under preferences in TB and change the default location. The new cwm will still write to your sd card but that's it. Your very lucky to have gotten the 32gb model, because 16gb could be filled up if your a gamer because of how much data modern games store. You will have to manually move music, movies, and any other large files to your external card. There is a very long thread about this in the international models forum. Also, I believe there's an app that can move game data to the sd card, you have to be rooted & you will find the link to it in the forum that discusses this issue. I hope this makes some sense to you, it's kind of odd & it took me about a week to even discover it.
Thanks bro. Makes sense.
What are you guys using to move files around from internal to external and vice versa

Question.
If I have photos etc saved to my internal storage. And I'm flashing roms. Full wipes required.
Won't I lose all my data and pics?

If your phone has an sd card in it, the first time you use the camera app it will ask you if you want to store photos on your sdcard or extsdcard, choose extsdcard & they will be on your external sd card in a folder called dcim. Only apps that are preloaded on the phone are allowed access to the external storage to write. If/when cyanogen mod comes to our phone, then apps will be able to be stored on extsdcard as usual because cm is built from source, and they have recoded(I guess that's how u would say it) this area of the Android system. So... Stored on extsdcard.... Then pics will be safe, hope I've helped.

You can actually us the stock app called "my files" or a number of third party apps. I use my files or sometimes esFile explorer. Just long press the file you'd like to move and from the list that pops up select copy, cut, or move. Then go to the area you want to the file in & if using esFile explorer touch the button at the top of the screen that says paste, or if using my files press the button at the top that says done. Hope I've helped ya out....
Hi all
My internal SD is about to filled up while my Ext_SD still has more than 30Gb available out of 64Gb. I have some very big file in the internal SD such as Co-Pilot navigation's map and several games' files like Asphalt 6 & 7 ect ... Those are really big though
I wonder if there is a way to move all of those big files to the Ext-SD? I've heard of something like partitioning the Ext-SD card but don't know how to do it properly so I would really appreciates any instruction / guidance from you experts in the forum
Thanks a lot
Partitioning the external sd is a good idea but not necessary for our phones. I would move pictures and music over the external sd and see if that gives you anymore room.
You can try clearing out some space using the Amaze Memory Clear app from the market or doing it manually from Settings>Storage scroll down till you find Make More Space from the internal storage. You can clear out HTC app caches and temp data and other things it ask you. You'll be surprised how much crap gets saved.
I appreciates your replied and suggestion. Yes I did all that and all of my multi-media files were always on the external SD - even my Titanium backup folder were set on the external but, still, those games from GameLoft and off-line maps that really took all the spaces.
Thank you BTW

Thanks for your input. App2SD only moved app but not it's data. Apps are not a problem in our phone since we have 2,64Gb (internal) partitioned out from the internal SD Card (16Gb) just for apps. More than enough.
It's the data from apps that took spaces and sadly we can not move 'em to the ext-SD. I've also tried the Directory Bind but it's for the SGS2 and it won't works on our phone
Perhaps some of our clever Devs might be interesting of porting the app to our phone someday and that would be great .
Link2SD would be a better option, but it requires kernel support to work.
I have the Verizon Note2, 64GB SD Card, rooted and bootloader unlocked. I do have 300+ apps downloaded currently. When trying to install another one just now from sd card- an .apk file- I had a popup saying I was Out Of Space. I know it is trying to install it to the phone's internal memory, which it thinks is full.
Is it full, and do I really need to remove some other apps? I know JB doesn't let us move the apps from internal to sd, so what other options are there? I am not comfortable altering the framework- nor do I know how- to move the apps to sd. Can I move them with Rom Toolbox Pro?
Thanks!

You can't move apps to SD that way. You can do a swap though. The phone would read your external card as internal and vice versa. I am pretty close to doing this myself as I am fighting for app space.

300 apps? Wow, thats a ton. I have maybe 20-25. I'm sure I am on the low side.
unlocked Note2 and Tapatalk
Does anyone get the low memory pop up after doing the internal external swap yet have plenty of space still available ?
