Parts Available?? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I hate to say it but i have dropped my sgs3 3 times over the past week
but im happy to say the screen has absolutly NO damage or scratches, so i would have to say 3 out of 3 drops with only edge body damage...it a pretty good drop test..lol
any way, i want to replace the silver lip around the sgs 3 and am pretty sure this is part of the lower housing, so anyone know where/if i can get my hands on the spare parts for the sgs3??
and ideas would help, i know its still a brand new unit.

You on contract?

with at&t yes i am. but i did not buy this phone on contract. so i dont see anyone replacing it

Well it looks like the Screen is attached to the frame on this phone......i have replaced other screens on other phones and didnt have a need to heat up the screen to remove it from the frame.
so it looks like if i want to replace to the silver bumper/housing i have to replace the whole screen.....that sucks and it runs around 249.00
im hoping to find a teardown that shows the actual screen removel, other wise i will be dropping the 249 for a new screen/housing even though my screen is perfect the drops have been all body damage.

does any of the screen covers work?

Thanks
I'm assuming you mean screen protectors? The original one that came with the phone is great... just try not to get dust underneath it. Makes it unsalvagable
As for other screen protectors... well, you get what you pay for. I bought a pack of 12 for about $15. A $1 screen protector is exactly that.
In terms....
If you're talking about the today screen then yes. Download the .Cab files on your device and open it on your device. Try that for now and if it say like exe. then more then likely you would have to active sync your comp to phone. good luck
I meant screen protector
the one that came with the phone is smaller then the screen.
Very annoying.
Yeag ut do
Try it but dont buy it... your phone will more then likely dent and scratch but it happens over the years. by the time your know it; youll be buying a new phone anyway. Im on my 4 xda over 2 years. IF your with t mobile; they will go into a big change really soon. phone is already in transaction to catch the 3G internet. Save that $15 to your nexts phone! by the time your know it 6 months later you have $45. good luck
I use Boxwave screen protectors with this device and all my past devices. I have good luck with Boxwave. One screen protector will last you 9 months to a year. I normally just carry my Wing (and my previous devices) in my front pocket with the screen turned inwards to my leg. No keys, pens, change or other things in the pocket. Never have had a problem this way.
I use ShieldZone's full case cover(film) on my wing...
even though the place I work doesn't sell them, I still take my keys to the case just to prove the point that cases/protectors are worth it..
I keep my Wing in my pocket, frequently with my money clip and/or pens... 2 months it's still in *great* condition.. sure the cover is getting a bit dirty, but I know when i remove the cover months down the road to replace it it'll probably look like new again
I just ordered a set of protectors from NuShield. They seem like a really great product. I'll let you know how they are when they get here. It was 3 for $11.99 US.
Im into selling phones and one thing I've noticed is that WM phones don't depreciate as much as say a Razr would. I read a comment about someone who says you shouldn't get one (and I respect everyone's opinion,) but that wouldn't be very smart. If you keep your phone in good condition + keep a screen protector on it by the time you come to sell it and buy a new phone you will be able to put more money on your new purchase (with the money made from selling your old phone) than you would with just the 15 you would save from buying a screen protector. For me this is a no brainer. Get a screen protector, and I don't mean the one that comes with it, buy a good one for like 20$.
Atleast once you do you won't care about touching her delicate parts cuz you'll be using protection
I just got my NuShield screen protectors in today and I think they rock. They're of a very strong plastic material that is absolutely clear, and it completely covers the screen, even under the bezel, without using any adhesive. No bubbles, nothing between the protector and the screen, absolutely perfect display. Cannot even tell it is there.
I read a post in another thread where someone bought a sizable skin from bestskinsever.com. I tried it out because they said they had such good luck with it. Its the first screen protector that I have ever put on that actually is invisible. No dust, no bubbles, looks perfect. You use a soap solution before you put it on and slide it into place. I used my fingernail to get the edges of the screen protector underneath the edges of the phone. Seriously, it looks like its not even there. Oh yeah, they are cheap as hell too.
i buyed a schreen protector , exactly to herald .. it cost $22 (it was only one schreen protector) .. i have it about 15 months of full gaming by stylus, and surving net by picsel brovser (a lot of slides by stylus) and i dont have 1 scratch on it... it is realy perfect .. perfect fits on my schreen, and it seems, it is undestroyable... very happy with it ...
i would say, you better buy one more expensive for a long of time than be still buing that, where one cost $1.. (my opinion)

[Q] Motherboard replacement

A friend's wife dropped her vibrant into some water and powered it on before it was completely dry. Now the display is distorted with lines, occasional flickering, etc. The phone is usable sometimes (when you can see). The touch screen seems responsive, speaker works, front buttons work, and pretty much everything else I tested.
At first I suspected the display, and it might still be bad, but when I took it apart and cleaned it up there was a damaged part on the top board.
Not sure what it is, maybe a capacitor? Labeled, "2R2" on the top.
It's under the narrow portion of the metal cover. The cover that sets directly above it was scorched black.
Basically I'm wondering if it would be worthwhile or possible to replace this board, or even just the part. I'd prefer not to replace just the part since I'm terrible at soldering.
Is it even likely that this is the only culprit?
Any advice?
It is possible. See globaldirectparts.com/category-s/6611.htm for part names and google them for other places w/ cheaper prices. Sounds like lcd issue as well though.
checked there already. They don't have any of the major PCB parts listed. I googled the hell out of it looking for someone selling them(or even a part number) but the best I've found is people on ebay getting rid of "parts phones."
Craigslist or EBay for a broken phone is probably your best bet. See is you can get one that has a broken screen and no water damage. I'm guessing you don't have insurance? Or just seeing if you can do it cheaper.

They had insurance on the previous phone but they bought this one used and didn't call tmo to get insurance switched to it (if they even do that). So they've been paying for insurance that they can't use for the last several months.
I'm worried that the display may be bad as well and if I tell them to get one with a cracked screen they're going to be out the cost of the display as well.
Looks like that's going to be their only option aside from simply getting a new phone though.
Thanks for the replies

[Q] Cracked Screen at 45 days

My girl and I got our Notes direct from AT&T by reupping for 2 years. We both immediately put them in Speck cases, and I covered mine with Armor Suit screen shield. She didn't, cause she didn't like the feel... neither do I really, but I like the feeling of security. She babies her phone, cleaning the screen several times a day, keeping it out of dirt, and just basically keeps it in much better shape day-to-day than I keep mine.
Anyway, she pulled her phone out of her purse late on Friday (too late to go to AT&T) and this is what we found. There is nothing in this particular purse that is even a bit hard that could have hit the screen and she says when she grabbed it (near the ATT logo) she felt cracking, and felt broken glass stabbing her finger. I thought it looked like it got hit, but there is nothing else on the screen, and where she had it in her purse, she'd have been knocked on her butt from the force required to get through the hats and scarf that the phone was inside and break it like this. If it got hit, someone was taking shots at us or something... but then, no puncture in the purse... and yeah, she's got nails and all, but she isn't some Amazonian... could a fingernail have done this?
The phone works fine, the digitizer is fine. I've looked on ebay for replacement glass... she wants it stock, not with an N7000 glass, so that's out for the time being. It looks worse now than it first did, but we are currently in a town with no AT&T store and won't be back to civilization till like Wed or Thurs... but in the meantime I'd like to know what we might be able to do.
1)- So, is it possible this is the "bad screen" crack problem?
2)- What can we do at 45 days (we don't have the ATT insurance)
Looks like it took a shot on that second picture...doesn't look like a defect. Im afraid you might be SOL...manufactures warrenty only covers mechanical problems, not damage in which case youd use your insurance if you had it but you'd still have a 200 detectable or whatever they charge. Id certainly call and *****...maybe they'll work with you. Just a tid bit for ya, each of the 5 times i had my infuse replaced (warrenty) they told me that the phone ill be sending back needs to be in basic perfect condition or they'll charge me the retail value of the phone to my bill.

There is no "bad screen" problem. It is glass it breaks you cannot go against laws of nature.either wait for lcd price to drop and do it urself or just sell it on ebay

You may be able to get your credit card to provide accident coverage.
i just cracked my screen too. can't see anything but it still turns on. I looked on Ebay to get an idea of what it might go for. Any ideas?

[Q] Replacement screen for gnote

Hi anyone know a place where i can get a replacement screen the at&t one
my gnote ate the floor and cracked on the bottom part of the screen still usable but i would like to replace it....... its a white one and i been finding prices around 200-300 for the replacement if anyone could help me up ill really be happy
On ebay they go for a little less than $300 for the outer glass, led screen, and digitizer. It is all one piece. You can send it into Samsung for them to fix, the cost for that is $197.
These guys can fix it for fairly cheap. They even have a pretty fast turn around. We use them where I work.
http://www.cellphone-repair-shop.com/samsung-sgh-i717-galaxy-note-parts/
Do you contact these guys to get them to quote you a price first? seems like they do a free diagnostic but would be nice to know what it will COST before i send it to them.
Also, not sure if any of those parts they sell is just the glass....the only one that seems to contain the glass is a whole bezel and like $200+

Broken AMOLED... just a question

hey guys.
My friend dropped his galaxy s2 and the screen panel broke behind the lcd , the glass hasnt even got a scratch on it.
I want to buy it he will sell it to me for about 200 bucks .รบ
Just want to ask the question does it worth it ? or look for else.
I'd like to uprgrade to s2
i don kno ur money conversion ,but only back cover broken is a small issue, check if the phone is good an works well wiv out any damage(physical, software)watch for screen color is it true or has tints, burns well if u don kno much better show the phone to some one whos got brains on sgs2,thts the best thing ,ull come to kno if anything wrong an then its up to u......cheeeerz
an ---wats the topic broken amoled ,wen ur screen has not gone?????
As he mentioned the actual glass part of the screen isn't broken its the thin film behind it. Sadly the replacement is a full screen, glass, digitiser etc etc. Ebay it and weigh it up if 200$ plus the cost of the screen replacement is worth it. I myself would rather invest the my money into a new s3 or something.
See how much a replacement costs plus labor.
For instance you can buy immaculate condition s2 boxed for 400$ where I live.
the screen is blank if you turn it on but you but the phone is working
i guess it will be a sad end of a great phone ... : /
