Hello all, I have a Fascinate on AOKP Milestone 4. I'm not sure what kernel, I don't think it's Voodoo, it may be Icy Glitch.
I forgot to charge it overnight, it had low power, and I left it on during the day. I tried turning it on, and it just goes the SAMSUNG logo for about 6 seconds, briefly flashes off, then goes back to the SAMSUNG logo for around 30 seconds, then repeats.
If I plug it in with the battery, it goes to the charging screen, which is not animated.
If I plug it it with no battery and the down volume button depressed, it goes to the Download screen.
Any help would be appreciated, I have Nandroids, and I would like to avoid wiping all of my data.
Based on the other threads I searched, I'll have to use Odin. Will this erase my backups/files?
Thanks!
No, ODIN will not erase your backups. Can you get into recovery?
Good to know. What about photos/other files?
And no, only the "download" mode.
Also, is there ODIN for linux?
Check out droidstyles guide. There is a section for you there. I just used Google for the heck of it...yeah I know...and it says that there is no Odin for Linux, on heimdall

Ok, I followed droidstyles guide (section 4), and right now I can't three finger into recovery (does nothing) but when I boot it goes to CWM v4.0.1.0 and has some mounting errors.

You have the symptoms of the dreaded bootloop caused by 3-fingering into recovery on ICS ROM's. Follow section 9 in Droidstyle's guide.
I have tried section 9, and while I can get the stock rom to work, after the next step, I can't three finger, and it boots to the messed up CWM.
I could take a video if that would be helpful.
Thanks!
What do you mean the stock ROM? A video might be helpful.
---------- Post added at 05:39 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:31 AM ----------
Actually, try the bottom part of this post, but use the stock ROM from Droidstyle's guide.
The stock EH03 Gingerbread from section 5 of droidstyles guide.
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/10728-guideinstalling-a-romcwm-recoveryrootor-going-back-to-stock/
It's the stock Samsung touchwiz rom, that works it's just recovery that's messed up.
I'll try the heimdall guide.
Ok, so following the guide, I got to
DI01 all in one: Thanks Adrynalyne.

EB01 all in one: Thanks Adrynalyne.

Both of these links are broken, should I open the EH03( "ED05 Froyo: http://dl.dropbox.co...OYO_REL.tar.md5" from droidstyles) tar.md5 and use those files?
thanks!
I apologize, I am a bit confused. Can you give me a step-by-step walkthrough?
I followed this guide:
http://www.galaxyforums.net/forum/s...dall-recovery-how-unbrick-your-fascinate.html and used heimdall.
But instead of using the DI01 or EB01 all in one per instructions, I had to use the
stock EH03 Gingerbread from http://rootzwiki.com/topic/10728-guideinstalling-a-romcwm-recoveryrootor-going-back-to-stock/ section 5.
My phone currently boots into normal Samsung touchwiz, like when I got it.
Three finger goes to Android system recovery <3e>.
Not sure what to do from here.
Use ODIN to flash cwm4 fixed for cm7.
Sorry for the belated reply, but for those finding this thread, the instructions provided worked.
Thanks All!

Ok so i tried flashing Epic got into a bootloop...so went to stock KF1...ODINed the Cognition kernel with CWM...flashed Fasty II V2.0 onto it...The ROM booted up just fine!
Then I went to Market to Download TiBu..but got a error message saying "Device doesn't have sufficient space blah blah" ...I know this..just need to wipe cache partition and am back up running...but when I boot into Recovery...I get this message:
E: can't open /cache/recovery/command

E: can't open /cache/recovery/log
E: can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
E: can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
And every time I try to wipe cache partition..it just skips the wipe and gives the above error again
Shot a PM to LostLogic...till then anyone else who knows the solution to the problem please help me
How do I remove these errors?
I'm afraid you're just another victim of the "eMMC brick" (otherwise known as "kiss your device goodbye")... Looks to me a lot like what my HTC DS is displaying everytime I boot into recovery. :/
Search for "eMMC brick" on the forums, it's a well-documented issue. But up to now, I was under the impression that only HTC devices were concerned, looks like those ****ty chips are getting mounted on every device these days.. :O

Lol that scared the **** outta me but Anyways I fixed this by :
1) ODINed back to Stock KF1
2) ODINed the Stock KH3 tar file onto it
3) ODINed boog's kernel
4) Installed Fasty II V2.0 using CWM 4.0
Now everything seems to be fine again.
No errors while going into Recovery!
I'm having the same problem on my Sony Ericsson Xperia x10 Mini. Investigating ways of fixing it. I'll post here if I succeed.

If you have a Nand, you could just try to nand back.
Try use older version. 4.0 recovery.
Accidentally sent from my Google Nexus S using XDA Premium
I tried updating the recovery but it's not working.
Tried to update using fastboot flash but its stuck at writing 'recovery'...
Tried to update using PG32IMG.zip, it shows the first loading bar but the update prompt doesn't come up.
Also I don't have access to nandroid backup.

You don't have a Nand? Or you can't access it because of the way your device is acting? Because if you have a nand, you can Nand back using ADB.

I cannot access adb since I cannot boot into Android. I can only access fastboot. Backup from recovery (clockworkmod) is not available even though I swear I made a backup a while back.
You can do Fastboot ADB. As long as you have it setup. Several threads here on XDA on how to setup Fastboot ADB.

