Help Decide - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

I am looking to get a new Sprint phone this week. I have narrowed it down to the EVO LTE or the Galaxy Nexus. Both look great in person, not sure what route to go. Thanks guys

evo for sure...the specs are much better and it will be even better when roms like cm9 and aokp get some stability

I say wait a few more days and then you can compare the EVO 4g LTE, galaxy nexus and the Galaxy s3.

I agree. Go with the evo. In a couple months you will be able to choose a really good aosp room if you want like the person before me said plus you get better cpu, better screen, kickstand, better camera, sd card, and the phone just feels better.

EVO hands down.

If the choice is between those two models then the EVO winds hands down, but in my opinion, with the Galaxy S III coming out very soon, you'd be foolish not to wait and AT LEAST compare/play with both (EVO and GS3) before making your final decision.

I thought the same but figured I would try it out and see how the battery was first. I'm glad I did the battery in this one is way better then my OG Evo and my 3D.

Yea the battery is not as big of a deal as ppl make it out . Don't let that make your decision

The EVO lte is on a whole different level buddy. The screen is pretty Damn accurate, unless you prefer over saturation, the battery is surprisingly better then my EVO 3d/og.I can get 6hrs screen on time and standby is ridiculous,I charge once a day when not gaming. Removable sd card ,oh and I'm a sense lover! The camera still amazes me day after day or should I say night after night lol. I hardly use the kickstand (got used to my evo3d). It is VERY fast for a dual 1.5 ghz. Honestly all I could ask for is maybe 512mb of more ram. It doesn't lag,but I do catch myself sometimes with only 180mb free. The only thing I like about the galaxy nexus is the ability to swap batteries. Which really isn't needed.

This..
Plus the camera, I love this thing.
The kickstand is also superb.
But the screen, the SCREEN is by far the best ever IMHO. "I popped out my Otterbox Defender Screen protector excellent" not overly saturated & crisp.
I thoroughly enjoy the hardware of the EVO LTE.

If the battery is a deal breaker I'd go with the gn over the gs3 reason being you will get jelly bean on it gs3 who knows when you will get a official ota without bugs.
Not to mention stock Android experience is amazing I have yet to unlock my nexus.

You WILL get better battery life with the evo lte, that is if the nexus is still using the stock battery. Honestly I would take the 28 nanometer any day over the omap! This sucker is fast. The gs3 would probably be quicker,so if your a Samsung fan I would wait for it. That is if you like plastic lol

Honestly was the Evo3d worth getting?

I have always been HTC lover. Since the pp6700 I had every htc flagship smartphone. True they were not perfect, which was why I ditched my evo for epic.
Better in a lot of ways but has problems of it's own. Ended up hating the galaxy as well. Well I wanted to come back to htc before catching wind of the S2
But I see in this forum of many build quality problems well scattered thought the device. Seems rushed product? Seems more faults then epic and evo together when released.
Just wanted to know what others feel.

Its definitely worth it if you get a good one. People act like its such a huge request to look at the phone prior to leaving the sprint store... If there is something wrong with the one they bring you, just tell them you want a different one.
I'm happy with mine. Even with my monocular vision.

I am on my second device (EVO 3D). I killed the first because I did a drunken swim (lil drunk right now in case this post doesn't make much sense ) and forgot it was in my pocket. The first had 1 dead pixel, only noticible when using an app to look for them and even then, I was the only one of the 3 people I asked who could actually see it. Other than that, the build quality on both phones has been outstanding. IMHO those who complain, for the most part, are those who would complain about just about anything and are looking for things to ***** about. The 3D is superior to the OG EVO in every way (with the exception of root). Is it the difference I had from my old Touch Diamond to my OG EVO, no, absolutely not. It is an evolutionary improvement with the added feature of 3D. I think the build quality of the 3D is night-and-day better than the build quality of the OG EVO, but that's just my opinion. Is it worth getting? I wouldn't go back to my old EVO, the decision is really to each his/her own.
I'm happy with mine too... Just that it lags pretty bad when scrolling in the market and some apps.... But I guess could be fixed by a update.
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
This is definitely an upgrade to my old EVO by a longshot. Is it perfect? No. Is it worth getting? Yes.
Sense 3.0 at its best, Camera is better, shutter button is a welcome addition, the screen is better, Stock speed is faster than EVO rooted, the graphics WOW, 1Gig RAM, a gig of UA storage & the 3D is fun as hell. It's one core alone is better & it has 2 of them. Most of the developers from the EVO 4G will develop for the EVO 3D.
I can cry about it not having permanent root but that's just a matter of patience.
You have 30 days to make that call for yourself, you might feel differently or even better about it.

