I have multiples (5) of every song in my music app. Is there a way to clean without deleting one at a time?

Anyone?
Is there an app for this?
Also some of the songs won't play but the files are on my ext SD.

Please somebody respond to this, if only to tell me piss off...lol

You invited this but.....PISS OFF!!!
What music player are you using? Are the "extra" files really files, meaning do they contain data or are the just folders. If you go into Root Explorer and open one up, do you really have the song in there or is the folder empty and you are just seing the folder?
What ROM?
This is an old fix but have you tried going into Settings>Apps>Musicplayer> wipe cache and data or Settings>Apps>Media> wipe cache and data
I knew that would get a response....lol. OK so in Google music or Apollo, I have both, songs are listed 5 times. Most play some don't but if I go into root browser they all play. I just don't want to manually delete extras and need to figure out why some don't play. I'll try your suggestion. Thanks for response!

Thank you so much! I've actually got 5 music apps, don't ask why, but I cleared all data/cache from all and rebooted....viola! Now I just need make sure all my music from ext SD is showing in apps. Thanks again!

Hey everybody, having some trouble with my PowerAMP fairly regularly. It starts up and plays music fine, but after a while it always comes through with this error (Too many failed files, playing will stop now.) If I reboot and go back into PowerAMP, it all works fine again. This keeps happening though. I guess I'll try uninstalling it and loading again to see if that fixes it. Was wondering if anyone more software savvy had some other ideas. Maybe something is jacked up with the sd card? But if this was the case wouldn't i run into a similar problem when flipping through pictures and videos?
I"m not sure if Fixing Permisions would help but it could just be an SD card issue or it is running into files that are in the playlist but aren't on the SD Card anymore?
Shouldn't be running into any of those given it forms the available songs by scanning the card. Seems to be something with the sd card. I'll try permissions, I haven't done that in a while anyway (if it aint broke don't fix it! lol) The reload didn't work. I know the songs are there as it gives the name of a file that is supposedly failed, but after the reboot it plays fine. Kind of strange.
Was going to be adding some music, maybe I'll try wiping all the files I have on there and just reload em through my pc.
Let me know if permissions works.. other then that I can't think of anything that would cause the issue.
Alright, went through and wiped out the music folder then reloaded a bunch of songs. Still having the same problem. Fixed permissions too. Seems pretty damn weird to me, anyone else having similar problems?
Tried uninstalling and reloading again and that seams to have fixed things...I'll let you guys know after a day or two of usage. Weird.
Hey im having the same issue i have my music on the internal sd card all the files are wma the app will play like 5-10 songs then says too many failed songs. Then going to look at what folders it is looking at it says that could not find sd card. if i restart the app it'll install native libraries then scan then able to play 5-10 songs again....wierd
Try going to SETTINGS>APPLICATIONS>MANAGE APPLICATIONS> then go to the "all" TAB. Scroll down and clear both the MEDIASYNC and MEDIASTORAGE. The problem is due to a double sync where there are empy place holders for songs thus looking like "failed files" reload poweramp and it will scan music folder again and wallah... Fixed!
Like I said before, I just uninstalled, made sure everything was deleted, then redownloaded the app from the market and all is well. Haven't had any problems since.

I tried that and still did the same thing and by the way though the stock music player plays all the songs with no problems
Same for me... Since I have been using the current ROM (FLB_R9), PowerAMP can not play a single file, while the stock player is really happy with any of them!
Go to SETTINGS/Applications/Manage Applications/PowerAMP
Under Storage press "Clear data"..
Rescan music folder again.
Worked for me
Had the same problem. Even though I loved Poweramp, I switched to Mixzing. I even had the paid Poweramp. Haven't had any issues with Mixzing. It has an E Q just like Poweramp, and it plays folders too. Got tired of Poweramp and its foibles. Very happy with free version of Mixzing.

Should point out clearing MEDIASTORAGE will seemingly delete all your ringtones! However a reboot of the phone will restore those ringtones again.
Just a heads up.
This might be the answer

This condition just started on my Galaxy S3 after using PowerAmp for months. I looked for the both the suggested sync files on the S3 but found nothing. No other stock music player on the S3 will play the music either. Your thoughts please.

Hi.
I have the same problem.
Someone could solved it?
Thanks and sorry for my english!
I've been having this issue as well, running all my music from my SDcard, will try a few things and report back. I'm using poweramp because the stock player doesn't seem to work with my card, says songs are unplayable, doesn't show all my music etc. I just tried disabling system media scanner/MTP in advanced folder library options and I'll report back.
My solution
I found this problem after disabling APOLLO in my MAKO ROM PACMAN
As soon as i enabled it, POWERAMP started working. Check if such coincidence works for u too
guys here is how I fix mine : FIX PERMISSION
if still not working try uninstall and install again.
So my Trigger thread has been hijacked by Avatar lovers. However, some good did come out of it and I think I've figured out the fix thanks to Raymond & Rory. Or I combined their fixes LOL
Here's what I did:
Clear DRM Protected Content Storage cache
Clear Video Player cache
Reboot
Try and play the movie through Video player, press Unlock
Reboot
At this point you should be able to play the movie through Video player
Place attached Avatar.apk in /system/app
Set permissions to rw-r--r--
Now I am able to play my avatar movie. Note: it's located on my external SD card
For people setting permissions in Root Explorer, it looks like this:
Code:
User: Read Write
Group: Read

Who started this sh.., I never gave a fly if the stupid movie works on my phone or not. Now, it's bugging me because it won't happen. Birg, I followed the procedures, from this thread and the Trigger thread whatever the guys suggested. Still out of luck, I'm gonna back off because it's driving me mad. Thanks anyways.

I just flashed Trigger last night and got Avatar playing very easily this time. I restored the icon from my files but tapping it would not play the movie. Using Video Player resulted in "Sorry this movie cannot be played".
What I did: I deleted the icon and restored it with Bloater. Then I did menu>settings>applications>manage applications>all tab> scrolled down to Drm Protected Content Storage, DrmProtectedLauncher, and Video Player. I tapped each one and then deleted cache or data for each. Now trying to play Avatar with the Video Player resulted in the message "This content is locked, do you want to unlock it now?" I checked yes and backed out. The movie still would not play so I rebooted. After the SD scanning finished, I tapped the Avatar icon and it played!

Edit: I hate to say this because I'm not sure, but I think after I did all those steps that I did a Titanium Backup restore of the data only for the Drm Protected Content Storage and DrmContentLauncher. It was really late, I am an airhead, and I went to sleep before posting what I did.
Fail at step 6 on Bionix V 1.3.
Same "This movie cannot be played" message.
its only broken after bionix v for some reason for me....what I did was d/l the collectors edition and use handbrake to convert it and formatted my microsd because I got tired of messing with it.

I kinda started this mess. I may have forgotten a last step but I can't remember. I may have restored data for the Video player with Titanium after deleting the cache. My thinking was the flash caused it not to play for some reason, so I deleted the cache. Then I believe I did a Titanium restore of the data because it played before I flashed and restoring that data should help. I did it late at night and went to bed before posting. I'm sure about the part I did in the paragraph above, it's what I'm telling you now that's fuzzy. Sorry I'm such an airhead right now, but I did get mine working fine.
This worked at step 4 for me, thanks!

Application cache, not dalvik cache. Go to Settings -> Application -> Manage Applications -> All -> then look in the list for the two applications listed
Can someone confirm the file name in the external_sd/
I put the movie there, was deleted before, but it says not found. Plays fine in video player, guess thats all i need, but now I just want it to work right.
Also, if you guys haven't tried trigger 2.7, you should download it. This has to be the final, it can't get any better than this.

Sorry if this is a hijack... But I take it the Avatar movie will not play in any 2.2.1 rom? I only ask because I just get the " do you wish to unlock?" popup over and over.

I got the same thing. Honestly I think it's just luck whether it acquires the licences or not.
I have no idea whether it will work with 2.2.1. I'll do some testing in the coming weeks though
would this work if i moved the movie file over to the internal sd card? I upgraded to an 8gb external card from a previous phone. It used to work fine before on the internal card, but like previously mentioned, when flashed a rom, it doesn't work. It worked with bionix 1.2.1 though. Idk guess ill keep trying.
Just as an FYI...
Flashed Trigger 2.7 and the FIRST thing I did after waiting 15 minutes and rebooting was to open Files, navigate to the Avatar.dcf file (the actual movie, not the icon or through Video Player) and run the file. The movie opened immediately and began to play without any problem. Then I restored everything, installed the launcher icon (in my post or in Birg's), rebooted.... It now works fine. Hope this can help....

