A friend of mine has a samsung galaxy s2 with basebandversion I9100XXKE4 and when i looked which version of android it was running i was surprised to see version 2.3.3 was installed. Because i had version 2.3.5 before i used another baseband version update to go to ICS ... Looking arround on the web i could not find a more recent version of Android for her phone. (btw also still no official ICS version for the i9100XXKI3) So I had on my phone a baseband version I9100XXKI3 and i updated using Odin with an ICS package which had I9100XXLPR baseband No problems until now. Now running CM9.
You guys think i can also use this (xxLPR)package to update her I9100XXKE4 ?
We both live in HK. Only difference is she is on PCCW and i am on Smartone

XX ROM series had plenty of official updates after 2.3.3, among them three ICS ROMs. Latest is LPW.
Just follow this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
and pick up whatever ROM you feel like (you may also follow your product code).

Yes, you can. Only thing is if you flash stock firmware for another region you may have problems getting OTA updates for your region in the future. Which isn't a huge problem as you can also simply flash these via Odin when they're released if you do have difficulties.
I've had a look at Checkfus (PC version) & it tells me most recent update for I9100/Hong Kong was ZSLPG on 06/04/2012. So I guess you could go with LPR like you did, or you could get Checkfus & use this ICS build, which might mean no problems with OTA updates in the future (but no guarantees).

Hello
I have installed a couple of custom firmwares on my phone, but I am currently running cyanogenmod 7.1.0. I am facing many many problems like fc, crashes, etc. and would like to install stock 2.3.7 using KIES.
I downloaded a stock firmware (somewhere from this forum) and flashed it with ODIN but when I tried to upgrade using KIES I was not able to do so. I want to run a stock 2.3.7 with samsung apps etc. what do I have to do in order to be able to upgrade again through KIES?
Thanks
There is no 2.3.7 stock ROM available.
As for CyanogenMod:
If you had those problems, you were most likely using an outdated version. The nightly 116 is the best working CyanogenMod for the Galaxy S2 so far. The "stable" version was everything but stable.
So you have to decide:
Outdated Samsung Android
or
Give CyanogenMod another try.
Or maybe MIUI?

As the post above says , there is no 2.3.7 stock ROM , 2.3.6 is the latest version ( XWKK2 or XWKK5 ). Get it from intratech's thread, get to clockworkmod recovery , do a wipe data/cache , boot into download mode and flash the rom with odin.
Thank you guys for your answers!!
I will have to find some time to try both the nightly cyanogenmod 116 and the stock 2.3.6 (although I could only find up to 2.3.5).
gr4ndm4st3r_bl4ck, will I be able to update through KIES when 4.0 or 4.1 will be available for my phone?

You can find XWKK2 (2.3.6) at the bottom of intratechs non-frankestein builds.
Ice Cream Sandwich will be available on KIES in late January or early February for Galaxy S2, but we will probably have a leaked version before that. Kies is actually rubish, you should always update using Odin ( much simpler , plus you get updates before they are actually available on KIES).

Ok so I followed your instructions and found following:
Code:
XWKK2
Firmware info
PDA:XWKK2
PHONE: XXKI4
Date: 11/11/2011
Android 2.3.6
XEN (Netherlands): url (not able to post outside links yet)
XWKK2 Stock Kernel: url (not able to post outside links yet)
Password: [email protected]
does it matter if I bought my phone in Sweden but the firmware is from netherlands? I want to have swedish input etc. I am not sure if cyanogenmod (which supports swedish) have included other languages or if it's a standard in every android.. also what is XEN? I will of course read through the guide again but just to be 100% sure
Thank you

If your phone is the international version of SGS II I9100 ( aka not branded ) then it doesn't matter. You will have Swedish input and all the other ones. XEN is a country code for Netherlands ( codes used in firmware versions ). Also you just need the XEN one you dont need the stock kernel , its only used after rooting your phone. Just follow the instructions and you should be ok. Hope that helps a bit.
Hi
I've got a Galaxy s2 (good thing really being in this forum)
It's currently running 2.3.4 on XWK14 (official) flashed from the official roms thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 (not the frankenstein part) with the XEU CSC (UK)
There are so many threads with this rom that rom at the moment I'm finding it hard to keep track of which ones are official and which aren't.
Kies says no update available, sammobile says there is I think.......
What I want to know is what is the current up to date ROM for the Galaxy S2 in the UK (unbranded) XEU CSC seems to be thr right one.although again I see things like XEUKD1 etc being posted - all a bit confusing!
From the official roms thread the one I have would appear to be the most up to date verion but please correct me if wrong
Fact the forum does state offical Rom clearly and if you look you'll see 2.3.6 to date. Fact that you may not be getting any update via kies may be your running a older version of kies go to samsung homepage and manual install the current version from the once install connect fone and take it from there.. And you should at least get 2.3.5 but hey just flash a firmware using odin and your done easy..
I know your after a UK based firmware.
thanks
I've had a look through yes I can find 2.3.6 but not for uk, I must be blind!
I will try the kies route - I like to stay as close to official as I can, If I can't get kies to provide 2.3.5 do you have a link to an official 2.3.5 xeu rom?
U have KK5 for uk.....am using that one...its 2.3.6
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
where
I can't see it listed under the stock roms is it the frankenstien one you mean?
XWKK5
Android 2.3.6
This package has: PDA: XWKK5| Modem/phone: XXKI3| CSC: XEUKH2
Download: http://www.multiupload.com/7FKGH0Y68X
yes.....or u can use the original KK2.....am using KK5...
Hit thanks if helped....