Definitely worth it for me. I had my Evo 4G for less than a year, sold it for $240, and got the full upgrade price of $199 so it cost me nothing extra except one extra year on contract to get a better new phone.
I love the Evo 3D. And anyone who b*tches about it all the time cuz their screen is a lil bit yellow instead of white, or they got shipped with kingston instead of scan or w/e can just take it back n get the samsung instead and let the rest of us actually enjoy this beast. It's one of the best phones out there and the only 3D phone that is worth buying and that 3D feature got me laid, so STOP b*tchin. Not aimed at the thread starter.

Galaxy nexus vs. LTEvo

I'm having trouble deciding between the galaxy nexus and the evo lte I like sense and want a device with good longevity is there anyone who's thought about this before if so what was your choice?
Sent from my HERO200 using xda premium
I'm sure there's alot of ppl on here who have had the same question. Theres a few other threads about it, but like others have said I think it all comes down to personal preference because both phones will perform similar. Go play with both of them to make it a little easier
The nexus will with out a doubt get jelly bean first. The EVO is the best build quality. It's pesonal choice but for me I will stick to the EVO. I tried nexus before and liked it, but all mods and ROMs where the same. And I hate all that plastic

There is absolutely no competition here.....
EVO 4G LTE hands down.
I'm thinking there is a better dev community here with the evo so I'm a little less worried about updates
Sent from my HERO200 using xda premium
I've had the LTEvo for over a week now and all I can say is WOW. Aside from being super smooth with sense and all that jazz, the battery life is just plain nuts. I have yet to see it go below 70% and I leave it on from 7am til 11pm. I use it to browse and play music a good bit, too. Another thing I am waaay impressed with is how fast it turns on and off. I can turn it on and off and on again faster than my HTC Thunderbolt turns on! It also runs the psx emulator a TON better than my tbolt, so I'm happy with my ffix Sense 4.0 FTW
In terms of Dev and community support, HTC will always take the cake there. There might be a chance that a new nexus will be release before Jelly Beans comes out, but that's just heresay. I'm also under the opinion that google will be shifting a lot of there goodies to Motorola phones now since they bought it out.
P.S.- the camera is by far the best one I have seen, although I'm sure there will be people that say they've seen better on other phones, but meh.
The last phone I owned on Sprint was the Galaxy Nexus (switched to Straight Talk on an international GS3). I would say go for the Evo 4G LTE. The "awesomness of a stock experience" wears off pretty quickly. Sense 4.0 adds features and isn't as bloated as previous versions. More importantly, the SLCD2 screen is much sharper than the SAMOLED Plus screen on the Nexus, and the Nexus is running last year's features and noticeably lags.
Stock can also be on an unlocked rooted evo so is there really a big difference between the nexus?
Sent from my HERO200 using xda premium
Definitely go with the LTEvo. I was in the same boat as you, and was completely torn between the Gnex and the Evo. I had previously owned the OG Evo, and the Evo 3D, and while of course interested in the LTEvo, I was enticed by the sexy look of the Gnex, the pure AOSP, and the immediate updates from Google. I played with the Gnex for a while, but the moment I held the LTEvo in my hands I knew it was no contest.
Build quality is way better, screen is the best I'd ever seen on a phone, expandable storage, larger battery, improved radios...it's a beast. And the dev community is steadily growing, especially since the phone has only been out to the general public for about 3 weeks. There's a largely functional CM9 ROM already (capable of being a daily, depending on your needs, as it's only really missing MMS, multitouch, camcorder) if you crave AOSP, and I'm sure we won't be that far behind the curve in terms of getting JB.
The Gnex is a great phone, dont get me wrong, and not many people who've gotten a Nexus phone have ever really regretted it. But it's age is starting to show, and at this point, the LTEvo is definitely going to last longer technologically speaking.

