[Q] ENABLE voice command? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So i just flashed XXLPQ and for whatever reason it doesnt have the double tap home button voice command function. Perhaps im one of the very few who like this feature? How can i install it?
Is there a different version i should try? I have been out of the game for a while, theres about a dozen or so stock(ish) roms and quite a few more custom ones. Which should i use for battery life, performance, and features? I'd be putting nova on there so whatever launcher it comes with likely wouldnt be of consequence, One stock rom seems as good as another except at this point my bluetooth doesnt like doing the voice command thing because its not enabled on this rom. Any ideas?

[ROM][CDMA]Lightweight ROM 21863-based

Here is the Lightweight ROM i made. No guarantees! It worked for me but as usual, your mileage may vary. This is based of the stock 21863 ROM not the new 6.5.3, so the dialer works like normal and this has the standard start menu at the top.
Important!! You will need to use the right softkey and change the TouchWiz to disabled after you flash this ROM! The start menu defaults to mainmenu.exe, but it has been removed, so if you want touchwiz, leave this setting alone and copy mainmenu.exe back to the Windows folder.
My ROMs Folder
Comments are welcome, enjoy!
I should not that this ROM is stripped down to just basic windows, Office, Adobe Reader and the fav Samsung apps, like calendar, clock, dialer and the settings menu. Optional to use any of them, i just found them better than the base windows variants. Opera, all windows Titanium / widgets have been removed, as well as Swype, Nuance Voice Control, and all the graphics for the now not-included Samsung home screen.
Another quick note! IF YOUR AUDIO DOES NOT WORK - I made 13 variants of this ROM before it was finalized, for 2 of those ROMs my audio did not work out of the box until i installed the SWS WOW 2.cab. If this happens to you, install this cab and your audio will be back. Again, it only happened with 2 previous builds, and did NOT happen to me on the final, but hey, anything can happen so this is your heads up.
Also, do NOT disable the built-in dialer if you want your send key mapped to the phone app. Disabling it in registry or SKTools will PERMANENTLY disable it even if you reenable the dialer!

Thanks Radio,
I will have to give this a try tomorrow after I get some shut eye
out of all of the roms available, I like yours the best. The memory stability of this rom is perfect for me. Although it does not have as much available ram as some of the other roms, it has been the smoothest running so far. I usually start out at around 82-83mb after a soft reset, and the lowest the ram goes down to during all day usage is about 75mb. That's with the samsung today interface. I would have preferred titanium but the fact that I can use my phone for days with out having to reset or pull the battery is great. After closing programs the memory returns to the amount before opening the program. I usually idle at around 79mb throughout the day.
So far I have had no major issues considering this is the first release of this rom. All problems I have encountered so far are due to cabs I have installed and not the rom itself. For some reason I can not get reStART to install, but I had the same issue with the other customs roms out there. So my file might be corrupt or something.
Thanks for you hardwork and I look forward to an updated version of this rom.

Dialcode for JI2 GPS service menus

It would seem that the original *#*#1472365#*#* no longer works. It just stays at the dial menu. Have also tried with SGS info and servicemode apps and neither of those works on the new JI2 either. Any idea how to access those menus now? I would like to test the ms-assisted setting vs standalone with the new software.
I know eugene as a version of lbsmodetest that will do this but am hoping to stay purely stock for testing purposes.
If you're running LauncherPro or ADW, you can make a shortcut to it on your homescreen. In LP, long-press>shortcut>activities>lbstestmode>lbstestmode(first one)
Unfortunately I am running completely stock for now.
I dont understand, if you are running "completely stock" then it works. If you are running Eugene's ROM then you are not running stock.

It does not work on the *BETA* stock rom that was released, and currently in this rom without changing the files for the rom there is no way to access these settings.
Download "any cut" in the market. Use that app to make a shortcut to lbstestmode. Don't spend too much time trying to FIX the gps settings if you are one of the unlucky ones that still have problems after the last fix.

New to rooting...

So I finally took the plunge and rooted; I installed CM7, as well as an updated kernel (I think it was from "imoysen", or something like that?), though I'm still kinda shaky on these concepts. So I have a few questions.
First of all, on CM7, it appears that I don't have a voicemail app anymore. Previously, after installing CM7, I was missing the Android Market app (as well as other Google apps), and someone instructed me to flash GAPPS, which got these back for me. Am I going to have to do the same for voicemail?
Secondly, back when I was on stock, I like using Fancy Widgets and/ or Beautiful Widgets to get Sense-lock clocks (but with more themes). I'm noticing now, on CM7, though, that none of them are able to pick up my location for weather. Why is that, and how do I fix it?
Lastly, and this is one that I'm VERY curious about, now that I'm rooted, is there any way to make headphones with controls originally made for iPhones (the ones with volume +/-, and a middle button) work with the Thunderbolt? I know they don't work on stock because it's an Apple proprietary thing, or whatever, but is there a way to get them working on a rooted device?
Thanks much to anyone that can answer any of my questions.

No idea on Voicemail; I've only used Sense-based ROMs. I would assume that there are multiple voicemail apps available (but you could just use Google Voice, and avoid ever having to listen to voicemails! text message transcriptions of voicemails are much better)
Weather Location: In Settings -> Location, make sure you have location services enabled. Also make sure you have syncing enabled in Accounts&Sync.
As for the headphones, check out https://market.android.com/details?id=com.kober.headsetbutton&hl=en
You'll notice, however, in the description:
Headset Button Controller cannot support the separate volume control buttons on the iPhone headset - this is a limitation of the Android framework.

So you'll only get 1 button worth of control.
Hm. Well, in CM7, I don't see any kind of setting for "Location", nor is there anything for it in Accounts & Sync. I know when I was first trying to get it to work, I stumbled upon some settings for location, but even when I had everything enabled, it still wasn't picking up my location.
Bummer about the headphones... I have a really nice set that I like a lot, I just wish the three buttons worked with Android.
Flash this in your recovery. This is the latest network location apk. Should fix you location.

Cool, thanks, that did the trick!

[Q] How can I determine which ROMS are compatible with the "bloatware?"

The question sounds stupid, but the problem is I'm never sure where the "stock" image ends and the "extra stuff" begins, and in the past when I've put ROMs on other phones (Evo, Atrix 2) I wind up missing features.
I got my new Note this morning, immediately rooted it before I went to work (Had ODIN all set up and ready to go) and spent the day downloading apps. When I get the 64gb SD card I read about on these very forums (should arrive tomorrow or Friday) I'll then flash the nifty recovery stuff and use Titanium Backup to save all my application settings. Fine and dandy. Meanwhile I've been playing around with the phone (of course) and I've found there are things that I don't think are part of stock gingerbread that I want to keep.
I think the things I like are specifically Samsung customizations rather than AT&T add-ons. For example, the ability to swipe left on a name in your contacts list to send a text and swipe right on a name to call them is brilliant, and I don't remember that being a part of CM7 when I had it on my Evo. I also like that you can hang up, mute, or put on speakerphone a call from the task list--don't remember that one either.
There are a few apps I like. The Samsung music app (though it has a tendency to skip when the screen is off--anyone know why?) the voice recording app. I even kind of like the About Movies app, if only because the Note is the first phone where I thought it would be worthwhile trying something like that out (seriously, the screen is almost as big as the screens on some portable DVD players these days).
Some of these apps I figure I can back up on Titanium and then restore, and they'll probably work. Some apps might not work in ICS, and I'd really like to try a few of the ICS ROMS. Some features I like, like the phone functionality, probably get overwritten altogether. And of course I want to keep all the stylus apps and functionality.
Some of the functionality (like the stylus stuff) may have been duplicated in some of the custom roms. Some of the apps may be compatible with some roms and not others.
All of that leads up to my question: is there any information on what custom features in the stock Note were duplicated or re-implemented in various ROMs, and any information on what ROMs are compatible with some of the app add-ins? When I go through the lists in the dev section I usually see "debloated" which to me reads "we stripped out everything that isn't stock" but other than a few comments about stylus functionality I don't see a lot of information on what was carried over.
Those features you mention are features of the touch wiz interface that is Samsung firmware.
You lost those on cm rooms before because it's aosp based, which is what Samsung gets, and then throws touch wiz on top of it.
htc has an overlay they put on Android called sense.
Motorola's is called motoblur
If you want to keep those features on a custom ROM, just make sure it's based on a stock firmware and not from aosp

[Q] Custom ROM's with Battery Charged Sound?

My apologies if this is the wrong spot, this seems like the best fit since it is not specific to any one Custom ROM...
My latest phone came with a feature to ding once the battery was charged 100%. I must have removed it's APK when I was debloating because I cannot find the stock option anymore.
I managed to get it back, via GravityBox, but now I want to have the same feature on my older device. It has a custom ROM on it, CarbonROM, that I am not afraid of building and flashing a different (yet still highly-customizable) ROM in it's place if need be.
Without blindly building and flashing ROM's looking for this feature (and Google search only turns up apps that I have tried and didn't like[1]), are there any custom ROM's that have this feature?
Many thanks for your input.
[1] One rang constantly, which I don't want. I am just looking for a simple ding (points go to having the feature being able to select the sound used). The other had ads (and no paid version), was bloaty, and the toast function (which I don't need) crashed. I could use GravityBox over there as well, but you are not supposed to use it on a custom ROM anyway (not that it has stopped me from running it on OptimusUI for my main device ). I should add that having an app, sort of ruins it for me because it's something so simple that it just takes up one more spot on the app drawer.