Do a search for Checkfus on here. That will be able to tell you the most recent available firmware for your phone/region/carrier.

You have the same version I had when I bought my SGS2 in December via Phones4U on O2. This is not O2 firmware, it is Samsung's firmware. And that is the latest publicly released version. So annoying.....That is why my attention has been driven to XDA The latest stock firmware you can install is XWKL1, however I recommend a custom firmware as stock firmwares are buggy, battery not-friendly, and have tens of useless apps...

That is nonsense .

Hi,
I am basically running the following at the moment:
Android Version: 2.3.4
Baseband version: I9100XXKI1
Kernal version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKI4-CL575468 [email protected] #2
Build number: GINGERBREAD.XWKI4
Can I ask what kernel / steps I need to take to upgrade to the latest ice cream sandwich for the Galaxy S2?

If you mean "stock" ICS you can find everything here, latest is the DXLP7 (Asian but with English) or XXLPQ (European): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Otherwise you might want to take a look at custom ROMs.
Thank you.
The thing is, I don't think I have a carrier branded phone (no logos, no carrier software etc) yet Kies is saying I have the latest firmware :S
Ignore Kies, it's just telling you the latest firmware available from your carrier.
Just install the DXLP7 rom from above through Odin

But the thing is, my phone is not carrier branded etc.
I have read that if it has XW or XX in the version name, then it's unbranded, therefore, I should get the update.
Samsung releases region by region based on CSC. So that means they haven't released any updates for YOUR region. If you don't want to wait for Samsung to release an update through Kies to YOUR region, then flash a different firmware.
EDIT: I should add it doesn't matter if it is carrier branded or not. They release based on the region you bought the phone from. I had XWKE7, which is 2.3.3 for UK (even though I'm using the phone in the US), for months when I first got my phone. I got tired of waiting for an update, so I flashed XXKI3, which is 2.3.5 for Poland.
It's really not as cut and dried as "all unbranded phones get the update".

Well, they were supposed to. But Monday was yesterday. It may not happen same day, depending on your location. They probably stagger the release so their servers don't get overwhelmed.

They released the Three Ireland version (which is LPQ version of ICS) the unbranded version of ICS has not been officially released yet via Kies. If you want the official release, then you are going to have to wait.
Personally I flashed LP7 ROM. Later on I flashed the LP6 Radio ROM because the LP7 Radio ROM that came in the LP7 full ROM was eating away at the battery life.
My phone was branded T-Mobile UK, when I first got it. The branding lasted about a week - just to make sure that there was no hardware problems with the phone. Even the official unbranded ROM lasted about a month before I started flashing leaked releases. Why wait till Samsung officially release an update when you could have it running better thanks to the folks on here.
Where did you get the LP6 radio from? Thread I got LP7 from has removed the older stuff.
Also I'm assuming radio is the same thing as modem..
Sent from my phone lol
Many months ago I rooted my Galaxy, mostly for something to do, but I stupidly didn't take down any details on what baseband or kernel the phone was running initially. When the leaked versions of ICS came out I upgraded to them, hopping to the latest one as it came out.
Now that the official T-Mobile release is out I decided that it was time to change to it, to make my phone "legit" again, however this doesn't seem to be the case as in Kies I get the tell tale "Your device does not support software upgrading via Kies".
In the "About Phone" I have...
Baseband Version - I9100BVLPB
Kernel Version - 3.0.15-I9100BVLPB-CL310231 [email protected] #3
Through *#1234# I have...
PDA : I9100BVLPB
CSC : I9100TMULPC
Phone:I9100BVLPB
Is there any way for me to find out what firmware should be on my phone? I've got a sneaking suspicion that my original firmware etc may have been unbranded rather than T-Mobile. I don't remember having any "Web & walk" icon or any T-Mobile logos etc.
If I just install the stock unbranded ICS firmware via Odin does that automatically change the baseband & kernel at the same time?
Thanks for any info
Try CheckFUS.
Thanks, I gave that app a go but it wouldn't update the phone types for some reason, it would just hang while updating.
I've managed to sort it out though, turns out that I was given an unbranded phone. The stock unbranded ICS firmware allows connection with Kies. The one downfall is that it would keep crashing after updating, I had to do a format to get it to work properly.