The Gnex has the best development community right now. But yes, the Evo is good too. Just not better.
To OP, if you want updates first without waiting and worrying, get the Nexus. If you want Sense and better specs, get the Evo. We'll have our devs give us JB before HTC does, at least.

Significantly better specs, at that. After a while, software doesn't matter if the hardware is behind. Oh and also, the Nexus has TERRIBLE terrible camera, especially compared to the Evo. When I say terrible, I mean even my Sony Ericsson W580i took better pictures, I'm not exaggerating.

True, but I would argue that this phone stock, Sense and all, runs about as smooth as the Gnex does stock as well. The spec difference is kind of less obvious due to Sense. Running stock ICS on this phone would really show the difference. Gaming as well. But as someone who does not game that much on a cellphone, I would say that the difference in power between the two, while admittedly large, isn't as huge when it comes to non-gaming performance, thanks to Sense.
This phone is still much better though. Even if someone doesn't completely understand how much more powerful it is, anyone can see that this phone can run something as heavy as Sense as smooth as the Gnex runs stock ICS.
Tl;dr: I agree with you.

OK guys let's be honest, is the Sensation more worthwhile than the amaze

Before you go and bash me saying we do one of these threads like every week I'm just asking an honest question. is it worth it to trade an amaze for a sensation or go to the sensation from the amaze because if development and support
The down side is less RAM slightly worse camera and no internal storage
But besides that speed wise they should be similar since they run the same chip.
Software is a huge part of the phone, and I don't want the one s because it doesn't have a removable battery and storage.
What should I do? I think me and my amaze have been together long enough
Damn noob... There's a Q&A Section.
Noooo it's a discussion thread
In my opinion Sensation is better than Amaze since it gets more software supports (official CM, yah), integrated SoC (seems to be more power efficient), and is slightly thinner.
Hey eclipze! I personally think that the trading to the sensation is a good decision unless your snagging some cash. But I personally have owned 3 sensations. And have had one at the same time as having an amaze. I compared my stock amaze side by side with my cm 9 sensation. And the speed, smoothness, and stability of my amaze was noticeably better than the sensation. So while having the support, I really don't think it out performs the amaze. I had a sensation when the amaze came out. I was honestly laughing at the amaze. It seemed like a terrible phone choice for tmobile to push because it was arguably the same specs as the amaze. I thought this for a long time. I then had an opportunity to get an amaze dirt cheap, I planned on just reselling (besides wanting to play with the camera). But once I played with it I immediately noticed a difference in performance. That aside... Out of probably 4 sensations that ever reached my hands, 3 had significant amounts of dust under the screen. This gradually increased overtime... So even if it didn't have dust to begin with, it happened eventually. Because I'm cheap... If I could find a sensation for around $150 and could sell this for over $250, I'd do it, and use the sensation until gsiii prices dropped. But unless you're getting money out of it I wouldn't find it worth it.

I think I'm having the same feelings as you. I have been thinking about switching to a different device that has more support and dev. Although, I haven't thought about the sensation. Personally, I wouldn't go to the sensation as an equal exchange. I would need cash on top since the amaze is an upgrade.
Although, I'm actually thinking about the sgs3 or the nexus. I found a s3 for 400 brand new, thinking about getting it right after this doctor's appointment.
EDIT: after some reading it seems that there are a lot of scams going on with people on CL and tmobile phones, specifically the sgs3. So maybe won't go down that route. :banghead:

I got an Amaze knowing its issues. The performance is ok and its size/weight is not as much an issue for me since it is tapered. The lack of wifi source this late is infuriating. The battery life is also mediocre at best. IMO the main problem with the amaze is the crappy HSPA+ modem that was first gen, a huge power hog, and made the phone bulky as well.
But I probably would not downgrade to the sensation despite better rom support and battery life. I'd rather just wait for the successor to the Amaze or the next google phone.

Sure it has great ROM development but I'm sure it wasn't always like that. The amaze work have great development one we figure out data. Plus it's a downgrade in specs from the amaze. If anything I would say go with a more current phone like the s3 or the one series phones.

