I recently updated my st15i to the official ICS, and at the start was very pleased with it. But then I played a game of Tank Hero, and there was lag, I started up my office suite pro and the option to put it on full screen is gone - I cant see anything while typing. Im not pleased at all because this is one of the main futures I use on my phone besides talking and music. So I want to revert back to the official gingerbread. Is there a way to do so without rooting and unlocking bootloader (to keep warranty intact) ?

Just got an xperia mini and have some questions about rooting & Ice Cream Sandwich....
I want to root it to uninstall space taking apps, not much of tinkerer apart from that.
If I root it now, will that mean I'm not able to update to ICS when its made available?
Will I need to unroot? (if so how do I do that?)
Or am I just better off waiting for ICS, and then rooting? If so what are the chances ICS will be rootable?
thanks in advance!
I didn't cared about ICS updated,i just rooted my Mini PRO to remove apps
and i felt that after rooting my mobile became more powerful
Try it at your own risk
You may use doomloards help for rooting, search the forum here on xda
And i don't think unrooting will help you to recover your warranty
as after rooting you wont be able to keep your mobile under warranty and auto updates will no longer work
I used ftf packeges to update my Mini Pro,you may try that if you want to update your Xperia Mini

you can go ahead and root your device, doomlords has now a rooting technique that will allow you to root your device without unlocking the bootloader plus you can get official updates and you can reload any official firmware for your device.
Unlocking bootloader will void your warranty bur you can install a custom firmware/rom just like Cyanogen Mod.
Basically rooting will just add a super user account on your device, but still you can enjoy getting official updates from SE.
I have WT19i (SE Live with Walkman) rooted but boot loader locked.

1. go to settings and then check about phone. should give you the model
3. i believe yes for the most roms
1) how the heck do you know if you have an x10i or x10a??? (we know its the mini pro as has the keyboard )
A)U can check it at setting-->about phone
2) what tools etc do we required?
A)If it was from 1.6, u can upgrade to original SE stock 2.1 update 1 using pc companion. Any latest 2.2 or 2.3 ROM u will need to root your phone using some application. (try to use super one click)
3) do you have to upgrade to 2.1 before 2.2/3?
A)No, u dont have to.
4) what is the basic procedure to flashing?and whats needs to be done?recovery etc?
A)To flash ROM (any custom rom except SE stock rom)
i)Your device must be rooted
ii)Most of the custom ROM can be install using Clockworkmod recovery or Xrecovery, thats mean your rooted device must have any revocery apps on it. but sometime u can flash ROM using Flash tools (if the rom is in ftf format)
iii)To flash kernel, you must unlock the bootloader. After that, u can flash kernel using Flash tools.
5) finally whats one of the best roms(2.2 x)?
A)I have no idea about which is The best roms. But if u like to have ginger bread custom rom. I suggest to use MiniCM7 2.2.0 (android version 2.3.7) and the other one is MiniCM7Pro V21. This two ROM knowing as the most stable ROM than the others. Any problem u can find the thread about all those things and tools that im mention above.
is this help u?

Hi guys, my wife keeps getting annoyed with her mobile. Ever since the update from gingerbread I believe the phone is so slow and laggy. Even getting a phone call, the keypad to answer takes a few seconds to show up sometimes even reading a txt message is the same.
I have seen firmware updates to gelly bean etc, what is the best way to go? The mobile has not been rooted or anything like that.
Thanks!
If u r ready to unlock bootloader u can use JB stock.................
If u dont want to unlock
OPTION 1
- Just root it remove all sony bloatware using any explorer with root access
- Install Greenify and hibernate all apps u dont use more
- Use seeder for reducing lag
OPTION 2
- search forums for ICS CM based roms for locked bootloader and install CM roms are smooth and does nt lag during call r text r any thing
If u know how to root go ahead................
Njoy
I'll do what is required to get the phone up to speed. Also what apps are safe to remove from the phone? Is there a tutorial for this anywhere?
Hello djdynamite123,
My girlfriend have a Xperia U too and when she updated to ICS it was the same problem, phone too laggy and slow. In her mobile it's not possible to unlock the bootloader but I've just rooted it and remove some bloatware, it helps a bit to feel the phone faster.
Here you have an excellent guide to root and if you can, unlock bootloader: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2403929
Hope it helped to you:good:

Good morning guys. I've recently bought a xperia mini second handed while I'm waiting for my gnex back from assistance. Well, these are the facts:
I'm not new in the Android world, so first of all I've searched for a guide to root and unlock my bootloader. My original build version was the 2.1.1.A.0.0 and I had several problems in rooting it. Flashtools didn't recognize my phone even in flash mode, and sony update service nor pc companion find me any update. So I paid 2 useless euros to wotan, hoping that changing the build would be useful for updating (on their server last version available was the 4.1.B.0.587, so ICS). Of course not update was found except for one thing, the program installed me the 2.1.1.C.0.0 build. With it I was able to make flashtools works. I rooted it with no problem and I've discovered that the bootloader cannot be unlock on my phone. Said so, I've reader that there are many ROMs that works even with locked bl, so I've installed the x recovery (cause the cwm caused me a soft brick twice) and I went for flashing a ICS based ROM from there. Unfortunately, again a bootloop. I had to restore the OFW using sony update server (2.1.1.C.0.0) and I'm currently on it. Is that possible that there isn't a way to see ICS on these little Android?
Thanks in advance.
I think you have Xpria X10 Mini
So it isn't good forum for you and in X10 mini you can only use ICS as Custom ROM
For example miniCM9

I don't really know the difference. From where can I see it?
And in the case it's the one you said, how can I put a custom ROM based on ICS? As you can read I've tried everything..
That's why go to x10 mini pro forum,I am ex x10 mini pro user,so you should go to there

Hmmm...if you don't found anything there then what make you think you will find something for your phone here? you are on the wrong Xperia lineup to ask this question....
you have to look carefully at HERE...if you lazy to go thru every pages then just read the first stikies thread...that can narrow down your search for finding the right Roms for your phone...remember your biggest problem is your locked bootloader cause there only a few Roms for locked bootloader...
Hi to All! I bought a used xperia x10 mini pro U20I ..and i saw that the Android OS is very old..just 2.1..i thought that i could update it to ICS officially but today i discovered that this update is only for the xperia mini pro (without x10!!!)
.So now i think that i should install a rom..if i can.I tried many method only to root it.,..without success (superoneclick..z4root..nothing) So i ask 2 things..
1)Where can i find a simple guide..very simple, that explain me how to root this phone and install it a custom rom?
2) Which custom Rom (An Android 2.3..or 4.0?) should i install to have a good battery life, the possibility to install new app like viber and, very important, to have a stable phone that doesnt restart randomly? (i read that this happens with some roms).
THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR ANSWERS!
I Rooted the phone. So just 1 Q.Can you suggest me a Custom Rom..Stable, without bugs, that doesnt make the phone to reboot..or drains battery..and that is compatible with viber?
Thanks!
Use nAa 2.3.7 ROM : Here
Read the instruction with very very very carefully!
I would like to get some more info on rooting it. I can't unlock bootloader coz my phone belongs to the group that won't allow that or it is too risky. What can I do with it? Currently I use 2.1.1.A.0.6

If u cant unlock your bootloader then Bpaul's MiniCM7Pro V21 is the best option...it works on the stock kernel...Only Root your phone using SuperOneClick and install ClockWorkMod Recovery....and then flash the rom:good:
