Uninstall system application - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,I used titanium backup to remove a system apps,is this means that system app was definitely removed from my phone?

From your question, I take it that you dont really know what your doing. If you dont know what your doing or know how apps like TB or Root Explorer can make your phone unuseable by uninstalling system apps that may be required by FW then you should at first freeze the app. By the way, the app in question was indeed deleted.

I use Titanium Backup Pro and Freeze the apps for now...
If you have root, you can download Root Explorer from the app store. Use it to browse to the app directory and just delete the apps you don't want. Another option is to rename the unwanted apps. For example, change APPNAME.apk to APPNAME.apk.bk ... then it will be "hidden" from the system. Restore it at anytime by removing the ".bk" extension.

Is there a free version of root explorer? Or a free way to rename these files? I don't really feel like paying $4 to remove bloatware.

Anytime I connect via my computer, it says permission denied for su. I know I have root, so I am a little confused. I can uninstall with Titanium Backup, but I was planning on keeping a copy of the apk, just in case. Is there any reason I would need this bloatware? Such as for Warranty or insurance? Other wise I'll just go and remove the worst of the bloat with Titanium backup. Thanks.

there is RUU downloads in the Dev forum that will get you back to where you need to be in case you want to warranty your phone and make it 100% stock again. Best thing to do before removing stuff is boot into clockwork recovery or use rom manager(from the market) and backup everything...then delete. if you come across a problem with deleting something jsut restore from a backup.

X2 & Titanium Backup

I used titanium backup to uninstall the bloatware from my droid x2..
If I do a factory reset, will the bloatware return?
It should but why would you need to do a factory reset if all you have done is freeze the bloatware?
other people have tried with no success. I have a thread with all the applications in it just restore them. lots of people are having contact issues when removing certain applications. you'll probably experience the same issues with other functions of the phone if you remove the wrong application.

Uninstalling them with Titanium Backup removes the APK from /system/app, which means it doesn't get re-installed if you restore.
I deleted more than I should have on my first bloat-ware removal and ended up having to find a system dump to recover and replace the lost APK files. The general rule to freeze first is extremely important on the DX2.
Can I recover apps from my DX to my Dx2?

Actually you can, just make sure they aren't system apps and DO NOT restore app + data. Just the app.

Uninstalled, no they won't return. Frozen, yes they will.
If you need to replace one or two, just grab a system dump (every forum has a thread about system dumps) replace the missing apk and/or odex files, set the file permissions, reboot and you're done.
If you need to replace a lot or the above method seems out of your comfort zone, you can always flash a sbf to restore the software to out of the box state.

not recommended, if you get any detail wrong it could cause more damage than anything. Like you said as long as it's not system apps, and you don't import any data, it could be alright. But if you're not bringing data, it's 9 outta 10 easier to just download a fresh copy from the market.

Rooted, apps uninstall but return

Hi All
Just recently rooted the DNA and added superuser, busybox and such. I am using titanium backup to remove bloatware and after a reset the bloatware apps are back. Cant figure out the issue.
Any help would be appreciated
Your phone is s-on. This means that any edits made to /system while booted in android will not stick. You need to remove the bloatware from recovery.

Correct me if I'm wrong... But freezing them still lets them take up space correct? Since there are only 16gb's on the phone I'd like to remove them completely to free up space. With that said, can you fully remove them with titanium backup or rom toolbox? I presume no.
If anybody has a fix for this let me know because I'm eager to remove the boat ware of this phone.

dbs9938's kernel now allows writing to /system while booted, meaning you can remove system apps with titanium backup.

...however, you still cannot free up usable space. Only the space in the /system partition where your Rom, amongst other things, reside. Until, that is, someone figures out how to change partition sizes.

Removing bloatware?

So I'm rooted with a custom recovery. Tried to uninstall apps with titanium but when I restart phone they come back. Is there a way to avoid this?

Did you try to freeze them with TB? I think the only way to get rid of them is to use ROM manager or similar (if you are rooted) and delete the apk's that way. You may have to change permissions first though. I'd be a little wary doing that unless you've made a full backup first.

I didn't freeze, just uninstalled. Didn't think of trying root explorer and deleting the apks through system though. I'll try that. Is there a reason they come back after uninstalling through TB?

Why not just disable them? They can't be taking up that much space, can they?

You have to rename the apks in the system partition. Otherwise they come back on a reset.

Gotta use Rom Manager or an app that has root and can see system apks. I think you can also just change their permissions to rwxrwxrwx (if even necessary) and then delete them. If that doesn't work, you can try to rename them. If that doesn't work, you definitely need to change their permissions and then delete them. I haven't gotten the One yet so I don't know for sure.
I lose root after booting up for some period of time too. Restart initializes root again but not for long.

ROOT question

I'm new to root so thats why this question is being asked. I got root on my GS4 the other night and installed titanium backup PRO and began UNinstalling bloatware. Before that however I did a backup of everything on my phone.(using that app) I ran the Back up all system date and the Backup all User apps + system data. Is that everything I should have backed up before continuing? Next question: Does that app TRULY UNinstal the apps I tell it to? Thanks for the help in advance.
yes and yes. Be careful what you delete.
