How can I download the latest stock firmware if I buy the AT&T unlocked version and use it in another country? also would I be able to use a custom firmware on it?
You probably can't use any of the custom firmware currently out for International version, the CPU/RAM configuration is different. But you could probably still update the stock firmware using Kies.
Thanks, yea I guess I will be waiting for other developers to tinker with the AT&T firmware and I have to learn how to apply it as I have never used Android before

I bought the phone in January sim free, for full price from my local mobile phone store. It is running stock android 2.3.4 (build number: GINGERBREAD.XWKI4). Its been in the online news a lot that ICS would be available by the end of Q1 but still, i am unable to update. I get a message saying my firmware is the latest available.
I live in New Zealand and as far as i understand you (USA) have ICS but what about for me? I'm assuming my phone is the international version so i thought i would have the update by now.
So does anyone know the full story?
Thanks
ICS hasn't been released by any of the NZ telcos yet (I checked with Checkfus). You can pretty much run any ICS stock (or custom for that matter) rom you want. Lots of Odin (mainly stock roms) & CWM flashable (mainly custom) roms on here (search the development sections).
One thing to bear in mind if you do flash a stock ICS rom from another region tho, you may have problems getting updates via Kies in future. If that happens, you'd need to flash a stock rom for your region in order to get Kies updates again. Or you could do what the majority of people on here do, bypass Kies completely (horrible excuse for software) & flash all your roms manually.
As long as you've got an I9100 or I9100T you can flash any firmware for these phones.
Fellow Kiwi here mate, just flash any ics rom thru odin. I've had no issues whatsoever, the latest Lp7 rom with speedmod kernel is the best I've had. You wont regret it.
I'm with telecom, they wont update anything quickly at all.
Hope this helps your decision
Hey guys,
I recently rooted my S2 and installed a custom ROM because i was sick of waiting for Samsung to release ICS in my region ( Also i love stock ICS ).
Recently they released ICS in my region so i went to sammobiles to download the firmware.
My Question is that do PDA and CSC change for each new version of android released or am i supposed to wait for the firmware with the same PDA and CSC as the version i was using.
Also I wanted to know if I could flash firmware of different region on the phone without it having any errors
Thank you.

u can flash any stock rom ...
The only small issue you might face if you flash stock firmware for a different region is you may not be able to get OTA updates for your region when they're released. But it's easy enough to flash them via Odin so this isn't a massive problem.

Hi Guys
I have a SGSII, which I got in Hong Kong a couple of years ago. It came pre-installed with Stock Samsung Firmware ICS 4.0.3. I currently living in the UK and was wondering if I did a Firmware update using Kites, would it install you UK version of the firmware instead of the HK version?
If it's got the HK firmware/CSC on it, it will update to the latest for that region; where you are now is irrelevant, it reads the CSC info off the phone to determine what firmware to upgrade to, assuming there is a later firmware for that region.
But it's a moot point. Why would you use Kies for anything ? Flash whatever stock rom for whatever region you want with Odin.

To be honest, I am a noobie when it comes to the advanced aspects of android devices. So I've always followed the mantra of always following the manufacturer's instructions to the letter. Also I don't want to loose all my user data for my game of Asphalt g
I recently got an unlocked galaxy s9+ (sm-g965u1) and i like to at least have the latest firmware on hand incase i need to flash it. sammobile has multiple firmware files available to download. seem to be carrier specific. what would happen if i flashed one that says, say, AT&T? currently it has no carrier apps built in.

Far as I know it would just have the all the carrier specific apps and what ever little carrier additions the firmware has that the U1 firmware didn't. Granted I have the Sprint S9+ but if I go from the Sprint firmware, to U1 firmware and back to Sprint firmware and that's what happens.
Though what I have been using for the unlocked firmware is at the link below. If you download any of the supplied G965U1 firmwares from the tutorials on the forum it's the XAA firmware.

Is it safe fo flash a Samsung G970U with a G970U1 firmware? Is there any chance of it bricking my phone? My phone's current code is G970USQU2BSIO, and the new firmware one's is G970U1UES3CTA3. Are this firmwares cross compatible for Samsung S10E or will it brick my phone? Thank you in advance
I'd like to know as well. Got an AT&T S10e SM-G970U not too long ago, sim unlocked it but would want to switch to a SM-G970U1 XAA firmware thats free of any carriers and can get the latest updates asap.