Think about it logically. What I had was a fresh install that wouldn't play the movie. I never do system data backups with Titanium, so that wasn't a factor. So, I deleted the cache/data (whatever was there) for both DRM processes and for the Video player. Then, I restored the system data only (for all three processes) from my last Rom install which was Bionix V 1.2.1 where it was working fine. Once it asked if I wanted to unlock the movie, I choose yes then rebooted when it wouldn't play. Makes sense to me!
Hi everyone,
It looks like every music track I have shows up twice in music player. One of the two copies does not work (i.e., program says cannot read this kind of file). I first noticed this after I tried opening the track on 'Play Music' app.
Is there a reason AND a fix for this?
Many thanks!
JT
PS, I'm on Flapjaxx's IMM76D.UCLE2 ROM

Hi there
If your running Stock Rom
Then go into Settings - Application - Manage Application
Close out anything that is bloatware
Try to use Task Manager hit clean all applications to see if this fix the issue...
This Device shouldn't have any issues at all......
Did you put your music on your SD Card if you did make a folder on your main SD Card called "Music" put all your music in this folder.
Do you have extra tracks like duplicates?
Clear your caches then unmount your sd card then clear again then mount sd card then reboot. That's how I fixed mine

I have done some searching around for storing my Google play music on my external sd card instead of the internal memory. Basically from what I have found is your changing the directory path to the external memory. I am somewhat of a noob to this. I tried using this method here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2003930
I could not find the cache file with Rom tool box or esfile I also on a side note have had issues with finding zip files at times when I know I put them on the external memory.
So my question is, has anyone tried this and with success?
This method seemed to be the most simple way of doing it.
Also I am on flappjaxxx aosp jb Rom so is the directory different?
In the screen shot for Rom tool box you can see that it is empty and in esfile it is not there.
Am I looking in the wrong spot? Any help our someone's expertise would be amazing!

You are over thinking this...
All you need to do is put the music on the sdcard.. clear data of Google music, reboot and the media scanner will read all storage and tell apps where things are.
As you can see in the pic of Google music, I have a sound file that isn't in my music folder. The media scanner still displays it on the player even though I didn't point it there.
I am not sure how to move it to the external memory if I can't find it. I have tried doing that in the past but Google music wanted to download the music again. I guess I could always download the music to my pc and transfer over. I guess I am not sure how to put new purchased music on the external?

I believe the OP is asking about the technique that forces your cloud-based music to be stored on an external SD when the user "pins" the song for offline access.
You seem the referring to music stored on the SD by other means.

You are correct in that I want my music stored our pinned on the external memory. It would be great if I could do that between flashing different roms. I am in the process of downloading all the music from play and then stick it in a file on the sd and hopefully Google music will find it

i have had alot of issues with binding to external SD to where i had to wipe my SD card, what happens is when you save ur files to the sd card it works, but when u reboot, it appears google music starts 1st before your bind does so it thinks ur files are missing and starts dowloading them to internal and it will corrupt ur ext SD card and u have to wipe it, that is what i have been having issues with, but u may not, best of luck to u.
That is good to know. I ended up downloading my entire library and copying it to the sd card. Google music saw the music as stated earlier, however I did not log into my account because it was wanting to double everything. So it kind of fixes my problem, but I am not sure what to do when I buy new music as I did not see a option to just download a album from music manger.

IMHO, the fact that one can't direct offline music (or the cache for that matter) is a huge design oversight by Google.

totally agree, i don't understand it, u would be more likely to use it, but alot of online music apps are like that
cached music files for google music are in /sdcard/android/data/com.google.android.music/files/music move from here to external sd
Hey guys I've noticed an issue with the phone reading slash showing duplicates I'd certain files...namely music, mp3's. I use Dropbox for most of my file storage, this my music files are stored there. I used the Dropbox app to download about 10 mp3's by "export(ing) to external sd." Once I went into the stock music app (yeah I use stock lol) it showed exactly two of each of the files I added. Nowhere on my external sd are they duplicated, only one of each, I also searched the internal sd and didn't find any of said files there.... Finally, once I used stock file manager app to delete the music files giving me the issue, upon going back into stock music app-the app was still showing (only one now) the files I deleted, but it was unable to play them. I cleared the music apps cache and storage then restarted the phone which removed all traces of the deleted files and duplicates. My question is this: is this Dropbox app related? Anyone else have this issue or can recreate it? Is there maybe a known bug/fix I've missed in the forums somehow? Lastly, some additional information...if I transfer from my computer it doesn't do the duplicate file garbage....odd. I haven't tried using the stock file manager app's "online" access method to download files from Dropbox so I dunno if that does it too or not...
Thanks in advance for any help and or insight offered!
Unrelated topic: One more quick question: I'm aiming to find a way to make holding the vol buttons skips to next song but due to my noobness I'm unsure as to whether this is a tweak or mod? I'm using the mobile xda app from work now so I can't search the forums at the moment, is this covered in our forums that I've missed? If not, I'd eventually like to start a walk through thread for it... Thanks again guys.