Hey there, I am encountering a similar problem, any luck on sorting it out?
Hi, I'm also having the same problem here with my dads IncS. Since the last post was over a month ago...is there a solution to this problem yet?
First, I'm sorry if this was posted before, but I couldn't find it. So here we go.
In front of me I have a friends Verizon Fascinate, it was stock rooted to the update prior to the GB launch [I know because I did it]. Now the issue lies with this:

apply update from sdcard

wipe cache partition

The only button that works is Home, and all that does is hides/shows the menu system.
Is there any way to get out of this mode without losing anything on the phone [kind of a last resort].
Thanks!
Read through the guide by DROIDSTYLE. Very easy to follow

I did have to restore, but I got lucky, I tried to see if forcing CWM back on [through odin] before restoring the phone may be a fix [go and try to clear the caches] but didn't fix it, but I did get to back it up from there [contacts were saved, but that is a different story].
I restored via Droidstyle's guide, and all went ok, but now I seem to have a "broken" root. SU gives me this error "checking md5sum... fail!". I tried following the instructions on the SU webpage, and still get that error. Anyone have any luck.

section 5 will get your root back or just flash a custom rom...
I followed the guide, and section 5. Even rebooted it, and tried to reinstall, still didn't work, still gets the error.
Well I'm not sure why you can't get root from using section5 it has worked for others including myself flawlessly...anyways I have one more suggestion. go to section 2 find the deodexed eh03 in step 12 download to sd card and flash in cwm. then follow steps 17-20

OK at what point are you getting the errors from section 5?
Is it when you odin?
Can you boot into CWM?
or is it when you flash the SU?
Okay, so here's the deal -
The phone was previously running stock rooted 2.2. I backed up the stock kernel, then used SGS Kernel Flasher to flash the Voodoo kernel. I decided to go back to the backed up stock kernel and used SGS Kernel Flasher to do that, and that's where everything went to hell. Now the phone will go through the T-Mobile and Galaxy S boot animations, but after that finishes, it'll just move straight to a black screen. The capacitive buttons light up and respond to the touch, but other than that, nothing happens.
I'm still able to get the phone into both download mode and the stock 3e recovery. However, when I boot into 3e recovery, I get a bunch of errors that say the following:
-- movi_checking done! . . .
E:Can't mount /dev/block/stl11

I've tried to used Odin to re-flash the stock firmware several times using several different methods, (this included), but Odin almost immediately gives me a big giant FAIL! every time I try. I've also tried it with the re-partition button checked, and when I do that it seems to start working, but then gets stuck on set-partition.
So, any ideas? Thanks in advance.
TL;DR: Phone goes through usual boot animations, then gets stuck at black screen but capacitive buttons light up and respond to touch. Using Odin to reflash stock firmware not working. Plz halp.
Okay, well, just in case anyone happens to find themselves in the same position I was in, here's how I fixed it:
Opened up Odin, and tried to reflash the Voodoo kernel. It failed and sent me to that pc ! phone screen. Kept Odin open and just hit start again and it went through. Got a voice that said something about insufficient internal storage I think? Then the phone just booted up and all is back to normal.
Next time disable voodoo lagfix from recovery before going back to stock kernel.

Yeah, I realized that was the problem after.
Question - so now the phone still has voodoo lagfix, but it's back on the stock recovery. Is there any way to get Clockwork back? I already tried reflashing the Voodoo kernel, but for whatever reason, it didn't flash CWM with it.
What do you mean it still has voodoo? Check what kernel version you have on your phone by going into settings. If you have stock recovery then most likely your using stock kernel now. You might be talking about voodoo folder on your sdcard, well it stays there until you delete it.
I'm 90% certain I still have Voodoo lagfix enabled because the last thing I flashed before it started working again was this kernel in Odin. But, like I said, it didn't flash CWM with it for whatever reason. I haven't flashed anything since.
In the settings menu, it says 2.6.32.9 under Kernel version. The phone's running the stock KA6 build at the moment.
Thanks for the help, by the way.
Okay, so I managed to get Red CWM back. I used Voodoo Toggle Reboot to disable it, reflashed the Voodoo kernel, and it put Red CWM back on there.
So, now I guess my only question is, can I use Red CWM to flash other roms? I'll make sure to disable Voodoo Lagfix before I do this time.

Yes, you can. Make sure when you disable voodoo, let the phone reboot so it can convert the partition back to rfs.

Im thinking you some how damaged your memory. I haven't seen this on an Android device
Yet but back in the day I did this to a good number of razor's. If it won't take a flash at all then
Your memory is probably damaged.
I'm not sure about that because it's still loading the bootloader. You should try to odin it
Back to stock. Try the route 666 root injected stock rom. There is something about that rom
It got me unbroken one time. If it will take that rom then just redo the casual and reinstall your
Twrp. And then put what ever rom you want on it.
If it won't. .. then....
If it was me I would take out the insurance. Then I'd drop it off the roof of my house.

Yes insurance fraud always option number 1! Really?
op try two things. First, boot back into recovery and do a factory reset. Second if that didn't work you will need to Odin again and make sure it is successful before proceeding. There is a great guide in development if you need help. I recommend the alternate restore file but full stock would be great to.
The root66 doesn't contain boot loader, recovery, kernel anything so it may not be enough

I remember one of wipe in the TWRP recovery means fully format the system, include the partition. I think I may made a mistake here...
Is there any ideas about re-partition?
Did you include the sch-i605_16gb.pit file in Odin?