Evo appreciation

Can I just throw some love to the evo's display. I've had mine for like 5 months and this display still blows me away. Colors are perfect and text is so sharp.
Also the build quality still amazes me and people I show it to are always impressed with how thin it is.
Battery life is also great and I can pretty consistently make it through the day with typical usage.
I don't use the kick stand much but when I do it is very handy to have.
Been running stock sense for like a month and dont hate it. It adds a lot of functionality and the keyboard is pretty accurate with very few mistypes.
Love this phone!

I don't understand why people think Sense is "slow". Sense is not "slow". It might make UI framerates a bit laggy at times, but it's not slow. Unless you use a stopwatch and measure app opening and operation times between Sense and AOSP, there's really nothing "slow" about it. The processors we have in these phones are so insanely fast that OEM overlays basically do nothing to the speed at which Android operates.

Coming from a nexus 4 the EVO LTE is awesome. My Nexus (bought directly from google) had this weird thing where it rattled, and it honestly felt cheap. I like the back glass of the n4 more than the plasticky look of the evo but I stuck a case on it and now I don't notice it at all. Basically the same in terms of processor speed, and the battery life on this phone is light years better. Also, having a microSD card slot makes me feel privileged.. 16GB just doesn't cut it. Oh, and i personally like the Sense camera better. Not sure which one the tech gods think is better but the only advantage the N4 had was that "photo sphere" garbage which quite frankly wasn't that special.
So compared to the N4, I love my EVO.
Oh, and the GS3 felt like one of those toy candy-filled phones you see at the dollar store.
That is all.

Current Evo status

Hey guys,
I just sold my Epic 4G Touch and I am seriously considering this phone. The problem is all of the reviews are from a long time ago. I'm just curious if the alleged screen ficker, poor 3g reception, poor battery life are still existent or even true as a whole. I know different roms will affect battery and all of those reviews were from stock newbs. What I did find interesting is one reviewer stated that an xda dev said the antennas are an issue.
So what's you're input?

Biggest complaint I've come across on these forums has to do with LTE connectivity. I can't comment personally because there is no LTE in my area. Many users have complained that battery life has suffered since the Jelly Bean update, but battery life is subjective because we all use our phones differently. I've seen a few people mention issues with their screens but overall it doesn't seem widespread. I like my EVO and would highly recommend it
The advice is free....the bandwidth, not so much
My Evo is great. I'd recommend it, especially if you're a fan of HTC Sense. It seems like HTC finally got it right, it's the perfect balance of speed, reliability, and not-hogging-the-CPU-ness. My only issue is that for some reason my camera will run constantly in the background and kill the battery, but I just use the recent apps function to close it after each use and the problem is solved.
I keep hearing about LTE issues, but I almost wonder if that could be fixed via software update. I only have 3g and it's fast enough for me.
Hope this helps!
I love this phone. After playing with this and a gs3 I would say this one. No issues whatsoever on mine. Battery life is more than enough until I get off work to a charger. Great performance, screen, everything you want in a high end phone. Even the feel of the phone.

evo lte is a great phone but the gs3 is just a tad bit better so go with that. or the note 2.

I'd have to respectfully disagree about the GS3. I've owned both the GS3 and the Note 2. I'd say the GS3 and the EVO are pretty closely matched. I feel that the screen, build quality, and camera are much better on the EVO. Now, the Note is certainly nicer. It's biggest selling point for me was the quad core and the battery life is freaking awesome. But, it really is a big phone. While I found it wonderful tooling around on the couch, putting that thing in my pocket and using it at work and such was too much. Just too big to be practical, for me anyway.

Only issue I think is a problem is the LTE connectivity but battery life is good on certain roms

I love my Evo LTE, but if you are going to buy a new phone and redo your 2 year contract, I would wait for the HTC One that is suppose to come out in March. Why lock into a 2 year contract with a phone that's been out for almost a year. Go for the newest and greatest thing. If you are buying used off contract then yes, the Evo is worth it.
High end HTC phones feel solid in hand.. Now everyone knos Samsung phones feel like a cheap a$$ peice of plastic.. I like the solid feel over cheapness This phone still is BEAST!:good:
